17. Storms
When Jiah had left the room, Jimin turned back to Taehyung for them to go through what she had brought in.
"She crossed it out," he whispered, looking at his best friend.
Taehyung raised his eyebrow, wondering why he was whispering.
"She crossed out the company, does that mean she ruled it out as not having any ties to the mafia?"
He skimmed the papers, "Yes. I think that's what she means."
"Okay, I'm gonna go back there and check the surveillance cameras, I can't be going crazy. I have to be right."
Taehyung grabbed his arm to stop him before he left, "You still haven't checked the cameras?"
"No, I didn't think it was that important before now."
"Jimin," he let go, "I was so mad at myself when I couldn't remember who it was, and you didn't even think to check the cameras for me?"
"Tae, I didn't care before, remember? It's okay, we'll figure something out."
"Okay, you go check the security cameras, I'm going to go to my next meeting, text me if you find anything."
Shortly after Jimin had left him, there was a quiet knock at Taehyung's door before it opened slowly.
"The Bank Director just sent through the files that he will be discussing in his meeting later today so I printed them out for you," she was passing it over his desk to her and he made sure not to miss the opportunity to catch her eyes.
He was usually a good judge of character. He could normally tell if someone was going to screw him over, but why was it that when he looked into those dark caramel eyes of hers, it was as if they were only surface level deep... they had a copper barricade pushed against it.
"Uh, Jiah," he asked quickly before she was out the door.
"Yes, sir?"
"Can you please reserve me another table tonight at seven at the same restaurant."
"Of course, anything else?"
"No, that's it thank you."
The rest of Taehyung's meetings had gone by smoothly, and finally it was time for them to clock out.
Luckily, it was right then that there was a knock at his door, signalling that work was done for the day.
Turning his monitor off, he draped his long coat over his shoulders and walked to his door.
Outside, there was a woman waiting for him and he couldn't help but smirk at the navy dress she was wearing, the exact one he had bought for her after their last meeting.
The woman seemed to notice his keen eye and she tapped his chin, making him lift his gaze from her dress to her eyes, "Does it look good on me?"
"Well of course," he told her, "I picked it, didn't I?"
In his peripheral vision, however, he could have sworn he saw Jiah gag to herself, which all of a sudden made him all the more self-aware. Coughing a little awkwardly into his fist, he told Jiah to head off work and that he would see her tomorrow.
She nodded and watched as Taehyung walked to the elevator with that girl hanging on his arm.

Taehyung was not feeling it that night. All through dinner when he listened to his date's thousands of stories of how she had messed up the nail designs she was planning that day, or how she donated all the clothes she no longer wore, but accidentally included her high school prom dress in that heap and could no longer get it back or the way she curled her hair that day was completely different to how she had done it the last time they met, back when Taehyung had complimented her for it (although he couldn't see the variance at all) he was just dying to leave.
Finally when dinner was done, and Taehyung had said as many 'Oh that's great' and 'Ah that's terrible' sufficient for a lifetime, they both got up and he asked her if he could drop her off at home.
She just blinked at him for a while, not knowing what to say, all she could make out was 'Huh?'.
"I'm sorry, I just remembered I had to finish something at work by tomorrow and it had completely slipped my mind."
She frowned, stepping closer and placing a hand on the side of his face, "Are you going to go back to work now? But it's so late, and I thought we had plans."
"Hmm," he nodded, stepping backwards - which surprised them both, truth be told - and walked over to his car, opening the passenger side door open for her. "I'll drop you off."
She didn't say anything further, because although she was disappointed, she didn't want to push it with him because she was afraid of where that may lead her.

That evening, after dropping his date off, Taehyung found himself driving back to the office. He wasn't sure why he was going back, or what he was going to do when he was back, but for some reason, he felt like there was more work to be done that night.
Grasping the frigid metal door handles, he felt the cold chill through the corridor, making him regret coming back.
He went inside, regardless, and turned his lights on, taking a pile of documents on his desk to the coffee table after hanging his coat on the coat rack. He leaned against the armrest of the couch, taking his shoes off before stretching his legs across the seat, crossing one over the other.
First was the contract with Gucci, their clothing department was going to do a collaboration with this fashion line, and it would be the first in history for their country. This was the one project he had worked on the hardest, the one he was most proud of.
After reading through the three pages of conditions that the clothing company had given them, he signed the bottom of the document, placing the papers on the table.
The next few pages were for the Microsoft contract. He read over the first couple of lines, eyes starting to droop ever so slightly.
Microsoft hadn't accepted the new price their company had offered, he kept skimming through, feeling his eyes close slowly.
His nap was short-lived, however, when he felt warmth overcome him at the same instant a strong aroma of rusty metal hit him.
Without thinking, he shot his hand out, with his eyes still struggling to open, he grabbed onto whatever his hand got ahold of first.
Finally, when his eyes opened, he found himself staring right into a pool, heck, a lagoon of dark coffee, the soil after the first rainfall, where precipitation just wouldn't stop for days and office workers would have to take days off because the hassle of ploughing through traffic wouldn't be worth it, the kind of rain that farmers would be praying for after a year long drought. It was storming, it was dark, it was conflicted.
He found himself furrowing his own eyebrows, looking into these eyes, somehow wanting those storms to clear.
How he hated the rain that was torrential enough to make his employees skip work.
How he hated the storms in her eyes.
