DB13

Bundle in tow Margaret walked towards the large dining hall, her thoughts in clouds as she went till every youngster began scurrying past her with wide eyes and fear covered faces. She stopped trying to catch one, but it proved to me useless. Whatever they were running from it was well worth it.

“What on earth?” She turned to an open door as War walked out in a grunt of pleasure, he seemed as though he’d gotten something off his chest.

“War?” She called gathering his full attention. With a groan under pursed lips he started to walk away. Scowling at him, Margaret hussled after him.

“Do not ignore me when I call you. What’s going on?” He gave her one eyes for a split second, then returned it towards his nose.

“They received the same treatment as they gave, nothing to speak of” She rose her brows fixing the bundle within her arms.

“Just what sort of treatment did you bestow upon them?” Her interest peaked. War was known for being an over seer of many things, but normally he’d not bother with the youngsters unless they caught his eye. Somehow she placed Siana in that line of vision.

“I will be needing new clothes for her, seems she’s been fitted with scarps”  With a sigh she should of figured he’d venture away from the question. Nodding to his request Margaret made sure to go and see Siana at some point, gathering her measurements would be ideal to get the best fit.

“What would you have her in?” With him not answering her first question, she’d hoped he’d at least give her the answer to a second.

“Add weight in a few places, I want to see how she fares with added stress.” Again Margaret rose a brow.

“You have something in mind don’t you?” He nodded but didn’t breathe a word of it. When the came to a turn off Margaret when her own way leaving War to go as he pleased.

Turning the chamber doorknob War stopped in its frame, tucked in a corner was Siana sleeping soundly. With a deep wrinkled frown War moved to her side, both hands slid under her body, lifting till she was as high up as his chest. Weighing less than he thought she should have War took a few steps towards the bed when she awoke.

Having less than a minute to gather her, Siana hit the floor pushing her head against the beds side. Palms of sprawled out fingers pushed away from him, eyes so wide he thought he could see into her soul stared up at him. To make her less frightful he squatted down, resting both forearms on thighs.

“Why do you sleep on a floor, when a bed is offered?” She stared longer than necessary, before lips were soaked in a light pink tongue.

“Not my place.” She answered a little hushed. Frowning he grabbed Siana’s upper arm pulling her to a stand. With a bit of fight she tugged, gaining to release.

“From now on you lay here, not on the floor like a dog to be kicked.” A warning rumble caused her to rock her throat muscles. Yanking her arm from his hold Siana rubbed the area. Looking down and to the side she whispered words that both shocked and amused War.

“I know what males do with females in chambers, I refuse.” She had to whisper it, fear that another would hear as well to much to bare. But it was the deadly silence before an earth shattering rumble of a laugh that had Siana looking up at him.

A hand pressed over his face covered most of the joyful expression. But even that didn’t contain the laughter. Confused as to why he did such a thing, Siana waited for War to speak. Leaning down to push hot breath against already flushed cheeks, War gave a breath shattering grin.

“Good to know, but your not my type. The bed is for you to sleep in, nothing more.” He rose still slightly chuckling to her comment. With all that just happened Siana wasn’t sure if she was more pleased she’d gotten to see his smile or hurt by his words. Just what does a man like him look for?

“Rest a while longer, I will wake you for super.” He took up a seat in front of the burning fireplace, pulling out a blade and rolling it over all five knuckles. Rubbing the back of her neck Siana turned to the bed, looking down at her dirty shoes she pulled them off. They already held holes where the days wear had been too hard.

Eyes kept forward. Having already spooked her a bit, War wanted her to rest. Dark rimmed eyes held so much weight he swore she’d collapse before he could catch her. The color in her face seemed dull compared to many others. When his hand had touched her skin, War had to contain his will to check her ribs. Knowing they’d be seen without much effort.

Those pieces Margaret spoke of were falling into his lap, and he didn’t like how they were assembling. To hearing the beds movement War kept his eyes forward, flipping his dagger over callused knuckles.

He didn’t need to turn to see her, the mere silver reflection gave him all he needed to know. Satisfied to see the bed being used, he relaxed in his well worn chair. The knife stopped as two fingers clasped it tightly turning it so the flat part gave him a wider view of her sleeping form.

Moments after touching the pillow Siana was falling deeper into sleep. He wondered how she had such a willpower to stop from sleeping on it in the beginning. Surely she’d of rather slept there than on the cold floor. Her exhausted form answered the said question without any fog.

Resting a tired head against the back of his chair, memories of what once was swarmed over War’s body. They were his nightmares, his power and his doom.

With Siana’s deep breathing soothing his mind War fell asleep, the dagger slipping back into its holster. One leg hooked over his other knee, allowing both hands to rest comfortably on thighs. Able to sleep anywhere, his armor moved with him.
