Ch. 1: Finding Out
8/1/17-10:19pm
I can't sleep right now. I can hear mum about to go to bed. Right now, I'm holding a flashlight under my covers, so they don't see. I want to write this down in case this is all just a dream. If it is, I don't want to forget it... I hope I'm not just hallucinating. I'm scared to close my eyes, in case it all disappears, including the fancy waxed letter, the owl flying straight into the kitchen, the dancing teapot, and the woman with the tall pointy hat. I sound like a madman. I just can't believe this is actually real.

Jordan closed the flashlight, and placed the diary on the table next to their bed. Then they tried to sleep, but those dark eyes stayed open. They kept on shifting and turning, due to the uncomfortable summer heat. The poor fan was having a hard time, and the opened windows did nothing except blast her with the noise of the traffic outside. They had so many thoughts about what happened today; it was a lot to take in...
Earlier that day:
Jordan woke up to another boring day of vacation. There was only one month left of summer vacation, and yet, the only thing interesting thing that happened so far was that they got to sleep in late. Sometimes Jordan wished that their mum wasn't so overprotective. All they wanted to do was to travel the world. But ever since it was just Jordan and their mum, they had never gone outside of London. Their friends told Jordan all about their plans for vacation while they just listened jealously. Melanie was going to America to visit her cousins, and Jacob always went to China during the summer. Rose usually didn't travel as much as the rest of their friends, but she had a big family and so she was hanging out with the rest of her family.
Meanwhile, Jordan was just stuck here in the small apartment until the start of school...
"Come down Jordan! It's lunchtime," Mum shouted. They slowly went down the stairs and quietly sat at the small, round table. Mrs. Kai went to pour the hot tea, when she suddenly stopped in midair and grew pale. Jordan looked to the left. There was a huge snowy owl tapping it's beak on the window. They rubbed their eyes to make sure they were still awake. Mrs. Kai was always afraid of huge birds, and so she tried to shoo it away. However, the owl just kept tapping it's beak on the window pane. There was a piece of paper in it's beak. Finally, it seemed that the owl would never stop, so Jordan opened the window, and it flew in on to the table, knocking over all of the food from lunch. The both of them looked at each other confused.
Seconds later, someone knocked on the front door. Their mum opened the door, and in stepped a strange looking woman. This woman had on billowing, purple robes, and a tall pointy hat. She had straight red hair, and was carrying a carved stick. She looked like a stereotypical witch, except without green skin and warts. This had to be some sort of joke.
"Hello Mrs. Kai. I see you've gotten the letter," she pointed to the paper that the owl was holding. Jordan was confused, how did this woman know their mum's name? "I'm so sorry to surprise you like this. I am Professor Bones, head of the Hufflepuff house in the Hogwarts Schools of Witchcraft and Wizardry." Jordan could swear that this Ms. Bones was talking gibberish. She continued on about magic and a place called Hogwarts...
"You're a wizard Jordan."
"A WHAT??" They assumed they heard wrong.
"You're a wizard," she said patiently.
This had to be a joke, yet her face seemed so serious. Maybe someone just hired an actress to prank them. There was no way that they were going to believe her. There was no way any of this was real.
Then Ms. Bones raised the stick, and waved it quickly. The teapot. It flew. It flew onto the table and then started to... dance? It was hopping around, and tap dancing in time to the "wand". Jordan was so confused. This had to be a dream. Mrs. Kai got pale, and looked like she was about to have a heart attack. This kind of stuff only happened in books and movies, right? There was no way this was real. The tea pot finished it's number, and then reverted back into a regular old tea pot. Both mother and child thought they lost their mind.
The owl flew over to Jordan, and held out it's beak expectantly. Jordan grabbed the paper/letter and held it up. The envelope was old fashioned, with a huge red wax, and the font was in fancy cursive. Jordan slowly opened it and immediately saw a big fancy logo. It had a lion, a snake, a badger, and an eagle on it, all circling a big H in the middle. "Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry". It looked so official; Jordan was starting to believe that this was actually real. But honestly, who would name a school after a wart of a hog?

There were a billion unanswered questions in their head, and so they turned over to the next page. On it was a list of strange things, like dragon hide gloves, a cauldron, and spell books. This was way too elaborate to be a prank. For the next half hour, Ms. Bones patiently answered all of the questions that Jordan and their mum had. Ms. Bones then explained that she would come by tomorrow and bring Jordan to Diagon Alley, to get all of the supplies they would need for the school year. Then, Ms. Bones somehow disappeared in a blink of an eye...
There was no way this was real. Or was it?
