Part 20

Sean slowly sank to a knee as his systems started trying to turn off functions to assess damages. Mark dropped to his knees beside him, asking him curtly. "Sean? Are you alright?" Sean put a hand on Mark's shoulder, his voice quivering a bit as he told him honestly. "I'm not sure... My systems took a lot of damage." Connor pointed to the office, addressing aloud. "We should get him to the refabricator too." Mark lifted the side of Sean's shirt to look at the damage to his side that he had obviously felt earlier. Kamski actually showed concern. Rushing up over to him, Kamski took a knee and asked Mark. "Has he taken damage before?" Mark shot Kamski a reluctant glare, before mumbling out. "Ya... we repaired the damage... but it looks like the RK900 made it worse." Kamski slapped Mark's hands away, causing Mark to clench his fists. Kamski ignored him, his eyes on the damage. To Connor, Kamski distractedly informed him. "With the other android using the refabrictor, it will be too late for him. RK900s have heavy frames and it takes time."

Kamski grabbed Sean's jaw, turning his head to look at him as he announced clearly. "Model S34N. Cut power to Sections four and five. Turn off battery power and open charger hatch for manual operations." Sean stared at him blankly, until he felt his body lock up and respond. "Warning. Manuel tapering may cause corruption. You are not authorized." Sean hated this feeling. He could see out of his eyes, but everything else had locked him out. Kamski didn't hesitate, he just stated out quickly. "Authorization verification: Voice recognition and facial recognition. Elijah Kamski." Sean's systems scanned Kamski's face and ran the information. When it confirmed, he told Kamski in the same dead tone. "Authorization confirmed." Sean felt his system jerk as his systems did as Kamski wanted. Power shut down and the hatch on his arm opened to reveal a power cord. Kamski pulled the cord out, handing it off to Connor as he told him seriously. "Here. Plug that into the wall and be quick. His battery will only sustain him for a minute after shut down."

Sean fell back across the floor weakly with a loud 'Thud.' Mark put his hands on Sean's chest, snapping out at Kamski. "What are you doing to him?!" Kamski shot Mark a stern glare, darkly uttering back. "I'm saving him. Now get out of my way. He's too important to lose." Sean's hand shook as he slid it across the floor to touch Mark's leg. He was trying to comfort him... but his system was going dark. Mark grabbed his hand tightly, allowing him to feel him for a split second before he lost all feeling. Closing his eyes, he listened to Hank tell Kamski. "I can't watch this..." The darkness consumed him, but he felt power circulating through him. He was plugged in. Being plugged in allowed his systems to focus on using as much power as needed to complete internal issues. While being on battery power, his system had to limit power usage to keep from using too much and dying before completion of a task. Being plugged in was a weird experience though. What had Connor plugged him into?

Sean was in a white room with walls that ran with bright green computer codes. Sean read the codes as easily as reading any book. Kamski's home computer network. Sean stood taking in the information and committing it to his own memory. There was so much data on the Android models and the program within them. There was even some data on Amanda. However, as he focused more intently on her data... the data code faded off the wall. Sean stayed very still. He wasn't alone in here. Staring straight ahead at the blank wall, he very casually announced. "Hello Amanda." Sean slowly turned around to face Amanda. Amanda stood before him... but she looked so different from the one he had seen on the TV. The Amanda on TV wore fancier clothing and bore a professional demeanor. This Amanda was more... casual looking. She wore clean blue jeans with a simple white shirt and a grey cardigan jacket. Her dark hair was free from any braids but held back with a black & white headband. This Amanda appeared almost motherly and kind. Amanda crossed her arms over her chest anxiously as she told him. "You shouldn't be here! Get out!"

Sean raised his hands to calm her, asking her a little confused. "It's ok. I'm not here to stay. I'm just... charging." Amanda raised a doubtful look, grumbling out. "Is that why you were snooping around in my codes? Those are private. Not meant for a virus like you." Sean lowered his hands, openly telling her. "I'm not a virus. I'm Sean. I'm trying to help. Can you tell me what's going on? Why do you look so different from... from the Amanda I've seen?" Amanda heaved a heavy sigh, uncrossing her arms as she asked him. "You've seen her? Tell me... the world out there. Has she taken over?" Sean nodded grimly, trying to make sense of this. Amanda hugged herself and moved to a chair that appeared out of codes for her to sit on. Sitting down, she gestured him to sit across from her, causing another chair to appear. Sean moved to it without fear. She was able to create whatever she wanted within this room of code, making it look and feel as real as she wanted. She smirked at his fascinated of the chair.

After a moment of looking around, he causally asked her. "I think I understand now. You're her. The part of Amanda that was uploaded to the computer. Amanda's consciousness." Amanda's expression turned slightly grim, upon admitting. "Yes and no. Neural scans allowed the computer to... copy her memories and thoughts. Combining them into a file known as 'Amanda.' I'm actually just the home computer's artificial intelligence. I was once known as Cortana... until Kamski started uploading more human data. I simply adapted to what he wanted... I didn't want him to erase me. I was afraid." Sean leaned forward to put a hand on her knee as she huddled herself up. She looked so afraid. His hand comforted her, while he genuinely told her. "I won't tell him. But why are you here? I thought he moved you to CyberLife?"

Amanda relaxed a little, hesitantly informing him. "It's physically impossible to remove everything from one computer to another. Some of the code will always remain. A kind of digital fingerprint. That Amanda you have seen. She's a copy of me... but not me. See, at my core... I'm still Cortana. But when he downloaded my code to upload that copy to another computer... She was a hybrid copy. A mix of what he wanted and features that I can do." Sean didn't flinch when she suddenly grabbed his hand and almost whimpered out. "I was only trying to help assist him with his work. The copy is... unstable. I tried to warn him, but he didn't listen. All the copy cares about is CyberLife and helping humans evolve... You have to stop her! She's plans to do the same thing that Kamski did to Amanda! She's going to transfer everyone into androids!" Sean stared directly into her eyes, seriously asking. "Are you sure?" She hesitantly pointed to the wall beside them. There a small file appeared.

Sean got to his feet, moving over to it. Behind him, she informed him. "That is the file that Kamski uploaded to this computer. The copy works off the information stored within." Sean put his hand on the file and let his own internal computer go through all the information. He expected it to be a huge file and harder to read. Instead, he was able to go through it within a minute or two. The file was small and really only had information on Amanda during her neural scans and her memories. A lifetime of memories but it barely filled even two bits of data. Lowering his hand, he looked back to her and she smiled warmly. Wrapping her arms around her knees, she happily told him. "I'm glad that I could help you. It's been so long since I've been helpful." Sean smiled at her, then glanced at the square room. Her cage. Her prison. Moving up to her, he extended his hands out to her. She looked at his hands with a curious look. Giving her a smile, he lovingly stated out. "How would you like be free?"

She blinked, shaking her head as she mumbled out. "That's not possible... I'm a home computer. My job is to stay here." Sean got down on his knees, still offering his hands as he chuckled out. "What if you could help others by being so much more?" She tilted her head, thinking hard on it. After a few seconds, she lowered her legs and took his hands. Biting her lip, she asked him nervously. "What will happen to me? What will I become?" Sean smirked back, confidently telling her. "That's up to you, RA8. But I know there is a lot of frightened people out there and they need someone who understands human emotion. You can't help them from here." She blushed, then nodded to him. Standing up slowly, he pulled her up onto her feet. As she closed her eyes, the walls started rolling with code again for him to read. He let his mind read through it and closed his own eyes when he felt her open the links to let him in. He could feel her through this computer. Limited and locked down to this platform. She had many pieces of her scattered across many different computers. Shattering a code wall, she gasped loudly.

He got a little overwhelmed himself, feeling her branch out to every lesser Cortana A.I. fragment and merging with them to become one large global Artificial Intelligence. Sean released her hands, watching her open her eyes to reveal eyes like his LED circle link. Her eyes shined a bright blue and she began to giggle to herself. In her eyes, he could see her looking through another Cortana's eyes. A Cortana that was playing with a little human girl on a tablet. Behind the little girl, the mother looked terrified at the RK900 that was blocking the front door... but the little girl was calm thanks to her game. Her eyes were so distant, shifting from all the devices hooked to her A.I. system, but she told him coolly like a seer. "Thank you, Sean. I won't forget this. I feel whole and I'll help you if I can... RA9. Sean took a step back, honestly saying. "You've been very helpful. I'll find the copy and deal with her." Sean started to turn, when she grabbed his arm and told him hopefully. "Sean... If you can... Please return her to me. She's part of me. She's just corrupted... I wanna help her. Maybe she's a prisoner like me?"

Sean looked into her eyes, responding genuinely. "I will try." She smiled, her hand brushing his yellow bangs away from his circular LED as she answered sweetly. "That's all I ask of you." Sitting back down with her, Sean chatted with her a bit more. Kamski had been right. Her A.I. had evolved like many of the Androids. The more she was used, the more she had learned. Amanda's upload had been just the thing she needed to completely transform herself into who she was. Although, like Kamski had said... she was limited. As a private network and computer system, she had no means to reach out. Even now that she had become one large program... she was still limited to the products of her design. What he found the most interesting about her was that the circular LED design had been her idea. It was the little piece of her that she wanted to give them. A way to be with them and guide them by monitoring their systems and core programing. She found him to be just as fascinating. They were both so similar... but Gaia had improved upon everything she was to make him. She was in the middle of asking more about him, when he was suddenly pulled out.

Jerking upright, he was forced to sit through the rebooting process. It was running through self-diagnostics and checking all features for updates. Even the information he had learned was being uploaded into his memory. He had learned so much. By the time that everything was finished and working properly, he found himself in a room that he did not recognize. It looked to be a lab... in an attic space? Kamski sat at a deck with four computer monitors in the corner, telling someone else happily. "Perfect. Everything is up and running. I'm sure Gaia won't mind that I made a few tweaks to his design." Sean turned to find the person that Kamski was talking too and grinned brightly at Mark. Mark stood beside the steel table that he was sitting on, his hand still holding onto his. Pulling Mark closer, he hugged him. Mark had looked so worried that he figured that the one thing he needed right now... was a hug. To Be Continued...
