Nine year old Hyunjin ran inside happily, excited from finishing his first week in grade five, he'd always been a year younger than most people in his grade and that was the result of starting his schooling a little younger than most other kids in his class. He threw his shoes off and dumped his school bag next to the kitchen counter and ran over to his dad, which he hadn't seen all week from how busy he was with work schedules, who was sitting on the couch watching tv. His dad pressed the mute button on the remote, shutting off the sound as he turned to his son, putting his hand on his head and ruffling his shiny black hair, "how was school little man?"
Hyunjin jumped excitedly in his seat, shouting out with excitement, the small gap in his teeth from where he'd recently lost a baby canine tooth showing as he grinned, "it was so good dad! Everyone was really nice and I made a friend!"
"Really? What's their name?" He chuckled at his sons enthusiasm.
"Taeyang! Oh wait no! His names Taehyung, yeah he's really cool!" He giggled at the thought of forgetting his new best friends name.
His dad felt proud, proud that his son had finally made friends with a boy and not the girls next door that would invite him over for tea parties that Hyunjin would thoroughly enjoy attending, however his face fell when Hyunjin excitedly exclaimed the one thing his mother had told him not to, "oh yeah and his boyfriend Jungkook!"
His mother rushed over, noticing the glare in Hyunjin's fathers eyes as she ushered the small boy into his room and told him to stay there, shutting the door and walking back to her husband hurriedly. Hyunjin was puzzled, he was in the midst of talking to his dad so why was he told to stay in his room, he brushed it off and got changed out of his uniform. He opened the door about to step out of his room when he heard his father shout, "so you knew he had a faggot friend and you thought it was okay?" Hyunjin grew more confused, what was a faggot and why had his father referred to Taehyung as one?
He opened the door wide enough to peek out and down the hall and see his mother whisper something incoherently, his father shouting a string of words Hyunjin was never ever allowed to say as he stepped forward, his hand raised in anger as he brought the back of his hand down across his mothers cheek. Hyunjin gasped and quickly shut the door, crawling into his bed and pulling the covers up over his face as he trembled in shock and closed his eyes, willing to drift to sleep so early in the afternoon.
A few years later and Hyunjin was now twelve, he'd witnessed a lot since that afternoon three years ago, his dad had forbid him to stop speaking to Taehyung and when he asked why, he hit him the same why he had hit his mother, eventually his mother and her side of the family had had enough and filed for a divorce but unfortunately lost custody over Hyunjin for the shitty reason of being 'unstable' the judge had sent Hyunjin home to a house where the monster had just lost it's punching bag and needed a replacement and settled for its own son. Hyunjin wanted nothing to do with his father but he was forced to live there until he'd finished school. He hated it there, everyday he would get bullied by Taehyung and his friends for the mere fact he had an abusive dad, Taehyung would call him names and push him in the halls. Hyunjin grew to hate him, his father shouting out homophobic slurs every time he struck his palm across Hyunjin's cheek or planted his fist into his sons stomach had set the mindset that it was disgusting to be gay, he hated that that was who he was now, he hated himself, so much so that every time Taehyung snarled a rude comment about his appearance or his home life or his sexuality Hyunjin would agree with him and let himself become the punching bag for all those around him, he'd go home with fresh bruises and he'd go to school with fresh bruises and there wasn't an end to the everlasting cycle of torture, both physically and mentally.
Until freshman year when he'd been shredded so much to the point where he broke down at the end of class when Taehyung had muttered something under his breath about how he was sure Hyunjin ate his stress away by how fat he was, that stung a little bit. He hadn't been eating properly for years, his father no longer bought food having the same thoughts as Taehyung. He did eat small things the school office gave him but only when it got to the point that he'd almost pass out from lack of nutrition, and when he did eat it never stayed in his stomach long enough to give off enough strength.
He ran out of the classroom, tears streaming down his cheeks as he pushed past another freshman and made his way to a small bathroom located at the back of the school that no one used, he found it a few months ago when a group of boys falsely promised to be his friends and asked to play a childish game of hide and seek to commemorate their friendship but ended up leaving him alone when he was 'hiding' and not bothering to find him, that earned him a his first detention for skipping class when he hadn't noticed the bell ringing and waited there all day and a few new large purple bruises across his stomach. He pushed the door open and ran to the end stall, throw the lid open, getting on his knees and shoving his index and middle finger down his throat, the tips of his fingers hit the back of his mouth, brushing over the hard tissue that connected his tongue and making him gag, he repeated that a few times until he was violently pulling his fingers out, as his stomach forced up all the bile in there, he hadn't even eaten but still felt the urge to have to rid himself of everything in his stomach, he needed to lose weight. He threw up a few more times, the familiar acidic taste taking over his mouth as he flushed the toilet and shut the lid, sitting on it and pulling his legs up to his chest and finally letting out a sob or three as his tears glued his lashes together.
"Are you okay?"
His eyes shot open, coming into contact with the same boy he'd pushed past in the hall, his features resembling a small bear as he pat Hyunjin's knee. Something about this boy made Hyunjin trust him, foolishly shaking his head and spilling out all his worries to the stranger whose name turned out to be Woojin. Lunch came around and Hyunjin had stopped crying, Woojin made him feel a whole lot better by just letting Hyunjin vent, he was used to teachers pitifully smiling at him and saying things like "you'll get through it" and "its okay" but he'd never had anyone just let him cry as they listened to him, he'd never had anyone hug him and be honest with him about how he'd look back when he was older and realise how foolish it was to be paying attention to the rude comments and hurtful stares, and Woojin was right, it was foolish to care about what everyone else thought of him. Woojin had introduced him to his two friends, a small boy named Changbin who had sleek black hair that covered his eyes, giving off the impression that he was intimidating and dark but his friends knew that he was just a softie with a rather large heart, there was also Minho, a sassy boy that had the most heartwarming smile and they accepted Hyunjin as their friends.
Soon after he'd been around them long enough to not listen to anyone and find people he could trust and he did, he had three friends who had made him realise he'd needed them for a long time, they helped slowly break his eating disorder habits and he'd gained a bit of weight and was proud of it. They knew a lot about his home life, thanks to Taehyung shouting remarks aloud all the time and they accepted him, they knew he lived with a homophobic father and that had rubbed off onto Hyunjin but they didn't mind because soon they realised Hyunjin was going through his own personal closeted homophobia and that was difficult for anyone but they never brought it up and kept their own sexualities private from Hyunjin until they knew he was accepting and he knew he'd just been brought to think like that. He spent a few days a week at their houses just to get a break from his father who didn't seem to notice or care when his son was gone except for when he was angry and eventually his father no longer cared about what Hyunjin did, he never acknowledged him and went out if his way to ignore his son but only seemed to pay attention when, out of spite, Hyunjin would jokingly yell something about going out to 'suck a long hard dick' when he was actually going over to one of his friends houses until his dad forgot about the comment.
Freshman year ended and Hyunjin became a lot more tough over the break, he would hardly listen to teachers any more, he hardly attended the boring classes, he'd put Taehyung in his place when he punched him in the jaw on the first day back when he'd said something about his aggressive father like usual and he wouldn't put any effort into being nice towards people and that's how he noticed the small, cute freshman that stuck to the rules and got nasty comments thrown around behind his back. But Hyunjin, not having felt the act of love for years was horrible with communicating his feelings towards the boy and ended up being one of the ones that made his life harder and he felt so guilty because of that, that when senior year came around he hoped for one chance to talk to the boy without being rude and his wish was granted and he wouldn't let him slip away no mater how hard he had to try.
