Apologies to the Devil
“Dad?!” The man said twirling excitedly to face her. “You’re already calling me dad?!”
He started running with arms now outstretched to Lonna who stood shaking with fear from being clung to in the same way she had witnessed with Suga. Suga wasted no time in running behind her pushing her down, just in time for him to be the one hugged instead of her.
“Stop harassing people, ok?!” He scolded his father.
“I couldn’t help it, she is as cute as her mother.” Suga’s dad said in his defense as he backed away.
“Didn’t you hear her yelling for help?” Suga asked sternly. The sudden realization hit Suga’s dad that he might have scared the girl.
“Lonna, hello, I promise to care for you like I do your mother.” He said as he knelt in front of a nervous Lonna. Suga watched his every move.
He stuck his hand out to Lonna in introduction. Lonna fearfully went to shake his hand but backed it away too scared to touch him.
“Oh come here.” Suga’s dad said ignoring her nervous nature again and started pulling her in for another hug.
“Would you stop being so disgusting!” Suga yelled at him. He was truly embarrassed.
“Disgusting?” Mr. Min said as he jumped up facing his son. He moved behind Suga and wrapped his arm around his shoulder, making Suga huff in annoyance.
“We are family. When you heard you were getting a sister, wasn’t it you that was beyond excited?” Suga’s eyes grew wide in shock of his father’s words.
“Shut up, old fart.” Suga threw his father’s arm off him. He walked away from him in embarrassment.
“Lonna, he was interested in you long before he found out.” He said lifting Lonna off the floor finally. “He asked me what major you were studying, your horoscope, your age…”
Suga bent to pick up the basketball he had used to save Lonna from his overjoyed father. His face turned red as he heard the conversation his father was having with Lonna.
“Beat it, you old fart!” He screamed as he again tossed the basketball towards his dad, but this time his father saw it coming, as he caught it inches before it could hit him in the face. The three was interrupted as a man in a business suit walked over to them.
“Mr. president, I finally found you.” He said as he bowed in respect.
“Get him out of here!” Suga screamed at the man who moved quickly to do as he was told.
“Sir, you are here for a meeting.” He said making the man shake his head in agreement. They slowly started walking away together. “When you dress like a janitor, it creates problems.”
“But it is fun.” Mr. Min said. “Anyway, let’s go to the meeting. Suga watched his father intensely as he turned back around.
“Na na!” He called Lonna’s childhood nickname instantly catching her attention. “I am sorry, I have to leave. OK, bye bye.”
Lonna smiled back at him awkwardly. She didn’t know how to feel about what had just occurred. She waved back at him, hoping with everything that he would finally leave.
Once he finally turned around she wiped the fake smile from her face and looked over at Suga, who was glaring daggers into his father’s back. She could tell he was mad, but she still took the chance to slowly walk up to him.
He watched her approach him with a confused face. “What?” he asked as she got in front of him. He couldn’t help but find her smile creepy.
“You and your father are really close.”
“Why do you say that?” Suga asked as if he was already annoyed by the conversation.
“I didn’t see you lose control.” Lonna said back. “Even this rebellious punk…can’t do anything against his father.” She smiled at Suga as she finally knew one of his weaknesses.
Suga looked at her in disbelief. “Don’t act like you know everything.”
Lonna’s face fell as the words she had said to Suga when she thought it was him that exposed the letter flitted through her mind. ‘Did making fun of me make you happy? ” Did it make you proud?” “You’ve never truly liked anybody, so you have no regard for the feelings of others.” Lonna hated it, but she had been wrong, wrong to assume she knew who Suga was and what his character was like. She stared into his dark brown eyes.
“Suga…I’m sorry.” Suga’s face softened at her saying those words.
“I assumed it was you who posted the letter, and I said a lot of hurtful things to you. I’m so very sorry.” Suga could do nothing but stare at her as she talked. “You have every right to hate me. I don’t expect you to forgive me, so I’ll let you beat me up.”
Suga’s face morphed into shock at her words. He stared at her face for any sign she was playing him, but she looked determined to keep her word. They stood quietly staring at each other.
Jin’s POV
Back in the gym, the rest of the basketball team were still tiredly practicing. Each member was taking turns to shoot the ball in a layup. After, the practice moved to a game amongst the players to work on their passing and guarding skills.
Once it was time to break, Jin walked over to his bag and pulled out his water bottle. He twisted the top open to relieve his dry tongue with the cool liquid. His eyes moved to an open pocket of his bag as he reached out to grab the two thin pieces of paper.
He thoughtfully looked them over. ‘If I was to ask Lonna out on a date, would she accept?’ he asked himself as he stared at the two concert tickets he had bought with Lonna in mind.
With the pieces of paper held tightly in his hand he raised up and turned to the team. “RM, where is the manager?” He asked hoping he knew where Lonna had gone.
“Lonna? She went out to get more drinks.” RM answered.
“She may need help carrying bags.” Jin said as he realized just how long Lonna had been gone. “I’ll go find her.” He said before quickly grabbing his team wind jacket and running from the gym.
“Hey wait! I didn’t get to finish what I was saying!” RM yelled after him.
“Suga has already went after her.” His screams went ignored as Jin flew out the door.
Lonna’s POV
With the bags of food and drinks forgotten, Lonna and Suga walked side by side towards the gym. “Are you…sure?” Suga asked her about her earlier statement.
“Yes, if I don’t let you do this, I am never going to be able to forgive myself.” Lonna said back confident in her decision.
“You know I could knock your teeth out.” Suga said trying to get her to admit she was too scared to go through with it.
“I don’t care.” Lonna said not falling for his scare tactic.
“Your face might get mangled.” Suga tried again.
“I know.” Lonna wouldn’t falter.
“Fine, let’s do it then.” Suga said as he stopped walking and turned to the girl beside him. Lonna breathed nervously as she turned to face him.
Jin ran as fast as he could to catch Lonna.
Suga stared at the girl in front of him, he saw fear on her face, but he doubted she was going to change her mind. “Close your eyes.” He told her. Lonna did as she was told as she scrunched up her face to ready herself for what was to come.
“Ready?” Suga asked as he looked back at the girl who nodded her answer. Suga tightened his hand in a tight fist and slowly raised it up. Lonna stood shaking from the fear of what was about to happen. Suga stared at the girl intensely as he continued to pull back his fist.
Jin took the set of stairs to the Gym building entrance two at a time in his hurry to get to the girl he was beyond excited to see.
