CHAPTER FIFTY FOUR.

LUCIFER
Lilith's eyes don't let go of mine for a couple of seconds. Her stare is glued on me as I try to deduce if any words are gonna soon be said by her, or at least, something that tells me what's going through her mind. I may be not as good as her at telling what people are thinking, but one tiny thought would be enough for me.
"Honey!" Celia's yell is followed by her steps going down the stairs, getting closer and closer by the second. "Who is it?!"
Lilith doesn't open her mouth, it's like her lips are glued together.
"Maybe we should talk outside, Lilith." I speak again, still, no response. "Lilith?" I call her name. "Maybe I should wave a bowl of cereal under your nose so you snap out of it." My chuckle brings her down to reality when her mouth slightly opens and her stare isn't as lost as before, Lilith seems like she's ready to talk, when her mom appears behind her, neon green robe on and fingers up in the air.
"Oh, shit." She says once her eyes lay on mine. I can't tell if her face screams hatred, happiness or surprise. She's just stays there, locked on me like her daughter.
"Who is it?!" Now Teddy is the one that yells behind Lilith, soon followed by his steps getting closer just like two other set of footsteps. His giant curls are the first thing my eyes lay on, but they're immediately stolen by the tiny smile that I see forming on the corner of his mouth.
"Lucifer!" If three people wasn't enough to find out about my presence, Lizzy Jefferson appears from behind Teddy. She has redder hair now, going perfectly with her long red nails and tattoos covering her skin. The huge smile on her face makes me question myself if she's excited or just drunk. "Did you bring the Honda?" She asks, eagerly.
Just like magic, and the word "Honda" being his favourite spell, Johnny Jefferson appears too. He also has a smile on his face, goggles for protection (something that I may not want to ask about) and giant rings that make a noise louder than his excited clap . "Oh, yeah! I can't wait to see that beauty!"
Celia prevents anyone from moving forward by standing in front of Teddy, pushing him backwards inevitable being followed by the Jeffersons. "Everybody out!" Soon, non of them are in my sight. "Out! Out! Out!"
"But I want to stay and hear what he has to say!" I hear Teddy complaint.
"Teddy, don't be noisy!"
"Don't shame me for who I am, mother!"
"Could be just go and see—" Now Johnny talks.
"No!" When Celia stops him.
"We won't bother!" Like a good wife, Lizzy supports Johnny.
Honestly, I can't lie to myself, I've missed the crazy town of Forwell.
"Do I have to ground you two?"
"I am gonna risk not going out for a week just so I can see that motorcycle!? Yes!"
After hearing a door closing, finally being able to get my attention back on Lilith, once I do, her eyes are already on mine. She doesn't seem as lost as she was before, instead, with a tiny smile on her lips and an embarrassed stare, Lilith takes a step forward and closes the front door behind her. "Welcome to Forwell, Lucifer."
"I think I had my welcome the moment I said "hello" to a statue of a cow."
I did remember it this time.
Lilith stares at me with surprise, maybe at the fact that I did say "hi" to a statue just so I don't get bad luck, according to the people from this town. If I wasn't driving, I would've wave too, to be honest.
A part of me expects a smart comment from her, making fun of me in a way that she only manages to do, but she doesn't, instead, she's staring at me with little sparkles in her eyes. I don't know if it's the light from the sky above us, or just a natural look in her, either way, I do imagine myself staring at them for the rest of my life and loving every single moment of it.
Taking the opportunity to look a her better than the moment she opened the door, I notice the light makeup that she put on. Gold eyeshadow makes her dark eyes pop, softly blended with her skin tone that it almost looks a natural color in her. Her eyelashes stand perfectly with one another, looking like a coordinated dance every time she blinks. Her cheeks have a soft pink in them, matching her glossy lips that steal my attention for the longest of times. The way she presses them together, intrigued on what could possibly be my reason of being here, how she opens them slightly afterwards, letting go of the air that I beg touches my skin soon. Mine don't waste a second and bring her taste to them, almost automatically making me want to kiss her here and then. Bring Lilith into my arms and never let her go, but, as hard as it is, my body doesn't move. Words take over my actions first.
"I'm glad I came before the wedding," I finally say "otherwise I don't think I'd be able to say what I have to say if you looked even more beautiful than you do now."
Lilith stares at me silently, letting a long breath slip out her mouth as she waits for my words.
"Joyce came over my apartment."
Her expression shifts completely. "What?"
"She told me to keep her visit a secret knowing that if you found out you weren't gonna be able to trust this. You'd thought she went there to rub it my face how we're not together..."
Lifting her eyebrows, Lilith's stare steps back for a moment. "She didn't?"
"At first even I thought that was the reason she was there, but, no, she called me stupid... for not going after you." As if my sentence was nothing but nonsense, Lilith doesn't say a word after mine. She has locked her attention on me, ready to hear and answer the questions inside her head that are probably confusing her. "She didn't want to place herself in your business, but she knew that... we make each other happy." I take a deep breath in, smiling at my own phrase filling me with excitement all over my chest. "It's true, no matter how many times you've said that you hated me, now, you make me so fucking happy Lilith. I thought that what you said hurt me but, it was the fact that I wasn't with you what caused me pain." I chuckle. "A couple of push ups made me realise it."
Noticing the confusion on Lilith's face, I add: "Coach."
"Oh." As she chuckles just like I did before, it sounds like music to my ears. "I'm not surprised but I am a little bit confused."
"Colin and Griffin."
"Now it all makes sense."
She chuckles once again. And I, stupidly enough, find myself getting lost in her. The way she slowly erases the smile in her lips as her eyes stare at mine, it's like we both want to say a thousand of words to each other that could describe what we're feeling inside, but it's impossible, at least from my part, because my feelings for her can't be describe like I said before.
But I can try.
"You said that night that all we are is pain," I continue "no matter what we do, but I disagree. What we are is not the pain, but the strength we grow each minute I spend loving you and overstepping every obstacle life may give us. I'm in love with you, Lilith Avery, and I want to be with you. There's not even a hundred slaps on the face that could make me change my mind, they wouldn't even hurt as much as me spending my life without you. If you say no, then, I'll spend the rest of my life allowing people to call me stupid because that's what I am if I dare to let myself lose you. Amazing doesn't cover who you are, Lilith, and if you allow me I want to tell you every single day." Silence follows my words, and I don't hate it. It prepares me to let out the words my brain is begging to say.
Taking a long deep breath in, my eyes are locked on her, slowly coming to the realisation of my intentions.
"Can I be your boyfriend, Lilith?"
The shine in her eyes brings light to mine. Her eyebrows lose all the tension in them as if she has lost all thoughts inside her head, only my words are what surround us.
Lilith's mouth lets go of a breath but it doesn't seem intentionally, instead, a part of me wonders if she has a thousand of words waiting to be said or nothing at all. I let myself not get consumed by the wait and let Lilith process my question, but my heart can't help it and beats a million miles per hour.
Nothing moves, not me, not her, only the wind blowing the trees around the house, when Lilith suddenly makes a long blink of her eyes and takes a step backwards. Soon after, she turns around and leaves me all my myself and the wonder of what just happened.
Not allowing myself to move, as if my feet are glued to the floor, I wait for her because my confusion hasn't make my hope disappear. What could be next is the question, yes, and my heart doesn't give me a break as I stand there hearing quick steps leading to Lilith's room.
Should if follow her? Or no, wait for her? What could possible be what Lilith is doing?
I patiently wait and wait, hearing more and more ruffle noises coming from Lilith on her room. Is she looking for something? A pillow that she could slap me with? A big sign that says "no, I would never want to be your girlfriend, you dumbass!"?
Alright, yes, I'm being dramatic.
Just as I felt like I was about to lose my mind, Lilith appears again. There's no much time for my eyes to wonder if she's holding something, or even if she has a happy expression on her, her quick feet walk her towards me and unite our lips together in a deep kiss.
Welcoming her in, my hand grabs her cheek as well as her waist, pulling her closer while her arms wrap around my neck. Our lips get used to each other warmly, mixing and moving in one symphony like a pianist following the violins in a huge orchestra.
Her closeness feels like home, like that cold juice mom used to prepare for me every morning or every hug I used to share with my dad every day before school. Her touch is the softness of my childhood bedsheets, where my sisters used to jump in just to piss me off.
Pulling herself away from me, our breaths start to become one as we can't help but smile each other.
"You are stupid, Lucifer." Lilith says, breathily. "But I am too, you can't take all the credit." Slightly tilting her head to the side, Lilith's heavy breathing is stopped for a second by a deep breath she takes. "My heart is racing." She places her hand on her chest to feel the rough movement inside of her.
Without questioning in, I take her other hand and place it on my own chest. "Mine too."
"I have to be crazy." Lilith chuckles. "My past self would probably slap me across the face for thinking of this. But I want to slap it back, tell her to fuck off and scream my words."
"What do you want to say, Lilith?"
She doesn't reply, instead, looking to her chest, it leads for my attention down towards it too. She slowly opens her hand that was against it allowing for my eyes to catch the silver necklace on the palm of her hand shining as bright as the sun above us.
It's dad's.
No words come for me to say, just the smile that grows as I lock eyes with Lilith. Watching her actions closely and carefully, not wanting to miss any second, she grabs the lock with both hands and proceeds to place it around her neck while I, just watch like the scene is in slow motion of my favourite movie.
"What do you think I want to say, Lucifer?" Lilith ask with a smile slipping through her mouth. "Be my boyfriend. And I'll be your girlfriend."
Oh.
Oh...
I'm in love with Lilith Avery. And I'm finally her boyfriend.
I let that sink in for a moment.
It all feels like an undying dream that I have to grab Lilith's cheeks to remind myself: this is real and it's happening like the moment I knew I love her and I want to spend the rest of my life with her.
"All the love that you miss here," my hand touches her beating chest "I'll take piece by piece from mine, and fill it for the rest of my life, Lilith Avery. I love you so much."
Smiling and tears fly down her cheeks, as well as mine, Lilith stares at me with with nothing love in her eyes. No worries, no questions, not even hate, just... truly, us.
"I love you too, you asshole." I hear her say before our lips are joined again by her, and the sound of her family and friends appearing from behind her join us in what sounds like a fucking party.
LILITH
The music is set as it plays for the guests arriving. The souvenirs are perfectly and carefully put together, the lights on the trees are bright as the moon. The carousel, even with its rusty and rough edges, somehow, Johnny managed to turn into a beautiful place for mom and Jackson to get married in front of. The grass is cut while the fountain is giving the plaza an even more magical taste than it already is.
Everything seems to be going alright as I stand with my light pink dress on, my shoulder resting on the edge of the door from the church. Mom's behind me having her make up re-touch by Lizzy, guests hang on the plaza with drinks and beers on their hands. Johnny makes sure the food is getting eaten by everyone, and Teddy seems to have found himself in a fun conversation with Philip Avery and Lucifer— oh, fuck, I have a boyfriend.
I, Lilith Avery, have a boyfriend.
What.
The.
Actual.
Fuck?
One would think that at this point, an hour after the grand moment, the change would be normal by me. Or at least don't come at me in surprise and erase any possible thought I may have. But no, for the past hour as I've been making sure every little thing is going alright the thought of me having a boyfriend slaps me across the face.
It isn't a bad thing, which obviously surprises me that my anxiety isn't freaking out, I find myself smiling at the thought of it (wanting me to slap myself even harder for being such a cliché). Even looking at the man that is my boyfriend (is still weird to say, though), with his black suit and silver rings shining on his fingers. His curly hair that he has managed to tame for this special occasion. But what gets my attention the longest is the way his eyes shift down to Teddy and bright sparkles overshadow the lights above him. Lost in him, it's like I'm watching my favourite scene with a bowl of cereal between my hands. The way he moves, the way he slightly nods as he's listening to Philip and the smile that shows when the excited Teddy starts to talk. The palm of his hand against his lower chest, calm movements and "masculine" features. But above all of that, what grabs me more, is the fact that he's carefully listening to Teddy. How he processes every words as if he's hearing the most interesting conversation a fourteen year old can give. I don't know why it grabs me this way, it just does. And if I could find a way to explain it, I would.
"Don't make me look like a clown, Lizzy." I hear mom say behind me, stealing a little smile from my mouth.
"But clowns are cute! I used to love them when I was a little kid."
"Well, I used to cry every time once showed up to my parties so... I'm already gonna cry today, I don't want to make it a double cry."
The fact that my own mother is behind me with her wedding dress makes my heart flutter, like a little kid seeing their hero for the first time.
Mom has insisted that she is well hidden from the rest of the party. Not even the people that walk by can see her, and I'm the body guard that is making sure of that. That's why I'm standing by the door. Not much my tiny noodle arms can do if anyone tries, but, a couple of creepy crime facts and people usually just walk away.
My phone vibrating on my hand leads my eyes down to my shining screen.
Lucifer.
His name steals a heavy beat from my heart, like an automatic button he has managed to built inside of me that he gets to press any time he desires.
When my eyes automatically look up to find him with Teddy, he isn't where I last saw him, not even near, it's just Philip and Teddy talking now.
"Are you gonna get fired as a bodyguard if you leave the door?" I read his message and move my thumbs to reply.
"If I go who's gonna fight anyone who dares to come inside?"
"You're right, you being there is intimidation enough for everyone to not even think about it."
"You got it, Donovan."
"Then..."
His message stops there, making me intrigued by his next possible words.
"Then, What?"
"Sorry."
"For what?"
"My mind went blank because I just saw you. Up close."
As my heart jumps a beat, my head flies upwards to land my eyes in front of me. Those green eyes that have me on lock for all these months stare at mine, shining under the bright lights of the moonlight and stars, that for a second, I do think to myself that they have the chance of outshining everything around them.
Lucifer doesn't say a word once we lock eyes, instead, telling me everything he wants me to know, the palm of his hand rests against his chest right where his heart is.
"You're not gonna die on me, right?" I jokingly ask.
Slowly shaking his head, Lucifer's hand doesn't leave his chest. "I might. And you're the reason my heart will stop working."
Heading his way towards me, Lucifer places both of his arms around my waist to bring me closer. The smell of his strong cologne reaches my nose, allowing me to take a deep breath in for it to remain in my sensory memories for as long as I can.
"You look..." he starts, but suddenly stops.
Wrapping my own arms around his neck, I'm the one who bring our faces closer. "I look... what?"
"There's no words to describe you, Lilith."
Without giving me a chance to respond, he gives me a quick kiss.
"Is this your way to bribe the security so you can walk in?"
Lucifer chuckles. "I'm not an idiot. I know that I should be bribing you with cereal not a kiss."
A smile grows on my lips like I've just been showered with fairy dust. But it's now magic, or a tale, it's real, and Lucifer Donovan can make me smile like a little happy kid with only being himself.
"You know that in the country of Samoa, it is a crime to forget your wife's birthday." I hear myself say— what did I just let out?
Lucifer seems confused for a moment, but then his tensed expression transforms into a smile. "What?"
"I don't know." I slightly tilt my head backwards, confused on the little crime fact that just jumped out of my mouth. "I felt good and then a crime fact just... slipped out."
Lucifer chuckles as he shakes his head, surprising me that he didn't find it weird. "You amaze me, Lilith Avery."
"The wedding starts in ten minutes!" Lizzy's words coming from the inside are followed by mom's loud gasp.
"Ten?! Why are you telling me this?! Do you want to me to die?!"
Looking back at Lucifer, I simply smile at him. "Everything's going alright, I think."
"Lilith?!" Mom's yell almost covers Lucifer's chuckle. "Are you still there?"
"Yes, mom!" I hug Lucifer tightly.
"Guarding the church, I suppose?"
"I thought that was Jesus' job." Not wanting to earn any suspicion on mom of having Lucifer in front of me, I sarcastically say. But I can't help it either, hugging him with my arms around his waist, my head rests on his chest. "Yes, mom, no one in, no one out. My head is focused on that." On Lucifer's chest as well.
No words follow mine, so, happy with my success I let myself sink into Lucifer's cologne. It's strong yet sweet, it leads for my nose to breath in a hundred of times even if it gets to much.
Lucifer leaves a kiss on the top of my head before caressing my back, allowing me to feel the comfort of his body against mine like my own bed and the most beautiful and calming dream is happening inside my asleep mind.
"Hi, Lucifer." But all dreams must end. Mom says from the inside of the church.
"Hi, Celia," I stare at Lucifer's eyes, confused on how the hell did mom caught us "the place looks wonderful."
"Don't distract my daughter to much."
Nodding, Lucifer winks at me. "Got it." Lowering his mouth closer to my ear, his breathing brushes against my skin. "I don't promise anything."
My lips beg for me to kiss him. And I listen. There's no many times that I do, but now, my ears are as open as my arms bringing Lucifer closer to my body.
His taste actives on my muscle memory, ready to make it a reality against me, when a couple of steps approach us from behind me.
Turning around, I find Joyce with a tiny smile on the corner of her mouth. It's strange because the tension that usually happens and grows every time we're around each other isn't here, or at least, I don't feel it like I used to.
"I'll go," Lucifer says before anyone "Teddy is probably looking for another souvenir to steal."
I look at him before he can step back. "See you after?"
He nods, letting go of me. "Good luck, my girlfriend." Hearing those words come out of him is like music to my ears. Lucifer moves away and slowly turns around, looking like even him can't believe that those words were said by him. "Am I dreaming?" I hear him say as he walks away, smile on his lips. "I must be dreaming."
Catching myself chuckling at how cute he can be (don't tell him I said that), my own brain decided to snap me back to reality when Joyce takes a step closer to the door behind me. Remembering my own job as a body guard, my shoulder rests back on the frame of the door, enabling Joyce from slipping through me.
"I heard about your little visit to Lucifer's apartment." I hear myself say, wanting to bring the subject of something that's been on the back of my head since Lucifer told me about it.
Joyce seems a bit frustrated that her secret isn't a secret anymore. "I told that boy to keep it a secret."
"Don't get mad at him, I know the reason he told me." Expecting Joyce to respond in a mean or passive aggressive way, I close my mouth. But nothing comes. Joyce waits for me to continue, like she's giving me a chance to talk and explain.
Strange.
Really, really strange.
"He knew that me knowing wasn't gonna make me mad, it was gonna make me feel weird, and it did, but it also made me realise something. People are capable of changing." Joyce's eyes let go of the firmness in them, and lets the shine bright through like when she saw mom with her wedding makeup on. "It's not gonna be easy to earn my trust, but... I'm more open now. Mainly for mom and Teddy." I quick add my last sentence. Not ready to fully give in. Yet, I find myself chuckling at this crazy moment. "If a couple of weeks ago someone told me Joyce Avery was gonna be the one that makes Lucifer and I finally be together, I would've called them crazy. Insane. Delusional."
For the first time, I think, ever, I hear Joyce laugh at one of my comments.
"I just want you to be happy, Lilith."
I nod, sure of it. "I am."
"I love you, Lilith. And thank you for giving me a change."
I don't know what this is. I've never had this feeling with Joyce before. It's like a cloud that was troubling my relationship with her and a heavy bag that appeared every time her and I would have a conversation slowly drifted off, leaving me with a complete new perspective and new blue sky. A new beginning.
And I can simply tell, I kind like it.
"Five minutes!" Lizzy yells once again.
"FUCK!" And that has to be mom, ladies and gentlemen.
"I'll better go check on mom." I say, gaining a nod from Joyce.
"And I'll make sure everything is ready with Jackson."
Call me crazy, insane, everything you want that equals insanity, but... why do I feel like calling Joyce grandma now?
Yes, this is insane! I'm going insane!
LUCIFER
As I stand in my place, on the front right row, my eyes stare at a struggling Teddy rubbing his stomach. "Maybe having so much candy wasn't a great idea." He suddenly turns to me, warning look on his face. "Don't tell that to Lilith or she is gonna kill me."
"Your sister isn't gonna kill you—" his stare chances completely, the question "really?" screaming all over his eyes "alright, maybe not yet. Just pretend you're fine."
"Wouldn't be the first time I have to pretend my stomach isn't hurting from all the candy I ate. I know, it's a problem! Do you think there's a helping group for this?"
"No," I shake my head "but do you want me to take you to the dentist and give you a good scare?"
Teddy's slowly leans backwards as if my words scared him like he actually was at the dentist. But for another reason. "You and Lilith are truly meant to be together. It's scary."
"Hello!" A familiar woman's voice speaks behind me.
"Ada!" I follow Teddy walk pass me and head his way towards Ada, who I find with a simple dark green dress and a happy Ryker by her side, suit going perfectly with hers.
"Hi, Teddy!" With Teddy's arms wrapped around her waist, Ada seems as excited as the little boy for being here. She hugs back like they haven't seen each other in ages, and they probably haven't. Teddy clearly wants to bring all those years back by not even taking a step away to let Ada free of his hug. "Someone missed me!"
"Are you kidding me?!" Teddy screams against her stomach. "You're the reason I love romantic movies so much!"
Ryker, who doesn't seem to be affected by any of this, chuckles. "Yeah. Since we've been together I watched more romantic movies than I've done in my entire life."
Teddy notices for the first time the presence of Ada's boyfriend, and stares at him like the suspect of a crime scene. "So, you're Ryker."
"Nice to meet you." As usual, Ryker smiles as innocent as he is.
The little Avery boy definitely has learned from his older sister, he has the stare of a hundred burning fires, seeming like they're finding out everything there is to know about you just by looking in a matter of seconds.
I wait for Teddy to shake his head and tell Ryker to walk it off, but instead, he waves his hands uninterested. "Yeah, you're fine. But watch it!" Pointing at Ryker, Teddy goes back to his prior place like nothing had happened.
While Ryker, as confused as he can, gives Ada a worried look. "Does that mean I'm in?"
Oh, boy, at least I'm not the new boy in Forwell anymore.
"Guys!" Jackson appears like magic by my side. With lifted arms as he tries to make his arm pits cold again, he waves them like he's trying to fly away from the plaza. His eyes scream concern. "Am I sweating too much? I am, aren't I?" He replies to himself before any of us can. "Does any body have deodorant? No?! I'm gonna be smelly for my wedding, great! You did it this time, Jackson!"
It's like we're not even here.
Trying to make my presence known for the freaked about to be married Jackson, I let my hand touch his shoulder. "Hey, hey, you don't smell. You're fine."
"You actually smell like a sweet popsicle." Teddy assures Jackson with a tiny smile. But that doesn't seem to be enough for him, Jackson goes back to me.
"That's a good thing, isn't?"
Ada touches Jackson's other shoulder. "We're talking about a little kid who loves candy, Jackson, he spent an entire movie eating it, without breaks. You're more than great."
Jackson takes a deep breath out relaxing the tension around his body since it seems that Ada and her sweet voice (and apparently Teddy's love for candy) has managed to calm him. The music around us starting to play with a classical piano mix steals another long breath out of Jackson, as he stares at me with opened eyes like two big white plates.
"Show time!" Teddy yells excitedly, running away from the group and standing next to Johnny (he apparently has the license to marry people and it's gonna do the ceremony, I just find out) right on the edge of the carousel.
"Oh, I'm so excited!" Ada continues with the excitement of the crowd behind us, but it seems that the groom has a whole nervous war inside of him.
"Don't worry." I say, gaining his freaked attention. "I'm sure the moment you see Celia you'll feel all the nerves go away just like magic."
This time, my words seem to affect him just like Ada did a moment ago. The smile appearing on his lips it's the expression a groom normally has on his wedding day, or at least, what I've seen in movie since this is the first time I'm attending a wedding. Hopefully not the last one.
"Thank you, Lucifer." Jackson replies to my words, sweetly, before leaving me behind and heading to his position, in between a smiling Teddy and Johnny.
Someone slightly touching my shoulder with theirs leads for my attention next to me, Ada. "Know from experience with Celia's own daughter?" She asks, cheeky smile on her lips.
I can't help but smile as well, slowly nodding. "Maybe."
The confused expression in her face tells me Lilith hasn't told Ada about us yet. Seems about right since it happened almost two hours ago and Lilith's mind is occupied with the wedding, still, it doesn't take much from my words or even Lilith for Ada to understand it. The loud gasp she lets out while her eyes stare at me with surprise, it's the hint I need to know that she, somehow, managed to come up with the news herself.
And it gains me a slap on the arm.
"Shut up!" Her loud whisper almost goes unnoticed by the louder music playing now, as everyone turns to runway in the middle of the crowd.
"Shhhh." I force Ada to turn like everyone else, eating the smile inside of me. "The wedding it's starting."
"Oh my fucking God, amen." She does a single clap with her hands with an enormous smile on her lips. "This is amazing!"
"What is?" Ryker innocently asks.
"The wedding! Shhhhh!"
As the lights deem down, Ada goes back to me. Shining eyes that sweetly stare at mine. "I'm so happy for you two." She gently squeezes my arm.
The smile in me finally breaks free, and I do it like a happy kid. "Thank you."
The piano becoming louder steals both of our attentions. The moment my eyes land on the group of little kids from the town dropping flowers all over the floor, something feels like it pinches my heart. Nothing but a wave of coldness surrounds it, a snowy winter that overcomes my heart in a quick beat. My eyes can't look away, my breathing slows down as well my brain, who can't even think something straight. And all because she walks in.
Lilith, with her light pink dress, silver high heels and makeup that makes her skin shine under the lights of the plaza, her smile outshines everything else. It brings light into the room like a star, and her eyes are the perfect combination of the shadows from the night sky behind them. She looks absolutely stunning, that not even the red roses she's holding take over the attention from the crowd. Mine is on Lilith, locked as my eyes get lost in every detail there is to watch of her.
Her slow walk down the aisle makes my heart pound faster, each beat deeper than the one before. It all feels like a dream, becoming better the more my brain falls asleep in the comfort of my surroundings. It's her. She's my dream. Her smile is the light my life needed. And her eyes, is the home my cold heart has been searching for.
When she reaches the edge of her walk, her eyes give me a quick look to give me a wink as she finally stands next to Johnny, opposite to Teddy and Jackson.
The lights go down, except on the start of the runway. The piano reaches the top of the song where it fills your heart with satisfaction. The crowd has all of the attention for the moment. Jackson can't stop smiling. And Teddy has to prevent himself from jumping up and down. All for Celia to make her appearance. And she does, the most beautiful she has ever been.
With her wedding dress, and a bouquet of red roses between her hands, a smiling Celia starts to make her way towards the front of the plaza. Walking between the crowd, the closer she gets, the better view I get of the dress. It fits her perfectly, with a simple white strapless top and a tail that grabs her waist tightly, until it reaches her knees for the dress to fall on the floor, magically like a princess walking down the stairs for the prince.
She looks absolutely beautiful. But what makes her even more, is the happiness shining all over her eyes.
Wanting to see Jackson's reaction, I'm not surprised to see a tear dropping down his cheek. He doesn't look nervous anymore, instead, he admires his soon to be wife like a painting in a museum. When it causes me to smile, that's when Lilith steals my attention yet again.
Finding her eyes on her mom with a sweet smile on her lips, I fall in love with her all over again. Didn't think that she could look even more stunning than the way she did when she walked in the plaza, but she does, her happiness and proudness as she stares at her mom brings a different type of light to her face that I have to place the palm of my hand on my chest, feeling like my heart is gonna jump out of my body for her.
Celia grabs Jackson's hand as she reaches the end of the runway, both now in front of Johnny ready to start the wedding.
"Welcome, people, to the union of this two wonderful and amazing man and woman I have here before me. Let me just say first, you two look absolutely beautiful and it's no wonder love happened between the two of you."
"I can't forget to mention how the crowd looks wonderful too! Specially Lilith Avery and Teddy Avery here, product of this gorgeous woman right here." Celia's shoulder receives a proud pat from Lilith.
"Well done, mom." She says, cheeky smile on her lips.
One ear of mine can tell that Lilith gains a couple of laughs from the crowd behind us before Johnny starts speaking again, but the other slowly drifts apart from it all since my eyes can't help but stare at her. She makes everything around me disappear, like it's just her and nothing else in this world by just standing there looking pretty. She doesn't even have to try, with just one smile and those dark eyes of her, my mind goes lost with her movements and actions. She gains all of my attention, stare wondering around her like she's the magical world my little self would watch in movies with my sisters. And even if she's not moving, my eyes still find something to stare at. Listening to Johnny's words, giving Teddy a quick look and sticking her tongue out, just each breath she takes in trying to contain all of her happiness inside. Lilith being her, it's more than enough and a hundred things more. She's mesmerising, like art at a museum or even the hot coffee that I drink every morning and holds my attention of my tired eyes. I can't help it, she holds me tightly on the palm of her hand and has my heart in love, beating faster each seconds that passes.
"These rings represent the unity of Celia and Jackson." Johnny's words being followed by Lilith suddenly moving and taking two rings from her pocket, brings me back to reality in a quick snap. Like something just slapped me across the face.
Celia opens her mouth surprised as she stares back at her daughter. "It has pockets?!"
Seems like Lilith shares her mother's excitement, and nods smiling like a little kid. Somehow, she got even more beautiful. "Yeah!"
"Putting it on," Johnny continues as my eyes can't part from Lilith "they commit to one another under the light from the sun, the shadow of the clouds and the darkness of each night."
Going back to the future husband and wife, my eyes land on the new shining gold rings on their fingers. But their smiles shine a hundred times more than the rings.
"Celia, are you ready to be the wife of Jackson? Help him when he most needs it, be there in good and bad? And most importantly, love him?"
"I do."
"Jackson—"
"I do." Jackson says immediately, gaining a couple of laughs from the crowd. "Sorry." His embarrassed apology follows it by a chuckle from Johnny. One can't blame him, his excitement probably took advantage of his own mouth.
"Are you ready to be the husband of Celia? Love her unconditionally? Be there in sickness? Support her craziness?"
Johnny gets playfully slap on the arm by Celia. "Hey!"
"I do."
"Then I pronounce you, husband and wife. You may kiss each other, c'mon on! Kiss kiss kiss kiss!"
As Celia and Jackson, now husband and wife, turn to each other their eyes sparkle with love for the other. Jackson takes a step closer but Celia is the one that lets her excitement take control over her actions, bringing herself into Jackson and unite their lips together. The crowd behind us starts chanting for them, throwing flowers and clapping for the new married couple.
Seems like the Avery family can't help but show their excitement too, Teddy starts jumping up and down around Celia and Jackson. But my attention just wants to see her, look at her reaction and stare at the woman that has managed to turn my world up upside down in the best possible way I could think of.
Lilith's eyes focus on mine the moment I do the same with hers. She's not clapping or screaming for her mother and Jackson, the tiny smile on her eyes and the sure stare in her intrigue me. It's like her mind has a thought that is occupying her entire attention. I can't put my finger on what it could be, and even if I tried to be here and be the smart detective she is, her expression doesn't help me much.
Celia and Jackson start walking down the runway as the crowd doesn't stop throwing flowers at them. Teddy soon follows them, and for my surprise, Lilith doesn't. Instead, she decidedly walks towards me.
LILITH
"Do you want to come to Italy with me?!" I let out as loudly as I can for Lucifer to hear me over the crowd. My words fly out of me, being the idea that made my heart jump in excitement since it came to me a couple of minutes ago.
"What?!" Lucifer seems confused, but not because he heard me, but because coming from my mouth must be a strange thing to be happening. To be honest, it wasn't like that for me.
I'm sure of it.
"If Ada says yes, and you do, we can exchange the tickets for cheap ones! Ryker can come too! The four of us can make the trip!"
"Lilith—"
I can't blame Lucifer for being hesitant about it. I've proven to him that my feelings are a messy thing that can change any second from their own, but I'm done with it, and my love for him is more than enough to change.
"I want to go with you," I grab his cheeks for his attention to be on my true words "I want to be with you, Lucifer! I'm tired of feeling worried or even scared. Strange as it is, I don't feel it anymore. Seeing my mom get married just proved to me that even if love can hurt sometimes, it's a wonderful and exciting thing to have." I take a deep breath in, sure of my next words as I've ever felt them. "I love you, Lucifer!"
His smile is bigger than my own. His eyes shine with love just like mine do, and as Lucifer grabs my waist to pull me closer, it's like our care for the other transforms into one.
Like it was always meant to be.
"I love you, Lilith!"
"So, what do you say?!"
He kisses my lips in a quick motion, warming our bodies and calming our surroundings away from the crowd. Lucifer's body and lips move surely every second, telling me the answer I wanted to hear.
A "yes", clear as my love for him that I carry inside of me.
