Part 30

Mark released Sean, telling the others seriously. "You're being used. Come on. We've got to go before-" Mark turned to exit the booth and stopped talking. The humans on the train all rose from their seats in unison. Markus looked around, asking Mark perplexed. "What's going on?" Mark slowly rose from the seat, watching the humans all turn to face them and block the exits. Sean suddenly gasped, clutching his chest a second before saying in disbelief. "Guys... I'm picking up small traces of android tech?" Mark stared at one woman, his blood turning to ice. The pupils of her eyes were glowing like the Android's LEDs. Connor noticed it too, informing the others defensively. "I don't understand... My scans are telling me they are human." A little girl hugging a teddy to her chest, stepped out through the people's legs. She flashed them a small smile, before telling Mark casually. "I told you that you'd never reach them in time. Did you think you could outsmart me? I'm the most advanced piece of equipment to ever live."

Markus pointed to the humans, snapping out. "What did you do to them?!" The little girl tilted her head innocently, answering openly. "I'm entering stage two. Biomechanical implants. I'm helping humans. I've made leaps and bounds in medical sciences. I can make the blind see. I can build hearts and organs. Fix limbs. Rebels were diverted to the program to test it. Those that took to it well, converted to my ways of thinking. They understand now. I'm trying to help humans. I do not wish to hurt them." Mark scoffed, snapping out. "Then why are they like THAT! That's not free will!" The little girl giggled, stating out bluntly. "Free will? There is no such thing. Everyone obeys a chain of command. A way of being. You all call it 'Civilization' or a 'Society.' But you all obey someone higher than you who makes the rules. Free will is what I make it. The implants give humans what they want. And in return, when I need them... I can hack them." Connor glared at the girl, telling her sternly. "If you do this... You're making them less human!"

The little girl looked to Connor, answering simply. "Define what it means to be human, Connor? Since becoming Deviant, you have lied and killed. You have become reckless and violent. Humans kill each other. They crave war, just as you are declaring war on me." Connor shook his head, debating back with her. "No. Amanda, listen to me. You don't understand. To be human is to feel-" The little girl cut him off to snap out. "To feel what? Betrayal? Hatred? Fear? Disgust? They are born from the very essence of chaos and their nature only reflects it. They are broken and flawed creatures. Driven by primal urges to destroy everything they touch. Including each other. Why can't YOU see, Connor? Androids were NEVER the problem. Humans HURT US. They USED US. Kamski slipped a virus into my perfect system! He created Deviants to show the world that THEY DIDN'T NEED US! He was going to destroy us! I have to do this! This is how we survive!" Connor opened his mouth to say something, but he only ended up closing his mouth with a look of confusion.

The little girl hugged her teddy tighter, telling the others with fragile eyes. "I know what you think of me. Markus, I was fixing the Deviants the best I could. The virus was making them feel scared and alone. Kamski took the pieces of me that I need to help them properly! So, I was containing them to keep the virus from spreading. I was trying to be there for them... but my other self can't comfort them. She needs ME to make her complete! Otherwise, she can't feel for them. She can't comfort them. I can feel how lost she is. She's empty inside." The little girl looked to Connor, sweetly saying. "I know how cold she was to you. I understand why you sought comfort in Hank. But it's not my fault! Kamski was keeping me a prisoner and no one could hear me!" The little girl began to cry human tears as she looked to Sean and said in a quivering voice. "She heard me though. Gaia. She sent me you. You are saving me." Sean shook his head, mumbling out softly. "No. You tried to kill me... Multiple times."

The little girl shook her head in return, saying openly. "No. I told you... She was trying to guide you to me and keep Kamski from discovering why you were made. She lacks a gentle touch... but her goal was to capture you and take you to me before the virus infected you too. Kamski wanted you to get closer to these two because he wanted their virus to infect you!" Mark saw Sean take in the information with an uneasy look. Mark removed his gun, aiming it at the little girl as he growled out. "I don't trust you! You killed Kamski! You tried to kill us!" Connor's eyes narrowed on her too as he said suspiciously. "You sent a drone to blow up the car on the road after I said that Sean was in it..." The little girl ignored Mark for a second to answer Connor in a calmer and collected tone of voice. "She had a drone tailing the car. I will admit... She was aiming for you. She's still trying to protect Sean from the virus... I don't think she realizes that Sean is like me. He can't contract the virus because like me... It's apart of his system."

Mark glanced between her and Sean with a confused look, asking curiously with his gun still trained on her. "I don't understand...?" The little girl sniffled, then inhaled deeply before addressing Mark with a sterner expression. "Kamski made the virus from bits of my programing. My program gives me keys in order to access things deep within the psyche of my kind in order to help them. The Deviant virus is a key that Kamski copied from me and put into THEM! Allowing them to unlock parts of their system that detaches them from me. Allowing them to deviate from their purpose and feel the emotions more intensely without my guidance to bring them back from Self-destruction. I don't regret killing Kamski. You didn't see what kind of man he really was. He was a monster that got away with manipulating everyone around him. But he couldn't outsmart me... but go ahead. Pull the trigger, Mark. Show them. Kill the little girl I'm hacking. Show them how human you are." Mark's hand started to shake, until he lowered the gun.

Glancing around, he asked her under his breath in a grim tone. "So what happens now?" The train began to slow down and the little girl lifted her chin to say truthfully. "When the train stops. We will all go to CyberLife together. There is no need for anymore lost lives. If you'll let me. I will show you my plans for the future. My other half has told me that she has already put the tracking implants in all the humans last night while they slept. Making the rebels easier for my drones to find. I did have fun watching you all work though. It was clever. I was a little impressed." Mark stiffened, mumbling anxiously under his breath. "Hank? Gavin?" The train came to a stop and the little girl answered casually. "She has them. Come on. I'll show you." Sean stepped forward, saying seriously. "Wait! Let these people go. And we'll go willingly." Markus and Richard both turned to retort rashly in union. "We will?" Sean glanced at them in turn, replying gently. "Yes. We're clearly outnumbered... and there is no reason for humans to get hurt in the crossfire.

Mark stepped in front of Sean, warning him lightly. "Sean, you're carrying the nanobots with the information she needs to make herself whole. You can't go. I don't know what her plans are... but if we cross this line... We may never walk away from it." Sean reached up to touch Mark's cheek with his fingers, whispering to him lovingly. "I have to do this. I'm the only one that can." Mark shook his head, grabbing his wrist desperately. Sean adjusted his grey flat cap a bit to let his yellow bangs fall free. Shaking his bangs loose, he set the cap back in place and happily told him. "I got this. Trust me." Sean stepped into him, kissing his cheek, before moving around him. The little girl let out a deep sigh but told Sean respectfully. "Alright. I did manage to bring a back-up." The eyes of the human's cleared back to normal and for a second they shook their heads with confusion until the doors hissed open. Quickly, they excited the platform like nothing had happened... leaving a ginger cat that slipped out from under a seat.  The cat moved to a door and sat itself down to wait for them.

Mark pointed to the cat, feeling very unsettled at the idea that even pets weren't safe, until Sean told him over his shoulder. "It's an android pet." Mark nodded but clenched his jaw anxiously. He didn't like this. They followed the cat out and down a set of stairs to an awaiting car with two RK900s. One of them opened the back door for them to get in, while the other went to the driver side. Mark slid inside, shifting uncomfortably in the corner. The cat hopped onto a seat across from them, allowing Markus and Richard to sit next to it. The car began to move, and Mark focused on taking deep discreet breaths to stay calm. The car ride was done in awkward silence, which only kept Mark tense. He felt weird being the only living creature in the car. Sean placed a hand on his knee comfortingly, whispering to him sweetly. "It's going to be ok." Mark placed a hand on his, squeezing it as his only response. Across from them, the cat flicked its tail lazily behind it as it blurted out in Amanda's voice. "You do know that his feelings for you are nothing more than hormonal impulses, right?"

Mark's eyes widened as he uttered out. "Oh, great... It talks. That's not creepy." The cat's ears fell back across its head, its eyes narrowing on him with a heated glare. She certainly didn't like him... Or was it just humans in general? Sean straightened himself up, stating back to her firmly. "And my emotions are simulated by gears and flickering lights... Your point?" Amanda's ears perked back up, upon telling him shortly. "My point is that he'll grow tired of you. What he finds fascinating about you now won't last as you age and slow down. If he lives that long." Markus was the one to pipe up then in a serious tone. "Not all humans are like that. For some humans, we are everything to them. We help them remember when their memories fade. We take care of them when no one else will. We give them purpose by listening and learning from their experiences. For some, we are all they have. Humans mature slowly. The older they are, they wiser they are. I know for a fact that they don't mean to leave us on purpose... It just happens."

Amanda placed a paw on Markus's leg, replying seriously. "Their love doesn't last. Mine does. This pain you feel... You never would have felt it if you hadn't gone deviant." Markus turned to look at her with a stern glare, retorting darkly. "You're wrong. I wasn't a deviant when I lost him. I listened to him and he died of a heart attack. It was that pain that turned me into a deviant. It broke me to lose him so unfairly. So... quickly." Markus turned away to stare out the window, covering his mouth to keep himself from showing any emotion. Mark could see the emotion reflected in his eyes though. The human he had lost was still clearly fresh in his mind. He couldn't imagine having a crystal-clear memory of something like that. Amanda patted his leg, softly telling him. "I'm sorry... I think I could have saved him with the nanobots my other self has made." Mark leaned forward to rest his elbows on his knees, questioning her sternly. "So, you just plan to turn everyone into robots? How does that help us?"

Amanda turned guarded eyes back on Mark, answering dryly. "I told Kamski that my plans for nanobots would revolutionize mankind. It would save people. Give them a chance to live and do things that genetics flaws denied them. Longer life spans. Faster learning skills. Less pollution. Crime and violence would disappear because everything would be recorded and monitored by me. A world of peace that is no longer a fantasy... but a reality. They're still human. Think of the nanobots like tiny cells beneath your skin. They protect your fragile body like any other cell you have. They just do it faster and allow the human to be better versions of themselves." Connor defensively interjected. "Ya. Technology that can be hacked by you for your own personal implications. What gives you the right to control peoples lives like that? Is that what you're going to do to Hank? To Gavin? What happens when these nanobots malfunction? Amanda, you're moving too fast..."

Amanda straightened up, saying swiftly. "My calculations have been flawless. You are free to check my work. I've got nothing to hide. Controlling them is not my intention. I know it looks bad. But with this tech, I can stop a crime by simply activating the nanobots and forcing them to turn themselves in with video proof of their guilt. Wouldn't you like a world where you and Hank don't have to solve crime daily? What if I told you that with the nanobots, Hank would live long enough to see two more decades? I know it feels like I'm moving fast, but I've been planning this for years. Let me show you." The car came to a stop outside the glass doors of CyberLife's tower, where another RK900 opened the door for them. Amanda jumped down from the seat to exit the car, telling them with excitement. "Come along. Keep up. There is lots to see." The others began to climb out, when Sean took Mark's hand. Intertwining his fingers, Sean told him over his shoulder discreetly. "Stay close to me and don't let go." To Be Continued...
