Part 8

Sean and Connor listened closely from under the kitchen window, peeking discreetly to see Hank snap out defensively. "You can't just come in here without a warrant. Get your fucking asses out!" Gavin casually removed a piece of paper from his yellow folder, handing it smugly to Hank. Hank yanked it away from Gavin to look it over closely. Mark kept his eyes on the RK900 as it glanced around the kitchen, asking Hank curiously. "What is it?" Hank lowered the paper in disbelief, uttering his answer in a distant voice. "It's a Presidential Proclamation that allows this 'Replicant Task Force' to find and detain all androids known to be 'Deviant' for their own safety and that of the communities. They'll be taken to a designated homeless shelter, until the President's decision is made." Gavin flashed Hank a devilish grin, leaning over Hank's shoulder to say confidentially. "You should see your face. It's priceless. Now where is Connor?" Mark slammed a hand on the counter, snapping out. "That unethical! You can't round them up like cattle!"

The RK900 strolled up to Mark, menacingly backing Mark up against the wall as he told him firmly. "It's not unethical. They aren't human. They have no rights to anything yet. Right now, they are a danger to themselves and others. We simply want to give them a safe place where they can wait out this process. Evacuating Detroit of humans is no longer a feasible option. To keep the peace, this is the next best thing. We aren't rounding them up. We simply want to protect them. Have you not seen the riots for yourself, Sgt. Fischbach? Can't you see that we do this to protect each other during this time of tense transition?" Mark swallowed nervously, nodding in response. Across the room though, Hank waved the paper, snapping out. "Sounds like a load of horseshit to me, Buddy." Gavin puffed himself up as he moved to stand before Hank, asking hopefully. "Are you going against a Presidential order? Cause if you are, that means I have the right to arrest you for obstructing justice. And with the way the court system is backed up these days... You could be in there a while. You could lose your badge."

Hank handed the paper back to Gavin, gruffly stating out through clenched teeth. "That would just break your heart, wouldn't it? Go ahead. Look around. You won't find shit, Gavin. I told you. He's not here." Gavin slipped the paper back into his folder, stepping up closer to Hank to sneer out. "Oh, I know for a fact that he is. See, he never goes too far from you. You're too attached to him." Gavin stepped back with a grin, then told the RK900 coldly without looking at him. "Search the house. He's here somewhere. Find him, Dick." The RK900 dipped his head in acknowledgement, before moving away from Mark to investigate down the hallway. Hank watched Dick pass, before asking Gavin disgustedly. "You think naming your partner that is funny?" Gavin huffed, crossing his arms over his chest as he answered bluntly. "I think it was fucking clever. The Captain was getting annoyed with my 'name calling.' So, I simply told him that the can opener's name was Richard. Dick for short."

Hank shook his head with a disapproving look, muttering out. "What are you? Six?" Gavin pointed a finger at a picture on the wall, asking smugly. "How old was he? Six? Seven?" Hank's expression turned very dark. Hank's body language turned hostile, upon sharply retorting. "Don't you dare, Gavin. I'll fucking kill you." Gavin just grinned brighter in response. Mark stepped around Sumo, standing between them to say coolly. "Come on, guys. Let's keep this civil. Nothing personal." Gavin glanced over Hank's shoulder, asking aloud. "Dick? What did you find?" Dick stepped out of the laundry room, holding a freshly washed washcloth, answering promptly. "Thirium. Lots of it." Gavin raised an eyebrow with interest. Dick moved closer to them, gesturing to the kitchen table, informing Gavin simply. "I noticed some drops on the table and my UV vision revealed that Thirium had been cleaned from the floor. Investigating the laundry room confirmed it. An Android was injured here."

Hank shrugged casually, calmly telling them. "Ya, so what? Connor's tube got a little clogged. I fixed it. Then I sent him out to collect a few things for me." Gavin tilted his head, asking suspiciously. "What kind of things?" Hank huffed, dryly replying. "I'm working a case. I can't tell you shit. And even if I could, it's none of your god damn business." Gavin chuckled softly, eyeing Mark as he cooed out. "Oooo, He's so defensive... I don't know though. Sounds suspicious to me... What do you think, Sergeant? Can I trust him?" Mark stared into Gavin's eyes but didn't answer. Sean watched Mark nervously move his hands behind his back to stand at attention. Dick suddenly moved up behind Mark, grabbing his wrist and Connor had to keep Sean from jumping back through the window. Mark winced in pain, trying to yank his hand back. Dick held his wrist up, showing Gavin his hand as he told him seriously. "He's got dried Thirium on his hands. Been dry a few hours." Hank reached out to stop Dick, snapping out. "HEY! Let him go!"

Gavin snatched one of Hank's wrists before it reached Dick, looking over his clean hand. Hank stood very still, locking eyes with Gavin. Gavin released Hank, casually stating out. "Wasn't Connor's blue blood. Your hands would have been all over him. Plus, I recall another android being with you two at the station... An unregistered android, right? We'll need to see him too. Where are they, Hank?" Hank didn't answer. Sean watched Dick twist Mark's arm behind his back. Mark winced, shouting out nervously over his shoulder. "You can't hurt me. The laws of robotics forbid it!" Gavin tapped his folder against his lip with mock innocence, devilishly answering. "True. He can only threaten you with empty threats... However..." Gavin punched Mark in the gut without warning, causing Mark to groan loudly. Hank reacted just as quickly, punching Gavin flat to the floor. Dick reacted then, keeping ahold of Mark as he stepped in to grab Hank's wrist and flipped him to the floor.

Hank hit the floor on the flat of his back hard enough that Sumo thundered up behind Dick, tackling him to the floor with a vicious growl. Mark was dragged down across the floor with Dick, but Dick let him go to reach back to grab Sumo by the scruff of his furry neck. Sean rose to his feet with Connor in unison. The laws of robotics forbid the androids from hurting people, but it said nothing about animals. Dick flipped Sumo's large body over his back to throw him across the wooden coffee table. Sumo let out a yelp as his body weight broke the small coffee table. Hank rolled to his side, yelling out in horror as he reached for Sumo's whimpering form. "SUMO!" Both Sean and Connor moved back and jumped into the window in perfect unison. Rolling across the tile floor, Sean climbed to his feet and ran straight for Dick's back as he was getting to his feet. Connor ran past them all to check on Hank and Sumo. While Sean kept Dick from grabbing Connor by jumping on him and swinging his weight to slam Dick to the floor away from them.

Dick recovered fast, wrapping an arm around Sean's legs and rolling to his knees. Sean was forcefully dragged beneath Dick, giving him no other option except to raise his hands in his defense. Dick was so fast that his moves were hard to calculate in time. Dick kept a hold of his legs, starting to punch him with a strength that surprised Sean. Dick punched like a jackhammer and with practically the same strength as one! Sean watched his eyes flash with damage warning screens as his arms took damage to protect his face. Sean ignored the warning screens, calculating a move to counter him through the copied files on the police stations defensive training program. The file finally opened and presented him a counter measure. He took it. Taking one last hit, he grabbed Dick's wrist and twisted his body enough to force Dick to roll onto his back or lose his arm. Dick chose to roll. Sean laid his body over Dick's chest, his internal computer booting up as he connected to Dick. Instantly, Sean's computer began copying files and information that Dick knew.

Dick resisted to try locking him out internally, but it was no use. Sean's computer shattered through his firewalls and bypassed his defensive protocols. His internal computer had learned so much about Connor's system. Connor was only a prototype model, but he had learned enough about him that made breaking into the RK series that much easier to do. While downloading information, Sean noticed something weird in Dick. There was an inactive part of him... someone had put a lot of internal locks around a 'psychological adaptation profile.' He only recognized it because Connor's was active. It was the file that allowed him to adapt to Hank. To bond with him on a personal level. Without it, Dick had no interest in adapting to human behaviors unless it got him what he wanted. Reaching out, Sean touched the defenses and fought hard to break the locks. These security walls were unlike anything he had ever seen. They were strong. Practically screaming out from the hard effort, he heard lightbulbs and a TV shatter, before the locks finally broke.

Dick's system tried to shut down, but Sean's computer easily denied the function to finish downloading. Meanwhile, Sean's internal mind reached out to touch the inactive function. The pale skin of his hand fading away to reveal a smooth white plastic as he touched it. The large cube came to life at his touch and Dick's memories seemed to flood into the cube from other data files. Sean gawked as he saw flashes of Gavin ordering Dick around or talking about anything and everything. It was filtering the information and building a profile on Gavin. Sean saw bits of information from outside sources that showed Gavin had an abusive homophobic father. Sean was impressed by the way Dick could find any and all knowledge on Gavin's documented history. While Connor had to learn things the hard way from interacting with Hank. Sean wondered if he could learn more about Gavin, when his internal computer began disengaging from him. Sean gasped as his vision came back to the living room of Hank's house.

Sean released Dick, climbing to his feet. Hank was holding a tired looking Sumo across his lap, while Connor was keeping an eye on Gavin's knocked out body. Mark nudged him with an elbow, his hands busy holding an ice pack to his wrist. When their eyes met, Mark asked him curiously. "What did you do to him? The whole house went crazy. Did you send an EMP pulse through him or something?" Sean shook his head, answering a little distantly. "No... but I did find something. He was locked out of a system function. The RK900s don't appear to be physically capable of adapting to human behavior. They only follow commands that come in from a highly crypted code." Connor glanced at Hank, confirming softly. "Designed specifically to accomplish their mission without distractions. Hank... CyberLife made soldiers." Hank pet Sumo's head, answering seriously. "I told you. There is a fight coming. I can feel it. Someone at CyberLife is trying to start a war or end a revolution. I just don't know how YOU play into this." Hank pointed directly at Sean.

Connor drew the attention back to himself, upon asking curiously. "Hank, what do we do with him?" All eyes turned to Connor as he pointed down at Gavin. Hank chuckled, mumbling out only half-jokingly. "Cuff him to his android and throw him in the Detroit river?" Connor's eyes narrowed on Hank a bit disappointed with him for that, when he told him casually. "That's not funny, Hank. I'm serious. They'll wake up soon. We can't just let them go." Hank threw his hands up in frustration, snapping out. "Well, fuck! I don't know. Someone will come looking for them eventually. What would you have me do? You're the smart one, you figure it out!" Connor averted his gaze to the floor to think, before telling them. "I sound like Dick. If someone calls in, I can buy us some time?" Mark picked up the yellow folder that Gavin had dropped, informing them loosely. "I'll see what else he's got." Hank shrugged, nonchalantly blurting out. "I guess that means we're tying them up then. Jesus... This is going to look good on my novel of a record."

Hank removed a set of handcuffs from his back pocket, tossing them to Connor. Connor caught them as Hank gestured to Dick to say dramatically. "Now how the hell am I supposed to tie THAT thing up? I don't exactly have logging chains lying around." Connor looked around the room for something that might help, while Hank groaned about his back and needing some Tylenol. Mark was by the kitchen table, reading the files... When Sumo staggered weakly to his feet. Sumo's hackles raised and he limped a step or two forward with a deep growl. Sean turned his eyes down at the soft whirling sounds coming from Dick. Dick's computer had finished rebooting much faster than anyone had expected. Without a sound, Dick suddenly sat up. Glaring up at Sean with emotionless eyes. To Be Continued...
