The Devil's Decison
It had taken some pleading on his part, but Jungkook had eventually talked Suga into coming with him to visit their mother. He had second guessed himself over and over, but once they walked into the house, he knew this was what needed to be done. It was the only thing he could do to make his mother come back to herself again.
As they came to the hallway that would lead them to Ms. Jeon's room, they both stopped. Jungkook looked over at his brother and a wave of guilt hit him again. Suga was tense as he stared down the long corridor, Jungkook could swear he saw fear in his eyes. He decided staying behind was best as he watched Suga take a deep breath and slowly make his way to the open door.
Suga could feel his heart beat frantically in his chest as the door grew closer to him. He knew that his will was stronger, but if what Jungkook had told him was the truth, he didn't know how to feel any longer. His anxiety was kicking in as the door was right in front of him. Part of him was scared to even look inside.
Lonna's POV
"Until Suga makes his final decision, all I can do is wait. I can't imagine that in the end, he won't choose me." Even though Lonna tried to sound confident, Krystal and Jin weren't fooled.
"I don't believe he will abandon you to go to Italy." Krystal said trying to get the sad look off her friend's face. "Why would he? You two are finally being accepted. On this journey, you two went through a lot, to finally be like regular couples. Why destroy your hard-earned happiness?"
Lonna looked over at Krystal who gave her an encouraging smile, but she sighed sadly in response. "Many times I thought we couldn't make it, but Suga would always lead me on, make me believe whole-heartedly that as long as we liked each other, we could be together."
Jin chuckled at the memory of Suga stealing Lonna away and placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "That's right, due to the road you took for your love, it was difficult. But you both still marched on. It encouraged me to face Krystal's father and fight for happiness." Krystal and Jin exchanged a loving glanced that made Lonna want to puke.
"I envy you two." Lonna said sadly.
"Even though everyone can't be measured by the same scale, but if I can do it, Suga can do it too." Jin said.
"But..." Lonna's voice suddenly grew distant. "A chunk of missing time with his mother is something no amount of my love can fill. He has always suppressed that desire. It's the first time I've ever seen him uncertain."
Hearing Lonna put it that way, not even Jin and Krystal could find anything more to argue with.
Suga's POV
Initially seeing the state of his mother's dark and messy bedroom made guilt hit him hard. The clean and dirty clothes mixed with wadded up tissues littering the floor made his heart ache. Once his eyes fell on the bed, he forced himself to push those feelings down and remember why he had come here to begin with. He was here to help his brother, and seeing her wallowing and not caring about Jungkook's feelings made him angry at her once more.
He marched over to the bed in a huff and pulled the cover off of her."Ajumma!" He yelled as he freed her from the blanket she had dug herself into. "How old are you? Why are you acting like this and making Jungkook worry?"
Hearing him scream at her, seemed to light a angry fire in his mother. She lifted up from her laying position and gave him a scolding glare. She picked up one of her pillows and hit him in the arm with it. "Don't call me ajumma!" She screamed back.
"You look terrible." Suga said as he leaned closer to her. "So ugly." His mother's mouth dropped open at his insult.
"Hush up, you're too noisy!" She yelled before turning from him and sadly pulling her knees to her chest, resting her chin on them. "Why are you here? No one asked you to be."
Seeing the gleam of tiny tears start to run down her cheek, made Suga feel slightly guilty again. He quickly turned his head to avoid seeing them, but seeing the butt filled ashtray helped to fuel his anger again. "You still smoke? You were like a thief, sneaking behind grandma's back to smoke. Isn't that right?"
"When I shouldn't smoke, I didn't smoke. When I was pregnant with you and Jungkook, I didn't smoke at all!" Suga's want to argue caught in his throat as her tear soaked face turned back to him. "Your whole family is the same. None of you acknowledge me. You are the same as them. Even if that old lady doesn't like me, it doesn't change the fact that I will always be your mother!"
Even though Suga had turned his head from her and hid his hurt expression with his bangs, from where Jungkook stood outside the room, he could see the heartbroken expression. He could see the anger once in his eyes start to fade away. He knew his brother's resolve was starting to break.
Ms. Jeon continued her angry rant. "Even if I die, my identity won't change!" The tears continued to fall, each one felt like a nail in Suga's heart. His silence only made Ms. Jeon even more upset, before she could think, she got up on her feet and started to hit him repeatedly in the arm. "Go away! Go away! Go back to your father!" She finished her fit by shoving him.
Suga didn't make a move to stop her as she hit him, but once she was done, he angrily moved back to her. "If I leave now, you'll just throw another tantrum, upset yourself, make Jungkook worry, right?" His forceful voice seemed to snap his mother back to herself. She moved away from him, embarrassed by her outburst, but Suga moved closer to her. He rolled his eyes as she started to sob again. "Who's older? You, the mother? Or Jungkook? Enough already."
His mother quickly raised he head to look at him once more. "Right! I'm hopeless, disappointing, and terrible! I'm the most useless mother in the world!" She pointed out the door. "I have one son who lives with me, but never accepts my care." Jungkook could feel his chest tighten in sadness, as he stood at the end of the hall, listening to his mother pour out her feelings. "And another son that doesn't want me at all!" Suga bit his lip as her sad voice cracked next to his turned face. "You're not even willing to address me!"
Hearing her sobs this time, made Suga's resolve snap completely. His heart started to race as he finally faced her. "Do you really want to live with me again?" His mother only searched his face in disbelief. Suga's nerves were about to snap as the silence lingered between them. "Hey, did you hear me?" His voice shook giving away the nervousness he was feeling.
"Of course I do." Suga could tell by the way her sad eyes looked at him that what she said was truthful. "I've always regretted it. Regretted giving you up. Why...why...why couldn't I just stand that family a little longer?" Seeing the sincerity in her eyes made it hard for Suga to hold back the tears, it felt like a dream come true, hearing her say the words he had always wished she would. "If only I could have believed in what that man said, maybe we would have lived happily together."
A sudden flashback crossed Suga's mind as he looked at his mother. A day when his father had actually been around, a day he had rarely kept his promise to be there. He remembered seeing his mother's bright smile as she watched him playing with him and his brother. "Yoongi?" His mother's small voice called him out of the thought. "Can your mother hug you one more time?"
Suga couldn't hold back his feelings any longer, he simply nodded his head in answer and stood still as his mother instantly wrapped him into a tight embrace. His mind wondered as he felt the warmth he had always been missing. 'Mother's embrace. As a child, I often dreamed about it. But when I woke up, I'd always wipe away the tears, and be mad at myself. Gradually my heart and dreams automatically blocked her out. Instead of constant disappointment, I chose to forget. To stop hoping.' Giving up the pain he had always felt, Suga let his guard down and let his head drop comfortably to his mother's should as he allowed her to hold him, like he always dreamed she would.
Jungkook stiffly leaned against the living room wall as he watched Suga walk towards him. He could see by his expression that his resolve had changed and it made him feel guilty. Suga stopped walking as he made it beside him. "That ajumma is still crying...I'm leaving the rest to you."
"Okay." Jungkook said softly in response.
Suga could sense the unease in his voice. "Then...I'll be back again." Jungkook knew by the slight angry tone that Suga knew that he had been eavesdropping. Suga started to walk away.
"Hyung!" His sorrow filled call stopped Suga in his tracks. "Is it really okay?" The small tears in his eyes made Suga give him a confused look. "I mean Lonna."
Suga didn't answer as a pain shot through him at the mention of her name. He only dropped his head in sadness and went out the door, leaving Jungkook behind feeling horrible for betraying the one person who had helped him.
Jin's POV
After school, Krystal and Jin were quietly walking home. Lonna's sad expression still weighing heavy on both their minds. "The way Suga is, once he makes a decision, it's difficult to change his mind." Jin spoke breaking the silence.
Krystal gave him a confused look. "You mean you're not confident about their future?"
"Truthfully, adding together time, space, enviromental differences, how people's feelings can change, no one can predict." Jin's sad truth made both of their hearts ache for Lonna and Suga.
Mr. Min's POV
A soft knock on his office door pulled his attention away from the papers he was looking at. "Come in."
Mr. Min's Secretary bowed apologetically for interrupting as she opened the door. "President, your son is here to see you." Her announcement instantly made Mr. Min's smile fade as Suga stepped into the room from behind her.
Despite the solemn face of his son, Mr. Min tried to keep positive as he stared happily at Suga, who sat across from him. "It's unusual for you to come to the office." Even though he should a smile, his heart beat nervously in his chest.
Suga drew in a shaky breath as he sat up in the chair. "Today, I've come to ask you to listen to an unreasonable request."
Mr. Min smirked. He had knew this was coming, but he tried his best to mask the pain he was feeling. "You should know that I am different from your grandma. No matter what your requests, I never thought of them as unreasonable."
Suga copied his father's smirk as he readied himself to ask. "Please allow me to go to Italy with mom." Suga's heart pounded as he watched the smile fade from his father's face.
"You've decided?" Mr. Min asked.
"Yes." Suga spoke confidently.
"You feel by doing this, you'll recover what you lost?" Mr. Min raised an eyebrow in question.
"What I've lost?" His father's question made Suga stop and think for a moment. "Maybe."
"But, at the same time, especially for your grandma, it means...you're giving up your succession to the Min family." His father lean closer to Suga as he watched him think over this information.
Finally, Suga sighed. "I never planned to take over the Min family, or your current business. Eventually, I would disappoint grandma. Why not now and end it here?"
Mr. Min chuckled at Suga's expected response. "Right. That part I knew you wouldn't mind." He gave him a half hearted smile. "So then, I will support you." Suga bit his bottom lip in an attempt to control his emotions as his father moved closer to him and stared at him with his large sad eyes. "I haven't lost you as a son...right?"
Suga's heart tightened at his father's sad voice. "No." His voice cracked as he answered. He looked his father straight in the eyes. "And you never will." Mr. Min's smile quickly returned at his son's sincere answer. He quickly breathed a sigh of relief. "Old man..." Suga voice cracked with emotion. "I'll reluctantly let you hug me."
Mr. Min wasted no time in wrapping his son in his arms, and for the first time since he was young, Suga returned the squeeze. He silently used the moment his father couldn't see his face to finally let the tears he was holding in fall freely down his cheeks.
