CHAPTER TWENTY FOUR.
"I run when things are good. And never really understood the way you laid your eyes on me in ways that no one ever could"
HALSEY — "sorry"
"What did you get for number 5?" The voice of Ada through our video call hits my ears. Not moving my eyes away from the piece of paper in front of me, while the sound of old and used punching bags surrounds me, I stare down at the answer my friend asked me to give her.
"932, why?"
Not getting an reply from her, my eyes go towards her in my phone screen staring with a confused look. "I thought we were doing our psychology homework. Unless there is an historian who is called 932 that I don't know about."
"Yeah, well," Now the smell of sweaty bodies rushes through my nose "psychology bored me so I moved to chemistry."
After letting a chuckle escape her mouth, Ada rests her back on the chair. "Why did you call me to do our homework together, then?"
I innocently shrug my shoulders. "It was an excuse to call you and hear your lovely voice."
"No, you were bored."
"Yeah." I also rest my back on the chair, admitting my defeat against my best friend who knows me like I know the palm of my own hand.
"Aren't you supposed to be working right now?"
Staring away from her, finding Colin and Paul training with each other on the ring and two more boys hitting bags, a long and tired sigh comes out of my mouth. "I already did all of the laundry, most of the boys have a free day today and there's barely any people here. Colin and Paul are training so I can't annoy them, and Bobby isn't supposed to come until 6. I'm dying here."
Another chuckle comes from my friend. "Annoy Lucifer."
Immediately, my heart jumps a beat.
"Ugh." Rolling my eyes, I go back to the paper in front of me even if the numbers aren't really numbers anymore and they're starting to not make any sense. "I don't want to talk about him."
"Why not?"
"When have I ever been excited to talk about Lucifer?"
"Good point— wait, is he there?"
I happily shake my head. "Nope. Thankfully."
A little laugh comes from Ada. "He could've found a way to entertain you." With her cheeky yet soft tone, it makes my eyes go to her. Finding nothing but a evil little smile on her lips, my eyebrow goes immediately up.
"Why are you smiling right now?"
Innocently, she shrugs her shoulders. "No reason."
"Ada, you're not the innocent kid you seem to be. Don't."
"I didn't say anything!"
I bring my face closer to the camera. "I can read your mind, bitch."
"You love me"
"I hate you."
Another laugh. "Don't tell Lucifer, he's gonna get jealous!"
A head getting in between me and my phone prevents me from saying anything to her words. "Hi Ada!" Colin says excitedly.
"Hi Colin!"
"Is Ryker there with you? You look pretty good Ada," he doesn't wait for an answer "wanna go on a date with me?"
Letting out a chuckle, Ada shakes her head. "Ryker's not here, Colin."
"Damn," I can finally let my best friend see my face once Colin moves away to my side "I wanted to annoy him." Realising that his mission failed, Colin and his evil eyes go to me placing his arm around my shoulders.
I immediately push him away, feeling the sweat of his body dripping on mine. "Get—! You're sweaty!"
"C'mon, you can't tell me that a boy being sweaty on top of you annoys you." After I hear a laugh coming from Ada, the palm of my hand quickly flies to his cheek to push it away in a quick swing. "Ouch."
"HI ADA!" Paul's loud words shake everything inside my head as he stands by my other side, just as sweaty as Colin.
Damn— he's loud!
"Hi, Paul!"
"Looking good as always."
"Ryker is not here, Paul."
"Damn—!"
"Are you guys done with your training?" I can't help but ask taking a look to their sweaty bodies getting closer and closer to mine... that's perfectly clean.
"Ha! I wish!" Paul shakes his head, tiredly.
"We still have two more sets to go." Colin adds leading my eyes to him.
"Covaliov isn't here until 7, you guys can skip one."
"Look at Lilith Avery," Colin gets even closer sending the smell of his body up my nose "being the bad influence. I like my girls bad." My palm, just like last time, pushes his face away. "Ouch, again."
"As much as I would like to listen to you," Paul ignores Colin "if any of us skip at least one of our sets, Covaliov will know."
"He can smell it."
At this point, my believes of Covaliov being a wizard are close to not being a believe anymore, but a fact. "Ew." I can't help but make a disgusted expression, soon followed by Colin.
"Exactly."
"Oh, hi baby." Ada speaking on my phone brings my eyes and the two boys by my side to her. She's not facing me anymore, instead, her eyes are glued to her left side while a big happy smile is on her lips.
Ugh.
"Is that Ryker?" Paul immediately heads closer to the camera.
"Ada!" Colin follows him. "You look lovely!"
"You wanna go on a date?!"
"No, with me!"
"Shut up, Ada loves me!"
"No, are you crazy?! She adores me!"
I can't help it, a laugh does escape my mouth.
"Ha, ha, very funny guys." Ryker finally appears on the screen with a tight shirt covering his body, a messy hair and tired eyes, probably back from work. "It didn't annoy me the first time it's not gonna annoy me the tenth time."
"Dude," Paul says without replying to Ryker "I thought you weren't supposed to come today." Intrigued on what's he talking about, my eyes lead to him finding that they're not looking to Ryker, instead, located by his other side towards the door, a familiar tall and dark blonde man appears in my sight.
Just like before, my heart jumps a beat.
If I didn't die without my heart, I would've already taken it out of my own body. I hate it when it does that.
Lucifer, shrugging his shoulders as his feet take him towards the ring, passing the desk we're all at, my eyes can't help but follow him. His hair is messy while his torso is hidden under a tight grey shirt, showing his muscles and defined body like it is a statue. Perfectly carved. His confident walk with a slight movement of the shoulders make my eyes enable to look away, mesmerised by the way he moves.
I can live without my eyes, right?
"I was bored." Lucifer finally says, dropping his bag on the floor to then soon take off his shirt. Finally, as quick as they can move, my eyes surprisingly look away as if me watching his naked chest was illegal.
"You were bored?" Paul asks, surprised. "You don't come here when you're bored."
"You hit the town," Colin adds, without leaving my side "some clubs, take a lady home."
"Not in the mood."
Feeling a pair of eyes on me, my head swings up without my brain thinking about it. Inevitably, our eyes connect. Sending nothing but a tingle to the pit of my stomach, the way his eyes shine as times before, they wrap mine with his like a red string is holding us together, so strong, that not even the sharpest knife in the world could break it apart.
No grin forms on his face, not even a smirk or a tiny smile, nothing. Lucifer just stares at me as if memories were flying around his head while he's staring at me. I can't help but wonder what's going through his head, maybe the night before at the dinner party with my grandparents, us fighting afterwards and ending up with him leaving the party... without even saying a word to me. Why did he left? I still don't know. And I can't pretend like I didn't had that question running in my mind since it happened.
Finally, placing his training shirt on his body, Lucifer looks away from me leading towards the bag behind him, ready to start his training once his hands are protected.
"Wow." Colin says by my side, very aware of Lucifer and I and our intense eye contact.
"Seems like you two are passed the whole hating each other." Paul says, obviously sarcastically. Or at least, I hope so.
"But the sexual tension is still there, my god!"
"Through the roof!"
Rolling my eyes, my attention goes to the paper in front of me trying to keep doing my homework, for the third time in a couple of minutes. "Shut up."
"Ooooh." Colin follows my words excited.
"No, I get to say it!"
Placing his face by the side of mine, hitting me with the air coming out of his nose, Colin gets ready to annoy me like he has never done before. "Make me."
I hear a laugh coming from Ada on my phone.
"You guys are annoying."
Paul and Colin high five each other. "Proudly!"
Not wanting to be around these boys anymore, with my pity eyes and a sad smile, my face goes towards the camera. "Ada, save me." I beg, but it's only followed by a laugh from her.
"C'mon, you adore us."
"You loooove us."
"You waaaaant us."
Hugging me at the same time by both of my sides, the sweat of Colin and Paul dripping from their bodies immediately surrounds mine, gaining nothing but a disgusted noise coming from me as I try to push them away.
"You guys are sweaty! Move!" They don't seem to be bothered by my hand pushing their bodies, they're persistent on annoying me for as long as they can. Leaving a wet and noisy kiss on my cheek, Colin then proceeds to bring his arms to my waist and pull me closer to him. Paul, on my other side, decides to do the same and leave a longer and wetter kiss on my cheek.
They need to know I don't give a shit they're boxers... I'm gonna beat the fuck out of them.
"I hate you guys!" My hand tries one more time to push them away, but there's no case, Colin, Paul and the strength their bodies has is nothing compare to what my weak arms can do.
"Hey, Colin," finally, Paul leaving my side to stare at something by the ring, it leads to Colin also taking his attention towards him "maybe we can't get to Ryker, but we sure can get to Lucifer."
Not understanding what's he referring to, once my head stares up to their faces, finding that they have their eyes glued to the ring, my own can't help but lead towards the mysterious thing they're staring at.
Those green eyes don't wait to meet mine. Lucifer has his jawline clenched like he's biting the inside of his cheek. He's no longer wearing a shirt, instead, his torso is out in the open leading my eyes to his tattoos. Dark and perfectly made, they compliment his body even if he's not relaxed, but tense and without giving me the impression of being concentrated on his boxing at all.
When he moves his eyes towards my body, it can't help but speed my breathing once my heart jumps to my stomach.
It loves it when he does it.
But my brain? It hates it.
"Is he jealous?" Ada's question on my phone bring all of our eyes to her, mine and the two boys still by my side.
"Oh," Colin immediately nods "a hundred percent."
I can't help but roll my eyes. "He's not, Ada, they're lying."
As a chuckle escapes my friend and her back lays on the back of the chair, my head can tell she doesn't believe me, not even a little bit.
"I can't believe you missed that, Ada." Paul says, getting close to the camera with a huge smile on his lips, clearly proud of what he's done.
"I've seen Lucifer jealous a hundred of times. I'm fine."
"It was so fun, we should do it again."
I immediately lift my arms to prevent them hugging me again. "No—!" Thankfully, non of them bring their bodies close to mine, instead, when the door of the gyms opens and a confused Bobby with his perfectly cut curly hair appears in front of us, our whole attention goes to him.
"Hi, Bobby." I say to get the weird look on his face away, but it doesn't work, his eyes stare down at the floor like he's calculating the most difficult math problem of all time.
"Looking like you've seen a ghost." Paul confesses, still by my side. "Are you alright, dude?"
Bobby shakes his head, finally meeting our eyes. "I think I just saw worst."
"What's worst than a ghost?" Colin asks.
Bobby doesn't reply to his question immediately, instead, he goes quiet as his head is still trying to process if what he saw was real or not. It doesn't look like he's coming up with an answer, confused on his own sight, Bobby slowly shakes his head.
"Damian's car."
Immediately, the whole energy in the room changes.
It goes tense, almost breaking into chaos.
Paul and Bobby leave my side to walk towards Bobby. I end the call with Ada, she doesn't mind, she's too focused on Ryker now. Lucifer, had perfectly heard Bobby's word, appears by his other side with his jawline so clenched it looks like it's gonna tear itself apart.
Why does he look so hot even angry?
"Where?" Lucifer asks, firmly and determined, not afraid of the answer he might hear.
Damn, that doesn't help my eyes and how mesmerised they are by him.
"Parked in front of the gym." Bobby answers, still processing if what he saw was indeed his car.
"That's impossible." Colin and Paul both shake their heads.
Is it that bad that Damian's car is parked outside?
"Did it have a boxing sticker on the back of it?" Lucifer asks, and for the way that he says it, like a question but calmly, as if he already answered in his head, bring me to believe he's feet are ready to take him outside.
Why am I nervous for him?
This doesn't look like it's gonna end well. Lucifer being angry and Damian, who's always ready to get under his skin...
Please, Bobby, say no.
Bobby nods. "Yeah."
Shit.
Lucifer shakes his head, angrily. "Son of a bitch." He doesn't wait for a response from anyone, like I expected, his body walks towards the door ready to confront the boy on the other side.
"Lucifer." My tongue says before my brain allows it. And even worst, my feet follow him too.
I don't know what I'm doing, and when Lucifer opens the door for our eyes to see the red car and a smiley Damian resting his waist by the side of it, my brain goes even more confused on the situation. Not leaving my eyes away from him, they see how his arms are across his chest, his perfectly brushed black hair and his dark green jacket, confidently standing as if he owned the place.
For my surprise, when my eyes lead to Lucifer, they're not staring at Damian, instead, they're located on mine. He doesn't say a word and neither do I, there's nothing my tongue wants to say. Or, worst, it can't find anything. The confusion consumes me.
My eyes follow how Lucifer takes a step closer to me, almost covering my whole body with his own from the sight of Damian as he turns to face him, who's still enjoying the sight in front of him.
"There are my boys!" Damian's voice surrounds us when the rest of the boys stand by my side. "Wait, where's Ryker? He's missing."
Paul takes a step forward. "Is it too hard for you to understand that you're not allowed to be here, Damian?"
Damian lets out an even bigger smile hearing those words. "Hi, Paul. Looking good."
"I don't think your coach knows you're here." Colin, who's now by Paul's side, says. "Are you a little bad boy?"
Lifting his arms into the air, Damian slowly shakes his head. "I don't want any trouble."
"You talk like we give a shit about what you want." Finally, Lucifer joins the conversation with his determined and firm voice. He doesn't move a tiny step away from my body, almost as if he's enabling Damian from acknowledging my presence there.
"Hi, Lucifer." Damian, with the cockiest smile ever, stares at Lucifer like he's been waiting to engage a conversation with him since he stepped out of his own car. "I can tell you're training for our fight." He says, nodding. "Nervous?"
A fake chuckle escapes Lucifer's mouth. "Is that what you've been dreaming about?"
"I don't think I like you that much to dream about you, Lucifer."
The tension between them all can be felt for miles, they want to tear each other apart. Even I, who's still confused on the whole Damian and his group situation, feel the tension rushing through my body like an electric wire has been connected to it.
"But do you want me to tell who I dream about?" Damian's voice speaks again. "And the things we do?"
Knowing what he's doing, Damian, for the first time since the conversation started, manages to meet his eyes with mine. Sending a strange chilling tingle to the back of my neck, I can't help but furrow my eyebrows giving in to the confusion that surrounds me. Why's he staring at me now?
My tongue doesn't say anything, since Lucifer, who's still extremely close to my body, sends another fake chuckle our way. "Good thing it only happens in your dreams because in real life... you don't even stand a chance."
"And who does?" Damian lifts an eyebrow, challenging him with his own words. "You?"
Now I'm even more confused. What did the conversation turn into?
"What are we talking about?" I whisper to Bobby, who hasn't left my side. But I get no response from him, it looks like Damian is gonna speak again.
"Looks like you managed to dig yourself a deep hole that you can't get out of."
Not understanding, my eyes lead to Lucifer expecting a reply from him. But there's nothing coming, only silence and his slightly quicker chest breathing all the air it can. His eyes are killing Damian, wanting him to explode any second now. His head is looking for an answer, those words caught him off guard and his brain can't come up with something quick to say, almost as if he's still processing what he just heard.
"Doing it again?" Lucifer finally speaks. "You know you can't beat me in the ring so you try it with your words?"
"You're so confident in your win, Donovan. I wouldn't be so sure."
"Covaliov's coming any minute now." Bobby's whisper to Paul and Colin get my attention before my eyes can focus on Lucifer once again.
"He can't see him. It's definitely gonna be worst than it already is."
"What are you doing here, Damian?" Colin, agreeing with the two boys whispering by his side, asks clearly annoyed at the presence of Damian.
"Yeah, please," Bobby continues "tell us so we can get over with this whole stupid game you like to play."
Smiling, Damian doesn't get affected by those words. "Is Covaliov here?"
"That's non of your business."
"That's a no."
"No, it's a get the hell out of here."
Once again, Damian meets my eyes. It's like he's waiting to get a reaction from the boys by doing so, even if Lucifer's body covers half of mine, he still manages to find my eyes as if he's waiting for my mouth to say something.
I don't.
What could I?
Hey, what the fuck is going on?
My head knows that no matter how many times I ask that question, I won't get an answer from the boys surrounding me. Like the whole situation between them all is a complete secret, and knowing it may lead to me being involved in something I shouldn't be.
Like Lucifer said—
"Stop looking at her." His angry and firm raspy voice brings me back to reality, realising that Damian's eyes are still glued to mine, smiling like he can't wait to get on everyone's nerves.
My eyes lead to Lucifer, who hasn't changed since I last saw him, with annoyance and anger rushing through his veins, even more now, that Damian still doesn't look away. Sending a bit of chills down to the pit of my stomach, I fight the urge to get mesmerised by the way Lucifer looks, so determined to kill Damian right on this moment... just because he won't stop staring.
"Why? She's the reason why I'm here." Damian replies, with obviousness in his tone.
My head quickly turns to the boy, surprised at what my ears just heard. "What?"
"The fuck did you just say?" Lucifer takes a step forward. So many waves of anger rushed through his voice, that I get goosebumps just by hearing it.
"Lilith?" Bobby asks, as surprised as everyone.
"This Lilith?"
"Me?"
A fake chuckle escapes Damian's mouth. "The lovely Lilith, yes. I want to talk to her. Alone."
Lucifer, since he stepped away from my body earlier, he goes back to his prior place covering my body from Damian, but this time, even closer, allowing me to feel the texture of his shirt brush against my skin. "You're out of your mind if you think I'm gonna let you talk to her."
Why does Damian wants to talk to me? Annoy everyone? He's already done that by being here. What could he possible earn by talking to me?
"And you're gonna stop me?"
"In case you haven't noticed there's three more boys in front of her." Colin says, now walking closer to Lucifer.
The curiosity of why burns inside of me. Even if I have no desire on talking to him whatsoever, I won't be able to walk away from this if I don't answer it.
From the way Lucifer looks, almost as if fire is gonna fly out of his nose, there's no doubt in my mind that if Damian stays any longer... it's not gonna end well.
"Guys." I say, trying to get their attention. The decision in my head is not definitive, but my tongue speaks before I can even put more thought into it.
"I just want a word."
Lucifer, yet again, lets out a fake chuckle. "And I just want you to understand that if you even look at her again, I'm gonna take off your eyes, but I guess we can't have everything."
Oh...
Oh.
If he still talking about me?
Yes, Lilith, is there another her in here? Damn, I'm stupid sometimes.
Why is he getting so angry? I mean, I know he doesn't like anything that involves Damian, but saying those words... so angry, determined, firmly as if there was absolutely no lie in his voice. My eyes can't seem to look away from Lucifer, admiring the side of his face clenching his jawline, breathing normally even if his eyes don't look like it, hating everything their seeing. And his body, his damn body, enabling mine to be seen by Damian, like he's protecting it from any danger that could happen at any moment.
Shit.
Why are the butterflies coming back now?
"This is amazing." Damian says without looking away from Lucifer, giving him a smile as he slowly shakes his head after hearing the last words. Damian doesn't hold back on showing in his face the thought that's going through his head. "Lucifer... oh, no. The hole is even bigger than I expected."
Again, what's this hole he's talking about?
"Lucifer." Bobby tries to get his attention understanding what's Damian talking about, but there's not a single hint of Lucifer looking away affected by those words, even if he's trying not to show it on his face.
"Damian, we won't let you talk to her." Colin speaks since Lucifer doesn't.
"Then, I'm gonna stay here until she's out."
"We're gonna be with her." Paul continues.
"Not all night."
"You're forgetting we like Lilith and we're willing to stay by her side all week."
Uh...
I lift my hand into the air. "Can I get a say in that?"
Not giving attention to my question, Damian, clearly enjoying the enabling of coming out with a word Lucifer, turns to him sending a little innocent smile his way "Lucifer... a simple conversation. Or are you that deep into her?"
He's winning. Damian's getting what he wants. For some reason, Damian talking about me or even mentioning my name sends nothing but a type of anger to Lucifer. A quick chest, a clenched jawline and annoyed eyes. It doesn't matter that he knows I don't give a shit, Lucifer can't help but want to kill the man in front of him for doing what he's doing; using me as an excuse to get to Lucifer.
Why does it work? I have no clue. And I know that if I try to put my head around it, there's no way I'm coming up with an answer. He hates me. He hates my guts and every stubborn word that comes out of my mouth. Him reacting like this makes absolutely no sense to me, but for the way that he takes a step closer as he's ready to talk, my head knows it's gonna burst all into chaos.
So... "I'm talking you, Damian." I say, before Lucifer can open his mouth.
Immediately, I have all four boys turning to face me with their bodies surrounding mine.
"Hey, you shouldn't." Colin says, leading my eyes to him.
"It's fine."
"No, it's not." Paul agrees with his friend.
Bobby, before I can even let a word out, shakes his head. "Lilith, please don't."
For the first time since I said those words, Lucifer places his hand on my arm to gently grab it. Inevitably, my eyes meet his, with no anger or annoyance in them anymore, just plan worry as he can't seem to comprehend why I decided what I did. "Lilith—"
"Yeah, yeah," I nod "he's dangerous, blah blah— if he tries something I'll just cut his tongue out. It's gonna be alright."
"No—"
"No?" I cut him off again. "You get to decided who I talk to now?"
Slowly shaking his head, Lucifer steps closer for only me to hear his words. "Stop."
"Stop what? He's being an asshole, I know, but he won't leave my ass unless I talk to him, I'm tired and hearing his voice annoying you all is making it worst. I'm only gonna give him five minutes." I expect the guys around me to be on board with my words, but not even one of them seems to agree with me. "Guys, I'll be fine." I try again.
"We trust you," Colin does a quick look to Damian, who hasn't changed his sweet innocent smile since before "we don't trust him."
"Yeah, me neither." I agree. "But what's the worst thing this guy can say to me? Ask me on a date?"
Bobby quickly shakes his head. "That would be the absolute worst."
Paul, disgusted as I am, touches the side of my arm. "Please say no."
"Believe me, I rather you hugging me again with your sweaty body than saying yes to Damian." Even if the tension is still flying around all of us, I manage to gain a little laugh from the boys close to me, except Lucifer.
"Alone, guys." Damian speaks, again.
Rolling his eyes, Colin turns to Damian. "We know, dumbass!"
"Be careful." Paul gently pinches the side of my arm as he gives a sweet yet worried look.
I nod, with the intention to make him feel better. He finally leaves my side, soon followed by Bobby and Colin, who don't waste the opportunity to give Damian a last look... those who say that if you fuck up, they won't hold back.
My mouth flies a sigh out of mouth, ready to hear the words of the boy in front of me. I take a step closer— "I said alone, Lucifer." But Damian's voice stops me.
Turning around, for my surprise, my eyes find Lucifer still there looking at me as if letting me go talk to Damian would be the biggest mistake of his life.
"I'm not gonna leave you with him." Lucifer takes a step closer to me, touching with the tip of his fingers the side of my arm.
"It's fine—"
"You don't know that."
"You don't know it's gonna be bad either."
"With Damian, it's more 90% of being bad than good."
I roll my eyes. "Just go."
"I won't leave until I talk to her." Damian's voice annoys my insides, more than anything I've ever heard.
Annoyed, as he lets out a long breath out to control himself, Lucifer rolls his eyes bringing his face closer to him. "I'm gonna kill him."
"I'll join."
Joining his other hand on my other arm, Lucifer makes sure I'm the only one who hears his words. "I'm gonna be on the other side of that door, if he even touches you, I'm intervening."
Even if Lucifer being protective over me like this, sends nothing but a strange tingle feeling to the pit of my stomach, I nod. "And I'll watch. Happily."
"Deep, deep hole, Lucifer."
Damian... he better shut the fuck up.
"What does he mean by that?" I can't help but ask. Seeing that Lucifer isn't leaving, my hands lead to his chest to push him backwards. "Go, or after I'm done cutting Damian's tongue out, I'll do yours." I joke, but no laugh comes from Lucifer, instead, doing an angry look to Damian he finally takes a step back heading towards the door, leaving my sight almost immediately.
"Finally, us two alone." Damian can't help but say almost immediately after the door is closed. My feet turn around to face him, grinning at me waiting for my body to get closer. I do that, stopping a couple of inches away.
"What do you mean by deep hole?" My tongue asks intrigued.
Slowly shaking his head, Damian leaves the side of his car. "You'll find out eventually."
"Great, you're on your mysterious mood." I add, sarcastically. Tired of his voice, my head can not wait any longer to answer the burning question of why he asked to talk to me. "You managed to get all the boys to leave you alone so you could talk to me and annoy them. Got what you wanted... is that all?" I push him for his mouth to talk. "I really want to get back inside."
"And what?" He asks, defensively. "Be with Lucifer?"
Furrowing my eyebrows, the strange feeling of being surprised by his tone causes me to slightly tilt my head to the side looking for an explanation in his eyes. But there's nothing there, just plain darkness. "What? I work here. I shouldn't be talking to you, dumbass."
"Who says?"
"Me. I said it was over the last time we talked, Damian." Suddenly, like my words acted as a switch inside of him and everything changed, the way that his eyes turn from nothing to a shining pain, leads my head to an annoying shake, brushing whatever happened inside his head away. "C'mon, don't pretend to be hurt, you only took me to that party because you wanted to piss off Lucifer." Even if my words are true, Damian doesn't even seem to be faced by them.
Worst, now the strange shine turns into spite. "Didn't you said yes to going out with me because you wanted to make him jealous?" I don't answer. Admitting he's right even in my head isn't an option, because... I don't know. I didn't. Did I? "Are you in love with him?" His question gets me off guard.
What?
In... love? Not even in a million years. What took Damian to believe such a complete absurd idea?
"The only one who looks in love with Lucifer is you," I defend myself "you can't stop talking about him. Are you that jealous?" My words seem to be affecting him. Maybe annoying him would lead to him leaving me alone. Worked so far with a bunch of people... "You act all this tough guy even if deep down you probably think that you could never be as good as he is? Is that it?" A fake chuckle escapes my mouth.
Anger rushes through his eyes. If there was any sort of pain or even worry in his prior eyes, it's all gone. My words punched him in the face like he's never been punched before.
"You're just a whore."
Ha!
"Yes I am." I nod, giving him a tiny smile. "And you still couldn't hit. Lucifer did though, right after I told you our "date" was over." I have no idea if telling Damian that Lucifer and I slept with each other was a good idea, but there's no way that I could stop now, Damian's eyes show nothing but totally anger and annoyance, he wanted to play with me and underestimating me in the process... took him to fall under my own move. "Look how the tables have turned, you're the one annoyed and angry now." I fake a laugh. "You wanted to fuck him? Go ahead, it would be nice for him to be also interested in men." I joke shrugging my shoulders. "More fun that way. Talking from experience." He doesn't say anything even if I keep my mouth shut expecting him to insult me or even let out angry words. Nothing. Just his eyes staring at me with a mix of anger, and a spark of frustration, so tiny, that somehow it gives me the impression Damian is trying his hardest to keep it in. "What? Got nothing to say now? You wanted to talk to me. Do it."
"I hope you don't get hurt from all of this." He finally says after a couple of seconds of silence.
Surprised by his words, I let my head focus on them instead of his eyes. "What are you talking about?"
"You like to play games, Lilith, but this game isn't something that you should be involve in."
I roll my eyes once again. "Being mysterious again?"
Is there gonna be a time where I get an actual answer from these boys?
"No, just saying the truth."
"Well, your truth doesn't really make sense. You just box each other—"
"It's not only that." He cuts me off.
"Then what is it?" I ask even if my head knows I'm not gonna get an answer.
Not too much for my surprise, Damian shakes his head. "I don't think I would like to die if I ever told you about it."
"What?" I fake a chuckle. "A red dot is gonna appear in your chest if you start talking?"
"No, but if Lucifer finds out I told you, he's actually gonna kill me."
The butterflies don't wait to come back, just as my heart jumps to my stomach.
That easy, huh?
"I thought your purpose in life was to annoy him." I say softly, trying to ignore whatever is going on inside of me.
Damian brings the look on his eyes to the floor, probably not wanting me to stare at the sudden change of his expression because of my words. "Not my purpose." He finally says, gently and softly, that it was almost brushed away by the wind surrounding us.
"Then who's?" I push the conversation again.
He doesn't answer. Like always. Meeting my eyes, Damian sends a tiny smile my way. "Stay away from all of this."
"Sure, I'm gonna listen to you."
"I'm serious."
"And I'm secretly Spider Man." I'm getting tired of the non answers, of the games and the mysterious words. "Is that what you wanted to tell me? Why you made all the boys leave? Warn me?" I get no response from him, but that, answers my questions anyway. "Why do you care?"
"I don't."
"There's a reason why you're here."
"Just stop talking and do as I say, damn it!" Angrier than before, Damian doesn't hold his annoyance and frustration anymore. He snaps at me with a louder tone as he takes a step closer, but I don't step away, holding my place strongly.
"Excuse me?" I shake my head. "Here we go again, the Damian that I know. Bravo. I wondered when you were gonna show up. What's up with all these boys thinking that they can talk to me like this? Tell me what to do? Jesus!" Annoyed, my eyes don't look away from him finding the same spite face as before. "Is that all, Damian?"
Even if I asked that question, I don't wait for an answer. Instead, my feet immediately turn around to head towards the door and finally leave the wannabe mysterious boy behind.
Ugh! If I could get money from the times these type of guys thought that they could talk to me I would be a millionaire!
There's not a single vein or thought of mine that likes it when people tell me what to do, it boils everything inside of me leading the anger rushing my blood. Mixing that with getting in my business just makes me want to punch everyone until they can't talk anymore. It's my life! Mine! Who are they to tell me what I should or shouldn't do?! I'm a grown woman who can make her own decisions! Good or bad! They're mine to take!
Fuck!
Only a good bowl of cereal is gonna calm me down now.
"What did he want?" Lucifer's question hits my face before I can even finish to process everything.
I don't feel like talking about it, my head is a complete mess and the annoyance rushing through my veins won't carry the conversation into a normal one. "Nothing." I simply say, shaking my head once I leave the now closed door heading towards the desk.
"Lilith," I don't turn to face Lucifer, his body following me behind my back is all I notice "talk to me." His tone is concerned with a mix of intrigue.
"No."
"Did he say something that got you mad?"
"You're saying something that's getting me mad."
"What? Lilith—!"
I finally arrive by the desk. Grabbing the hundred of papers on top, my hands take it upon themselves to organise them for Covaliov. Even if I need to do my job, slowly, I come with the realisation that I'm only doing this to forget about Damian and his words.
"Did he hurt you?" Lucifer doesn't quit, instead, pushing it further by standing by my side even if I'm not looking at him, he asks with more anger than before. I don't reply. Damian didn't hurt me, he annoyed me and got me furious. There's no escaping it.
Not getting a response from my mouth, Lucifer furiously leaves the desk towards the door. "I'm gonna kill him."
My head swings up, following his quick angry body. "If you go out that door I'll never speak to you again."
Because if you do, it means you care.
Those words came out of my mouth without my brain telling it to. Lucifer, surprised of them, immediately stops to turn around and face me. A million of thoughts run to his head, I can't seem to know not even one of them. Maybe the way he doesn't leave that door, gives me the hint of just one.
"Are you alright?" Now Colin appears by my side, followed by Bobby and Paul.
"Yes." I leave Lucifer's eyes when they don't scream anger anymore, instead, he stays there with his shining eyes as if a cold bucket of water dropped on top of his head.
"What did he say?" Bobby now asks.
I don't reply. I don't want to talk about it with Lucifer, I don't want to talk about with anyone.
"Lilith?" Paul calls my name, more softly than the other boys.
"What did he want?"
I've had enough.
"Stop! That's non of your business!"
Confused on why the sudden change of mood, Colin takes a step back from my body while my eyes don't seem to want to stare away from the papers. "We just want to make sure you're ok."
"I'm fine! Don't I look fine!?" The sound of the loud papers being laid down by my hands shakes the walls, giving the opposite impression of what I just said.
"Do you really want us to answer that?" Colin asks, soon being slapped in the arm by Paul.
"Go back to doing what you were doing and stop bothering me."
"Damian said something to make you like this?" Bobby, now with a gentler tone, asks me as he takes the risk of getting closer to me and lay his hand on my shoulder.
My tongue doesn't speak. Somehow, the frustration runs quicker inside my veins. The questions aren't helping me get better. Not at all.
Closing my eyes, a long sigh escapes my mouth.
"I'm gonna take that as a yes."
Colin, brusquely leaves the desk. "If I go bare fist is Covaliov gonna murder me?"
I shake my head, already knowing where's he's heading. "Stop."
"You know what? I don't give a shit."
I don't open my eyes, but I do feel Bobby caressing my shoulder. "Lilith?"
"Lucifer?! Why are you stopping me?!" Colin's surprised and angry words get my attention. "You want him dead as much as I do because he hurt Lilith, probably more!"
My heart speeds, I can't bare it anymore.
"What did Damian say?" Paul whispers by my side.
Please. Stop.
"We shouldn't have let her talk to him."
Shouldn't.
Shouldn't.
"Stop!" I finally snap opening my eyes. "That's non of your fucking business! Do I have to repeat it again?! Go back to punching your tiny little bags and leave me alone!"
My feet don't wait another second, they immediately take me to the bathrooms not caring about any other word coming my way.
"Lucifer?!" I hear Colin call his name. "Aren't you gonna say anything?!" No words follow. "Now he shut ups!"
Who do they think they are?! Telling me what I should do?! Thinking that they can control who I talk to?! These boys must be insane if they think that they can talk to me like that! Don't know shit about me!
I just want to scream every piece of anger than I have inside of me. Scream it until I can't longer speak, until my throat hurts and my lungs beg for air. My skin burns, my heart speeds and my chest goes as quick as my hands brush the hair out of my face. I'm exhausted!
I don't do well with people who tell me what to do. Probably has to do with the whole I spent my entire childhood being prohibited from being who I wanted to be, or my own grandmother wanting me marry someone!
I don't fucking know, maybe!
Before I can even prevent it, my angry steps walk me towards the chair filled with clean towels for me to fold. Thank God they don't break, otherwise, with the strength and quickness that I'm grabbing them and putting them away, they would for sure turn into a million pieces.
"They worry about you." Lucifer's soft tone coming from the door steals a long sigh out of my mouth.
I roll my eyes, still not turning around to face him. "I can take care of myself."
"They know."
My head brusquely swings back to him, meeting his shining eyes with mine. "Then why did they kept asking?"
"Trusting Damian is at the top of their list of things they shouldn't do."
"Not my list. I don't give a shit about Damian."
"Yeah, I gathered that—"
"What are you doing here?" I cut him off. "Don't you have to train or something?"
"I didn't have to come in today, remember?"
"Yeah. And I also remember that you like to annoy me more than anything else." My words fly out of my mouth. Finally, Lucifer doesn't reply, instead, he doesn't even open his mouth like his brain decided to not speak. He stays quiet, wondering my eyes like they're looking for an answer in them. Frustrated and wanting to enable that, my head swings back to the towels.
I can still feel his eyes on me, trying to come up with the perfect words to say. Or just realising that there's no point or arguing anymore, my mood isn't gonna change. "When they said that they wanted to make sure you were alright, they meant it." Who am I kidding? It's Lucifer that we're talking with, there's always more arguing.
I shake my head. "I'm fine."
"You don't look like it."
"I don't give a shit about what I look or don't look like!" I look at him again, finding him getting closer to me.
"See?" He arrives closely. "This is what Damian does, he knows how to get into your head! Make you angry until there's no sane thought inside of you!"
"Maybe what he does to you, but not me! I'm completely normal!"
Why is it so fucking hard to understand that I want to be left alone?!
"Lilith—!"
"No!" I cut him off. "Stop telling me what to do! You and the boys! Stop thinking that you can tell me what I should or shouldn't do! I'm tired of it!"
My eyes do a quick look to his lips as his face gets closer.
"I stopped asking because I knew it would make you feel worst, I know you!" Lucifer does the same. "But the boys don't! Why is it so hard for you to understand that people care about you, Avery?!" Both of our eyes fly down. "There's a difference between caring and telling you what to do!" Our eyes meet, causing for my heart to skip a beat. "Fuck!"
I stay quiet with his last words rushing through my head. They have seemed to affect me more than I expected because theres not a single part g my head that saw them coming, and even worst, because deep down I know... he's right.
"Fuck you!" I shake my head.
Lucifer copies me. "Fuck you too!"
Furiously, Lucifer grabs the side of my cheeks with his hands and unites our lips together with a quick and rough crash. I don't separate us, even worst, I follow it. I follow his lips taste mine like they want to do it as much as he does. My hands don't wait to grab his waist and pull him closer, feeling the hot air stick to our skin.
It's quick, devouring all the frustration and annoyance out. Like all the anger and hate we have for each other just flew out of our mouths and it transported into the kiss. The air coming out of our noses mix together making a tornado between us. His hands hold me tight in place sending chills down to my back while our bodies press against the other, begging for more.
But we can't.
My brain jumps down to reality making me realise what we're doing here. Anyone can walk in at any moment bursting chaos in the room. We can't let that happen.
Leaving his waist, my hand lay down on his chest to push him away. I don't have to do it with a lot of strength, once Lucifer realises what my intentions are, he breaks our kiss without letting go of my cheeks.
"Fuck you." I say in the tiniest whisper, the quick air roughly coming inside my mouth doesn't allow me to do much.
"I know."
I slightly slap his chest with the palm of my hand, angry of what he has done to me, allowing for me to calm down just because his lips crushed into mine. My body giving in without questioning it, following the kiss as if he's the only pill I know to get rid of these undying sickness.
"I hate you." I say.
"I know." He follows me.
"I despise you."
"I know."
"You're the most annoying person that ever walked into my life."
"I know."
"Stop."
"Stop what?"
"Just stop."
I don't even know what I'm saying at this point, just words fly out of my mouth being carried away by the immense mix of feelings inside of my chest. My eyes don't seem to want to meet his, stare at those green eyes admiring mine until another word interrupts it. Feeling his thumb caress my cheek, I close my eyes letting my skin get used to it while my head begs for me to step away.
Move.
No.
Do it.
No.
Now.
Shut up.
Luckily for my head, a strange loud noise coming from the hallway outside the bathroom makes us separate in a quick swing, like our lives depended on it.
"Don't you think that because you two stopped I don't know you were fighting." Covaliov walks inside the room.
My body immediately miss Lucifer's closeness, but I try to brush it away by going back to the towels on top of the chair as if nothing had happened.
"I have good news, Donovan." For the way that the coach doesn't sound angry because of Damian showing up, and his words show nothing but excitement, tells me that the boys kept their mouths shut about the whole thing. "This weekend is the event."
Event?
"Already?" Lucifer sounds surprised.
"It's a big fight, my boy. Promoters can't wait any longer to have you two face each other." Probably the most expected fight of all; Lucifer against Damian. "What's the matter? This is good!" I hear Covaliov turning to face me "Avery," my eyes meet his, excited like a little kid on Christmas "I want you there."
"What?" Lucifer brusquely asks before I can, confused mixed with worry.
"What event?"
"Like you probably know," coach ignores Lucifer "this boy right here is soon gonna fight Damian Finch, you've probably heard of him."
My eyes can't help but give Lucifer a quick stare, looking how a long frustrated breath comes out of his mouth.
"Just a bit." I lie.
"This weekend is gonna be the event that will promote it, it's gonna be low-key, of course. But since there's a lot of people waiting to see it, they decided to make a bigger benefit out of it."
"They?"
Covaliov shakes his head, brushing my question away. "Don't worry about it. It's formal, so, wear something for the occasion. Dress, suit, skirt, whatever you're most comfortable with."
I nod once my eyes go back to Lucifer, he's not looking at me this time, instead, his eyes are glued on his coach as he looks ready to place a curse on him.
"God! I'm excited. My boy is gonna have that Finch boy on the ground by the first round, I can already see it!"
"You seem to have hope in Lucifer." My tongue says without my brain acknowledging it. Him, giving me a quick look, sends a shiver down to the pit of my back.
"He's the best, Avery. But, don't get your panties in a bunch, you still have to train like a motherfucker. C'mon," Covaliov shakes Lucifer's shoulder "see you in the ring in five, Donovan."
"Yes, coach."
Silence surrounds us the moment Covaliov leaves the room. I don't know what to say next, the taste of his lips over mine still swim around taking the memory of the kiss back to my head. The quickness of it, how we needed the other, asking for more the second our skins were touching. Even if we kissed a thousand of times, every time we do it it feels like the first time, like us crushing our lips together is the air that our lungs beg for and when we finally do, nothing can compare to it.
I hate him.
But here I am, wanting to kiss him again. Like only Lucifer can.
Well...
Shit.
The sound of him heading towards the door brings my eyes back to him.
"I'm sorry." He whispers out once he arrives by the door. Giving me a gentle look, the way that his eyes do a quick stare down to my lips as if his head can't help but bring the memory back like mine did, it causes for my heart to speed like a new car getting tested, excited. "You can't prevent those guys from caring about you." He carries his words so softly that my skin rises, rushing them in my head a million of times.
"What about you?" I can't help but ask.
He doesn't reply immediately. Instead, staring down one last time, as that familiar cocky grin escapes his lips, Lucifer slowly shakes his head. "We hate each other, remember?"
Without waiting for a response, his feet turn around leaving me with nothing but a complete mess of emotions.
We do.
Don't we?
