Accident

Seungwan screamed as she ran into the street. “Yoongi! Be careful!” Suga could do nothing but stare at the car. His brain told him to move, but his body stayed frozen. Lonna looked over just in time to see the car inches away from him.

Her body stiffened in fear as she watched. “Suga!” She screamed. Suga could feel his heart stop beating as he held his breath. Just as the car swerved, Seungwan wrapped her arms around him and used her body to push him as far away from it as she could. Suga landed not far from Lonna and Keun-suk. Seungwan fell by the curve.

Feeling a sharp pain run up her leg, she looked down. The sight of blood covering her hand, put them all in shock. “Seungwan!” Suga yelled as he ran to her. “What’s wrong?” Lonna and Keun-suk also gathered around. Seungwan winced in pain as Suga touched her leg. With all of them scared, Keun-suk told Suga to put her in his car, and he would drive them to the hospital. For once Suga didn’t want to argue.

Once they got to the hospital, Suga quickly picked Seungwan up in his arms, as the three of them ran into the emergency room. Suga and Keun-suk stayed in the waiting area, while Lonna took Seungwan back to be checked. As they waited, Suga refused to sit down. He stood by the wall beating himself up silently for what had happened. Noticing his distress, Keun-suk walked over and stood beside him. “She should be alright. It was an accident. Don’t blame yourself.”

Suga didn’t appreciate Keung-suk trying to comfort him. The anger he had forgotten came back to him. “Did I say I blame myself? You think too much. I don’t need your opinion.” Keun-suk frowned at Suga’s rude attitude towards him. Hearing heels click slowly down the hallway, they both looked in that direction.

Seungwan was hobbling down the hall with Lonna helping her. Both boys ran towards them. “What’d they say?” Keun-suk was the first to ask.

“There’s nothing wrong with her bones; just scrapes and bruises.” Lonna answered.

“That’s good.” He said relieved.

“Yoongi. Are you okay?” Seungwan asked concerned. “Are you hurt?”

“Cut the shit.” Suga said angrily. “I was pushed clear. You’re the injured one, right? Having a girl shove me, protect me, and get hurt for me…I’m not happy at all. Please don’t do this kind of thing again.” Seungwan let her head fall towards the floor in shame.

Even though Suga’s words are harsh, I can still detect the concern he has for Seungwan. Lonna thought as she tried to beat down the jealousy that was trying to take her over. Suga just stared at her.

After being discharged, The four of them walked out to Keun-suk’s car. “It’s late. Get in. I’ll take you home.” He offered. With his feelings toward Keun-suk still very full of rage, Suga quickly turned and walked away.

Lonna turned towards Keun-suk and gave him an apologetic look. “Keun-suk, take Seungwan home. I will go with Suga.” Hearing that, Suga stopped and waited for her. She walked over to Seungwan, before joining him. “Seungwan, if your leg hurts, take the medicine the doctor gave you; it’ll help you sleep.” She advised.

“I think I won’t be able to sleep tonight, because…I’m so happy.” She smiled brightly at Lonna, who’s was trying to keep from spilling out all her million silent questions.

“Happy?” She asked the question she felt would get her the best answer.

“I’m happy. Today, Yoongi and I went to eat ice cream.” The flower of jealousy started to bloom again in Lonna’s chest. She tried not to let the sadness show on her face, but she failed. “It was so tall; skyscraper tall kind of ice cream.” The look of shame came to Suga’s face. “We went to the beach. And talked about so much. I didn’t like chewing gum, but I had some today. I blew bubbles with it.” Finally, Lonna was able to manage a slight smile.

“If you’re going home with an injury, your parents will be concerned.” Keun-suk said to change the subject. He had noticed the distress on Lonna’s face.

“Right.” Lonna said with the worry evident in her voice. “We should come with an explanation, so they won’t blame Yoongi.”

“Okay. I’ll explain to Seungwan’s parents.” Keun-suk said hoping to make her worry less.

“Lonna!” Suga scream. Getting fed up with the conversation, and still not being able to handle his emotions.

“I’ll be going. Bye.” Lonna said before rushing to Suga’s side. Once she was in reach, he gripped the back of her neck and led her quickly away. Keun-suk had a look of concern on his face as he watched Lonna be dragged away.

Suga was silent as he pulled Lonna over to the next street, then he roughly let her go. “Can you stop meddling?”

Lonna quickly turned on him. “With Seungwan getting hurt, I can’t help but worry.”

“Why’d you have to bring me up?” Suga asked angrily.

Lonna frowned at his furious tone. “You don’t have to talk this way.” With the look on Lonna’s face, Suga felt bad. He couldn’t even look at her. “I did something you weren’t happy about. I asked for Keun-suk’s help. But he can be trusted. He’s more mature than us.”

“Not again.” Suga rolled his eyes.

Lonna started to pout. She hated when Suga was mad at her. “When something concerns you, I’ll be more nervous than normal. More worried, more confused than usual. Because I care about you.” Suga’s features softened as he looked over at her. “Don’t you know, when Seungwan went to your rescue, how worried I was?” Lonna stared at her feet, too embarrassed to look him in the eye. “I’m so scared you’ll be moved by her actions.”

All Suga could do was stare down at her, before he wrapped his arm around her neck and pulled her close to him, so they could walk again. Lonna smiled at the close contact.I’m more scared. Suga thought to himself. Scared that your and Keun-suk’s past will steal you away.

Back at home, the quiet of the house was interrupted as the phone started to ring. Pamela stopped what she was doing in the kitchen to run and answer it. “Hello? Mom. Okay. Hold on.” She held her hand over the mouth piece and yelled up the stairs. “Yoongi! Phone. Grandma wants you.”

Lonna’s face went pale as she heard her mom scream. Grandma is calling. She already knows about Seungwan’s injury. A million things ran through her mind. She followed Suga closely as he went down the stairs. She stood at the top as he took the phone from her mom.

“Hello? What?” I have a bad feeling about this. Lonna thought as she listened to his side of the conversation. “Why? Tell her family to take her home.” Suga said rudely. “Hello? Wait.”

Lonna gulped nervously as Suga loudly put the phone back in the charger and plopped down on the living room chair. She made her way over to the couch to sit down. “What did Grandma say?”

“She said she feels apologetic to Seungwan’s parents, because she got injured while she was with me. So I should escort her home from school.” He answered in an annoyed tone.

“Then please do.” Pamela said as she placed a tray of tea on the coffee table. “With what happened, her parents being worried is a given.” She frowned at Lonna as she sat next to her and ran her fingers through her hair. “Our Lonna will have to come home on her own. You’re more independent. Lend our Yoongi to cute Seungwan” Suga tried to hide the fact he was rolling his eyes. “Oh, Lonna. When you and Keun-suk went to the old house, how’d it go?” Suga’s eyes slowly moved over to Lonna. “Did the sweet feelings you had for him come back?”

Lonna bit her lip, unsure of what to say. She looked over in Suga’s direction just as he got up and stormed back upstairs.

Keun-suk’s POV

He pulled his car as close to the curb outside his house as he could. He stayed in the driver’s seat, as he continued to worry about Lonna and run his mind over all the questions that plagued him. Just as he was deep in thought a knock on his window made him jump. Jangmi stood on the other side waving sweetly at him. He sighed in frustration as she motioned for him to join her outside.

He laid his head tiredly on the seats headrest before doing what she asked. Once he had gotten out of the car, he walked around her and sat on the hood of his car. Jangmi sat next to him and crossed her arms over her chest. “I waited a long time.’ Keun-suk just stared at her. “Today you went out with your little girlfriend, reminiscing old times. So…did you have the courage to profess your love?”

He bit his lip as his sad eyes looked down at his hands. “Sort of.”

Jangmi’s eyes showed the fear she was trying to hide. “Then…did you get an answer?” She could feel her heart start to race.

“I don’t know.” Keun-suk said.

“Don’t know?” Jangmi asked slightly confused.

“Because a minor accident happened, we couldn’t continue our conversation.”

Jangmi hated to admit she slightly felt bad for him, but she had come to him for a reason and she needed to do what she had to for herself. “Then before you get your answer, I would like to tell you my decision.”

“What do you mean?” He asked.

“I know next Wednesday is Lonna’s birthday.” Jangmi took a deep breath to gather herself for what she was about to do. “So from now…until then, I won’t see you. Because I don’t want to influence your decision. But after that day, which is Thursday, beginning the stroke of midnight, I’ll give you a whole day, a total of 24 hours. I want you to think it through. Think through if we have a future.”

Keun-suk looked over at the woman he had been friends with forever and noticed for the first time the devastation on her face. “If we do, I know you will show me your sincerity. You will want me to stay.” Jangmi looked over at Keun-suk as she talked.

Keun-suk felt a mix of confusion and fear. “I don’t understand.”

Jangmi smirked at his words. “It’s not that you don’t understand, it’s that you don’t want to.” Keun-suk wouldn’t dare admit she was right as he sat silently. “From a friend to a lover, I’ve waited too long. If after the 24 hours, you still insist on not wanting to understand…” No matter how much she willed them not to, tears started to fall from her eyes. “Then I’ll understand. I won’t have anymore expectations for you. Keun-suk.”

Her small fragile voice forced him to look up at her. Without any warning she wrapped her arms around his neck and hugged him tightly. Keun-suk sat too stunned to move. Feeling saddened more by his lack of response, Jangmi quickly released him and walked away holding her head in her hands. He didn’t even try to stop her.
