Lonna's Diary
Suga glared at Lonna over top his bowl making her so nervous, she barely felt like eating. Pamela picked up the spoon and stirred the hot pot contents, still completely oblivious to the situation around her. “Such a delicious hot pot.” Pamela said. “Too bad your father isn’t here to enjoy it. Too bad.” She sadly shook her head as she refilled her own empty bowl.
“Auntie.” Suga suddenly speaking made Lonna jump involuntarily. He never took his eyes off her as he started a conversation with her mother. “You were saying noona was having a Teacher-Student affair?” Lonna silently cursed him for bringing the subject back to her mother’s attention.
She quickly shoved a piece of food in her mouth, trying to look normal, but she instantly regretted it. The broth was so spicy, it burnt her tongue on impact. “Ah! Mom! Why is it so hot? Didn’t say only a little spicy?”
“Isn’t it tasty?” Suga teased her.
“Are you okay?” Her mother joined in on Suga’s teasing as they both laughed at her.
Suga stopped laughing as he slowly reached next to him and grabbed a tissue, handing it over to Lonna. A large creepy smile on his face. “You’re sweating.”
Lonna glared angrily at him as she snatched the tissue from him. Remembering the subject, Pamela lightly tapped Suga’s shoulder. “You’re right. It was a Teacher-Student affair. Our Lonna proclaimed she would only marry Keun-suk. Even swore to it.”
“I didn’t! Don’t lie!” Lonna yelled defensively.
“You’ve forgotten. I’ll prove it to you.” Pamela said before getting up from the table.
Lonna jumped up from her chair but was too late to try and stop her mother. “Mom, what are you doing?” She demanded to know.
Suga laughed loudly. “This is so great.” He teased, but Lonna knew he was just trying to hide his jealous rage in front of her mother.
Shortly after, Pamela came back to table holding a small notebook in her hands. She scooted her chair closer to Suga and opened it up to the front page. There was a small picture of Lonna when she was younger, sitting beside Keun-suk. “Yoongi look, this is her middle school diary.” Suga gave the picture an angry glare as he saw the two-smiling people staring back at him. He quickly hid it with a fake smile. “Everything written here are about sweet memories of Keun-suk.” Pamela motioned to the page with words written in bold black ink. Lonna couldn’t move as she just gulped. “Lonna was so cute back then.” Her mother gushed.
“She was cute.” Suga agreed. Lonna was mortified by their interaction. “Why didn’t I meet her back then?”
Lonna had had enough of this and tried to take the book. “Give it…”
Before she could get near, Suga took it out of Pamela’s hands and moved it out of Lonna’s reach, as he started flipping through the pages. “It’s the whole book.” Lonna watched as Suga’s eyes widen at the shock of how many pages there were.
Lonna quickly tried to get the book out of his hands once more, but Pamela quickly grabbed them. “Oh, yeah, Lonna, I promised Keun-suk that tomorrow you will show him around.” Lonna felt her chest tighten in anxiety.
“Mom! Why did you make that decision on your own?!” She yelled.
Pamela gave her daughter a pouty look. “He wants to see daddy’s old house.” Lonna quickly looked over at Suga, who’s eye twitched as he listened. “I think it is great.” Pamela continued talk as Suga looked up at Lonna, she swore that if he could get anymore mad, steam would be coming out of his ears. “When you give him the key, you can show him around the house too.” Lonna silently begged her mother to hush, but of course she kept talking. “The place is filled with your childhood memories.”
Suga saw Lonna give her mother a pleading look. “So spicy…I could breathe fire.” The jealousy made his voice come out low and gravelly. Lonna gulped.
Suddenly Pamela eyes lit up as she remembered something she had forgotten. She quickly turned and gave Lonna a pitiful look. “One more thing…Lonna don’t be upset.” The words seemed hard for her to say and it made Lonna’s heart pound quickly. “I think Keun-suk already has a girlfriend.” Lonna felt like a weight had lifted from her chest, allowing her to breathe again. “She’s very pretty, and I think she owns a café.”
Lonna fell back into her chair as she breathed heavily in relief. Suga ran his tongue over his bottom lip as he grabbed his chopsticks again and went to continue eating. “Mom, why didn’t you say so before? How many times have I told you, always get to the point?” She shot a sweet smile at Suga. “Breathing better now?” Suga didn’t answer her, he only jabbed another piece of meat with his chopsticks and shoved it in his mouth. Lonna rolled her eyes at his attitude.
Suga’s POV
Suga tapped his fingers on the surface of his desk as he looked down at the notebook that laid in front of him. Part of him wanted to rip it open and find out what secrets it held, but the other part of him said he wouldn’t like what he found. Just as he was silently trying to figure out which side to listen to, a small knock sounded at his door. “Suga.” Lonna’s voice caused him to look over at the door for a second, before once again staring at the small book. Lonna pouted at the door when Suga didn’t answer her. She debated whether to knock again but thought it best if she didn’t.
Suga angrily slammed his fist on the book as he pushed himself out of his computer chair. He walked up to the door and opened it in a rage. The words he had planned to yell got caught in his throat when he saw Lonna was no longer there. He huffed in frustration until he caught a glimpse of a small figure sitting in the chair on the other side of the hall.
His anger flew away as he looked at her. She had her knees pulled up to her chest and her head laying sadly on them. He felt his heart instantly soften at the image. “Why are you sitting here?” He asked calmly.
Lonna slowly lifted her head and let her eyes only look over at him. “I thought, you’re bound to come out for a midnight snack or something.” Suga couldn’t help but pity the sadness in her voice.
“Aren’t you cold?” He asked. He was slightly mad that she had chosen to wait. To his surprise, Lonna didn’t answer him. Instead she turned herself towards his direction and held up the glove he had made her covering one of her hands. Once again, he couldn’t stay mad at her. Lonna slowly moved out of the chair and walked over to the wall beside Suga, leaning up against it. Suga came out of his room and shut the door behind him, joining her on the wall.
He slowly put the other end of the glove over his own hand and laced their fingers together. Lonna was the one to break the silence between them. “That diary…”
“Want to reminisce? It’s in my room.” Suga interrupted her. The jealousy was slowly starting to consume him again. “You can go get it.”
“That was before I met you.” Lonna’s voice took a sweet, but serious tone. “There was a fluttering heart, there was a romantic fantasy, there was shyness.” Suga stayed silent, but he couldn’t keep from rolling his eyes. “There was anticipation for the future. Those feelings were all real. But after I met you…”
“What?” Suga asked.
“I became sure that, I don’t regret having a crush on Keun-suk. Then a crush on Jin.”
Suga slowly looked at her for the first time. He was once again becoming angry. “You don’t regret it?”
Lonna smiled before she turned to look him dead in the eyes. Suga could feel his heart pound roughly against his ribcage with the way she looked up at him. Slowly she lifted their glove covered hands up between them. “Because the warmth here is the most real.” Suga looked over at their hands as his features softened. “When I see your angry face, I feel anxious.”
Suga’s eyes instantly shot back to hers. “I’m not angry.” He denied. “
“Or when you put on pretense, it makes me laugh.”
“Hey!” Suga said taking offense.
“Because I can compare, that’s how I know which person I will always like.” Lonna looked deeply into Suga’s brown eyes. Suddenly seeing his gummy smile, made a bright smile come to her own lips. She thought she had pulled off her trick. “You’re not angry? Can I have my diary back?” The excitement of her success made her spill her true intentions.
Suga’s happy smile faded as he realized he had been tricked. “Never.” He angrily took his hand back and rushed into his room, slamming the door in Lonna’s face.
Lonna angrily pounded on it. “Give it back. It’s personal. Don’t you have any ethics?!” She screamed.
To her surprise Suga once again opened his door, just enough to stick his head out. She was instantly stunted to silence. “I haven’t read it yet. How can I give it back?” Just as quickly as he had opened the door, he shut it and locked it again.
“Suga!” Lonna screamed again as she hit the door in frustration.
“After I read it, I’ll decide whether to shred or burn it!” Suga yelled. Lonna stomped her feet like a child throwing a tantrum, before going back to her room in defeat.
Suga quickly grabbed the notebook and sat down at his desk. He opened it up to the first page and read what was written. Today, keun-suk and I had my first dance ever. Suga’s eye started to twitch again as he turned to the next page. I think the world is so beautiful. In a jealous rage, Suga threw the book to the other end of the room. As it slammed against the wall, the pages flew everywhere.
Suga looked down at the floor, to a piece of the book that had floated close to him and read what was written. Today I read a romance novel. The main character was just like Keun-suk. Good at studying, good at sports, and well mannered. If I could become the girl in the story, my life would be perfect. Having his anger spike again, he jumped up and retrieved all the torn-out pages.
Once he had gathered them all he jumped up on his bed, but instead of laying on it he stood on top of it and started walking around on it in a circle. Trying to use it to control his anger. He read the top page. I did terrible on my quiz, but because of that, I could ask Keun-suk to comfort me. When he hit my head with the plastic bag, it didn’t even hurt. Instead I felt so happy. God, please let all the girls around Keun-suk be butt ugly, that he pukes at the sight of them. And…let me grow up soon! Suga tossed each page he read away, making the small papers liter his bed. After he had read all but one, he kicked the discarded ones to the floor in a fit of anger.
After all the pages were scattered on the floor, he furiously plopped down on his mattress and crossed one leg over his other, propping his head up with on hand behind it. He shook his bare foot quickly in his fury. Against his better judgement, he lifted the last piece of paper up to see what was written. My goal in life…I must be Keun-suk’s bride! Suga crumpled the paper into a tight ball and threw it away.
He breathed heavily trying to calm himself, but the words he had read replayed in his head, making that task impossible. Being completely fed up, he ran over to the wall between his and Lonna’s rooms and pounded on it as he screamed loudly.
With the thickness of the walls, Lonna couldn’t hear Suga’s angry pounding. She paced her room nervously as the time seemed to pass by slowly. Getting an idea, she quickly grabbed her phone off her desk.
Suga stopped pounding on the wall as his cellphone went off. Picking it up he sat on his bed and opened one of the new messages. To his surprise it was a picture of Lonna making a funny face. Curious of what the next message held, he quickly pressed the button to view it. Again, a picture of Lonna came to view, but this time she was making a kissy face. “Don’t try to be cute.” Suga said aggravated.
In the other room, Lonna held her phone in between her palms as she silently prayed her idea would work.
The third message, vibrated the phone in Suga’s hand. He quickly pressed the button, making the photo load up. This time Lonna had sent him an image of her doing a piggy face. He couldn’t stay mad anymore as he stared at it. The cuteness broke his angry glare and his signature gummy smile spread his lips. “Idiot.” He teased as he laughed.
The next day…
Suga and Lonna walked down the subway steps together. “Take the subway alone. Have fun on your date with Keun-suk.” The jealousy was once again heavy in his voice.
“It’s not a date. I’m just giving him the key.” Lonna said quickly.
They both stopped walking as Seungwan walked into their path. “Yoongi. Unnie.” She said surprised to see them there. Lonna and Suga both were shocked to see her as well.
