Chapter 1 ~ New World

Sena's POV

I was doing my rounds around the village, like I do everyday, when I saw the head guard, Garroth, and his guard apprentice, Zenix, near the outskirts of town. I walked up to them, "Greetings, you two." and did a little curtsy in front of them. "Lady Sena, greetings to you, too." Garroth bowed, while hitting Zenix on the back to do the same. The simple action made me giggle, "No need for that. We've known each other for a long time, Garthy!". Garroth sighed at the use of his nickname, "Even so, you are Magus of Phoenix Drop. You should be given the respect for such a title. And I would greatly appreciate it if you kept the nicknames for when I'm off duty." I pouted as Zenix stood up, "I don't get it, if she doesn't want the formalities, why should we bother? And plus, I think the nicknames are cute." Garroth sighed once again.

"Anyway, Lady Sena. How's your magic? Are they enough to give us the next harvest?" Sadly, I shook my head no. Phoenix Drop hasn't been in the best of shapes lately since the last Lord disappeared. I've been able to keep our village going by using my magic to ensure we get good harvests each month. But this month... I've been using my magic to help out the villagers with small things to keep up a good relationship with them. "I'm sorry, a lot of villagers needed me and... I'm just very sorry..." I bowed apologetically. "Are you kidding me!? You're the Magus, you're supposed to help the village!?" The guard apprentice blurted out as he got a slap on the head by his mentor. "Don't raise your voice like that to the Magus, Zenix." Garroth scolded, "No, it's fine Garroth. He's right, I should've used my magic for the village's ne-"

*BOOM!*

The ground shook, making Zenix fall to the ground. "What was that?!" I exclaimed as Garroth looked towards the forest. "Follow me, silently." He said while leading Zenix and I into the forest. I got my magic ready as Zenix got his sword ready. There was another loud grumble that made Zenix run towards it. With a sigh, both Garroth and I chased after him. "Hahaha... enemy defeated." We heard from up ahead. Ugh, what has he done now? Garroth called out to him as we finally got to see him and... a young woman on the ground. I ran up to the unconscious woman to check for a heartbeat and sure enough, her heart's still beating. "Ugh, what did you do, Zenix?" Garroth interrogated, "Nothing! She merely fainted from the mere threat of my presence." Oh yeah, Zenix. Keep telling yourself that.

I didn't sense any magic from her and she... doesn't have much clothing to hide a weapon so she seems to be no threat. I told them that, "Woah, I just realized something... she's practically naked!" This time he got a slap from me as I stole his cape and wrapped it around the unconscious woman. "What!? Oh c'mon, I just got that from Meteli!" He complained but I ignored him. "Well you shouldn't have complained about her lack of clothing." I shot back before turning to Garroth, "Could you carry her?" With a nod, he obliged and tried picking her up without touching anything he shouldn't be touching. "But I defeated her!" Really, Zenix? "We'll believe you once you defeat the infestation of rats at our guard tower... like I asked you over a week ago." No wonder Garroth told me not to go into the guard tower for the past few days. "You've gotta be kidding me!" The head guard glared at his apprentice, which made the apprentice soften.

"Listen, with all due respect Lady Sena and Garroth. Please, hear me out. We're bringing an outsider to the village. With everything going on, do you think the people are gonna keep listening to you two? They already blame the both of you for the death of our Lord, especially you, Garroth." "There was nothing we could do!" Garroth shouted back as I placed a hand on his shoulder, telling him to calm down. "We did everything we could... but... we have to look forward and make sure no one else dies. And that includes her." I said, giving Garroth a side hug. This is a burden the two of us share, and we try to uplift each other. "We'll talk about this once we get into the village, c'mon." Garroth said, now with the maiden in his arms. We took her to the guard station as I told Garroth to place her on one of the beds. "I've got this, boys. She's a maiden, so I'll take care of her. I'll call you two over if I need anything." I said as they nodded and left.

My first thought was to make her some food for when she wakes up. I looked inside the cupboards and sighed at the sight. Nothing. Well, there was some bread and some herbs but I can't make a meal with bread and herbs. These guards need some better food. Hmm, I wonder if Donna and the other ladies have anything to make a decent meal... I stepped out and went on a search for Donna or any of the other ladies who live with her. She was at her place, relaxing on her day off. "Hey Donna!" I greeted with a small curtsy, "Greetings, Lady Sena! Did you need anything or are you doing your rounds?". I explained everything as she jumped up from her seat, "WHAT!? One second, Lady Sena. I'll get everything, you just go back to the guard station and keep an eye on the poor girl!" And with that, I did what she said. Donna can be firm when she wants to be, heh.

Once I got back to the guard station, I saw Garroth inside. "Huh? I thought I told you guys I got this!" I scolded, "We know, but we saw that you left and we wanted to make sure the maiden was okay." as he answered. Wait, 'We'? "OH MY IRENE, SHE'S ATTACKING ME!?!" Zenix's voice came down the stairs as we both went up there. Ugh, what did he do this time!? When the two of us got upstairs, we saw the maiden awake and with Zenix's dagger. She was obviously scared and afraid. "Woah there, calm down sweety." I approached her slowly as her guard stiffened. "I know that you're scared, you're in an unfamiliar house with three strangers. But we mean no harm, sweety." I knelt down to give her the respect she needed while Garroth put his sword on the ground and she softened her guard. "Where... am I...?" She asked as Garroth told her that we were in the village of Phoenix Drop. "Everything will be alright, sweety! My name is Sena, Magus of Phoenix Drop. And this is my guard, Garroth, and his apprentice, Zenix." I introduced ourselves, making Zenix groan about me telling her our names. Garroth punched him in the arm for it.

*KNOCK* *KNOCK*

A knock at the door? Must be- Suddenly, the maiden charged after Zenix with the dagger. Garroth tried to hold her off but she was able to push him back and get past us. Damn it! We were so close! I chased her down the stairs. "Lady Sena! Sir Garroth! You two won't believe it, I found a book all about the Matron from the merchant on the docks and- AHH! WHAT'S GOING ON!?" A familiar voice screamed, it was Emmalyn! I looked over and saw the maiden had the dagger to Emmayn's face. Crap, this isn't going well. "Emmalyn! Don't move!" Garroth told her. "I WILL CUT HER!" The maiden threatened, making Emmalyn cry a little. "SHE'S CRAZY!?" And whose fault is that? "Shut it, Zenix. You're only making it worse. M'lady, please. I beg of you, leave her out of this. Have this be between you, me, and my guards." I put my hands up, showing her I mean no harm.

She looked at me as her gaze shifted to my left hand that had my ring on. "That... ring..." The maiden muttered, making me confused. "We know that you are scared and afraid. But I promise, on my honor, that I will not allow any harm to come your way. Please... believe me." The maiden's gaze moved to Garroth as her expression softened. "You... are familiar..." Huh? This caught all of us off guard as she dropped the dagger, making Emmalyn sigh in relief. Suddenly, Dale, second-in-command guard, walked in with... ale... Dammit Dale. "Heeeeeey! I got some *hic* ale!" He announced as it scared the maiden so much that she grabbed Emmalyn's book and threw it at Garroth. He dodged it, thankfully, but it got stuck between the wall and the torch, getting burned in the process. Emmalyn cried out, trying to save it as the maiden took this chance to run out of the house.

Garroth and I followed her as we saw that she was getting closer to Brendan, a farmer who lived here. "Brendan! Stop her!" The guard called out, "H-huh? Me?" "JUST DO SOMETHING!" With those words, Brendan just stuck out his shovel, making her run straight into it. Ugh... Brendan... "You monster! How dare you do that to a poor, defenseless maiden!?" That voice... oh no, Brendan's in trouble. "B-b-b-but, G-Garroth and S-S-Sena said-" He was cut off, "We'll teach you to hit ladies!?" And with that, Brendan got beaten up by Donna and one of her roommates, Molly, as he apologized. I sighed and turned to Garroth, "I'll take care of the maiden. Can you take care of... this?" He got the message as he walked to them while I took the maiden back to the guard station.

After a while, Garroth came with Donna into the room where the maiden layed. "How could you let that happen to her!?" "In my defense, I thought Brendan would grab her so that I could try putting her to sleep." I explained as she sighed and turned to Garroth. "She panicked when we attempted to calm her. It didn't help that there were other people around who were paranoid, or drunk around to assist." Another good reason that it wasn't my fault. "That's no excuse! You're the head guard, and you're the Magus. You're both supposed to control the situation. Having Brendan smack her in the face with a shove is no way to treat a frightened lady! What if... she's been abused... or worse! Sena, I know you're new to being the Magus and that you're learning... but you also have to understand that EVERYTHING your guards do, is your responsibility." My gaze lowered to my feet in shame. She's right... I need to act mature about this... "In all due respect, Donna. I would like to take responsibility for this. Like you said, she's new to this. She's only been Magus for a few months and hasn't had much experience. You have my sincerest apologies." Heh, always here to save me, Garroth... Donna took a deep sigh, "Sena, Garroth... the villagers are beginning to lose faith in the two of you. This village cannot exist without a proper ruler. Sena can only do so much by herself, but her naivete is starting to show. You can't keep protecting her from her responsibilities! Unless you, yourself, become the Lord." She pointed to Garroth as it made him mad, "I don't want that!". That reaction was not what we were expecting. "I'm sorry... I'll leave her to the two of you." And with that, Garroth left.

My gaze was still down, looking at my feet in shame. Suddenly, something landed on my head. It was Donna's hand. "I know I said all that stuff, but that doesn't mean I'm mad at you, hon! I'm more mad at Garroth for babying you the way he has..." I chuckled, making her laugh. Donna's been like a big sister to me ever since I met her. And ever since the old Lord passed, she's been more motherly since the old Lord was my adoptive father. "Anyway, I'm gonna make some rabbit stew for us three gals. Keep an eye on her, okay?" I nodded as Donna walked down the stairs. I looked at the sleeping maiden, I now got to see what she looked like. She had tanned skin and long, dark raven hair. There were also these weird markings on her body. Wait... I just remembered she's just in undergarments... I can't let her stay like that, she needs some decency. With what little magic I had left, I had a vine bring some clothes from my place to the guard station. It was a white blouse, a black corset and a pair of black shorts. Suddenly, I heard a groan. It was the maiden! She was waking up! "Ugh..." I rushed to her side and sat down on the chair nearby. "Heh, hey there!" I said cheerfully as she jumped off of the bed. "It's okay, don't be afraid. Here!" With my magic, I created a single purple rose and handed it to her. "Th-thank you..." She said while taking the rose, "Heh, no problem! I love making flowers for others!". Donna came up the stairs with a small pot and three bowls, "Well now, look who's awake! Hey dear, you okay?" She asked but the maiden just stayed quiet and nodded while she placed the pot on another chari that was nearby. "What's your name?" Donna asked but it went unanswered, "Where're you from?" No answer, "Cat got your tongue?". The maiden tried standing up but stumbled, having me catch her. "I... I don't... I don't remember anything..." Amnesia, huh? "Well, at least you can remember how to talk!" Heh, she can always make someone laugh.

I went to go get that outfit again while Donna kept talking, "Y'know, it's not important you don't know who you are, at least not in this day in age. It's all about the name you give yourself, y'know?" While speaking, I could hear her pouring the stew into a bowl and handing it to the maiden. She filled up another bowl and handed it to me when I came back before filling up her own bowl. "Well, let's eat!" Donna cheered as the three of us started slurping the stew. Just like always, Donna's stew was delicious. "Y'know, I ran away from my mom's house long ago to become a merchant. Only moved here a few months ago, right when this cutie right here became the Magus of this village." She ruffled my hair again, making me giggle. "But heck, if I look back on my past... so in my opinion, no need for one!" Huh, never thought of it like that... Donna sure does have a way with words...

"A... nette..."

The two of us shifted our gaze to the maiden as if we've seen a ghost. She spoke again! "Th-that's your name?" I asked as she slowly nodded. 'Annette', huh? It's a unique name, but it seemed to fit her like a glove. "I've introduced myself before, but my name is Sena! I'm Magus of Phoenix Drop!" I exclaimed, "And I'm Donna!" Donna followed up as we each shook hands with Annette. "Oh! Before we do anything else, put these on, Annette!" I showed her the clothes I pulled out and handed them to her. Donna helped her put the clothes on as she scolded me for not helping her as I just giggled and stuck my tongue out. I may be an adult now but I'm still young, I'm only 19!

When Donna was done, Annette stood up and looked at herself in the mirror. "I... I like it..." She says in monotone, "I'm glad! That's one of my outfits!". Annette turned to me with a smile and a small bow. "It looks great on you, Annette! Now, let's finish our stews so Sen and I can show you around the village!" The brunette said as we happily ate our soup. "Sena, you mentioned that you're a Magus. What is that?" Annette asked, "A Magus is like, a second in command of a village behind the Lord. They also have magical abilities, like this!" Without skipping a beat, I used my magic to make two white lilies appear on the sides of her head. As she awes at the fact that flowers appeared, Donna slaps my shoulder. "Don't use your magic like that! You need to save it!" Crap, that's right... "But, her magic is so cool..." The black haired girl frowned, making Donna frown too. "I know, she has a real gift. But she really needs to save it. She's not too experienced in the art, so she recovers her magic back slowly. And what are we going to do when we need to duplicate our crops, or when we need to protect ourselves from danger." She's not wrong... I need to be responsible.

It didn't take long for us to finish our stew and be out in the village. We passed a few people as Annette would hide behind me. I don't know why, but I felt a form of pride from her actions. Is this how Garroth feels like when I used to hide behind him when I was younger? She looked up at me and I got to examine her face. She had dark markings under her eyes that made them stand out. The contrast of the white lilies in her black hair was mesmerizing. Gah! I looked away from the short girl with pink tinted on my face. You've gotta be professional, Sena! "And this is the plaza!" Donna said, getting me out of my trance. My eyes land on Brian, Dale's son and the newest member of the guard and the only one in this village who's around my age. "Brian-ey!" I called out and rushed up to him, tackling him into a hug. "Ahh! L-Lady Sena! You scared me..." My giggle made him flush pink, "Aww, you're still adorable, Brian-ey! Oh yeah! Donna, can you bring Annette here to meet Brian-ey!" The brunette lady just cackled while walking towards us with Annette. "Bri... Annie?" Annette questioned, making Brian blush even more. "L-Lady Sena! Why did you say that!? Th-That nickname is embarrassing..." He looked down, "Aww, I'm sorry. Ahem! Annette, this is Brian. He's the newest member of the guard of Phoenix Drop and a son of one of the other guards. You actually met him, he came into my house when he was drunk... While you were... Actually, I think you need to meet Dale when he's sober. And I have to talk to him about his drinking problem." I gestured as Brian bowed to Annette.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, M'lady. As a member of the guard, I would like to warmly welcome you to Phoenix Drop." Donna couldn't hold back her laughter, "Look at you, being all formal and stuff! I swear, the both of you have grown up a lot ever since I've known you two." and she patted mine and Brian's heads. "With all due respect, please don't patronize me, Lady Donna." He said in monotone, making the rest of us go silent. Yep, he's mad. Brian always hated being treated like a kid, especially since he's not only the youngest in the guard, but in the entire village. He says it makes him feel insignificant compared to the other guards. I patted his back, "Hey! Do you know where Garroth and Zenix are? Kinda wanna introduce Annette here to them without her getting scared and all that." The guard looked up at me with a small blush, "Y-Yeah, I know. Allow me to escort you ladies to them.". We were about to leave but I noticed Donna staying back, "Sorry about this, but I just remembered I've got someone coming over to my place, a merchant fellow. I'll catch you guys later!" And with that, the older woman is gone. "Let's go, Lady Sena and Lady Annette." Annette clung onto my arm, making Brian grunt before turning away and indicating for us to follow him.

On our way, we passed one of the old crop fields. "What's that, Sena?" Annette pointed at it, making me sigh. "That's one of our crop fields. We abandoned it when we found out the soil wasn't fertile anymore. One of the things that inform others that this place is going to... Disappear soon...", "What do you mean?" Heh, I can't tell her yet. "Don't think about it much, sweetie. Let's just keep going." I don't want to think about this stuff, not now at least. It didn't take long for us to be able to see where Garroth and Zenix were. They were at the old Lord's house with Brendan, taking it down. I tried to stop them, multiple times, but they told me it was necessary to help with raising the village's spirits. I had to put my feelings aside for the sake of the village, even though it was hard. The old Lord and... Lord Malik and I... I'd rather not speak about it. "Lady Sena?" Brian's call brought me out of my trance, "H-Huh?". "Y-You're crying..." I touched my cheeks to feel wetness so I tried to wipe my face dry. "I'm fine! It's just... Memories, you know..." My smile tried to hide the pain on my face, but Annette saw right through it. "You're hurting..." It caught me off guard, "C-Can I help you stop hurting...?" Oh my Irene, she's so sweet! "It's fine, Annette, really! C-C'mon! Let's go see Garroth and Zenix!" Running ahead, I ended up dragging Annette with me. "L-Lady Sena! P-Please be careful!".

Garroth heard our footsteps and turned to face us. "Lady Sena, greetings. And the maiden too! It seems like you've calmed down, that's good." Annette stayed behind me and started speaking, "Yes..." It wasn't loud, but he was able to hear her. "I am Garroth, the head guard of Phoenix Drop. Might I ask you for your name?" She hesitated a bit and looked at me. I gestured for her to respond, "A-Annette..." she squeaked. I giggled at the scene, she was adorable. "It looks like she's gotten attached to you, Lady Sena. That's good, she's in safe hands." Garroth sighed in relief as Zenix walked up to us. "Tearing down this thing is sooooo boring, Garroth. Oh, hey Sena. And... Oh, the maiden from this morning. Ugh, she's clothed...!" Garroth smacked him upside the head before I could, "Zenix! Manners!" The apprentice guard just mumbled insults under his breath. "You really need to get that foul mouth of yours, Zenix. You can't just say whatever you want to say, you're a guard, start acting like it." I scolded, "I'll start acting like a guard when you start acting like a Magus...". Before anyone could do anything, Annette got between Zenix and I, shocking all of us. She just stared at him, making him a little uncomfortable. "Your face is just as foul as your mouth." Silence followed Annette's words for a short while. I broke it from chuckling, eventually turning into a hearty laugh. "S-Stop laughing, Sena! Y-You can't even see my face, how could you know!?" Garroth eventually joined in as Zenix grew annoyed.

Annette on the other hand, looked on in confusion. "That was a good one, Annie! We're gonna get along just fine!" Her confusion grew, "Annie?" as I just smiled down at her and patted her head. "It's your nickname, sweetie!", "She likes to give people nicknames, it's her way of showing affection." Garroth explained for me while I nodded, continuing to pat her head. "Anyway! Lady Sena, tonight the guard will be holding a meeting at the guard station. A meeting you will be a part of, mind you." The word, 'meeting', made me want to groan but I kept quiet because I knew what this meeting would entail. "I understand, I'll go get ready for that. Annie, follow me. I'll take you to a place where you can stay for the night. My place is too small to house a second person, but I have an idea on who can house you." And with that, I waved goodbye to the two guards and left with Annette.

The whole time we were walking, Annette kept her hold on my hand while keeping silent. Well, until she broke the silence. "What's this ring on your finger?" I looked down at our hands and saw the ring she was talking about. "This? Oh, it's my mother's ring. It's the last thing I have to remember her..." She caught onto me trailing off, "You lost your mother?". Heh, she got me. "Yeah, it's a pretty hard topic for me to get into, let's talk about it some other time. Anyway! Here we are!" I told her, gesturing at the house in front of us, "This is where Donna lives! Hopefully she has enough room for you, sweetie!". With a quick knock on the door, it opens to reveal Molly. "Oh, greetings Lady Sena! Please, come in. You're here to see Donna, right? Let me go get her, make yourself at home!" Molly runs up the stairs, allowing us to enter. I guess she didn't notice Annette since she only acknowledged me. In the living room, Donna and Molly's roommates were talking amongst themselves. Some of them greeted Annette and I, while some didn't realize we were here, a normal day at Donna's house.

"Sena, Annette! Welcome!" The woman in question came running down the stairs and took us into a big hug. Annette was confused as I hugged back. "Hey Donna. I came to ask if you could house Annie here for the time being, if that's okay with you.", "'Annie'? Oh, that's- okay. Well, I'm sorry, hun. I'm already housing a guest here and our place is already crowded with the other women. I'm really sorry.". Annette looked down, but then looked up at me with puppy dog eyes. "Are you sure I can't stay at your place, Sena?" Awwww...! "I'm really sorry, sweetie. Like I said, my place is too small. Not only that, but I practice my magic at my house and, uh... Let's just say that no one but me can be in my house right now..." Donna just looked at me in shock, "What did you do?" Well...

No one's POV

In Sena's house, a giant venus flytrap is growing from the ground. A fly flies into the house and it chomps in the direction of the fly, eating it whole.

Sena's POV

"Yeah... That venus flytrap seems to hate every living thing but me... Actually I think it's in love with me which is weird to say the least." Donna's jaw dropped, "Oh my sweet and adorable Sena, what in the name of Irene are you practicing?!". All I could do was awkwardly laugh as she just sighed. "Well, there is... One place she can stay at... But quite frankly 'd rather not put her through that torture..." The brunette groaned, "Oh hell nah, Donna!" One of Donna's roommates spoke up. "You better not send that cute girl to that bitch's house! You know what she said about our home? She called our place a brothel!" Whoa, who are they talking about? "WHAT!? You know what? Sena, Annette, let's go! Let's go teach that freak obsessed with the Matron what for!" 'Freak obsessed with the Matron'? Oh... She means Emmalyn. Did she really call Donna's place a brothel? Donna's stomping made the villagers we pass scared for their lives. "Why is Donna mad, Sena?" Well... "She doesn't like it when people talk bad about her or her friends, Annie..." Donna heard me, "Damn right!". All I could do was chuckle as Annette looked up at me. She eventually joined in with my chuckling, making me smile that she's growing her own personality.

It didn't take too long for us to get to Emmalyn's place as I began to dread the moment Donna goes off on her. She takes a deep breath, "This won't take long, ladies. Sena, cover Annette's eyes, will you?" I did as she told me and brought Annette closer to me, placing my hand over Annette's eyes. In a flash, Donna used all of her strength to open the door. "EMMALYN!?" Sigh... Maybe I should talk to Emmalyn about being less rude, otherwise this will be a constant thing... "GAH! EVER THINK ABOUT KNOCKING!?" The blond freaked out, "HOW DARE YOU GO AROUND, TELLING THE VILLAGE OUR HOUSE IS A BROTHEL!?". Donna was fuming as Emmalyn just laughed, "Does 'Donna the Concubine' have a problem with that? Plus, a building that houses more than one lady that a man visits every now and then is BY DEFINITION, a brothel.". "I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR 'Definitions', THAT YOU GET FROM YOUR BOOKS, JUST STOP SAYING THAT STUFF! YOU DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH THAT AFFECTS SOME OF MY GIRLS!" Okay, I need to get between them. "Donna! While I understand you're mad, just calm down, please? For me?" Her face softened up and started taking deep breaths. "And you, Emmalyn. Please stop talking about Donna's place like that, it's rude. I don't care how much you dislike Donna, leave her place and the girls who live there out of it." The librarian just huffed and went back to reading her book.

"Anyway! The real reason why we came here.", "Yes, get to the point so I can read my book." Wow, she's really mad. "You see, Emmalyn... You know how I got you that tea not too long ago? You kind of owe me here..." Her eyes peered over her book, "Yeah?" Okay, here I go... "Well, I was wondering if you could let my friend stay here for a few days!" I gestured to Annette as she stepped forward. Emmalyn looked at her for a few seconds before spitting out her tea. "YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME, LADY SENA!? SHE NOT ONLY TRIED TO KILL ME, BUT SHE BURNED ONE OF MY BOOKS!?! AND NOW YOU EXPECT ME TO LET HER STAY AT MY PLACE!?", "For Irene's sake, STOP YELLING!" The brunette screeched, allowing for the librarian to take a deep breath. "Why can't she stay at your place or Donna's bro- house?" I explained to her the situation and she ended up reluctantly agreeing. "Thank you so much, Emmalyn. I'll be sure to get you some more tea for this. Oh, and Annie?" The black haired girl turned to me, "Don't cause Emmalyn here trouble. And either Garroth or I will come by to check up on you, okay? Bye, sweetie!" Donna and I went to leave but I saw a smirk grow on her face, making us stop at the door. "You know, if Garroth is going to be visiting Annette... Your house is now technically a brothel! Hah! In your face, Emmalyn!" Heh, Donna...

No ones POV

When the door closed, Emmalyn sighed and went into another room, coming back with a pillow and a blanket. "You can sleep on the floor or the couch, I don't care. There are some sandwiches in the kitchen if you're hungry, just don't come upstairs." Nodding at her request, Annette took the items she had. "Thank you, Emmalyn." The librarian huffs as her eyes trail off of my face onto the sides of the short girl's head, "I swear, Sena is too inexperienced to be Magus. She's wasting her magic on these mini requests from the villagers and now she makes your head a flower pot.". Curiosity grew from Annette as she asked a question. "Excuse me, but can you tell me what a Magus is?" Emmalyn's jaw dropped, "Where in the name of Irene did you come from that you at least do not know what a Magus?!" "Sena, Garroth and Zenix found me in the woods.". She facepalmed and gestured for the black haired girl to sit on the couch with.

"Ahem! So a long time ago, around 900 years ago, there was a woman by the name of Lady Irene. She's honestly the best, and the person I'm researching about because I find her existence to be magical! Gah! I'm not here to drool over Lady Irene! So anyway, she got rid of the monarchy system and implemented the Lord system. But over time, the Lords of villages couldn't keep up with the world and the rise of magic users. That's when the amaz- ahem! Lady Irene and her followers went to implement another system: The Magus system. This system was the most stressful to implement because... Well, not any old magic user could take a role that important. So a devout follower of Irene, who believed to have visions of the future, created a grail that would be used to not only find the right Magus for each village, but to also initiate them into being a Magus. However... There are cases like Sena where she only became Magus because she was the only magic user in the village. She's... Decent... At the job. But she's way too young and, like I said, she's inexperienced. Not only in what it takes to be Magus, but in her magic too. She runs out of magic so easily, it's embarrassing! Well, a weak Magus for a dying village seems fitting.".

Suddenly, she felt something fall upon her shoulder. Annette fell asleep after hearing Emmalyn's story. Emmalyn was going to wake her up, but instead her lips formed a small smile as she placed the short girl properly on the couch and covered her with the blanket. Looking at the Irene statue replica she had, Emmalyn sighed. "Even though I hate everything about this situation, it is nice to have some company that doesn't outright call me weird and obsessed.
