Hotel Room

The silence of the empty house was interrupted as the sound of the phone ringing echoed through it. Pamela nervously licked her lips as the phone she held continued to ring with no answer.

Lonna’s POV

Suga held his jacket over his and Lonna’s head as they ran through the heavy rain. They quickly took shelter under a nearby store roof. As Suga tried to shake some of the rain off his coat, Lonna looked worriedly at her watch.

Pamela’s POV

Pamela felt like her heart was going to stop beating as she slowly hung up the never answered phone call. She held her cellphone tightly in her hands as she wondered why no one was picking up. “Are you calling home?” Mr. Min asked her.

Pamela was still lost in thought as she vaguely answered him. “Yea, but it seems they’re both out.”

“We should have brought him with us.”

Pamela’s eyes snapped wide open. “Huh?”

“Yoongi. He should be here to introduce himself.” For some reason Pamela’s mind drifted to more of grandmother’s words. Maybe because I’m old and think too much…those two kids…are about to be siblings in name, but when you get down to it, they’re not related by blood.

A feeling of dread came over her. “Honey, Lonna…” What she had to say was interrupted by Mr. Min’s cellphone ringing.

“Hold on, let me take this.” He said as he answered the phone.  “Hello?” Pamela listened curiously to him talk. “Huh?”

Lonna’s POV

Lonna wrapped her arms around herself and rubbed her arms, trying to warm herself up to stop her shivering. Her hair and clothes had gotten soaked regardless of Suga using his jacket as a shield. She lightly bounced up and down to keep her body moving, as she looked up and down the street. Suga ran up to her holding a container out to her. “This soup will warm you up.” His teeth chattered together as the rain that had soaked his body chilled him.

As Lonna grabbed the soup from him he tried to shake the water from his blonde hair with his cold hands. Hearing Lonna shiver, he opened his coat and pulled her against him, gently rubbing her arm, trying to warm her.

Currently, the area is receiving heavy rain. The newscaster’s voice came from the small tv just beside them.Every hour it rains more than 4 inches, causing serious disasters. The high tide has turned many places into water country. This heavy downpour has caused some trains to stop running. Reporting to you from the news. Suga and Lonna looked at each other worriedly.

Pamela’s POV

“Didn’t I assign it to you? Why wasn’t it taken care of?” Mr. Min said angrily. Pamela didn’t realize that she was holding her breath. She had listened, hoping it was Suga calling his father, but now she didn’t know how to feel that it wasn’t. Mr. Min looked sadly over to Pamela who was staring non-stop at her phone, as if she could will it to ring. “Okay, I’ll be back tonight.”

Since the phone hadn’t ringed like she had hoped, Pamela had dialed Lonna’s cell number. “Sorry.” Mr. Min said interrupting her and making her jump. She hung up the phone quickly. “There’s an emergency. I need to go back tonight.” He said apologetically.

“It’s ok. It’s work. Can’t be helped.” Pamela said trying to hide her emotions behind her smile.

“But…you don’t get to come to your mother’s very often.” Mr. Min said. “Do you want to stay an extra night and come back tomorrow?”

“No. I’ll go back with you. I’m a little about what’s happening at home.” Pamela couldn’t tell if this was a lucky opportunity or not, but she couldn’t pass it up. Her worries about Lonna and Suga had been making her sick, and part of her told her if she went home, then it would hold the answer to all her questions.

Lonna’s POV

Lonna once again hid under the shelter of Suga’s jacket as they made another run through the rain to the train station. Once they were inside, they were shocked to see the teller window barred up and no one behind it. Lonna watched as Suga walked over to a piece of paper that was taped next to the window. “Train is cancelled. Sorry for the inconvenience.” He read it out loud.

The sound of a bell came on over the intercom. “Travelers, because of the downpour, none of the trains are running. We are terribly sorry for the trouble it may cause you.” The bell dinged again to signal the end of the announcement.

“No way.” Suga said.

“What do we do?” Lonna asked.

Suga ran his fingers through his hair, to try and get the wet strands out of his face. “We wait. What else can we do?”

As time passed by, Lonna stood at the door and watched the rain fall, with no sign of letting up anytime soon. She was worried. The feeling of dread was creeping in and it was making her irritable. She walked over to Suga, who was sitting on the bench shivering and finally sat down beside him. “Are we really stuck here?” She said. “The weather was fine this morning.”

“Forget it. Let’s go.” Suga said taking Lonna by surprise.

“Where?” She asked.

Suga held his soaked clothes out in the station light for Lonna to see. “Some place to get dry. We can’t just wait here. Auntie comes home tomorrow. We just need to be home before them.”

“But…” Lonna said hesitantly.

Suga rolled his eyes as he grabbed her hand and forced her up from the bench. “Let’s go.” He dragged her to the door and put his coat over their heads. “If you stay here, you’ll catch a cold. I know there is a hotel up the road. We’ll dry off there.” They ran as fast as they could to find the hotel.

Later…

After paying, Suga lead Lonna into the room and threw his wet jacket on the chair. Lonna quickly sat on the couch as he picked up the bed cover and wrapped it around her to warm her. He sat beside her and continually shook out his soaked hair. “I think we should leave.” Lonna said. “Maybe the train will start running. Or we could find another place.”

“A place away from me?” Suga said as he blew hot air from his mouth on his frozen hands.

“That’s not…” Lonna started to say but stopped herself. She couldn’t deny that what he said was partially true. She was happy they were some place warm, but for some reason it felt like she was doing something wrong by being in the hotel with him alone. She worried about her mother and how she would react.

“Everywhere is the same.” Suga said as he took his Rolex watch off and dried the screen. “Whether it’s here or at home, it’s just two of us.” Lonna looked over at him as he started to try and dry his hair once more. She knew he was getting frustrated with her worries, but she couldn’t help it.

Krystal’s POV

Krystal folded her arms across her chest and stomped her foot on the floor angrily. “I won’t do it.”

“It’s decided.” Her father calmly said.

“Dad! You can’t be a dictator. I said I don’t want to.” She yelled.

Having had enough, her dad jumped up from his chair and walked up to his daughter. “Shut up.” Krystal leaned to make some space between them. “Regarding this, I have made up my mind.” Krystal could only watch him walk away, knowing it would be unwise to anger him further.

Hearing her phone ring, she looked at the caller ID. A smile came to her face as she saw who it was. “Hello? Lonna.”

Lonna voice shivered as she spoke. “Hello. Krystal.”

“What is it?” Krystal could tell by the sound of her voice something was wrong. Her eyes went wide as she listened to Lonna tell her that Suga was alone with her in the hotel room. “And then? Where’s Suga?”

“In the shower. I don’t know what to do.” Lonna said quietly.

“Lonna, listen to me.” Krystal said as she sat on her couch and put her knees to her chest. “Usually, I like to joke around with you, but right now, I’m telling you for real.”

“Ok.” Lonna said nervousness obvious in her voice.

“I don’t think…it’d be a bad thing…if you really like him.” Krystal said, trying to be careful of how she worded herself. Lonna looked over to the bathroom door as she listened to Krystal. “But, most importantly, you must make your own decisions. Definitely don’t do it, if you don’t want to. I believe, if you don’t want to, Suga will understand.”

Lonna felt like she couldn’t breath as her mind ran away with different scenerios. She stared frozen at the bathroom door. “Hello?” Krystal screamed trying to get her attention. “Are you listening?”

Lonna snapped out of her thoughts. “I…” She was having a hard time talking from her shortness of breath. “I got it.” Suddenly, she heard the doorknob twist and quickly hung up the phone. “Talk to you later. Bye-bye-bye.”

Lonna’s POV

Suga came out of the bathroom with just a towel wrapped around his waist, as he used the towel in his hand to dry his hair. Lonna quickly tried to hide her eyes with the blanket without trying to be too obvious. “Who was it?” Suga asked as he walked over to where the clothes he had bought at the souvenir shop next door laid on the bed.

I like Suga. That feeling will never change. Lonna thought as she went over the advice Krystal had given her. After getting his shirt on, Suga turned back to her. “What is it?” He asked seeing her lost in her thoughts.

“You hungry? There’s a store downstairs, we could eat.” Lonna said trying to avoid telling him how she was feeling.

“That…really doesn’t matter.” Lonna watched as he put his pants on while he still had the towel on him. She wondered if he was as nervous as she was being in the small hotel room with her, or if he even thought about how it would affect their parents.

If Suga and I really cross that line, I feel, afterwards, I may not be able to smile in front of mom. She felt horrible, she felt like just being in the room with him was a betrayal by itself.
