Chapter 9: I Need More Time

Nov 9th, 2038

Connor found himself back at the garden but this time it was snowing. He walks along the path and sees Amanda standing in the middle of the frozen pond. Connor walks towards the pond and places his foot, slowly, on the ice before he makes his way towards her.

"After what happened today, the country is on the verge of a civil war. The machines are rising up against their masters. Humans have no choice but to destory them." Amanda said, a look of anger on her face. "I thought Kamski knew something...I was wrong..." Connor replied.

"Maybe he did...but you chose not to ask..." Amanda replied

Amanda Status: Neutral but decreased

"I chose not to play his twisted little game!" Connor shouted. "There was no reason to kill that android."

Software Instability

Amanda Status: Distrusted

"Wh...why did Kamski leave CyberLife? What happened?" Connor asked her. "It's an old story, Connor. It doesn't pertain to your investigation." Amanda said.

"I'm not a unique model, am I?" Connor asked her. No response. "How many Connors are there?"

Software Instability

"I don't see how that question pertains to your investigation." She said, again.

"I saw a photo of Amanda at Kamski's place...she was his teacher..." exclaims Connor. "I expect you to find answers, Connor. Not ask questions. You're the only one who can prevent civil war. Find the deviants or there will be chaos. This is your last chance, Connor." Amanda said, firmly.

Amanda Status: Distrusted but decreased

Connor opens his eyes to see that you, him and Hank were in Fowler's office as Fowler was giving you guys the bad news. "You're off the case." Fowler said. Yours and Hank's jaw dropped at this. "The FBI is taking over."

"What?" You and Hank said, shocked and confused. "But we're onto something!" Hank shouts. "We...we just need more time. I'm sure we can--" you stammered at the same time. "Guys, you two don't get it. This isn't just another investigation, it's fucking civil war! It's out of our hands now...we're talking about national security here." Fowler explained.

"Fuck that! You can't just pull the plug now. Not when we're so close!" Hank exclaims, angrily. "You're always saying you can't stand androids! God, Hank, make up your mind! I thought you'd be happy about this!" Fowler said.

"We're about to crack the case!" You said, desperately. "I know we can solve it!"

"For God's sake, Jeffery, can't you back us up this one time?" Hank asked Fowler. Fowler sighs then said.
"There's nothing I can do. You two are back on homicide and the android returns to CyberLife." Fowler said and you felt your heart drop at this.

"W-what?!" You asked as you look over at Connor, who stares back at you. "I'm sorry, guys, but it's over." Hank takes a deep breath before he steps out of the office, you not far behind him. Connor watches you to leave then turns to Fowler before he nods at him then leaves the office.

He heads over to Hank's desk, where Hank was sitting in his chair and you were leaning against the table. Then Connor walks up next to you and sits up on top of the table, in a very human manner. "We can't just give up like that." Connor said, frustrated. "I know we could have solved this case!"

Hank sighs as he turns in his chair to look up at Connor and asked. "So you're going back to CyberLife?"
Connor shrugs as he replies. "I have no choice...I'll be deactivated and analyzed to find out why I failed..." and you could just hear the sadness and fear in his voice when he spoke that last sentence, which broke your heart.

"What if we're on the wrong side, Connor?" You asked as you turn to face him. "What if we're fighting against people who just wanna be free?" Connor looks you straight in the eyes and said, with regret. "When the deviants rise up, there will be chaos. We could have stopped it! But now it's too late..."

He looks down, away from your eyes, after he said this while you place your hand over his shoulder.

"When you refused to kill that android at Kamski's place...You put yourself in her shoes. You showed empathy, Connor. Empathy is a human emotion." Hank said. "I don't know why I did it." Connor said, troubled

Then Connor looks between you and Hank and said. "I'm not programmed to say things like this, but...I really appreciated working with you two." You and Hank smile at him.

Hank Status: Friend but rising

(y/n) Status: Companion but rising

"With a little more time, who knows...we might've even become friends..." he said and you and Hank couldn't help but smile. Hank looks over Connor's shoulder and saw someone walking in the station.

"Well, well, here comes Perkins, that motherfucker...." he said as all of you turn to see the agent walking in. "Sure don't waste any time at the FBI."

"We can't give up...I know the answer is in the evidence we collected. If Perkins takes it, it's all over." Connor said, desperately. "There's no choice! You heard Fowler, we're off the case." You said to him. Connor jumps off of the desk and gets closer to you two.
"You two've got to help me. I need more time so I can find a lead in the evidence we collected. I know the solution is in there!"

"Listen, Connor..." Hank started to say but Connor talks over him. If I don't solve this case, CyberLife will destory me. Five minutes. It's all I ask."

You look at Connor for a few moments then turn to Hank and said. "I'll take him to the Archives while you distract Perkins." Hank looks up at you and nods as he gets up. "Get a move on, you two. I can't distract him forever."

You nod at him as you go over to your desk and pull out your key as Hank makes his way over to Perkins. You run over to Connor, grab his hand, and make your way over to the Archives Room. "Perkins! You fucking cocksucker!" You hear Hank shout before you hear a fist connecting with flesh, telling you Hank punched Perkins.

You two make it to the doorway of the Archive Room and go up to the security door. You grab the handle and open the door, Connor holds it for you as you enter.

But before Connor could follow you, the doorway opens and he hears a voice. "Hey, Connor! I'm talking to you, asshole!" You hear Gavin shout. Connor rolls his eyes at this as he shuts the door, slightly, while you hid but held the door enough where you could see them through the crack in the door.

"Where are you going? We don't need any plastic pricks around here! Or didn't anybody tell you?" Gavin asked.
"I'm registering the evidence in my possession, but don't worry. I'm going to leave...Though I'm certainly going to miss our bromance." Connor replied, sarcastically, and you had to bite back a laugh at this.

"You son of a bitch!" Gavin growls as he pulls out his gun and aims it at Connor's head, who didn't flinch at all, but he doesn't fire. He makes a noise with his mouth, imitating a gunshot and begins to laugh. Connor fake smiles at him and you had to cover your mouth from laughter.

"Go on, then. Get a fucking move on! Prick!" Gavin sneers as he turns and walks away. "Dick." You muttered as Connor opens the door and you lead him down the stairs.

The two of you walk up to the glass door to the Evidence Server and you scan your key and enter through the door. You walk up to the giant panel and placed your right hand on the scanner and put in your password.

The scanner accepts your password and the door opens up, revealing all of the evidence you guys collected.
"Alright. Now...where's Jericho?" You muttered as you and Connor look through the wall of evidence. "The answer's here, somewhere." Connor said as you two walk to the middle panel, which held a jacket, the statue from Ortiz's bathroom, a recording of Markus's speech, and a recording of Ortiz's android.

You pick up the tablet with Markus's recording and press play.

We ask that you recognize our dignity, our hopes, and our rights.

Together, we can live in peace and build a better future, for humans and androids.

This message is the hope of a people.

You gave us life.

And now the time has come for you to give us freedom.

"Markus..." You muttered, sadly.
"Where are you hiding?" And you set the tablet back down while Connor picks up the statue and examines it but didn't find anything. Then he picks up the tablet about Ortiz's android and presses play.

The truth is inside

"What was it trying to tell me?"
Connor asked them he walks over to the right side of the panel and goes to the deviant that shoot itself at the TV station. "Maybe he knows where they're hiding." You said as you stand next Connor, who scans the android and noticed that it need biocomponent #3983v to reactivate it.

He walks over to the android he dealt with months ago, Daniel. He scans that android and saw that he had a #3983v. He reaches out and pulls it out. "Shit, Connor." You muttered as he walks back to the deviant and put the part in the deviant.

You gasped as the deviant reactivated but his eyes were blacked out. "It's dark...Where...Where am I?" He asked, in fear. "I reactivated you so you could help us. We must find Jericho." Connor replied to him.

"I don't recognize your voice, you're not one of us...I'll never tell you where Jericho is...Now leave me alone!" The deviant said. You sigh at this as Connor goes back to the middle panel and grabs the tablet with Markus's recording.

Then he begins to sample the voice. You watch in shock as Connor's lips moved but Markus's voice came out. "That's weird." You said as Connor smirks at you then walks back to the deviant.

"Who's there? Who are you?" The deviant asked.

"Everything is all right. Don't worry." Connor said in Markus's voice.

"Markus? Is that you? Why did you leave me?" asked the deviant. "I had no choice, they'd have killed us all! You'll be alright....I came to take you home. Just...Give me the location to Jericho, we've got to leave now..." Connor replied, still in Markus's voice.

"Jericho....Y-Yes...Yes, of course...." the deviant said, softly, and Connor reaches out and grabs his arm and probe his memory. When he finished, Connor moved his hand away from the deviant but he reached out towards Connor.

"Markus? Is that you, Markus?" He asked. "Don't leave me again, Markus! DON'T LEAVE!" He calls out in fear but Connor pulls out the part, deactivating the android. You placed your hand over your mouth at this, feeling really bad for the deviant.

"So, you were down here too!" A voice shouted. You groan as you recognized it as Gavin's voice. "I should've known." He said. "Gavin, fuck off!" you shouted.

"I've been dreaming about this since the first second I saw you, Connor." Gavin said as he aims his gun at Connor. "Don't do it, Gavin...I know how to stop the deviants!" Connor replied, now in his normal voice.

"You two are off the case...and now, it's gonna be definitive." Gavin said and at that moment Connor pulls you down to the ground as Gavin fires at you two. "What the fuck, Gavin!" You shouted as you and Connor slide against the panel.

You two lean against it when Connor stands up and grabs the gun out of Gavin's hand then kicks him in the stomach. Connor tosses the gun aside as Gavin goes to kick him but blocks the kick with his leg and kicks Gavin, knocking him back

Gavin goes to punch Connor but he grabs Gavins arm with one arm then used his other hand and punched Gavin the stomach then punched him across the face.

Gavin charged towards Connor but he grabs Gavin and slams him against the panel and does a karate chop to his neck, knocking him out.

Connor straightens up his tie and jacket while you stood there, watching the whole thing, in shock. "That...was badass." You said, impressed. Connor smiles then holds his hand out towards you. "We have to hurry." He said as you take his hand and the two of you make your way up the stairs and out of the archives room.

"So it's a large freighter at the docks?" You asked as you two were in your bedroom at your house. You pulled out some old clothes of your dad's, that you couldn't bring yourself to get rid off, and placed then in your bed. Connor began look through them, deciding which ones he should wear as a disguise.

"Correct. And I need to get inside and bring Markus in." Connor called out from the bathroom since he was changing clothes. He walks out wearing dark blue jeans, a black shirt, brown work boots and a gray overshirt. "It's weird that you're able to fit in my dad's clothes but...it works." You said as you look him over then you look up at him and said. "I'm coming with you."

"No, I need you to stay here. Where you are safe." Connor said, firmly.
"Connor...I've been through worse..this will be a piece of cake for me." You argued. "There's a high probability you could die...I don't know how they'll react with an actual human amongst them." replied Connor.

"Markus is a friend of mine. I'm sure he would be okay with me being there." You remarked. Connor sighs as he walks up to you and said. "I just want you to stay here because...." he stops as he looks at you then said. "Because I don't want to lose you..."

(Y/N) Status: Companion but rising

You gasped at this as he takes your hands in his and said, softly. "I don't want to lose you." The two of you stare at each other as you think it over and said. "Okay...okay, I'll stay." Connor makes a small smile as he leans down and kissed your cheek.

Once he pulls away from you, you sniffed and moved your hands out of his and go over to the pile of clothes and picked up a brown leather jacket and a black beanie and handed it to him. He takes the items as you look up at him. "Please come back to me...in one piece." You said. Connor nods as he puts on the jacket and the beanie and began to walk before he turns to you and said. "I will...I always accomplish my mission." He winks at you then leaves the room.

You let out a laugh as you hear his footsteps then the door opening and closing. You go over to the window and watch him get into a taxi and take off. You sigh and muttered. "I'm sorry, Connor." And you go through your closet to find some clothes to wear.

Eventually, you look over your outfit in the mirror and walk out of your room. "Be a good boy, (pet's name)." You said as you walk out of your home, locked the door and jump in your car and head to the docks, to Jericho.
