Worst Christmas Gift
The whole basketball club cheered and laughed, as Taehyung, RM, and Jhope crowded around the microphone to sing the song they had chosen. Jin whistled loudly in approval. Lonna tried to hide her pout as much as she could in the dimly lit room. She looked over at Suga, who was laughing with another basketball member as he watched the three. So, when Suga said he had a prior engagement, he meant this. The thought made Lonna's pout worse.
Lonna sadly looked down at the gift bag beside her. I was so far from the mark.
"Krystal, here's the remote control." Jin said as he picked it up to hand it to her.
"No today is your celebration." Krystal tried to refuse. "Let the team sing to their hearts content. It's ok."
Suddenly, Jhope leaned in between them. He gave the couple a mischievous smile. "Captain, do you want to sing a duet with Krystal?"
Krystal tried to hide her giggle, as a blush tainted Jin's cheeks. "Shut up!" Jin yelled at Jhope.
"It would be nice to sing together." Krystal agreed, to help Jin not be so embarrassed.
A smile spread from ear to ear as Jin picked up the song list. "Okay! Let's sing together." The smile disappeared as he looked over at her with a questioning look. "So, did I take the initiative, or did you?"
It was Krystal's turn to blush as she rolled her eyes. "Idiot." Jin went back to looking at the songs.
A slow song started playing on the karaoke screen. Jhope grinned widely. "Look no more, your song has arrived." He told them.
RM quickly snatched the mic from Taehyung and pushed in the seat next to Suga. He looked over at Jisoo and winked at her as he got ready to sing. Just as he opened his mouth, Jhope grabbed the microphone from him. "Give it to me." He then pushed RM to the side of the room. "Move."
RM leaned sadly against the wall as Jhope gave the mic to Krystal and Jin. "I wanted to sing this song for Jisoo." RM sad angrily to himself. "Jhope, I'll remember this." He sulked as he sat back down beside Jisoo and Suga. Jisoo gave him a look, but quickly went back to watching Jin and Krystal sing. RM sat cursing Jhope in his head.
Lonna's depression got worse as she watched the couple joke and laugh with each other. I'm so envious. They are so good together. Her eyes drifted over to Suga once more. He bobbed his head to the music as he looked at the two singers. Then look at us...he doesn't look at me at all.
Jisoo's eyes wandered over in Lonna's direction for a moment, before she leaned over closer to Suga. "Prince, weren't you supposed to be home with the queen mother?" Suga leaned closer to hear what she was saying. Lonna instantly eavesdropped as jealousy took over her. "I remember that every Christmas you have a family gathering."
Suga leaned his mouth close to her ear for her to hear him. "I told Dad we were having a party. He'll take care of it." Jisoo looked over at Lonna staring back at them and gave her a cheeky smile. Lonna rolled her eyes at her.
Pamela's POV
Suga's grandmother's table was full of food. She stared sadly at the unused plates that sat on the opposite side of Mr. Min and Pamela. "Mom, young people have their own world." Mr. Min tried to cheer her up. "Especially on Christmas. They have a lot of activities."
"It's because he has a father like you, that Yoongi doesn't know how to behave." She said.
Mr. Min adjusted his Santa suit as he walked up to the table. "Mom, I'm famous for education using love." He ran his fingers through the fake beard as Pamela added another plate of food to the table.
"Look how you dress." She continued to take her disappointment out on him. "When did you start behaving so improperly?"
"Am I improper?" Mr. Min looked at Pamela. Pamela smiled brightly as she shook her head.
"Mom, I would have to disagree." Pamela said. "I think your son dressed as Santa, is especially appealing and especially appropriate."
Grandma rolled her eyes in annoyance. "Am I really that special in your heart?" Mr. Min did some overly cute ayego before wrapping Pamela in a hug. Pamela squealed with joy as they swayed back and forth.
"Especially fooling around." Grandmother said to stop the sickening display of affection.
"Mood is important." Pamela said trying not to let grandmother get to her. She smiled up at Mr. Min. "Especially tonight. We should love and give blessing to each other." Mr. Min loving looked at the woman beside him. "Isn't that why you wanted us to gather today?"
"Your point is contradictory. Where's Yoongi, then?" The sarcasm laid heavy in Suga's grandmother's voice. Mr. Min walked over closer to his mother.
"Mom, letting Yoongi do what he wants is a way of loving him."
"I don't agree with your argument." Mr. Min rolled his eyes secretly in his mother's direction. "I told you, Yoongi is..."
"The family successor." Mr. Min cut her off. "I haven't gotten Alzheimer's yet. Of course I remember." Pamela wiped her smile away as she saw the angrily glare Mr. Min's mother gave them both.
"You two better remember that." She demanded.
"We'll remember." Mr. Min repeated sarcastically. Pamela nodded her head in agreement.
"Where is Lonna?" Grandmother asked.
"I'm having the same complex feelings as you are." Pamela answered. "Our Lonna seems to have a date this romantic Christmas Eve." Pamela looked dreamily at the table setting. "The place settings are wrong. We have six servings here. Us plus Yoongi and Lonna are only five. You have one more."
Grandmother sighed in frustration. "Butler Chen. Take away the extra plates. Let's start." Mr. Min smiled in agreement and pulled out Pamela's seat for her to sit.
Lonna's POV
Suga clapped along to the music as he once again leaned closer to Jisoo. "Where is Jimin?" Suga asked.
"You forget. Jimin is a devote Christan. He is at church service." RM laughed at Jisoo's answer.
"Yeah. He can help you, the devil, absolve some sins." Suga playfully kicked his leg as he laughed.
"Does he go for the candy?" Jisoo teased. "I remember when I was little, I loved going for the candy and gifts."
Lonna watched Suga laughed at what Jisoo had said. When should I give him my gift? She thought. She grabbed the gift bag beside her and smiled warmly in his direction.
"While we're on the subject." Jhope spoke. "I'm glad we're not doing the lame gift exchange game. It's either soap, or boring lamp stands. Numbers 1 and 2 on the worst gift list."
"Let me add a number 3." Taehyung added. "Some girls love to knit scarves or gloves." Lonna quickly hid the bag behind her back. "They're so ugly. Yet I'm forced to wear them. Cramps my style. Big time."
Lonna gave the bag a disgusting look. I can't believe I'm on the worst gift list. The embarrassment of the gloves got worse the more she heard them talk.
"It definitely happens. In "Harry Potter," Ron's mother, knitted sweaters for Christmas gifts. Even Ron couldn't stand it." Taehyung continued.
"In this "My Sassy Girl" generation, how are there naive girls knitting gifts?" Jhope asked as he looked over at Lonna, who was playing with her earlobe as the blush turned her whole face red. "Isn't that right, Lonna?"
"I wouldn't know." Lonna tried to hide the nervousness in her voice. The last thing she wanted was for them to find out she had knitted gloves hidden behind her. She was sure they would tease her. She tricked the boys, but Krystal moved beside her, knowing something was off.
"What's wrong?" Krystal asked. Suga peeked over at the two as he swayed to the music.
"Nothing." Lonna lied. "Um. It's too noisy in here. I need to call mom." Suga watched as she got up and left. Even though she tried to hide it Suga noticed the frown as she walked out.
Once out of the room, Lonna quickly walked back to the lobby. She checked to make sure no one had followed her, before taking the bag out. "Why am I so stupid?" She said. She stared down at the bag. I almost became this Christmas's biggest basketball team joke.
"Why are you staring into space?" Hearing Suga's voice Lonna jumped around in surprise.
She quickly recovered. "No reason."
"Come back and sing." Suga suggested.
"I'll be right there." Suga noticed the bag she had in her hand and gave her an amused quizzical look.
"So...what do you have there?"
"It's nothing." Lonna quickly moved the bag back behind her back. Suga moved back and forth trying to see it, but Lonna blocked him by turning the opposite way.
"It's something. You're holding a bag."
"I said it's nothing. Go back where RM is." Lonna's face should how frustrated she was and Suga loved it.
He couldn't help but tease her. "Why? Are you pouting?"
"I'm not!" Lonna yelled defensively. Suga smirked as he chuckled.
He leaned his face in close to hers. "You are." He loved teasing her. He loved seeing her frustrated, it made her look so cute to him. He quickly left, smiling happily.
Lonna huffed in frustration as her head slumped forward. So what if I'm pouting? You'd never under the expectation I had. She leaned sadly against the wall in sadness. I just feel like a pimple in need of popping. Totally worthless.
She took her anger out on the bag, as she threw the bag in the trash can beside her. She didn't give it a second thought as she went back to the room.
