7 | Last Day

"You were never sure how it all ends.
We are all clueless in the grand scheme of life.
We are all butterflies in a world waiting for us to dive."

Yoonbi

The few preceding days were packed up with packing, how ironic. While my family and I were busy, SoMin would be with her family.

But at nights we'd be together in my room, talking. I could foresee the pain of goodbye, I don't want to let SoMin go. She's my only friend.

"It's our last day." SoMin yawns from beside me on my bed. Ghosts don't sleep, I'd kill to know what she does at night.

I nod and yawn too before my eyes roam around the plain, almost empty room, all my belongings are in Seoul by now. Only a carryon that had what I would need till we reach there laid on an old wooden chair.

"Yoonbi! Wake up! We should get moving before noon if you want to get some decent sleep before going to school tomorrow!" Mom shouts from her room.

Laying back in bed, I groan. Something I usually don't do on Sunday mornings. "Seriously, why will you attend school as soon as you arrive there? It's too much."

"Too much." I agree.

SoMin spaces out while I go wash up, she'd been doing that a lot recently. If it's not for the fact that I promised her that I won't read her thoughts again, I would've figured out what's on her mind by now.

Another thing was the fact that she stuck by my side more recently, she used to spend half of the day with the Parks but since Friday she've been with me full time.

"Is there something you're not telling me?" I ask her as I dry my wet face.

"Huh? N-no." Fail, fail SoMin.

I shrug it off and gesture her to turn around so I could change into some comfy sweatpants and warm clothes for the road trip.

SoMin and I walk down the stairs, "mom! Where is dad!" I ask the woman causing the boisterous noise from upstairs.

"He just went to our new house to check the kitchen sweetie! Oh, he's back!" She shouts back and a loud thud comes from upstairs.

I run up in perplex to find an oven in my parents' bed room. Dad stands up properly and dusts off his clothes, "honey, check for me if this thing is working or not." Dad tells mom.

She shakes her head and laughs before doing what she's told, "wow, your parents are..." SoMin trails off.

"Weird." I say it for her.

"No offense, but it's fun though!" I nod and walk back down as she talks, "we're leaving in an hour or so, right?"

"Yeah, but you said we?"

"Yes!" She cheers.

"Huh?"

"I'm coming with you." She states.

"No joke, Sherlock. Aren't you going to stay with your family for the rest of the day, your last day?" I ask.

She moves her hands animatedly, "no, I'm good." She mutters and something about this wasn't right.

"As you like, welcome."

An hour later, mom and dad are in the front seats of our car while SoMin and I sit at the back. I make sure I'm equipped for the long drive that I don't understand why we're going through when we can move there in a snap thanks to dad.

"Earphones," I mutter.

"Check." SoMin tells me.

"Phone,"

"Check."

"Snacks,"

"Check."

"Water,"

"Check."

"Potion-"

"Are we seriously doing this? Enough!" SoMin complains. I grin and nod to her sheepishly.

"Okay." And we go. I was glad mom and dad were in their own bubble upfront so I could talk to SoMin without having to tell them about all the I-see-ghosts story.

We talk comfortable for hours while listening to music and me munching on some delicious snacks.

"Why didn't you stay back with Jimin?" I ask SoMin. She just shrugs her shoulder. "Aren't you going to tell me what's going in your mind?"

"You will know when it's time." She rubs her hands together excitedly.

"Did you pick who you'll watch over?"

"Yep!"

"Won't you tell your only friend," I blink thrice but she only shakes her head, "you know, I can just-"

"Don't you dare," she cuts me short in a sinister tone. I huff and cross my arms.

The streets started getting busy more than thirty minutes ago. I guess we're already in the capital now.

"Dear! We're here!" Mom shrieks when the car stops, "oh! That rhymed." Mom continues happily. SoMin and I exchange looks then shrug and follow my parents out of the car.

A big house stands before us, much bigger than the one back at Busan, it had this modern aura to it as it's light colors shine contradicting the darkening sky.

"Wow." SoMin and I mutter together. My dad throws an arm over my shoulder and pulls me closer to his side.

"Oh yeah, fantastic. Wait till you see the inside, let's go!" We laugh and go into the house.

"You go and check the place out! I will go roam around!" SoMin shouts to me as dad pulls me in. I turn to her and smile, nodding.

"This is our new living room!" My dad introduces as his arm gestures towards the spacious room after the corridor that had a shoes closet and a mirror in it along.

I scan the right side, as dad points, to see a living room with a combination of gray, black and off white. A glass coffee table over the gray carpet was just the right last touch.

"And this," dad turns my shoulders to the left where a black dinning table is settled with four chairs, "the dinning room!"

Mom comes out from a door between the stairs and the dinning table and corrects dad, "it's not a room really."

"Well it's close, this area has everything that a dinning room has," dad persists.

"Except for the fact that it has only one wall instead of four, which makes it not a room." Mom responds stubbornly.

"But still-" before they could go on I cut them off.

"It's so good! Love the modern aura, it's the first time we do this right?" I ask not really recalling all the seven houses we lived in before.

"Yeah, and that's another reason for you to take care this time, we want to settle down Yoonbi." Mom tells me as they both pull me upstairs to show me the rest of the house.

"So it's a two story house just like any of the ones we had before, but this time the flats are actually bigger!" I tell, mom hums in reply.

"Up here are the bedrooms, with an en suite bathroom each-" I widen my eyes and cut dad off.

"Even mine!"

"Yeah." He replys.

"So cool dad!"

"And we have a surprise for you." Mom goes on.

"But on one condition," dad looks at her suggestively. I feel the atmosphere turning serious and the anticipation saturates in the air.

They don't go on. And I turn to them perplexed, "what's the condition? And what's the surprise?" I ask.

"Promise you won't break the rules this time, it's serious Yoonbi." Dad requests.

"There are no more chances." Mom states. I nod to them eagerly.

"Promise." I tell them.

"We got the MSR." They both say simultaneously in suppressed chirpy tones.

"MSR? As in the Mutant Secret Rooms!" I shriek and they nod, "oh my god."

"And, this." Dad opens the door we've been standing in front of to reveal a music room. I fail to hold it in anymore and just jump on him, hugging him tight. I hear mom laughing and join too.

"Show me, show me the MSR!"

Mom draws something with her finger on the wall between another room and the music and I immediately recognized it as the TMC's logo.

"This is your room by the way," dad notes pointing at the other door, "my MSR is there, while your mom's is there." He points at either side of a door that I guess belongs to the master bedroom.

"Come on," mom says as she opens a recently appeared white door. I get absolutely marveled as I see the latest MST; Mutant Speed Treadmill. My eyes open wider when I see the big screen and the shelve full of mutant courses concerning my powers. The psychic power section intrigued me the most.

Then there are two robots with a humanoid appearances for me to practice my skills. They call the first one MTR, mergence training robot. The one for my psychic powers is a little less human like, it has a screen instead of eyes and immobile face but I really strong sensor for a brain. It can feel mind reading and any other tricks I can practice on it. "oh my god, what model is that?" I ask dad, pointing that the first robot.

"MTR1745."

"What about this one?"

"MMS2512." My dad says and I mentally decipher the abriviation; mental manipulation sensor.

"Sick." I mutter.

"Come now, let's go show you your music room and bedroom before your mom forces you to sleep," dad pulls my forearm out of the MSR while my eyes stay on the magical supplies.

I don't know that I'm already out of the room till dad clicks the door shut and soon it's replaced by a plain corridor wall again. He opens another door to reveal a new bedroom: my bedroom.

It had a theme of white, there is a beige and brown couch under the big window and a walk in closet with a door for the bathroom, which was also spacious, beside it.

"Oh my god! When'd you guys do all this?" I ask in amusement.

"All for you, baby girl." Dad ruffles my hair and we both smile widely.

"You're so cute dad." I hug him.

"Sweetie! It's nearly midnight! Go to sleep now, I got your school uniform inside your closet." Mom shouts from the kitchen. Oh, I didn't see the kitchen yet.

"Don't think about it, she'll kick you upstairs again." Dad pulls me from my shirt before I could exit the room. I grumble and stomp my feet, "Yoonbi." He warns.

"Okay okay," I surrender, it was worth a try, "good night." Dad hugs me and goes out.

Before sleeping, I take a warm shower in the dreamy bathroom and wear some black comfy pajamas.

That's something, I wear black when I'm happy. I'm happy.

I promise I won't let you down, mom and dad. I will be responsible from now on.

No friends; no betrayal.
No emotions; no pain.
No powers; settlement.

I vow before I'm pulled into black slumber. A concern in the back of my head is temporary forgotten in my sleepy state.

Where's SoMin? It's her last day.

//today's quote is from a verse I just wrote two days ago, I was so angry and sad and it made me feel better.
f f f. It's already the 4th of october! My exam is on the 7th. Cries, what am I even doing. I should be studying! But then, I wanted to refresh and all that beef. Wish me luck y'all 😭❤️❤️✨
And about the chap: the new house is some cool sheit, I don't know if I did a good job explaining all those high tech mutant equipment, but I'm hopeful.
And there is something y'all must know, I don't care if almost many things aren't real, as I said, this is au. Alternate universe.
It doesn't need to be real, it just needs to be reasonable: those are the grounds a book must maintain.
