CHAPTER FIFTY FIVE (end).

LILITH
Graduation is one of those moments where you're standing in front of the mirror contemplating what's next in your life. Even if you've always known what you wanted to do, the uncertainty of the next steps stares at you like a blank whole. Shadows, slipping through the cracks of your mind in a form of a million of questions, like, what could be the next move? What is life gonna bring me now? Is the real world gonna slap me across the face? Probably. But, ready is the feeling inside my chest? Or, am I just lying to myself pretending to be prepared when in reality I'm scared as hell?
Ada and I have dreamed of this since the moment we both shared our first conversation, her being an innocent eighteen year old girl that used to pass every exam with the note of a perfect student. Me, outrageous eighteen year old girl that had two things in mind, become a profiler and end up drunk every weekend night. Our paths were different, but life threw us together knowing that the chaos we would become together it'll meant nothing but good balance to the both of us. Since the moment she yelled "yo! I like your bra!" at that party our freshman year of college, where I (very drunkenly) took my shirt off after winning a beer pong game. After that, it all become "I'd die for this girl" and a hundred things more.
So, as we both stand with our graduation gowns on and our silly hats outside the main hall surrounded by nervous and excited college kids like we are (only for a couple of minutes more), ready to welcome the next step in our lives, I can't help but think to myself how I wouldn't rather be doing this with anyone else in the world.
"I may throw up." Ada complaints as her hand rests on her stomach. "You better get a cute picture of me while doing it. I want a memory of every single thing."
Nodding, I pat the left side of my thigh. "Already have my phone ready."
Staring at me, the nostalgia running through Ada's eyes shine as she quickly grabs my body into a tight hug. "I love you, bitch."
I welcome her immediately, smelling her sweet perfume entering my nose. "I love you, slut."
"Whore."
"You too."
Even if our relationship isn't over, we still have Italy to go through, finishing this chapter of our lives is like finishing the first book. Excited about the next one but sad over the fact that there's never gonna be a fresh beginning. We did it. And there's no way of going back.
"Don't make me cry," I hear Ada say, hugging me tightly "you asshole, my mascara isn't water proof."
I can sense my throat closing, preventing me to stay strong and fight my watery eyes. "That's on you, stupid, not me!"
As if she's hoping I don't breathe anymore, Ada's arms hug me stronger that we were before. "We did it." She says, sweet tone in her.
"Hell yeah, we did."
"Next adventure, Italy. Right? Even if Ryker can't come because of his new work at the gym that doesn't mean Lucifer can't either." I can tell in her voice that she's disappointed. "If you want him there, then we'll bring him. I don't mind third wheeling! And you know I'd love some pancakes in the morning. Your family is the reason we're going on this trip anyway, whatever you decide it's fine by me."
Ada means it, I know her enough to sense it. But I also know her enough to predict what's about to come out of her mouth once she takes a deep breath in.
"And... if you want to bring him instead of me it's alright—" I quickly slap her back. "Ouch!"
"Stupid."
"It's just an idea!"
"And I'm slapping it away from your head. You're going with me, end of discussion."
"Yes, mother."
"Oh, that hurt."
Brusquely breaking our hug to grab both of my shoulders, Ada's worried eyes is all I can see. She holds me tightly, wanting me to hear every word her troubled mind is thinking. "Promise me that after our trip we won't stop seeing each other. We'll talk every day, no matter how busy our days are."
As much as I didn't want to think about it, it's a reality that people go through. Sometimes adults get jobs, they move away, they meet new people, and it may lead to losing contact with friends you've known for a long time. It just happens.
But not to us.
Ada and I are ride or die.
"I'll annoy you twice a day." I give her a reassuring smile.
Hugging me again, this time I do feel like she's trying to stop me from breathing. But I don't argue, I love her with all my heart and if I have to go on her arms, so be it.
"You guys are adorable." Colin's voice speaks next to us. Breaking our hug, Ada and I turn to where it came from finding the entire group with happy smiles on their faces.
At first, it's like automatic click my eyes search for, but I don't find it. Lucifer isn't here with them.
"Our soon to be graduated girls!" Ivy lifts her camera in front of her face and Ada and I immediately smile for the picture.
"I'm so proud!" Griffin starts to swipe tears down his cheeks while his other hand holds Paul.
Bobby, strangely, has a big coat that I've never seen on him before.
"Tissue?" Colin asks making me notice the box of tissues his hands are holding, coming here ready like he's about to watch the saddest movie in the cinema.
A new boy approaches us. Ryker and his proud smile walks towards Ada and unites their bodies into a tight hug. I can't help but smile to myself knowing that Ada's the one that's about to suffocate because of it now.
"We need to party after." Colin claps excited. "I seriously need to get wasted one last time before entering adulthood."
"Oh, honey," Bobby closes his coat tightly "talk about you. I'm gonna be the house wife who drinks wine every night before going to bed. A dream come true."
"Where's Lucifer?" Griffin's sudden question gains the attention from everyone. It's a surprise for me that they all look around to find him, just like I did a couple of minutes ago.
"I thought he was coming with with you guys." I say, intrigued. "He said that he was going to the apartment and then here."
Colin nods. "He showed up but then left almost immediately."
"Said he needed to do something before the ceremony. I thought he'd be here by now." Griffin's words grow my intrigue a hundred percent more. What could possible be taking Lucifer so long is the question I'm asking myself, and there's this worry of something bad happening rushing to my head like a slap, I mean, he worked as hard as anyone else in this plaza to graduate. He wouldn't miss it.
"I'm gonna say hi to my family." Ada says behind me, a happy Ryker holding her hand.
Brushing my worries away, I turn back and locate Ada's parents a couple of steps behind us. "Send them a kiss and that I'll see them after."
"Will do!" Ada's yell as she walks away is soon followed by a loud gasp I just know it came from Paul.
"Bobby! Did you sneak a bottle of vodka?!"
Leading my attention towards it, seeing the coat he was wearing now opened and the transparent bottle his hands are holding, it doesn't take me a single second to understand why he was wearing a big coat. It makes sense now.
"Say it a little bit louder, Paul," Bobby complaints "people in Alaska didn't hear you." An old lady that has seem to hear what they were saying as she stands behind both of them, has a confused stare in her eyes while it slowly transforms into disappointment. Bobby turns to her, innocent smile in his face, big coat opened and a bottle of vodka in his hand. "Sorry, ma'am. You look beautiful, by the way!" The old lady walks away, like she just seen two people commit the most horrible crime. Vodka. "Alright I'm gonna sit down before I get more judgmental looks from grandmas."
Paul drags Griffin with him. "I'm going with you to prevent you from drinking to much and yelling "I'm so proud of you honey!" to every student that walks up the stage."
"You all better go too," I turn to Colin and Ivy "otherwise you'll have to fight an old lady to get good seats."
Colin quickly heads his way to me and leaves a kiss on my forehead. "Good luck, big girl!"
Ivy follows the group, lifting her camera up the air and a big proud mom smile on her lips. "I'll have my camera ready!"
Having all my friends disappear from my eyes into the crowd of people around me, I take a deep breath in realising this moment. I'm about to graduate. I worked hard for this moment since the beginning of class. I knew what I wanted and didn't let anyone stand in front of that. So, for that, I high five myself and pat my shoulder proudly. Even if my actions gain a couple of eyes, I don't care, this is my graduation and if I want to wave my arms around in the air and yell "fuck yeah!" I will. No judgmental grandmas will stop me.
Unintentionally, my eyes wonder around the crowd once again. Without even thinking about it I know who I'm looking for, and with that it doesn't take long to come back the intrigue on where could Lucifer be. Or what's he doing. No text messages, no calls, just "I'll drop by my apartment and come back" with a sweet smile on his lips and a gentle kiss. It didn't take me much to fall under his charming self, losing all control of my head, did it? Lucifer and his god damn smile, have me wrapped on his finger like a headphone cord.
No sign of his family either. Not his mother, aunt or sisters. Maybe he just went to look for them and they're all coming together, seems the good amount of sense.
"You look ridiculous." Teddy's voice speaks behind me.
"Is that what you say to yourself while you look in the mirror?" I let out as I turn around and face them. Teddy rolls his eyes when I leave him and look at mom, teary eyes and a proud smile on her face.
"My baby." Without letting me catch a breath (literally), she hugs me tightly like Ada before.
"Why is everyone trying to stop me from breathing?" I can't help but ask. "Do y'all want me to graduate?"
"It's just—" mom does it even tighter "I'm so proud of you!"
Finally letting me go, I find the air my lungs were asking for and the calmness of my mother's eyes on me. It doesn't matter how nervous or worried I could find myself being, her eyes bring the warm the little kid in me needs to make it all better.
"Where's Ada?" Teddy asks next to us, traveling with his eyes the entire crowd.
"I'll never happen, Teddy. Leave it alone."
"I just want to say hi— to my future wife." His last sentence was a whisper. But the amount of times he mumbles under his breath after a fight we have, has trained me to have a bigger ear than him.
The palm of my hand slaps him on the arm. "Ouch!" Trying to give the slap back, he turns to me ready for his revenge.
But I'm quicker. "There's Ada." My head points behind him.
Inevitably, Teddy forgets about his revenge and regains his look for Ada around the crowd. "Where?! Where?"
Teenagers and their hormones.
"Are you feeling alright?" Mom asks me, making me leave my attention from Teddy.
Simply shrugging my shoulders, it's like I don't really know what I'm truly feeling at this moment. So, I turn to the most expected answer. "Just a bit nervous. Graduating and then entering a new and confusing stage of my life? What could be bad about that?"
Mom grabs my shoulder, sweet smile in her. "Exciting, isn't it?"
I take a deep breath in. Yeah. Strange as it is, me finding this exciting yet nervous is the ultimate Lilith movement. Not knowing what could happen tomorrow is the wonder and beauty of life... I guess. No need to get philosophical here. That's Ada's job.
"And Lucifer?"
"I don't know. Probably coming."
I hope.
"It's starting!" Teddy's excited yell is soon followed by the crowd finding seats and the principal getting on the stage by the right front of the plaza.
My heart skips a beat at the reality of it all. I'm graduating. I'm never gonna see this place again. Or at least, my brain wishes for it to be like that.
"I'll find us some seats!" Mom follows Teddy as they both wave at me. "Good luck!" They disappear from my sight like they got eaten by the crowd.
Fuck.
And double fuck.
My eyes wonder around the plaza searching again. Now there's no sight of Ada or Lucifer. Not even my friends. Without thinking about it, my feet start walking away into the main building by the left corner of the plaza where the students can get their gown. My brain can't understand why I'm walking towards it, but it's too late to stop it, my feet are determined to open those doors and hopefully find someone known.
"Shit!" I hear a male voice as soon as my hands swing the door open.
"Sorry!" I make my way inside to find the man that I've punched with the doors when those beautiful dark blonde curls appear in front of me and the green eyes meet with mine.
"What a way to welcome me to graduation, love." Lucifer says brushing his forehead with his hand.
But my eyes have to blink twice once they locate on something new on the side of his neck.
A new tattoo.
But it's no ordinary tattoo.
It's a lighting going from across his left side of his neck to his chest, which is covered by his gown. Red, like my lips.
"Dude!" I brusquely rush my hands to his bare neck to gently brush my fingertips against his neck.
I hear Lucifer chuckle. "Did you just call me dude?" Without replying to him, my fingertips draw his tattoo like my eyes are begging me to see every detail in every inch of the new ink. The lightning starts under his ear, a few lines there and then until they fly down to the start of his shoulder, and it travels towards to his chest. "Avery, invite me to dinner first." His words make me realise where my fingertips reached, on the edge of his naked chest where his gown starts. "And I thought I was gonna be the one who couldn't keep his hands away from you in this relationship."
"When did you get it?" I ask, staring to his shining eyes.
"What?" His eyes stare down to his chest. "Oh, I didn't notice." Slapping him in the arm, his chuckle surrounds my ears like music. "Before getting here. I told you I was gonna get it, and I wanted to give you a surprise."
Lucifer doesn't give me time to stare at his new tattoo once again, instead, his hands take it upon themselves to wrap around my waist as he leads my back against the wall behind us. "You remind of lightning." He starts, with his hand leading my own to the back of his neck, later doing the same to the other one until I'm hugging him. I can't help but smile at this leading action from him. "Shining everywhere you go making your presence known, nobody can take their eyes off you when you walk in. Even with the tiniest things, every eye is on you."
Erasing every possible blush of the cheeks my heart may want to create on me, I add before it's to late: "It looks great."
"Just like you."
But with Lucifer, no control of mine can win over the fact his words affect me more than I want them to. "Stop." I roll my eyes, even if a smile jumps out of my lips.
"Or what?" Lucifer with his cocky smile and dark stare leave mine as he takes his lips to the left side of my neck. Without a care in the world, he leave a gently kiss on my skin like he desires to remember the taste of it.
"Lucifer." I take in the pleasure of it, but when a couple of classmates walk pass us having their own little conversation, my own brain takes me back to reality and the place we're in. "There's people here."
"Let them watch." He breaths against my skin, chilling me in the process. "A reminder to them that you're mine."
As if his words weren't enough for me to give him whatever he wants right here, he stares at me with those green eyes that pull a spell on me. Holding me tightly with every second, shining through his stare as if he had stars in them.
"Fuck." He mumbles. "You look so beautiful, Lilith."
"You don't look bad, Lucifer."
Smiling, Lucifer slowly brings his lips towards mine when the sound of a microphone from the stage pulls us apart.
"Graduates," a male voice speaks on it "please, make your way to the stage. The ceremony will start soon."
Taking a deep breath in, Lucifer and I go back to each other. He pulls his hand for me to hold, and I, don't hesitate on grabbing it to finally take this step together.
And there's no ounce of me feeling strange about it.
"Ready to be a full adult now?" I ask him.
"With you," Lucifer leaves on my cheek a sweet kiss "I'm ready for anything."
LUCIFER
Funny how moments can change in such a big and drastic way.
One minute, I'm receiving my diploma like an adult. Then, later, my cheeks are being squeezed by my own mother like a little kid.
"I can't believe my baby boy is a college graduate now!"
"Mom," Mylah tries to save my cheeks, and she does when the squeeze is turned to a hug "don't ruin Lucifer's reputation for being the mysterious and tough guy."
"But he's my baby boy!"
"He's a man now!" Aunt Emily shakes my arm. "Ready to kick the world in the ass!"
Mom finally frees me and Vienna is the one that replaces her in front of me. I can't tell if she's gonna say something cocky or make fun of me, her little cheeky smile can go both ways. "Your new tattoo is cool, man."
Compliment it is. Not where I expected it to go.
"The source it came from is pretty cool too." I say, making Vienna squint her eyes as she searches for an answer of her own.
"It has to be Lilith."
Mylah chuckles. "Of course. Colin isn't that cool."
"Hey!" Like he's an expert in the art of magic, Colin shows up behind me. Offended look in his face when I turn to him. But he walks to my side, he seems to agree with my sister by giving a simple shrug. "It is true though, I'm not good at coming up with tattoos. That's why I only rock with a heart on my ass— shit."
Seems like Colin didn't mean to tell one of his most deepest secrets, one that he made me swear I'd take to the grave when I saw it the morning I accidentally walked in on him about to take a shower.
"I'm so gonna need a picture of that." Lilith's voice sounds behind Vienna, who immediately turns around to welcome my girlfriend (yeah, I'll never get tired of saying that) into the conversation with an arm around her shoulder.
"Great!" Colin complains. "My coolest secret is out— oh, the food is also out! Be right back!" And just like that, he's gone.
And so is Vienna, following the food like a hungry dog.
"We're never gonna see them again."
"I'll leave for the..." Mylah looks at Lilith and then at me, smirk on her lips "bathroom? Yes! Bathroom! See ya!"
Lilith, as she watches my sister discreetly disappear from our view, shakes her head as she approaches me. "She could be a fantastic double agent."
Wrapping her arms around my waist, her eyes stare at me. And, to be honest, I can't seem to throw away my surprise at her action. She did a very "girlfriend" thing to do, and it's not common in her.
"What?" She asks, obviously, reading my expression.
I simply shake my head, grabbing her cheeks and placing a kiss on her forehead. "You're amazing."
"I know. Anything else?"
She jokes but a sparkle of worry shines in her eyes. Lilith would be proud of me for seeing it, but I can't take all the credit, the deep breath she takes in hints me of something bothering her mind. "What's wrong?" I ask, gaining a little smile on her lips.
"We need to talk."
"You seem worried."
"Nothing drastic, but—"
"There's our graduate boy!" Covaliov's words stop her. Before I can even react, Lilith removes herself from my waist and takes a step back to let coach wrap his arms around me in a tight and proud hug.
Colleen, coach's wife, shakes my shoulder as Hope, their daughter, jumps up and down behind me.
"Well done, dude!"
My eyes land on Colleen's sweet smile once James lets go of me. "We're so proud of you two!" Welcoming Lilith, they both hug the moment coach gives her a thumbs up and a big smile. Strange to think that this same man is the one that forced me into doing push ups because I was being an idiot and also shakes the walls as he yells.
"Is that ice cream?" I hear Hope ask behind me. Turning around, she's facing Mylah with an eyebrow raised. My sister, as she licks her chocolate ice cream that she got God know where, nods.
"Yep."
"Where?"
"Follow me, strange girl I've never seen before."
When my eyes follow them disappear into the crowd of people, a hand rests on my shoulder. "Hey." Coach says, carrying a kind stare. "Just wanted to tell you whatever you decide, the job will wait for you."
When Lilith asked me to go to Italy with her, the next day I had to call coach to tell him. It wasn't something sure, still, it was the right thing to do when there's a job that could be put on hold in the line. I couldn't stop smiling at the thought of it, but not because there could be an opportunity for me to go to Italy with Lilith. It's more the fact that she asked me, she wanted me to go with her, putting all her troubles, worries, struggles about her commitment to the side. She did it for me. And that's bigger than any trip I could ever take.
There's a side of me that wants to do what Lilith wants, if she wants me to go, then, catch me on that plane beside her the next time you see me. But, there's this other part, that holds me back. She's been dreaming of this trip with Ada for a long time, and me overstepping into that experience that the two of them should have together isn't something that I want to do.
So, there's not an answer in me formed yet. And Lilith doesn't know that. Because, would she get disappointed that I choose to stay? Would she be happy?
"Ryker will need you to deal with the kids and there's no one I'd rather have than you."
"Wait?" I hear my mom ask. She's been listening to coach since he started talking. "What do you mean wait? I thought you were gonna take the job."
Aunt Emily steps forward. "Are you going somewhere?"
Saving me from the probable interrogation coming from my mom and my aunt, catching Lilith's mom walking towards us stops my mouth from opening. And thankfully, my mom from asking any more questions. When Celia touches her shoulder, her full attention is on the strange woman in front of her.
"Mom..." I hear Lilith say, hiding her eyes against my shoulder.
"Hi, I'm Celia Avery, Lilith's mom." Ignoring Lilith's call, Celia introduces herself to my own family. Mom immediately smiles at the realisation of who's the woman in front of her and takes her hand to shake.
Suddenly, I feel like I'm in high school and my mom is meeting the principal, embarrassed of the whole situation. Seems like Lilith feels the same way since her eyes don't look up to our moms, she's hiding against my shoulder. Without controlling myself, I leave a kiss on the top of her head.
"Oh, so nice to meet you! I'm Emeral."
"My god what a beautiful name!"
Lilith stares at me, embarrassed chuckle escaping her mouth. She looks absolutely gorgeous.
"My mom loved to be dramatic."
"Oh, I can totally understand that."
Seeing as our mothers won't have a problem getting along, my hands fly quick to Lilith's waist wanting to pull her away from our families and have a moment alone. It seems that since it all started, we didn't get a chance to have a full minute with each other.
But she's quick as well pulling away from me, heading towards her little brother now next to April. "Hey, what's up?" I hear Teddy say, brusquely being stopped by Lilith who wraps her arms around his shoulders and pulls him back.
"No."
"I just wanted to say hi!"
"I know what your "hi" means." Lilith stares at April, who's finding herself smiling at the whole new situation that are Lilith and Teddy. "Run, for your own good."
April doesn't listen to her, instead, she points at the struggling Teddy against Lilith. "I like your bracelet. Spiderman colours?"
My girlfriend (it feels nice to throw it out there once in a while) knows that it's game over, she's not gonna prevent this friendship now that April has proved she likes superheroes like Teddy does. Maybe not as much, but it's enough for him. He immediately gasps and finally leaves Lilith's grip. "We're gonna be best friends."
They both move aside to have their own little conversation, while Lilith goes back to me and shakes her head. "Disaster."
When she tries to head her way back to where she was before, (hopefully around my arms), it's prevented by Vienna who appears like it was out of thin air in front of her.
With an ice cream cone between her hands, she smiles like a little kid on Christmas. "There's strawberry flavour!"
"I love strawberry!" Teddy yells back, soon followed by April.
"Me too!"
The three of them disappear into the crowd, letting me gain the sight of a smiling Lilith melting my heart like it is that ice cream under a bright sun.
"Teddy!" Celia's loud voice can be heard from my side. "Be careful! Make sure to ask what's in it!"
My need of having Lilith around my arms take control of my feet as if it were a robot, and they take a step forward already dying to smell her perfume fill my nostril and surround me in a cold yet beautiful way. When a couple of tiny hands slap me on the arm.
"Dude!" Hope walks in front of me, bottle of Coke in her hand. "Use those muscles for something and open this for me." Taking it and doing a simple twist of the cap, the bottle opens with a snake noise. "Thank you, now go back to being useless." Hope jokes (hopefully... get it?) and leaves my eyes to gift me again the sigh of Lilith. But her eyes aren't on me for my disappointment, Teddy is now in front of her. Once again, preventing us from getting to the other.
My arms are dying here, and soon my lips too when Lilith takes a simple taste of Teddy's new ice cream. The universe is torturing me.
"Isn't it awesome?!" Teddy asks his sister, big smile in his lips. "Here!" He waves the ice cream around her face once she loses control and makes eye contact with me, making my heart feel all sorts of fire works. "Have some more!"
"Maybe later—" she tries to walk where I'm standing, but Teddy makes it impossible. And now April makes it hard for me too.
"You're losing this, Lucifer, go have some!"
I don't lose eye of Lilith and she doesn't lose mine. With her glossy lips and shining eyes, the last thing I want to do right now is eat ice cream.
Unless that ice cream is called Lilith.
"April, you're dripping ice cream everywhere." I hear Vienna say beside me. Teddy disappears from Lilith's side and it gives me the opportunity to get lost in her, staring up and down to the woman that is now my girlfriend. She's beautiful, not a single word in the dictionary can properly describe her. She's out of this world, that even Aliens would lose their shit seeing her.
"Here, I'll show you a trick."
Once Vienna speaks again, Lilith gives a quick look to our families by our sides. I do it too to find the chaos that all of them might bring if we stay here. Aunt Emily, mom and Celia can't stop laughing at something they'll want us to hear later on. Mylah and Vienna are trying to show Teddy and April how to eat ice cream without getting it everywhere, while also having problems of their own with the melting food. It's like four conversations at once. For us, it seems that we're not gonna be able to be alone in this chaos that has transformed between us, and it looks like Lilith knows it too. When I go back to her, finding her eyes already on mine, she nods to the side right door of the room where it leads to the main patio. Almost everyone is here, so it's the perfect escape that we're both searching for.
"Do I need to pop my ass that much?" April asks Vienna.
"It's fun! You're gonna have clean clothes afterwards. Plus, it makes guys look."
"Look!" Teddy yells as I see Lilith take a step back and smile at me, growing my need for her even if it didn't felt possible. "If I start moving, maybe it'll look like I'm twerking!"
"That's the spirit, little dude!"
Once she's out of my sight, I do intend to follow her when a hand slaps me on the shoulder.
"You're so stupidly in love." I hear a Mylah say, cheeky tone in her voice.
Fuck.
I am. I am so fucking in love with Lilith Avery.
LILITH
When a pair of tough hands grab my waist from behind, my body doesn't need to take time to recognise who they belong to. Lucifer shifts me around to face him. His dark blonde curls shine under the sun above us, and somehow, the green in his eyes match the colourful trees around us.
I'm lucky there's a little cold wind blowing around us, otherwise, I'd melt under his touch and eyes on me.
Lucifer holds me tightly on his arms. "I don't know if I should be glad or scared that our families finally met."
"Probably both." I wrap mine around his neck, making him slightly tilt his head downwards. Just a few inches away from my lips. "Just so you know, Teddy will be a bad influence on April."
He chuckles, having that soft smirk in his mouth that could make any woman his. "It's alright. I know that all Teddy will try to convince her is eat candy until they can't anymore and barf all over the floor."
True. Or just watch the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe in one sitting.
I don't get to reply. A group of graduates open the door behind us and carry their own conversation as they walk pass. Lucifer, slightly moving me aside he turns his head towards them. Immediately (and almost as if he did it purposely), my eyes shift down to his tattoo.
It's so.... damn, I can't wait to see the rest of it. The veins in his body don't help me compose myself.
When Lucifer goes back to me, my eyes can't meet his. It's like his tattoo has a tight hold on me. "I can't stop looking at it." I admit, shaking my head as a smile escapes me.
"It's all for you, love," Lucifer's tone is breathy, chilling my skin in the process "stare at it all you want."
"It's hot as fuck."
Finally, I gain control again and shift back to his eyes. But he isn't looking at me, he swings his head back and stares at the sky, big needy smirk on his lips. "Lord, help me control the effects this woman has on me."
Forcing his head back towards me by grabbing his check and his shining eyes lock on mine, I contemplate for a second asking the same thing as Lucifer did to the sky above. "I really want to see the rest of it."
"Well," He brings our lips closer "maybe later on we can get rid of our families and friends. Go somewhere else, just you and me baby."
I tease him as well, almost touching his skin. Letting all the air coming out of my mouth be warm, touch him gently. "And do what?"
"I have a few ideas." I lift my chin up to brush his, waiting for him to continue. "Start by undressing me to see my new tattoo?"
I'm liking this so far.
Who am I kidding? I'm loving this.
"Keep talking..."
"Then, you let me undress you to let me see your beautiful naked body?"
"And give you that privilege? What do I get in return?"
Lucifer slowly shakes his head, grin growing on his lips. "This mouth doesn't just talk, Avery."
Making my heart jump at the thought of what those words meant, Lucifer crushes his lips into mine in a slow motion. His hands hold my face in place as he grabs my cheek, while I, can't help and play with my fingertips on his lower back. There's no hint of us of caring that people are walking all around us, but when the kiss deepens and heat rushes over to my body, it's like Lucifer notices it (or most likely feels the same way as I do) and without losing a second, when he loses my lips on his he takes my hand and walks us to the left side of the building.
No one is around, an almost dark corner that's surrounded by trees and bushes. If a make out bush didn't already existed, this would've been an amazing spot. But, better for Lucifer and I for our last few moments in these buildings.
When he gently leads me back and makes it hit the wall, his hands take control of mine as they grab them to place them above my head. Cheeky smirk is on his lips, liking that I'm letting him take control.
"Avery." He breaths out. "You look so god damn beautiful."
"I know." I jokingly say. "You're lucky I'm your girlfriend."
His smirk grows bigger, shining eyes with pleasure of my mouth saying that. "Say it again, for me baby."
Slightly lifting my chin up for my lips to tease his, my mind and body lose themselves on him. Like a magic spell has put me to sleep. "I'm your girlfriend, Donovan. Yours and only yours."
Slowly shaking his head, I can sense in his needy eyes how much my words affect him. Lucifer swings his head back like before, staring at the sky. "This is getting harder and harder each minute, how I am supposed to keep my hands to myself when Lilith Avery is my girlfriend?"
"Who's asking you to keep your hands to yourself?" I ask. Gaining his eyes on mine again, his dark and dead stare pierce me on the heart.
"Oh?"
"Kiss me, dumbass."
"Yes, ma'am."
Idiot.
And I'm in love with the idiot.
So, yeah, that makes me the idiot too.
And, to be honest, I don't mind.
Lucifer finally kisses me again stealing a breath from my mouth. His rough and deep lips into mine steal a tiny moan from the back of my throat, gaining nothing but a smile into the kiss from him. His hand don't leave mine, tightly gripping them but allowing me to feel freedom as well. I know that if I want to get out, he'd let go in a second.
But I don't want to get out. Not right now. Not tomorrow. At this point, not ever. Scary as it is, I feel safe on his arms. Safe as those moments mom used to hug me in front of the fire and tell me stories to calm my messy head.
Letting my lips a bit parted for him to slip his tongue andplay with mine, he understands, and swings it to my side just enough for each of our own to warm the other in a soft way. Our tips play along, slowly and desiring more. Our lips connect like every time even if it feels like the first time. Sparks flying wild on my stomach and the need for the other growing each second as if we haven't touched this way in months. Gently, his fingertips rush over to my wrists and then elbows, shoulders, neck. He grips me tightly while his left thumb wraps around it firmly. Squeezing it, another moan fights out from the back of my throat, liking he way it feels.
Lucifer breaks our kiss, heavy breathing mixing. "You're gonna make me hard with those moans of yours."
"Maybe that's what I'm trying to do."
"You—"
"Dude!" A strange voice talks a couple of steps away from us, probably by the door. "C'mon on! They're gonna take all the ice cream!" With giggles and laughs, we hear a group of people walking closer to us then the door opening, followed by the silence surrounding the trees like it was before.
That was the reality slap I needed. We're out in the open and our families are on the other side of this wall, not the graduation disaster I need if they catch us heavy breathing and lips swelling.
Seems like Lucifer knows this too, and stares back at me with a sweet smile like he didn't just tell me his dick was gonna get hard if I kept moaning. "Maybe we should get back."
For some reason, Italy comes back to me like a quick race car. I need to talk to him about it, and maybe this was the best spot for it. Besides making out, because if you're into the rush of getting caught this could work for you.
"It seems like you want to talk about something." He says, making me realize the way he's staring at my face and reading it like a book.
He's getting good. To much spending time with the crime expert.
Me— in case that wasn't clear.
"Perhaps this lost stare in you has something to do with the "we need to talk" from earlier?" He asks, and I nod as a response.
"It's about Italy." Lucifer tilts his head a bit to the side, pressing his lips together like he's holding something in, waiting for me to talk first. "You have something to say too." Lucifer gets caught off guard by my words, being the total truth he probably didn't expect me to see. "You're getting good at reading expressions but I'm still the fucking expert, man. What is it?"
A wave of guilt surrounds my stomach. Even if there's still no answer of him going to Italy, Ryker not going may put him back and it's gonna eventually lead him to stay behind. And I can't help but feel guilty about it, it was my idea.
"You first." I hear him say.
"No, you first." I respond, copying his childish behaviour.
And it's not a surprise Lucifer follows it without hesitation, jokingly squinting his eyes his points at me with his chin. "You're the one who said "we need to talk", so..."
He has a point.
"Fine. Ryker isn't coming." I let it out before it grows harder for me to say.
"I know."
Now I'm the one surprised at his words. "You know?"
"He's gonna work at the gym with coach. He told me, and I deduced he wasn't going to."
"Oh..." That's all I could find myself saying. Shutting my mouth, I let my eyes read his face. There's no hint in him to feel sad about it or even excited, there's no much he's telling me, other than not being affected by this fact. Maybe he's good at hiding, or he actually doesn't feel anything about it, I don't know, all I can tell is his stare becoming softer and his hands going towards my cheeks to hold them.
"This is your dream, Lilith, with Ada." The sweet smile he gives me has my knees going weak. "I love you so much, that I rather let you have this trip and experience of growing and learning with your best friend than with the annoying boyfriend."
"You are annoying, but—"
"I've decided." He stops me, decided eyes in him. "I'm staying. I'm gonna stay here and start working with coach, look for jobs that grab my eye and figure out life. Just like you're gonna do with yours. Isn't that what you always planned?" He shrugs his shoulders, giving little to no importance to it. "It's just with a little side thing, me. I'm annoying you now. And kissing the shit out of you."
Yeah. And me loving it.
"See?" His tone jokingly asks. "Commitment isn't that scary."
It's still terrifying. He's making it less that I even a smile when he starts to talk about the future.
"Are you disappointed?" I find myself asking, trying to see if anything in his expression changes that may give me a hint. But he's as sure as the moment he told me loved me.
With a hint of excitement in him.
"Are you kidding me? This is the happiest I've ever been. You telling me to go to Italy with you? As my girlfriend? And me your boyfriend? The simple action of considering makes my dick hard." I lift my eyebrow, accusingly, but I know there's a laugh that fights to come out.
"And my heart grow ten times bigger but my dick can't do that." Lucifer holds my cheeks tighter, bringing our faces closer. "I'm gonna be waiting for you with the biggest sign that says "the hottest girl in this airport is my girlfriend and she's coming back from Italy, everyone fuck off.""
The simple fact of him waiting for me at the gates after a long time of not seeing him makes my heart jump at the thought of it. "Original." I compliment his soon to be made sign.
All my skin can feel is his thumb caressing my cheek, his breathing mixing with mine and my heart pounding at his touch. The silence surrounding us and his eyes on mine calm my mind in a way that not even the warmest of fires can manage. His closeness makes me feel safe, as if nothing in this world could hurt me because I know that he's gonna be there for me if I need it.
In this moment I find myself thinking that I used to think love was something invisible, a feeling that hits you down when you don't expect it. But love isn't that. It's everywhere, in the trees you sit with your best friend, in the hug that you mom gives you every first day of school, in every silly fight you have with your siblings. And in those green eyes. Staring at mine like he's trying to hold on to every detail I have to offer. Carrying every feeling he has towards me into his touch and stare, making me feel sure of his love for me. He doesn't even have to try, his emotions are so strong that they transport into me in a heart beat. And I don't fear them, I welcome them with open arms as they hug mine, mixing and becoming one each second we both spend with each other. Lucifer is the perfect example of how strong love can be, and I'm up for the journey of learning that too.
"I love you, Lucifer." I say, letting my words carry out with all the emotion my chest begs me to let go.
Lucifer slowly smiles, eyes telling me he wasn't expecting me to say those words right then. His brings our faces closer, foreheads touching. "I love you so much, Lilith."
Right here. With him. Nothing's missing. Nothing worries me. Nothing troubles my head. And nothing stops me from telling him how much I love him. Him and only him, Lucifer Donovan, the man that didn't break every wall I've ever built to protect my heart, instead, the man that carefully found his way around them and made sure to re-build each one into bridges full of strength and memories. He protected every detail of me with his hands and words, and for that, my unsure and scary heart isn't that anymore. It's all little Lilith in me hoped to become.
Lucifer makes the closeness between us tinier, when a couple of quick steps brusquely stop beside us preventing our lips to touch. "Ops, sorry!" My head swings to where the male voice came from, finding nothing but Colin's messy hairs walking back to where our eyes can't see him. "Go back to making out like two horny teenagers! But so you know, they added more ice cream!" His steps now get further away, until the door is opened and soon closed, telling us we're alone once again.
"What is it with everyone and this ice cream?" I can help but ask with a chuckle, gaining a confident yet playful grin from Lucifer.
"Well, they make us go into debt for the rest of our lives so what can they do to make us feel better? Give us really good ice cream on our graduation day. Totally worth it, don't you think?"
"Hey," I bring Lucifer closer by grabbing his waist "if it keeps our families busy so we can make out it's fine by me."
Smiling, Lucifer moves closer to kiss me. "Lilith!" Now Teddy is the one that yells into the plaza. "C'mon! Mom's looking for you! She says there's dulce de leche for you!"
I have to let out a sigh once the sound of the door closing hits my ears. Suddenly, I feel like I'm a teenager at my house with a boy in my room, mom opening the fridge every five minutes to remind us she's still at home.
"How did Teddy know you were gonna be here?" Lucifer asks.
"Mom." I reply. "She probably knows we're making out. C'mon," I take his hand and start walking to the front side of the building "let's taste this ice cream everyone is talking about."
The coldness of the room and the various conversations everyone is having surrounds us just like moments before once we walk inside. Every little corner is filled with families and friends, congratulating the graduates with big smiles. Then there's our families, where Teddy and Vienna (somehow, yet, not surprising at all) ended up having a thumb war in the middle of the room while April and Mylah chant around them.
It's like an automatic tick my head does when I walk into this room, looking towards the cereal section. Not a single part of me expects to see the wonderful variety of colours cereal can bring to the table, but, my eyes still look for them. I can't help it, they call to me.
My heart breaks into a million pieces when my eyes land on the empty cereal containers. It's like my world has exploded and turned into a disappointed dark whole.
Yes. I am dramatic, and what about it?
"Here." I hear Lucifer say beside me. Turning towards him, my eyes can't believe what they're seeing at first. Hell, they can't believe it at all.
Lucifer's holding a cereal box.
"I knew you weren't gonna have the perfect graduation if you didn't have cereal, so, I brought this and made April carry it with in her big big purse. That thing can hold our entire college debt and still have free space—"
I stop him from talking further by crushing my lips into his. Soon breaking it, his free hand holds my waist tightly. "One more." He kisses me again, deeply. My mouth wants to say thank you before taking the cereal, but as soon as I break the kiss just like before, Lucifer begs for one more quick one. "I'm not done."
"The cereal!" I kiss him quickly, in between a laugh.
"Is the cereal more important than me—? Don't answer that."
"Thank you." My eyes land on the box. "This means... so much."
"It was nothing." He says, like him doing this didn't just made my heart fall for him even further. "You are missing something, though."
"Milk."
"Yeah." Feeling Lucifer step away from me, my attention shifts to him. He has a cheeky grin in his lips, making me believe he has something under his sleeve. And it kills me that I can't understand what it is. "I'll get it for you. I'll be right back, love."
"Alright..." I reply to him, not trusting him one bit.
Once he hands me the cereal box and leaves a quick kiss on my forehead, he turns around to make his way towards the coffee table, where the milk is. My eyes follow him very carefully, as if I'd have to react to anything he could do. My intrigue makes me bite my lower lip in frustration, knowing that he's about to do something but I don't know what. I follow him and I follow him, until he reaches the table. He turns to the opposite side where he can stare at me. Slowly, as if he wants me to see his every move, in detail, Lucifer grabs the last bottle of milk. His eyes shift down to it, staring up and down while his hand moves it slowly. The longer he takes, doing this, the more my mouth begs for me to take it for my cereal. It's like he's teasing me with it, knowing that I want it more than anything.
When his eyes meet mine again, I catch him taking a slow step back. He lifts the bottle up to his chest and turns it for me to see it perfectly. Grinning, Lucifer winks at me. And that mischievous action, leads me to understand what he's about to do.
Oh, he wouldn't dare.
But he would.
He's Lucifer fucking Donovan, the guy that I hate. Remember?
Another step he takes and one step that I take forward. He does the same and I follow, giving him the look of "if you do this, you're dead."
But he opens his mouth, wide and carefully saying the words "game on."
Lucifer turns around to the opposite door and disappears from my sight, with my milk in hand. He stole it. He stole my milk. The one for my beloved cereal just like he did the moment we started hating each other. The difference is, then, I followed the man I hated, now, I'm confidently and surely following the man I love.
...
the end.
