Two Dates

The mini van moved up and down as it went over the bumps in the road. “Why?” Suga asked annoyedly. “Why do I have to be the third wheel?” Lonna sat quietly beside him. She didn’t understand why he was so angry. Giggling came from the front seats. “Can you at least pay attention to the road?” He scolded.

Pamela bit her lip out of embarrassment. “Okay, it’s rare that I get a day off to spend with Yoongi, huh?” Mr. Min said from the driver’s seat. Pamela shook her head excitedly, trying to help Mr. Min in his good mood. “We’re going to the amusement park. Are you excited?” Both adults looked back at Suga.

“Can you keep your eyes on the road?!” Suga yelled. Pamela and Mr. Min quickly looked forward. Suga was frustrated with their giggling.

‘Is this a date?’ The thought popped into Lonna’s head. “Lonna…” Mr. Min saying her name, made Lonna look at him. She feared she had said her thoughts out loud. “Sorry to ask you out today.”

Lonna was relieved she hadn’t been caught. “It’s alright. I haven’t been to the park in ages. It should be fun.”

“Oh, I’m relieved. I thought with it being Sunday, you might have had a date. If so sorry to bother you.” Lonna’s head dropped at his words. Suga looked over at the blushing girl.

“It’s ok honey, Lonna has never been on a date.” Her mother said. Suga tried his best to hold in his laughter. “She’s so considerate. Always helping around the house. Like last week, she hung the comforters. The week before…” Lonna had never felt more humiliated.

“Mom!” She screamed. Thankfully, her mother stopped talking and turned around to look at her. “Stop!” Lonna whined. Lonna shyly looked over at Suga. A huge gummy smile was on his face.

“So alone.” He teased. He forced himself not to burst out laughing. Lonna pouted in embarrassment.

Krystal’s POV

The shoes still hurt her feet, but she had spent all night trying to force herself to walk in them. She still fumbled a bit, but she thought she had gotten the hang of it. Jin grabbed the extra helmet off the moped as soon as he saw her. “You look beautiful today.” Krystal smiled shyly at his compliment.

“Thank you.” She said. Jin held out the helmet to her, making her frown. Jin followed her eyes to her outfit. It was true that going on his method transportation would be difficult with the mini skirt she was wearing.

“We should take the subway.” He said. Krystal smiled awkwardly as she nodded in agreement. She couldn’t help feeling like this was already a bad start, but she tried to stay positive.

Krystal tried to break the awkward atmosphere as they walked. “Sorry, I only thought of dressing up. “

“It’s ok.” Jin said giving her an encouraging smile. “Where are we going?”

“Anywhere, let’s go to…” Krystal and Jin both thought, and said their answer at the same time.

“A movie/A ball game…” They frowned that their answer wasn’t the same. Trying to stay positive, Jin changed the subject.

“What do you want to eat?” They both again shouted their answer at the same time.

“Italian/Tantan Noodles…” The atmosphere got even more awkward.

“Let’s just take the subway and we will figure it out later.” Krystal said refusing to give up a positive attitude.

“Good idea.” Jin smiled.

Lonna’s POV

After driving for what felt like forever, they had finally made it to the park. Suga had stayed grumpy the entire time and he seemed to only get worse the closer they got. The parents had acted like complete kids and that hadn’t changed either since walking into the gate. They were both jumping up and down like excited children. “It’s been awhile since I have been here. So exciting.” They both screamed in excitement as they skipped ahead.

Lonna looked over at Suga, who was walking beside her and smiled. “A couple of kids.” He said grumpily. “I don’t know what the fuss is about.”

“I want to go on all of them.” Lonna said excitedly.

“Another kid.” Suga rolled his eyes at Lonna’s betrayal.

“It brings back memories. When I was little my dad use to bring me here.”

“Then have fun. I’ll be having coffee.” Suga said, before walking away.

“Yoongi!” Lonna called his name but he ignored her. Mr. Min and Pamela turned to see what was going on.

“Lonna, he…” Mr. Min started, but Pamela interrupted him.

“It’s okay.” She said grabbing his hand in hers. “Kids his age often feel embarrassed walking with adults. Let’s go have fun.” Mr. Min agreed reluctantly. “Lonna.” Pamela called to get her daughter’s attention, who had been staring in disbelief at Suga’s back. “Let’s go.” Lonna left with them but felt like she should follow Suga.

“What do you want to ride? Rollercoaster?” Mr. Min asked trying to keep his mind off Suga for now. Pamela looked at the rollercoaster as it zoomed past them.

“Rollercoaster! So exciting!” She screamed loudly. Mr. Min wrapped his arms around her and swayed back and forth as he joined in on the yelling. Lonna instantly regretted being alone with them. “What if I get scared?” They were shook from their display as a young boy bumped into them.

“Little buddy.” Mr. Min smiled a small smile at the boy.

“Sorry, say sorry.” The boys mother said.

“Sorry.” The boy said as his mother picked him up.

“So cute.” Mr. Min said as him and Pamela waved goodbye to the little boy. The boy looked over his mother’s shoulder at Mr. Min and smiled brightly. Mr. Min’s smile quickly faded. “To little kids…amusement parks are like heaven. I…this is my first time bringing Yoongi to the amusement park.” Pamela looked up at him with sympathy. “When he was little, I often told him that I would, when I had time. I’d bring him here. But I broke my promise every time.” The reason for Suga’s grumpiness clicked in Lonna’s head. She couldn’t help feeling sorry for him.

Krystal’s POV

By the time the made it to the mall that led to the subway, Krystal’s feet were hurting so bad, she could hardly stand. Jin noticed and helped her over to a nearby bench. Krystal pulled off one of the heels and studied her heel, to see if there were any blisters. “Are you alright?” Jin asked concerned.

“I’m fine.” Krystal lied. Without saying a word, Jin got up and ran off. Krystal was dumbstruck. She knew Jin had left her there. Maybe the date was worse than she had thought.

Lonna’s POV

“I never did anything a father should do.” Mr. Min said, the sadness in his voice was breaking Pamela’s heart. “I never taught him anything. Without me realizing it, my child…had transformed into someone who was completely self-sufficient. No matter what it was, he would ponder it and solve it alone. Never relying on anyone. I think Yoongi…probably forgot how to depend on others.”

Suga sulked as he looked around the park. A little boy fell on the ground as he tried to run past him. Suga put his hand down to catch him too late. The sound of footsteps interrupted his thoughts. He looked up at Lonna. Her face fell at the sadness she seen. Suga looked away from her, trying to hide his emotions. Lonna stretched her hand out to him. “Suga, what you missed as a child. We’ll help you find it, okay?” Suga took her hand and let her lead him around the park.

Krystal’s POV

Krystal limped through the subway mall, as she frantically looked for Jin. She became depressed when she couldn’t find him. “Krystal!” The voice yelling her name surprised her. She hadn’t heard that voice in a long time. She looked up at the boy that stood in front of her. Her ex-boyfriend gave her a small smile. She didn’t know she could be so mad just seeing someone. She looked away hoping he would get the hint, but instead of him leaving he walked closer to her. “How have you been? Why have we lost touch?” He asked. Krystal tried to ignore him. “Why did you end it so completely? We were friends.”

“You betrayed me first.” She said with her voice laced with rage. “And now you act like I’m at fault.” Jin stood behind them listening to their exchange. “Asking why I haven’t stayed in contact. I’m fine. Now…” Krystal saw Jin. “Let me introduce you.” She said quickly before moving beside Jin and taking his arm. “He’s Jin. He is my current boyfriend. He is my ex-boyfriend. How’s it going? Hooked up with your new girlfriend’s best friend yet?” The ex looked at Krystal evilly.

Jin felt awkward, but he didn’t say anything. “Let’s go.” Krystal said pulling Jin away. Once they were out of sight Krystal leaned up against the wall and tried to fight the tears that stung her eyes.

“Isn’t it ridiculous?” Krystal finally spoke. “Usually, I’m always cheerful, always saying the right thing, appearing to be strong. Truth is, I’m a failure.” Jin stayed quiet as he listened. “Why did my best friend and my boyfriend both betray me? I must be a terrible person, or else they wouldn’t have done it. I’m angry at myself. I’m angry that I trusted the wrong person. I’m angry I loved the wrong person. I didn’t have confidence…I didn’t have confidence to love another.” The tears were falling now against her will. “Until…until I met you. I had high hopes for our date today. But from the start it’s been awkward. And then he showed up. Is it true? That in this lifetime…I will never meet a Mr. right.”

“I…” Jin searched for the right words. “I’m happy that you finally loosened up.” Krystal gave him a confused look. “You don’t need to hold back. If you don’t want to go see a ball game or eat Tantan noodles, you can tell me. Because the person I want to date is none other than Krystal.” Krystal smiled at his sweet words despite her tears.

Jin reached behind him and grabbed the shop bag. He bent down in front of Krystal. “If your shoes don’t fit. Why force yourself to wear them?” He pulled a shoe box from the bag and opened it. “I noticed when you fell down.” Krystal bit her bottom lip in embarrassment. Jin pulled off her shoe and put the one he had bought her on. “Relying on others, isn’t shameful. Especially when he wants you to rely on him.” The tears started falling from her eyes again. “Don’t hold everything inside. Talk things out and you will feel better.”

“Can I really say anything?” Krystal asked. Jin nodded in agreement. Krystal couldn’t hold herself back anymore as she wrapped her arms around him and laid her head on his shoulder. “These shoes, you bought them yourself?”

“Yes.” Jin said.

Krystal laughed. “But…They’re ugly.”

“Sorry.” Jin laughed himself. “If you think they are ugly, then we should go find a better pair together.” Krystal nodded happily. ‘With the right shoulder to lean on, the right shoes no longer matter.’ She thought as she hugged Jin tighter.

Lonna’s POV

Mr. Min smiled happily as he watched Suga and Lonna act playfully on the merry-go-round. He was happy to see his son smiling. Pamela hugged his arm reassuringly as they both watched them. After the ride, Lonna pulled a smiling Suga behind her to the next ride.

Lonna leaned her head on Suga’s shoulder as they sat in the Ferris wheel seat. ‘To other people’s eyes, do we look like lovers?’ She thought happily. “Back there we looked like…” Lonna thought about her words. “A real family.”

“What?” Suga asked confused.

“There was Father, Mother, Sister, and Brother.” Suga was confused with what she meant. “It seems…I can’t be my true self, when we’re in front of them.” Suga knew now that she was feeling doubt in them.

“So what?” He said a bit annoyed. “I just wish the people I love would stay with me. That’d be enough.”

“Does your wish for people you love to stay with you…” Lonna looked over at Suga. “Does that include me?” Suga looked at her and smiled.

“Of course it does.” He said. Lonna couldn’t help but feel happy again.
