Prologue

"How old is the subject?" Alexander asked, walking alongside the employed scientist.

His son was lallygagging behind them, his head lost in curiosity. He glanced from side to side looking at the kids hiding behind glass. Each one was different, some were girls, some were boys. The peculiarity about the children was that each of them could do extraordinary things. He saw one girl exploding with lightening and another was shaping water into ice and steam with her hands while there was a boy emitting flames of raging uncontrollable fire and a second boy moving objects with his eyes it appeared.

The boy began to feel jealous that he had no powers, and wished he could be like them.

"She is your son's age I believe," the scientist answered Alexander.

Alexander peered back at his son who was sulking now. He smiled slightly. "What's the matter, Kane?"

Kane looked up, his cheeks ablaze. "Why am I not special like them?"

Alexander gave a small chuckle and leaned down to ruffle his son's hair. "You are special too Kane, you just don't see it yet."

Kane grumbled but felt a little better at his father's touch.

"It's this way sir," the scientist gestured towards a door that was a few paces ahead of them.

Kane became intimidated by the big door in front of them. He clenched his small fists and trudged forward, trying to look strong for his dad. He had to be brave if he was going to be leader of the world like his dad. A day would come when he'd have to walk through all sorts of scary doors like this one.

"And what sort of ability does this child possess?" Alexander questioned as they all moved through the door.

The scientist pulled on his collar,   and cringed. "We don't know exactly what to call it yet... it's not what we predicted."

When they walked into the room, Kane hurried in and pushed in between the two men to see what was before them. There was a little girl, maybe 6, sitting on the white ground of her enclosed glass cell, coloring. She didn't look up at anyone, not even Kane. It made him angry.

"Hey!" He shouted at her like he did sometimes at the zoo animals and smacked the glass.

"Now now Kane, don't agitate her." His father warned, curiously watching the girl.

Kane bit his lip, and waited for whatever the lab coat guy and his father were being so patient for.

"Go in Cory," the scientist announced and a man suddenly entered through the back of the room.

The little girl grew rigid and tense, her fingers dropping the crayon. It rolled away from her as she slowly lifted her head at Cory. At first she did nothing. Then he took a step closer and she screamed, her blue eyes turning bright green. Cory backed away, falling to the ground holding his head. The girl had stopped screaming but was crying as she held her hands at him. Cory screamed louder, Kane feeling mortified.

"Leave me alone!" She cried and suddenly there was an eruption of power that blasted from her whole body.

The power was so strong the whole building had shaken. There on the floor was a broken necked Cory, his body left lifeless in shambles. He had been killed with the single blow of a six year old.

"What just happened?" Alexander quietly asked the scientist.

Kane stood silently in front of the glass, watching as the little sad, and scared girl kneeled beside Cory, sobbing. He couldn't decide if he was captivated or disturbed by this girl, he just knew he couldn't look away.

"Well we hadn't been able to find any ability from the girl until we used excessive fear instilling and that's how she finally cracked. Cory and several others got to her to reveal her powers. And whatever she just did is what she is capable of." The scientist explained to Alexander.

Alexander quickly turned to the scientist. "I want your focus to become this child, do everything you can to figure out in the ins and outs of how she works."

The scientist nodded quickly, continuing to talk to Alexander. Kane looked up at his father noticing how entranced he seemed. There was a new gleam to his eyes, a shimmer of crazy.

Glancing back at the glass he saw that the girl had stopped crying and now she was watching Kane. She blinked a few times, curious.

Kane waved at her, and put his other hand on the glass. Slowly she walked up to it and placed her hand against his through the glass. He gave a smile, and cocked his head at her. At first the girl just stared blankly at him, but then her lips perked and she grinned at him.

"What's your name?" Kane asked her.

"She doesn't have a name," the scientist suddenly interrupted them, and was glaring at Kane.

"But—" Kane started, and his dad gave him a stern glance.

Removing his hand, Kane walked away from the girl and came closer to his father. Alexander took his son's hand, pulling him towards the exit. His mind was wild with delight and and new found faith. This girl would the future of an army. A domination.

"Dad, why is she sad?" Kane asked his father.

Alexander smiled softly. "She's been broken, Kane. But we're going to help put her together again."

Kane felt a tug at his heart when he glanced back at the girl behind the glass. She stood up and glared at them just as the door shut behind Kane and his father.

Kane had decided that he wanted to be like that girl. He wanted to be tough. Strong. But he wouldn't let people see him cry. That would be his superpower. He would be feared by anyone who knew him...

And one day.

He'd rule the world.
