━━━ v. everybody wants to be on your good side.

chapter five.

STROLLING INTO THE WOODS at night and hands weighed with their choice of weapons was a normal occurrence for the Morillo siblings, handling hunts was like going grocery shopping for them minus petty arguments over what to get (... that happens before they leave the house. ). Veronica, as usual was leading, the full moon light above then wasn't a bright enough light to guide them through the flashlight helped, imagine if they bumped into a werewolf tonight it'd be like killer spook. It was always her teaming up with Perseus and Yoselin when their parents couldn't attend, like tonight.

Crack. Veronica swallowed a flinch whipping around weapons pointed at the source, the empty forest stared back at the siblings. Sharing a quick glance; keep your weapons high there's something out here. Goosebumps rises and her fear got stuck in her throat as her green eyes met dilated brown eyes, it's breath huffed and puffed in their faces smacking them with air and morning breath almost knocking them off their feet.

It's colossal hand smacked Yoselin against a tree, Veronica dodged his fist slicing his left palm and his right elbow his growls only encouraged her. Perseus comes behind cleaning it's thick throat, it wheezes stumbling back to get out of his hold but Perseus locks his legs around his waist; their bodies trip against the bark and he grunts his grip loosen the beast takes advantage and throws him off his shoulder rolling him like a ball straight Veronica trips over his body.

"Damnit." She cursed, panting on her knees the ground trembles beneath her with each step he took; she grips her handle but he steps on them. Gritting her teeth, she glares up at him.

"Burn baby." Yoselin shouted, from behind and threw a petit dark ball at him. He catches it with ease and crushes it his hand like it was sand, she only grins and presses her remote. Flames grew on his palms spreading up his flanging arm, Veronica fell back on her butt squinting her eyes as it burns right before her eyes. "Are you going to kill it or admire it?"

Rolling her eyes, Perseus ambles from behind and catches the dagger she throws in air using the tree as a boast and stabs his heart, purple goo spluttered on his face. Yoselin made a sound of disgust, Veronica pretends to gag, the ogre's one eye glosses and sucks a breath the ground thumping when he lands, a hand on his heart the fire died down.

"Nice aim." Veronica murmured, nodding in approval when he hands her, her purple stained kindjal and slings it over her shoulder.

"Thanks, it's all in the wrist." Perseus humored, tapping the beast's leg with his foot for good measurement.  "Roasted ogre, anyone in the mood for chicken?"

"Gross." Yoselin gagged, chin dipped back admiring the bright stars out tonight.

"Stop being a freak." Veronica mocked, arms crossed.  "Gather around children; it's time to play for who gets to put the ogre in a bodybag."  None of them liked that part of the job, the bodies smelled and were heavy and you were so close to their corpses you'd be able to feel the life slipping out of them, it's a rotten gig settled by a fair game of rock, paper, scissors.  Neither had noticed until it was too late, Yoselin's head smacked into Perseus' buckling their knees their noise of pain hitting her ears.

It trembles with rage, his roar was so murderous she could almost taste Death on her tongue. Her grip tightens on her weapons taking control of her thumping heart, and fights. She falls on her knees dodging his attack, her kindjal cutting his knee and sliced his right elbow; he cries out in pain. Her feet touch the ground again, his large hands reach out to grab her she falls back her boot knocking his chest but he barely stumbles, surprised he grabs her arms and headbutt her.

A brief dizzy spell takes over her trailed by a sting, she can feel her body being lifted into the air and thrown like she weighed nothing.  Her shoulder throbs as it smacks into the rough ground, rocks and sticks digs into her body as she rolls emitting grunts from her mouth.  Making the thumping on her head worse, she found it harder to stop herself from rolling and collided against a tree.

The air in her lungs are knocked out, she grits her teeth eyes clenched trying to keep her whimpers in her mouth as her hip flares in pain.  "Damnit."  Not only are her sister and brother left alone fighting that fucking beast she's going to have an ugly bruise on her left hip.  Fucking hell this could not get worse; oh wait, she lost her dual kindjal on the way down.

She heard him before she saw him; his blood thirsty growls searching for a fragile victim, the thumping of his shoes, it's a full moon tonight werewolves were bound to come out and lose control.  Using the tree as support, she stands with a grunt panting through her nose ready for her next attack and pulls out a weapon tucked inside her right boot.

His gold eyes caught hers, she wraps the whip around her fist, he sprints straight for her mouth hanging open teeth bared. She knows him; she just doesn't know from where and doesn't have time to figure it out. The whip flew in the air gripping left wrist, he shouts in pain trying to claw it off his burning flesh. It wasn't a nice sound to hear but this was the only way she knew how to take him from hurting anybody else.

When he was close enough, he leaped at her and she threw her fist at him feeling his bone crack beneath her knuckles. Her clenched jaw kept the curse inside her mouth, the pain inside her hip was fading away thought it didn't stop her from pinching the bridge of her nose to calm herself; it was useless.

He tackled her to the ground, the rope around his wrist gone and claws grip her shoulders mouth wide open roaring.  "You choose the wrong fucking day to attack me, baby wolf."  Mimicking a move from her enemy, she headbutts him his fangs biting his tongue making him whimper weakling his hold on her, and smacks her fist on his check knocking him off her.   It only makes the rage inside him bubble.

"No! Liam, stop!" A person dived between them before she could strangle him, shouting at the golden eyed werewolf. "Don't go — " He surrendered briefly and made a run for it, he clearly wanted to run after them but something was preventing him from. "You were going to kill him! You kill innocent people, Veronica! Isn't that apart of your hunter code."

"When something looking like attacks you in the middle of the night you dont think about whether hes innocent or not." She snarled, her chest burning for losing her siblings and getting herself injured like this was her first time but damn, she does love the challenging ones. Her chin tilted up too  look him in the eyes, he was standing close, close enough for her to smell his lingering aftershave from the morning. "You should learn to tame your dog."

"It's a lot harder than it looks." He argued, huffing an irritated breath and ran a hand through his hair, stepping back he whips his head back to her.  "Are you okay? What were you doing out here — "

" — Uncle Chris!" Veronica chirped cutting him off a beaming dominating her lips, she could recognize him even with the added age on him. Great timing as well, she doubts he'd like to hear about the slaughtering of an ogre. He huffed when she fell in his arms, his own around her back. "We thought you died, old man." Something glazed in his eyes, she winced. "Poor choice of words."

"It's alright." Uncle Chris assured, his mouth quirking releasing the young huntress. "Where are Perseus and Yoselin, shouldn't they be out with you?"

"Shit." She murmured. They could survive a few minutes without her, couldn't they? Apart of their training was knowing when you can't win a battle, sometimes the best decision was to hide. Christ, she hopes Perseus and Yoselin know that.

Further down the forest, a black body bag laid in front of Perseus zipping up and pauses below the ogre's chin. He doesn't know why he did; he wonders if they found peace wherever the monsters they hunt goes or is it just bleak, is that what they'll see when it's their time? Perseus isn't one to put his faith in Heaven or Hell, believing if do this one bad deed your condemned to spent the rest of your life in Hell because what they do might not be justifiable in the eyes of supernatural but to them, it's what they need to do to stop the brutal murder of human beings. They're doing this to save their people, whether they realize it or not. Does that make them good or bad?

"What's wrong?" Yoselin's humored voice brought him back to planet earth, he barely spared her glance knowing a mocking comment was about to follow just by the way she talked. "Afraid he'll bite?"

"Shut up." He hissed his nose still stung from the punch he received, inclining forward and pinched the space close so he could zip it up. "If I'm so afraid then why are all the way back there and I'm here?" There was no sign of Veronica yet, worrying about a person like her was useless she'd find her way back alone. Always has.

A stick broke behind them, Perseus spun on his knee gun pointed at the source as Yoselin's whip smacked the ground. The girl stepped out of the shadows, hands raised smirking at them in a flurry. "And I thought I was the only hunter in these woods."

Her whip cracked a rock threateningly, her smile wide and fake voice as chirped as a Barbie doll. "I'd be happy take you out of the equation."

"There's no need to feel threatened." She cautioned, taking a step forward hands still raised like she was talking to animals.

"Why don't stay where you are before we use you as target practice." Perseus warned, eyes narrowed in cynicism standing back on his feet besides his sister gun pointed aimed between her eyes. "Now who the fuck are you?"

She gulped, wide doe eyes flickering between the two stern faced hunters. "I'm Violet. A hunter; like you two, maybe we could help each other out."

Perseus scoffed, tilting his head slightly. "What do you have that we could possibly need?"

"How this town works." She replied, her confidence building up and she smiles at them; neither returning it. "I know the hiding spots, the gaps. There are creatures hiding right underneath your nose, I could show you everything."

"Don't tell me you're doing this out of the kindness of your heart." Yoselin hissed, her grip tightening on the whip.

"You know me so well already." Violet humored, her eyes lingering on the sister tugging the bottom of her lip. Perseus clicked the safety off his gun, not amused with the way she was staring at his sister. "I'm not. You're both a Morillo, everybody wants to be on your good side."
