Insecurity

Krystal stood outside the theater. It was once again raining, but it had eventually reduced to light drops. She held the movie tickets close to her in a fierce grip, as she stared into the puddle of water in front of her. It held her attention like she could find all the answers she was seeking.

She had followed the girl to find out what she had meant. All it had done was depress her. She thought back about the whole encounter, trying to find it all a lie.

"Let me remind you, you're making the same mistake." The girl was been arrogant as she talked.

"I don't think you know me that well. Besides..." Krystal gave the girl an evil look. "I don't need your reminder."

"Don't deny it." The girl gave her a cocky smirk. "I heard you pursued your current boyfriend, the basketball captain too."

"So what?" Krystal rolled her eyes.

"Do you know why Jaeho chose me after he dumped you?"

"Because you're both easy?" Krystal tried to sound as sassy as her ex-best friend was acting.

The girl rolled her eyes at her, she seemed to be unfazed by Krystal's question. "What about you? Back then, Jaeho wasn't interested in you. If you hadn't took the initiative, he wouldn't have gone out with you."

Krystal crumpled the tickets in a tighter grip as her last words played over in her head.

"You know what your problem is? When a girl takes the initiative, the guy doesn't appreciate her." The girl flipped her hair in Krystal's face.

Momo bent over and grabbed her knees, trying to control her ragged breath. She had run a very long way. "Krystal, I made it." Krystal didn't even look at her. "What time is the movie, can we still make it?"

Finally looking closely at Krystal, Momo could see her depressed expression. "If not, it's ok. You can bring Jin next time."

Krystal seemed detached as Momo looked at her. "Is someone like me..." She finally spoke, Momo was worried by the amount of sadness in her voice. "Not worthy of being appreciated?"

Momo didn't understand what she meant and that worried her even more. "What happened? What are you talking about?"

Krystal didn't say anything as she turned away from Momo, and started walking slowly down the street. The tears started to fall as she though about her problems in silence. Feeling overly worried now, Momo decided to follow her.

After going home to change, Krystal and Momo were now walking into the entrance of the basketball court. Krystal was still acting weird to Momo as she leaned against the door and watched.

Krystal's eyes went instantly to Jin as she watched him practice. Jin passed the basketball to another player before Suga could reach for the steal. As she watched him playing another piece of the conversation popped into her mind.

"I'm guessing that right now, your boyfriend finds basketball more interesting than you." The girl said.

Krystal had came to the practice, trying to find some evidence to debunk the girl's statement. The more she watched, the harder that got. She wondered if it was really something she could say was truthful. The thought broke her heart.

Jin dribbled the ball down the court. Suga tried to block him, but Jin jumped over him to make the basket. Lonna and Jisoo cheered happily for him.  Krystal watched his face, the smile of pure joy was very evident to her. It was different than when he was with her.

Krystal and Momo watched as Suga caught the rebound. He evaded the other players, to make it to the other basket to get another point. Jin looked frustrated that he hadn't stopped him. Until time was up, the ball went back and forth between them, with each of them making baskets everytime.

Lonna and Jisoo grabbed a water and towel and ran out to give them a break. Jisoo went to Suga and Lonna went to Jin. "Captain." Lonna called to Jin as she held out the water and towel.

"Thank you." Jin gave her a kind smile as he took the items.

"Are you confident about the game?" Lonna asked trying to start a conversation.

"Of course, we have our secret weapon, Suga." Jin joked. Krystal felt her heart drop as she watched the two interact from the door. "If you hadn't took the initiative, he wouldn't have gone out with you." She wondered if the girl was right after all.

Watching Lonna and Jin laugh together, made it a hard fact to ignore. If she had never been the first to start, Jin would have loved Lonna forever, and she would have never been a thought. Feeling a mix of emotions, Krystal left with Momo following her lead.

Lonna's POV

The members stood in a line as Jin talked. "Tomorrow's the day we will be playing our nemesis. The xx College. Everyone should work harder, understood?!"

The team cheered loudly before they all came together. They each put a hand in the middle, making their hands overlap. "Go, go, go!" Jin shouted enthusiastically as they moved their hands up and down. After, the cheer was done, they lifted the hand in the air and separated. "Let's practice." Jin threw the ball to RM.

RM circled around the mass of boys, Suga managed to steal the ball. No matter who guarded him, he broke through making the basket. It became a fight of the baskets between Jin and Suga as Lonna and Jisoo watched happily from the sideline.

"When did our team get so high spirited?" Lonna asked Jisoo.

"When Suga returned to the court, of course." Jisoo smiled at her. Lonna couldn't deny it was the truth, so all she could do was nod her head in agreement. This was the most important event of the school year, and Lonna was sure the boys were ready for it.

Krystal's POV

Krystal sat in front of the laptop in her father's at home office. She clicked away on the keys as Momo walked beside her. "Krystal, what's going on?" She has worried about Krystal since the theater, but Krystal wouldn't tell her anything. "You've been acting odd ever since we got back from the theater."

Krystal ignored her and continued to type. "Krystal, Jin ditching you was his fault, but it's a critical time for him. You know how committed he is to basketball. Confront him after the competition."

Krystal laughed suddenly. "This guy from the internet is pretty funny. He just told a cool joke. I should ask what school he is from." Just as she started typing again, Momo's phone rang.

Krystal stared out of the corner of her eye as she eavesdropped on the conversation. "Hello?" Momo said as she answered. "Lonna...yeah. We didn't wait for you because..." She looked at Krystal wondering if she should say anything.

Krystal quickly looked back at the screen and bit her lip. "Krystal and I got bored watching them play." She lied. "I got it, we'll be at the game tomorrow."

Lonna walked around the campus waiting for Suga to get out of practice, so they could walk together. "Good, Jin will definitely want to see Krystal cheering for him. Ok, bye." Lonna hung up.

"Bye." Once Momo hung up her phone Krystal went back to typing on her computer.

"He's asked me to meet him tomorrow." She said shocking Momo.

"As if! Why would you meet him?" Momo asked. Krystal refused to answer as she went back to talking on the computer.

Lonna's POV

Lonna tapped on her phone as she wasted time. "Lonna!" Hearing her name being yelled, she turned to see who it was.

"Jungkook!" She smiled at him as he walked up to her. He was dressed handsomely and the once spikey hair was now neat and laying flat. Lonna was relieved he looked so well. "Suga is almost done with practice, do want to go look for him?"

"It's ok, that..." Jungkook was nervous as he stood in front of Lonna. He thought she should hate him. "Lonna, I got rid of all those DVDs. I'm really sorry."

"It's ok." Jungkook didn't question her being quick to forgive him, he just happy she was. "Tomorrow, Suga has a basketball game. You should come."

"Can I?" Jungkook wasn't sure he should.

"Of course!" Lonna assured him. "If you're there to cheer for him, he will be super happy."

Suga's POV

Suga stood and watched the interaction between Lonna and his brother. A smile came to his face as he realized how happy he was seeing it.

Just as he was about to walk to them, a van pulled up on the road beside them. Lonna and Jungkook were walking with their backs to them, talking happily. The four bullies exited the van, all holding thick steel pipes in their hands. Suga stopped them before they got near Lonna and Jungkook.

After a short talk, Suga had convinced the boys to meet him in the school's underground parking lot. "If you want to act like rats sneaking around, then target me!" Suga screamed.

The four boys ran toward him. The first that made it stretched his pipe out aiming for a shot to Suga's stomach, but Suga expertly evaded it as he swirled around behind him.

The second boy instantly attacked, but Suga dodged him by turning and punching his pressure point in his neck. He dropped the pipe, giving Suga the chance to grab it. He struck the other two with it sending them to the ground.

One of the first two boys grabbed a pipe from the ground attacking Suga from behind as he fought hand to hand with the leader. Hearing the pipe Suga dodged and grabbed the boy's arm. With him still holding his arm, Suga shoved the end of the pipe into the leaders stomach and pushed him back, with the other boy forced to follow, since Suga had his arm.

Once he had the leader's back up against the pillar, he sprung himself into a back flip, using the tip of his boot to upper cut the leader. He caught the other with his heel on the way back down. Both boys collapsed to the floor. "I don't want to use violence, I hope this will be the last time." Suga stood in the middle of the defeated bullies as he spoke. "Next time for the people I love, you want to go to hell, I'll send you there!"

The fours boys scrambled to move. Suga didn't know what had motivated them to move so fast despite the pain they must feel, until the headlights blinded him.

The van swerved at the last minute, but it still hit him hard enough to send him flying into the parking lot wall behind him.
