Thus is why the book is called Dreams woven to reality because Subarus dream was always to have a family with kou as for kou in question they also deeply wanted a family with Subaru, they knew it'd be hard to find a way to make plans for some kind of surgery but they decided against it and reiji found a way for kou to be reborn and come out looking the same except the only thing that'd be diffrent is that kou would be reborn as Emily and this is only the begining of their story 

Yes this entire arc before the reborn process is the prologue arc persay and then there's an arc where the new couple Emily and Subaru (emi for short she loves when Subaru calls her emi but only he can call her that and maybe yui because honestly Emily kinda still Ioves yui after being reborn how could she not? Yui is like her best freind and she'd do anything for her and don't think that laito doesn't do anything about it (twt typical laito being the enemy figure here IM SORRY TWT IDEAS ARE FLOODING MY BRAIN DONT HATE ME

Anyway Emily doesn't really like laito that much but he on the other hand gets attached to her almost immediately after seeing her he has no idea why because he was completely on board with making sure Subaru doesn't try anything silly with them before this happened and now look at him he has to watch what he does around her
