Part 14

Sean switched gears, taking off down the street. While Sean sped around cars on the road like he had seen Gavin do, he made sure to take routes where the cameras would see them. He saw a few mounted cameras turn their attention on him, but he kept his focus on driving. They needed to make a scene to keep them from suspecting the others. Racing through a four-way red light, Sean heard the sirens of the police cars filing in behind him from the connected roads. Just like he had predicted that they would. Behind him, Mark started shooting well placed shots. One bullet went into the grill of a police car, causing the engine to ignite enough that the car slowed down. Mark shot another and it blew out a tire, causing the cop car to veer into a lamp post. Sean then spotted an RK900 on a motorcycle racing out from a side street with his weapon drawn. Before Sean could figure out what kind of weird weapon it was, the RK900 fired at them. A short harpoon bolt shot from the gun toward the engine of Sean's bike. However, at that moment Sean had to speed forward to get around a delivery truck and the bolt instead impaled itself into Mark.

Mark leaned forward into him, screaming in pain. Sean glanced back to see how badly he was hurt. While the RK900 sped up to pass on the other side of the truck. The bolt had missed the engine but had gotten Mark's leg. The bolt rippled with sparks, causing Mark to scream and jerk behind him. Calculating carefully, Sean grabbed the bolt and yanked it out of Mark's leg. Scanning the bolt quickly, he learned that it worked like an EMP. Designed to kill the power to the engine. However, to a human it was the equivalent of a taser. Keeping on course, Sean past the delivery truck and locked eyes with the RK900. Keeping the bolt hidden against his arm, he waited for the RK900 to ride up beside him. The RK900 reached out for him, but before his fingers touched him... Sean jammed the bolt into the engine of the RK900's bike engine. The RK900's engine died, forcing the bike to fall over and skid across the pavement. The back tire of the RK900's bike struck Sean's back tire hard enough to cause his own bike to fall and skid along with his.

Still coasting on his bike, the RK900 aimed his gun at Sean. As another bolt was released, Sean dodged it with a speed he didn't even know he had. Mark shot a bullet into the RK900, then leaned more into Sean weakly. The RK900's bike slowed on the pavement, when Sean saw more cop cars coming straight for them. Dropping his hand to the pavement, he dug his fingers into the asphalt to slow down his skidding speed, turning the bike to face the direction they had come from. He pushed the bike back up and gunned the bike to get his speed back. Over his shoulder, Mark whined out to him. "Ok... I think we can start losing them now..." Sean glanced down at Mark's leg, noticing that it was bleeding pretty bad. He had to agree. Mark needed treatment. Trying to calculate a route that he could lose them it, he accidentally opened himself up to links nearby. Most of the cars he was racing around where built by CyberLife. Lifting his head, he saw an underground tunnel ahead and took the chance.

Driving close to the cars, he brushed his hand along their sides lightly enough simply link with them. Mark began to gasp as cars began to veer into the way of the incoming police cars and motorcycles. As the link grew stronger, Sean lost himself to it and the cars turned almost magnetic as they slammed into each other to block or crush the pursuing officers. Even after they had lost the officers and ventured into the underground off ramp, Sean couldn't shut it off. Only now it was pushing a force of energy outward to forcefully slam cars away from him. Mark grabbed his shoulder tightly, yelling out heatedly. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! These people are innocent!" Sean kept trying to shut it off, but it wasn't working. The lights in the tunnel began to flicker so fast that it was impossible for any human to navigate in. Sean didn't know how he was still navigating around cars as he raced through the darkening tunnel. All around him, cars just kept getting shoved away from him. Then Sean let out a panicked scream as his eyes started glitching and flickering.

Something was seriously wrong... He couldn't stop his functions. Forcing his fingers to grab the bike brakes, he pulled them back hard enough that the rubber tires of the bike caught fire. Mark screamed as the bike went into another skid, only this time, Sean couldn't fix it. From his body, a pulse burst out, sending the entire tunnel into a blackout. Every car that ran off electrical power died on the spot, causing the battery powered gas cars to crash into stationary electrical cars due to the momentum they had before their battery up and died. Fires were the only lights in the tunnel. The sounds of squealing tires and screams filled the air. Sean rolled onto all fours, trying to do a self-diagnosis on what just happened. He had never lost control like that before and it terrified him. His system was still trying to process the issues, when Mark slammed into him to move him out of the way of an incoming car. Mark grabbed him by the collar of his shirt, guiding him toward the far wall. Huddled up to the wall, Mark shouted out to him over the noise in the tunnel. "What the hell just happened?!"

Sean shook a little, stating out in a shaken tone. "I don't know... I couldn't stop..." Mark groaned in pain, then tugged on his arm. Sean wrapped one of Mark's arms over his shoulders, feeling Mark limp as he followed the wall steadily toward an exit. Outside the tunnel wasn't any better. The whole block had been sent into a blackout. Androids on the street were frozen to the spot, while their owners glanced around in utter confusion. Mark led Sean as fast as he could from the area, telling Sean cautiously. "Stay close and try not to look at anyone." Sean pulled up his black hood over his black baseball cap, telling Mark discreetly. "Where should we go? You need to get that leg looked at." Mark grunted, mumbling out through the pain. "I don't know. Just keep walking." They made it to the next block as a patrol of police cars rushed past them toward the tunnel. Sean stiffened, until they drove out of sight. He was just starting to relax, when a voice told him coolly. "You're not very subtle are you."

Sean stopped to look around but saw no one on the street. Scanning the surrounding area for life, Sean asked aloud cautiously. "Who are you?" Mark huffed, raising an eyebrow as he asked him curiously. "Sean? Who are you talking too?" Sean stared at Mark perplexed. Could he not hear the voice? The voice coolly replied to him. "Is the human with you?" Sean's scans didn't see anyone, but he nodded. The voice sounded slightly reluctant but told him lightly. "Turn into the alley just ahead. We can help your friend. While we have a talk." Sean hesitated to move, asking firmly. "How do I know you're not one of them?" Mark tilted his head, giving him a very concerned look as he muttered out. "You're starting to worry me... What's going on?" The voice casually told him without fear. "Look up." Sean glanced up at the buildings and saw a form standing on the roof edge looking down at them. The figure was wearing a billowing tan long coat with grey clothes underneath. Zooming his eyes in on the person for a better view, his mind scanned his features. The second he got a match, he uttered out very softly. "Markus."

Mark glanced up quickly to follow his gaze, uttering out in disbelief. "Are you fucking kidding me? He's here?!" Watching Markus step back from the edge, Sean told Mark calmly. "He says he can help us." Mark grabbed the front of Sean's clothes to draw his attention back, before defensively telling him. "Sean, listen to me. Be careful. We don't know anything about this guy." Sean gestured to Mark's leg, sweetly telling him in return. "You need to get that looked at. Besides, Connor trusts him." Mark pointed a stern finger at Sean, growling out. "Don't bring Connor into this. I don't honestly trust him anymore than I trust Richard." Sean blinked calmly, asking him curiously. "Do you trust me?" Mark lowered his finger, his voice stuttering as he uttered out. "I... You... Maybe..." Mark closed his eyes, turning away slightly to bite his lower lip. Sean raised an eyebrow, asking him a little confused. "Are you ok? You're heart rate spiked. Did the question offend you?" Mark swallowed, then pulled away from him to limp away as he growled out awkwardly. "Fine. We'll do it your way."

Sean moved up quickly to steer him into an alley, feeling like he was upsetting Mark. Walking into the dark alley, Mark's grip on his gun tightened. At the sound of Markus's voice, Sean grabbed Mark's shoulder to stop him. Markus was still out of sight, but he told him seriously. "Your human is armed. Tell him to put his weapons on the garage bin next to him. Then step back. This is for our own safety. We ask you to comply." Sean squeezed Mark's shoulder lightly, openly telling him. "They want you to put your weapons on the garage lid and step back." Mark limped uncomfortably on his feet, snapping aloud. "Why should I? I'm in more danger from them." Markus stepped out from around a large bin farther down, answering coolly with his arms raised in surrender. "If you do not wish to come with us. We will not stop you. However, we can't allow you to come with us armed. We can help you. You're bleeding out. In a few more minutes, you will no longer be standing." Sean tensed at the thought, thinking about disarming Mark himself.

To his surprise though, Mark began setting his weapons on the lid as he told them sternly. "I want these back with all their ammo. Understand?" Markus lowered his hands with a confident nod. Once all his weapons were removed, Mark staggered back into Sean's arms. Mark was getting weaker. Wrapping his arms around Mark to keep him upright, Sean told Markus eagerly. "Please, help him." Markus stepped forward and stomped his foot on a manhole. The manhole rose from the ground, sliding away as Markus gestured them forward. Mark huffed, leaning more against Sean's shoulder as he grumbled out. "Great... Very hygienic for an open wound." Markus collected the weapons, then jumped down inside. Inching forward to peek into the hole, Sean saw a few androids below waiting for them. Markus handed the weapons off to someone, then called up casually. "Lower him down." Mark resisted at first, but Sean helped him down. Once Mark was out of the way, Sean jumped down into the tunnel gracefully.

As woman pulled the cover back over the hole, Markus gestured for them all to follow him. The tunnel was large enough to stand up in and almost wide enough for a small car to fit in. The tunnel had very little water on the ground and from what Sean could discern of it. It was water coming down from the streets above. Pipes of all sizes ran the length of the tunnels and Sean noted the small rebellion symbols that lead the way. He managed to help Mark through the tunnels, until Mark was staggering to stand. After that, he resorted to carrying Mark in his arms. Before long, Markus led them to a broken looking side tunnel. Squeezing through, Sean gawked at the sudden vastness of this new tunnel. It was huge and lit with lanterns every few feet. Markus turned, opening his arms out as he told them proudly. "Welcome to Little Rock. Formally known as Detroit's abandoned Salt Mine." Markus then began calling out names of people who rushed over to him. They looked like doctors and nurses... but were clearly androids.

Markus gestured them toward Mark, and they rushed to take him from Sean. They laid Mark on a gurney, while a doctor examined his leg. They raced down the tunnel, forcing Sean to jog to keep up with them. He was going to follow Mark to their hospital wing, when Markus grabbed his arm to stop him. Sean yanked his arm from Markus's grip, preparing to fight him. Markus didn't rise to his challenge. Instead, he put his hands in his jacket pockets, telling him calmly. "He'll be fine. They'll take care of him. Come with me. I want to talk to you." Markus started casually walking down another tunnel, only to stop when he noticed that Sean wasn't following him. Sean glanced back toward the tunnel they had taken Mark, listening to Markus tell him nicely. "We won't hurt him. There really would be no point in that. I want them on our side." Sean slowly turned his head toward Markus, asking softly. "How did you know where I'd be?" Markus huffed, honestly telling him. "I've got people all over the city now. They act as my eyes and ears. I've had my eyes on you since the riot."

Sean straightened himself up, pushing his hood back. Markus squared his shoulders a bit more in response, adding out neutrally. "Relax. A friend of Connor is a friend of mine. I simply want to talk." Without another word, Markus started walking down the tunnel at a casual pace. Sean glanced back toward Mark's tunnel one more time, before following after Markus. Connor had spoken so highly of Markus that he wanted to trust him. To Be Continued...
