Part 16

Mark let out a startled yelp that was muffled by Sean's lips. Sean liked the strange contact between them. Mark's heart rate spiked enough that Sean's sensors alerted him. Pulling his lips away, he asked him with concern. "Am I frightening you?" Mark took a jagged breath, his voice barely a whisper when he answered. "No... I just... Didn't expect you to kiss me back." Sean tilted his head slightly, staring deeply into Mark's brown eyes. He became almost transfixed by him. Usually if he looked into the eyes of someone like him, he could read them. He could link with them. With Mark, he could only see the details of his eyes. Sean lowered the volume of his voice to match Mark's softer tone, before asking him curiously. "Why wouldn't I want to kiss you?" Mark cleared his throat, leaning back an inch or two more as he stated out in a nervous voice. "Because you're only supposed to kiss the people that you have strong feelings for..." Sean rose off the chair, leaning over Mark to brace his hands on the bed.

Mark retreated from him more, but his heart was suddenly beating at a steadier pace. Sean brought his lips closer to Mark's again, whispering to him sweetly. "Does that mean that you have strong feelings for me?" Mark swallowed, his body laying completely back against the table now. Without looking away from him, Mark's voice turned breathlessly wispy upon replying. "I... Yes." Sean blinked slowly to try and calm Mark down, then whispered to him casually. "I thought you were afraid of me?" Mark's heart skipped a beat in response. His cheeks turning a soft red as he mumbled out without looking into his eyes now. "You have your moments... but at times you are just so... human." Sean raised an eyebrow as a smile spread over his lips. The comment touched him in a way he didn't quite grasp. Biting his lower lip briefly, he brought his lips over Mark's. Keeping his lips close, he sweetly whispered to him breathlessly. "Thank you." Mark nodded, unconsciously leaning up just enough to kiss him again.

Mark's hand went to his cheek, his thumb stroking along Sean's cheek structure. The gesture had surprising effects on him internally. For a split second, Sean thought his heart might stall. Sean knew he was anything but fragile... but Mark treated him like he was. His kiss and touch so soft, that for the first time Sean felt... wanted. Mark's lips parted from his but lingered close by. Sean found himself leaning into Mark's hand, listening to him tell him in a deep emotional tone. "Sean... You're not a glitch. You were made for a reason and I'll help you find it." Sean rose up more over him, informing him with a smile. "You already did. I'm going to register you as my primary user." Mark's eyes widened in shock. Sitting up on his elbows, Mark's voice was tinged with concern when he asked. "Are you sure you want to do that? You barely know me..." Sean nodded confidently, replying honestly. "I trust you. You've helped me get this far." Mark chuckled uncertainly with a look of doubt. Sean leaned down to brush his lips over his, adding just as confidently to him. "You protect me, and I'll protect you."

Mark looked up into his eyes, his expression contorted in confusion as he asked. "But why me? Why not Hank or Gavin? You're free... Why tie yourself to someone like me?" Sean tilted his head enough that his yellow bangs fell over one of his eyes. Flashing Mark a warm smile, he openly told him. "Because... You make me feel... alive. I have purpose in your eyes. I'm still free... I just don't want to be taken away. I want to be wanted. To be needed." Mark lifted his other hand to put the black baseball cap back on his head, grinning as he told him affectionately. "Well, I need you." Sean chuckled, standing up straight to fix his hat and hair. Mark stared at him with sudden fragile eyes, distantly opening up to him in a pained voice. "I didn't know I needed you... until I met you." Sean sat on the edge of the table, putting a hand on Mark's. Mark glanced down at their hands, telling him in a shaky voice. "I know how you feel... I became a cop to help people... but every person that I help, just turns out to hate me for one reason or another. They want me to save them, but they hate me for doing my job... Can make one feel... unwanted."

A drop of water rolled down Mark's cheek, but his eyes rose to lock with his. Sniffling softly, Mark added in a broken voice. "That day at the riot... No one would have done what you did. You saved my life... I've spent my whole career always trying to be the hero, but it never occurred to me that someone would save me." Sean pushed the bill of his hat up enough to press his forehead to Mark's. Squeezing his hand gently, Sean comfortingly whispered to him. "I think I understand... You all wanna feel wanted too." Mark wrapped his arms around Sean, hugging him close. Sean wrapped his arms around him and just to make him feel more comforted... he turned up his body temperature to give him a literal warm hug. Mark sniffled in his arms, chuckling out in a lighter deep tone of voice. "I thought only nurse androids could give warm hugs?" Sean snuggled his face against his neck, promptly stating out with pride. "I'm unique and I understand my purpose much better now." Mark pulled away a bit to eye him with suspicion, before asking gently. "You figured out your purpose? What is it?"

Sean smiled back at him, answering in a loving tone of voice. "My purpose is to handle, guide, advise, and protect... both Androids and Humans from mental self-destruction." Mark huffed with a small chuckle, mumbling out playfully. "And I thought my father's shoes were hard to fill... That's a heavy job." Sean stroked his fingers along Mark's light beard, chipperly retorting. "Good thing I'm built to handle it." Mark shook his head with a smirk. Sean adjusted his hat again, getting it just the way he liked it. As he lowered his hand, Mark put a hand on his arm, curtly telling him with loving eyes. "But Sean... if that burden ever gets too heavy to bare... You'll let me know, won't you? I know I'm not perfect... but I can try to help you." Sean nodded, before Markus's firm voice made Mark jump with surprise. "Touching. A human falling for an android. Not the change I had in mind, but progress. Is your human ready for travel?" Mark sat up more, defensively asking aloud. "Travel? To where? What's going on?"

Markus folded his arms behind his back, casually saying aloud. "You didn't tell him yet?" Sean stood up, feeling a bit protective as he retorted. "I was going to." Markus waved a hand dismissively at Sean. It was a gesture that requested him to be silent and not worry... but Sean found it strangely insulting. Did he think that he couldn't tell him himself? Did he find him inadequate? Markus stepped up to the end of the bed, informing Mark quickly. "Your friend here has provided us with information that is devastating to your people. We believe the RK900s are replacing androids. While any deviants are being captured and contained. Someone is making a move on Detroit. I'm thinking a hostile takeover. Myself and a select few are going to visit Kamski. I believe he is a player in this game." Mark looked to Sean, asking in a worried tone. "Hank and Gavin? Do they know?" Sean didn't get a chance to answer, before Markus pipped in commandingly. "We have told no one outside this facility. I'm afraid it would be too much of a risk for those living here."

Mark scoffed loudly, snapping back. "We can't just not tell people about this?! What about the innocent humans that are being put at risk?!" Markus stared down Mark, stating in a more authoritative tone. "And what would you like me to do? Right now, we have theories and assumptions to go on. No physical proof. As a cop, I'm sure you know what that means." Mark's mood deflated. Markus then turned his attention on Sean, adding with a slightly defensive tone. "The only reason that I even want you to tag along is because I want to figure out what side you are on. I don't know how you fit into this game... but I'll figure it out. And for your sake, I hope you're on our side." Mark shot a stern glare at Markus, sneering in. "Don't talk to him like that! He's on your side." Markus turned emotionless eyes on Mark, seriously retorting. "Is he? He's an unregistered model that just... escaped CyberLife. He's caused irreparable damage to my campaign with the humans. And now... I'm starting to think that CyberLife has sent another assassin to destroy me."

Sean blinked with confusion as he mumbled out. "You think I was sent to kill you? Why?" Markus locked lifeless eyes on Sean, sternly uttering under his breath. "It wouldn't be the first time. Connor admitted that someone hacked him to try and assassinate me at the rally. Though he can't remember who. Fortunately, Connor was able to regain control. But it has made me more cautious. For all I know, government security could have been behind it." Sean sorted through Connor's memories, but found nothing on it. It was just a blank spot that lead to him putting his gun away at the rally. It was almost like... something big had been erased from his memory. Without Connor physically here, he couldn't verify it. Straightening up to his full height, Sean told them both seriously. "I need to see Connor. I might be able to find out who hacked him if I can go deep enough into his memory core." Markus raised an eyebrow, defensively stating out. "No. I don't want you connecting to anything. Your little outburst in the tunnel... You set off a small EMP. You're dangerous."

Mark stiffly climbed to his feet, limping up beside Sean to put a hand on his shoulder. Sean lowered his eyes from Markus to look at Mark's hand. Mark squeezed his shoulder as he grumbled out darkly. "In other words. You're afraid of what he can do. You want us to leave? Just say the word and we are gone." Markus made a show of inhaling deeply, before telling him firmly. "You've seen too much. So, for now. You are coming with us. We are leaving in exactly two minutes." Mark blew a raspberry a little while after Markus had turned on his heel to leave. Sean continued to watch Markus stroll down the tunnel, discreetly muttering under his breath to Mark. "He just wants to protect his people... but my scans believe he is... hiding something. Mark, I don't think he was being completely honest with us." Mark leaned on him a bit more for support, chuckling over his shoulder just as discreetly. "Little life tip, buddy. I've never known any leader that tells the whole truth. They all lie to get what they want in the end." Patting his shoulder comfortingly, Mark slipped in more tenderly. "We'll keep an eye on him. Just in case."

Sean wrapped an arm around Mark's waist to help him walk out. Sean didn't want to take Mark. He wanted him to recover. However, Mark was stubborn. More importantly, he trusted him. They met up with Markus in a tunnel far from the others, where a car was waiting for them. Markus had changed his look slightly to hide his face and any distinguishing features. Popping open the trunk, Markus gestured to the space. Mark huffed darkly, grumbling out. "Fuck that! You're not stuffing me in the trunk like some damn mafia lord!" Markus crossed his arms over his chest, peering at them through his dark sunglasses. When neither of them moved, Markus sighed out with frustration. "You don't have a choice. There is not enough room in the car for everyone and you two are wanted! Now hop in the trunk, before we lose our window of opportunity." Mark groaned, muttering profanities as he stiffly climbed into the trunk. Sean waited until Mark was comfortable, before slipping himself in behind him.

The trunk was big enough to be semi-comfortable... but still snug. Markus slammed the trunk lid, sending the entire trunk into a pitch-black darkness. Mark cleared his throat awkwardly, mumbling to himself in the dark. "So glad I'm not claustrophobic..." Sean rested his head on his bent arm, his other hand discreetly touching Mark's lower back. He had night vision that had kicked on shortly after the lid shut. Allowing him to see that Mark was getting anxious. Mark took jagged breaths, mumbling out shakily. "Did you know that if a car slams into the trunk... We will be crushed to death? Or worse... We could end up trapped in here for days..." Sean started stroking Mark's back, shushing him in a calm voice. "Shh, that only has a ten percent chance of happening now that cars are almost all fully automated." Mark took deep breaths to calm himself, asking him hopefully. "Can you talk to me about something else? Anything..." Sean smirked, chuckling out. "Can you finally explain to me what intimacy is?"

Mark huddled up more, groaning out through a soft laugh. "Oh, god... I'm not sure that's the conversation to have at this moment... No. What else you got?" Sean tried to think of something, but even with all the knowledge he had... he didn't have anything to say that was 'casual.' Searching quickly for anything, his primary user file came up with lots of info missing. Starting with that, he asked him in a calm curious tone. "Tell me about yourself, Mark. I wanna know everything about you." To Be Continued...
