7. Greedy for the ladies
"Your son is seeing Misty Williams."
"You've got to be very careful about what you say, Serena." Delia assured. "This is Ash you're talking about."
"He is seeing Misty Williams, the model." Serena repeated, her voice angry. "I know Misty Williams - I recognize her. Her face is everywhere on the magazines. Do you read fashion magazines, Mrs. Ketchum?"
Eleanor and Delia looked at each other.
"Well, Ash sure reads them." Serena nodded. "He gave her a limited edition of the Floxane pumps. There is one black glittery pair with diamonds and your son gave it to her. Are you sure now that they're not seeing each other?"
"My God..." Eleanor whispered.
"I don't want to be backup." Serena got up.
"You're not backup, sweetie! We really want him to date you." Delia got up. She grabbed Serena's hands. "He never said anything about Misty and I'm sure they're not seeing each other! It must be a misunderstanding."
Serena sighed heavily. "Look, Mrs. Ketchum, Ash is... different, but I like him, and I want to be in a relationship with him. I really do."
Eleanor said, "That's what we want too!"
"But I don't want him to have anything to do with Misty Williams!" Serena sighed. "I can't be with a guy who's around that woman! She's dangerous - I mean, she's a fashion model! She's beauty itself! He'd not resist her!"
"Ash would never be around a woman like Misty Williams! What does he know about fashion and models anyway?" Delia rolled her eyes. "I assure you there is absolutely nothing between them."
Serena looked at the two women. Philip was sitting behind the counter, sipping tea, not looking at any of them, but his face features showed well his lack of interest in the topic.
"Just... talk to him, okay?" Serena walked out of the living room. "Make sure there is nothing between them. I really need that."
"Of course, sweetie! You just relax." Delia led the girl to the door. She kissed her on the cheek. "Don't worry! We'll take care of this."
"Bye."
"Bye dear."
"Call Ash." Eleanor shouted to her husband. "Now."
"Why me?"
"Just do it, please." Delia sighed heavily and headed back to the couch.
"He was upset that time he came and didn't get to eat, so maybe you should cook something for him this time." Philip took out his phone. "Eeeh, Misty Williams, Serena Yvonne... Ash's got this fired up, doesn't he?"
"Hum?" Ash raised his eyebrows, his mouth full of lasagna. He swallowed. "Wait-what? She wants to date me?"
"Of course she does." Delia smiled. "She's a very sweet girl, isn't she?"
"She is." Eleanor replied in a sing-song voice.
"You mean Serena?" Ash narrowed his eyes.
"You mean there is someone else?" Delia was alarmed.
Philip sighed loudly. He was still behind the kitchen counter, reading newspapers.
Eleanor cleared her throat. She said, "Actually, sweetheart, Serena told us something about a woman..."
"Uuuh... but..." Ash looked perplex. He dug the fork in the lasagna.
"Misty Williams." Delia spoke quickly. "Are you seeing her?"
Eleanor sat straight.
Ash licked his lips. "Why?"
"Sweetie, you can't have all women at once!" Delia chuckled nervously. "You've got to choose one! You shouldn't be greedy! We didn't raise you like that!"
Philip was chuckling lightly.
"Okay, everything is clear, then!" Eleanor got up, clapping her hands. "I'm going to call Serena and tell her that it's a misunderstanding!"
"Wait." Ash got up. He picked up the lasagna dish. "I don't want to be with Serena. I can't be with her."
"Why?" Delia gasped. "Are you really together with Misty? The model? Misty Williams?"
Philip looked up. Eleanor approached Ash. "Is it true?"
Ash was feeling a big urge to kick Serena out of his life - and for once. He's had a boring dinner with her and they share nothing in particular. He couldn't see himself with her in the future, even though his mother promised him to think seriously about sharing power if he gets seriously involved with...
But she didn't precise to whom.
"Yes." Ash nodded. "It is true."
Boredom.
Misty lay down on her bed, hair spread over. She looked at the ceiling. She thought of nothing.
The redhead got off the bed. She walked to her closet and took out a very particular pair of high heels. She brushed her fingers against the diamonds at the front, smiling at the beauty of this masterpiece.
"What were you thinking when you bought this, Ash?" She put on the shoes and admired her beauty in the mirror. "What do you want from me?"
Misty's life was dull. Nothing special happened in her life. She lived by herself, had no one to love. She was beautiful, but she didn't always feel beautiful. Loneliness killed her. Rudy loved her, but she didn't love him back. Misty flashed her beauty to the world everyday, but it no longer made her feel special.
She wanted something.
Picking up her phone, Misty stood in front of the mirror and took a picture, making sure to get the shoes too.
"Goes right to Instagram."
She smiled.
