PROLOGUE
Juliette Danvers couldn't stop crying. She wasn't a crier, she never cried, she didn't cry when she had to go to her sister's "funeral", she didn't cry when Carol Danvers walked into the home she lived in with Maria and Monica Rambeau, she didn't cry when she found out that her sister wasn't a complete human anymore, she had superpowers due to an accident. Juliette Danvers cried the day her sister left.
"Julie, are you okay?" Maria Rambeau walked over to the girl, a cup of hot chocolate was placed on the night stand of the young one. Juliette hadn't moved from her bed, it had only been two hours since Carol left.
"Listen to me Juliette, I had found the meaning behind my new life, please," Carol kneeled down and looked at her sister, her hand placed on her cheek as she tried her best to get her attention. "Please be safe, listen to Maria, and do not worry, I will come to visit every year."
"But I don't want you to visit every year Carol," Juliette finally turned to look at her older sister "I want you to come every day, I want to see you every day, I want us to be normal and go to the movies, for us to be a family, please don't leave me." Her blue eyes started tearing up, Juliette was crying in front of her sister. She only did it once when her favorite teddy bear had broke from her arm but that was when she was five, it was understandable.
Juliette sighed and sat up on the bed, she pulled her knees to her chest and rested her head on them, her blue eyes turned to look at Maria, the older woman sat down on the bed beside her and pulled her to a hug. Juliette sniffled her tears and cleared her throat, her body pulling away from the older woman.
"I know it's hard to process everything that has been happening Julie, I know it's hard, but I promise I will look after you as my own," Maria searched for Juliette's eyes, her sky blue eyes weren't looking back, instead they traced the butterfly drawings on her bedroom wall.
Maria sighed and stood up from the child's bed, she understood that Juliette wanted to be alone and she was going to do exactly that, just enough time for her to know what was going on around her. Maria knew she would come over in a few hours and check on her, bring dinner in case the girl never walked out of her bedroom and tuck her goodnight when the moon was shining up to its brightest point.
Juliette Danvers didn't leave her room for three days, except for bathroom necessities and water breaks but to socialize or even go out and eat, play games with Monica, nothing like that happened. Maria's heart shrunk at the sight of the eight year old sinking in her own bubble of sadness, and not knowing what to do made her heart break even more.
"I think i'm going out for some fresh air." Juliette said, her voice was almost a whisper as she came walking into the living room. Maria turned to look at the child and nodded her head, asking if she wanted company. "I think I'll be okay having some alone time."
Juliette walked out her home, she headed over the front yard, her feet brushing on the wooden steps. The smell of wet grass was all she could smell, she knew two days ago it had rained and she wished she would've come out, played in the puddles and have her sister Carol dance with her under the rain, but she knew how impossible that sounded. Juliette Danvers sat on the grass and sighed, she closed her eyes and inhaled deeply, the wind brushing strands of her brunette hair across her face, it was a peaceful evening.
"Miss Danvers, nice to see you here." A male voice indicated that the moment of silence wasn't going to happen. The young girl looked behind her where she had listened the voice coming from, Nicholas Fury stood there, hands together before him, sunglasses on even if the afternoon was becoming darker by the second.
"Hi Fury." She smiled shyly at him, her eyes turning back to its initial attention.
"I was hoping I could get a chat with you alone, talk about your sister," Juliette looked down at the mention of her sibling "She wanted you to know that she's safe and helping galaxies far from here, keeping them safe."
"Galaxies?" Juliette had overheard a conversation but she just imagined they meant planets not galaxies.
"Yes, we are indeed not alone in this world, many other creatures like the one's we met personally, exist, not in our solar system or our Milky Way, your sister is bringing protection to them." Fury explained and kneeled down beside her.
"Fury?" She called out, the older man looked down at her. "What can I do to be like my sister, I mean, I don't want to be an alien or whatever she became but I want to protect people." Juliette said. She liked being helpful, she wanted to be a nurse, she dreamed of working in the field as a nurse too. Juliette Danvers wanted to help people, keep them safe, and she had a feeling Nick Fury had an answer.
"Well, when you become older, give me a call, I will give you a job position, I'm working on something that your sister had inspired me to do, but I would need your help." Fury took off his glasses, a cloth patch on his left eye and scratches over it.
Juliette smiled widely at the thought of helping Fury, doing something related even with her sister, she felt as doing so, this will help her get closer even though miles and miles were keeping them apart.
"When do we start?" Juliette Danvers asked, a cheeky grin across her face. Excitement overflowing her, the sadness she had felt, disappeared. Juliette Danvers didn't cry after that day, she wouldn't let herself cry anymore.
