Chapter Nineteen

Cassie stood on the porch of Michael's house; she had calmed down since leaving Lucifer with her mother.

She began to feel like Lucifer was betraying her. He was her dirty little secret and she made the mistake of bringing him up, she made the mistake of asking for him to meet her mother, she made the mistake of telling her mother.

Cassie sighed heavily as she turned her back on the front door, she stared out at the manicured garden.

Her and Michael were complete opposites, his family came from money while she didn't. His family had the luxury of fancy living while she didn't.

Michael never bragged about money or the struggle of having to be embarrassed by his family's wealth instead he acted like it didn't exist to him.

Cassie watched as the leaves of the trees began to gently shake with the breeze, she watched as cars began to drive past the gated property.

She would give anything to just taste the life Michael had, though with him being her friend she was allowed to have that taste for mere moments when she visited his house.

Cassie always felt out of place at Michael's home even though his family welcomed her with open arms.

She jumped a little as she heard the door open, she turned her attention to an elderly woman standing in the doorway "Olita!" Cassie beamed.

Olita wrapped her arms around Cassie "My love, we've missed you." The woman tightly embraced Cassie.

Cassie felt safe in Olita's arms.

"Grandma, are you stealing my friend again?" Michael smirked as he came down the stairs.

Olita turned her attention to Michael "I'll make her my friend if you don't marry this girl."

Cassie buried her giggles on Olita's shoulder.

"Even this girl agrees." Olita turned her attention to a flustered Cassie.

Cassie slowly rose her face to Olita; she was lost for words as she giggled.

"Olita, for Cassie and I to get married. We'd actually have to start dating."

"Why aren't the two of you dating?"

Cassie didn't want to leave Olita's embrace as the woman pestered her grandson.

Michael lowered his head for a moment, he was embarrassed at the way his grandma spoke even though she wasn't wrong "We're just friends, grandma." Michael lifted his head; he hadn't realised the heartbreak written all over Cassie's face.

Olita glanced at Cassie's face "My dear child, even if my stupid grandson won't marry you. You'll always be welcomed in this family."

Cassie's hugged Olita tightly again "Thank you." Even though she had heard Olita mention it countless times before, she loved the reminder of always being welcomed in the Alexanda family.

Cassie slowly moved her arms away from Olita, Olita reluctantly took the cue.

"Come inside from the cold." Olita held onto Cassie's hand, leading the young woman inside. "Michael, close the door."

"Yes, Grandma." Michael rolled his eyes as he closed the front door.

Olita lead Cassie towards the lounge room.

"Grandma, I was hoping it'd just be me and Cassie."

Olita turned her gaze to Michael "You can join us; I know the two of you won't be doing anything."

"Olita, as much as I love seeing you." Cassie confidently spoke the truth "Michael and I haven't seen each other in six months, and I'd really love to catch up."

"Oh, I see. You've turned this sweet girl against me." Olita playfully glared at her grandson.

Michael played along as he shrugged without a care.

"Don't shrug at me, use your words."

Cassie loved watching the interaction between Olita and Michael.

"If my grandson gives you any grief, I'll be right down here." Olita reluctantly pulled her hand out of Cassie's hand.

"Thank you, Olita." Cassie kissed the woman's cheek.

Olita smiled with heart as she watched Cassie and Michael walk up the stairs.

Cassie sat on Michael's bed as he closed his bedroom door, there was something in the air that had shifted their mood.

She had never known Michael to be uncomfortable around her but in this very moment, he struggled to find comfort in sitting by her side. He struggled to find comfort in finding his words, he struggled to find comfort in just being her friend.

Cassie looked up at Michael's face, the way he opened his lips to speak but forced himself to stop. She watched as Michael kept lifting his gaze to her eyes than dropping his gaze to his lap.

"It's yesterday, isn't it?" Cassie sighed.

Michael held his gaze on her face as he watched Cassie lower her gaze to her lap. He didn't know how to answer.

"It's just some things are easier to talk to with my mother rather than you."

Michael uncomfortably nodded his head as he racked his mind for words.

"You were gone, and I was bored."

"I sent you photos."

Cassie nodded slightly; she hadn't gotten any of them.

"You never replied to my messages."

Cassie nodded slightly; she hadn't received any of his messages.

"I love you, Cassie but for six months we didn't speak to each other."

Cassie looked up at Michael, he had never said I love you before he had always said I like you.

She pressed her lips up against Michael's, neither knew what had gotten into each other as Michael wrapped his arms around her.

Cassie opened her eyes, staring into Michael's eyes. A smile formed across her lips as she slowly shifted away from Michael.

Michael kept his arms around her, watching as she blushed.

Neither knew what to say as they both felt the same emotion, they both realised what they both thought of each other.

In that moment, Cassie felt like she didn't need Lucifer anymore. She felt like she could just be with Michael and not worry about some guy she had meet even if he had swept her off her feet.

Michael and Cassie walked hand in hand down the stairs, giddiness ran through Cassie. Michael kissed her cheek as they stepped off the bottom step.

Together they walked hand in hand down the hallway leading down to the wide open kitchen.

Michael and Cassie stood in the entrance way of the kitchen watching Olita move around the kitchen, watching Olita pull items from the cupboards and the fridge.

Cassie's eyes dropped down to the raw mince of the kitchen bench; her body shivered with hunger as her eyes ate in the raw meat. Her mouth began to fill with salvia as her eyes focused on the raw meat waiting for Olita's touch.

Cassie's nose felt like it caught wafts of the raw meat scent as Olita began to break the mince up in a bowl.

Cassie swallowed hard as she fought against herself, forcing herself not to reach for the raw mince.

Olita mixed in spices as Cassie watched.

"Grandma." Michael's words broke Cassie's focused thoughts on the raw bloody mince packet.

Olita turned around, her hands covered in spices and small clumps of raw mince. Her eyes lit up "Oh my!" She noticed the two of them holding hands, she noticed lust written over Cassie's eyes "A grandmother always knows." She couldn't help but bounce her way towards the two young lovers, she wrapped her arms around Cassie and Michael.

Michael wrapped his arms around Cassie and Olita while Cassie inhaled the smell of raw mince near her face.

Cassie quickly pulled out of their arms, she ran out of the kitchen and down the hall to the downstairs bathroom, slamming the bathroom door behind her.

Olita looked at Michael "What did the two of you do?"

"Nothing, we just talked." Michael shifted his gaze to Olita.

"Go check on her." Olita turned her attention to the kitchen sink, rinsing her hands under the taps.

Michael made his way to the bathroom, he knocked on the closed door "Cassie?" he listened as she began to throw up. "Cassie?" He worried about her.

Even with the bathroom door still closed, Cassie would smell the raw mince. Her mind begged for it as she fought herself against it, her felt her body tighten as her face leaned over the toilet bowl.

"Cassie?" Michael called out again.

Cassie leaned against the bathroom wall trying to catch her breath. She looked at the closed door, she leaned her head back on the wall.

"Cassie? Are you okay? Can I come in?"

Cassie struggled to find her words as she closed her eyes for a moment. She heard the bathroom door open than close.

"Cassie? Cassie?"

Cassie opened her eyes "I'm fine. I guess lack of food is catching up with me." She lied.

Michael sat down next to her.

Cassie reached up and flushed the toilet before resting her head on Michael's shoulder, he wrapped his arm around her shoulder before kissing the top of her head.

"Well, Olita is cooking up a feast and I know mum and dad won't mind you joining."

Cassie smiled a little.
