twenty five
After school the nine boys decided to take a break from studying and head over to the McDonalds that was close to their school, they all ordered, Minho paying for both him and Jisung, Chan paying for him and Jeongin, Changbin insisted on paying for Felix but Felix got too flustered and ended up paying for both their meals accidentally instead, leaving Woojin, Seungmin to pay for their own food since Hyunjin didn't want anything.
After grabbing their take away bags they walked out and made their way to a small playground just near the school, placing their food on a picnic table as Jisung, being the child he is, ran towards the swings and seated himself on the hard rubber like plastic as Jeongin ran over and joined him on the other swing. Soon Felix and Jisung were having a competition to see who could make it from one side of the playground to the other with out touching the ground, Jeongin had climbed up on top of the vibrant orange, plastic roof of the jungle gym and was now too scared to climb down, Chan standing underneath worriedly as he directed the younger to a more safe position. Changbin joined in on the competition and was now climbing across the monkey bars, Felix staring at his arms (which were more masculine than he thought) in awe, and Minho was making himself sick on the weird spinning pole. Woojin and Seungmin sat down, Hyunjin joining them, and started eating their food, too hungry to care about anything else as they shoveled fries into their mouths.
Soon after they'd eaten Jisung had fallen off the flying fox and landed on his knees as he fell forward into the mulched wood chips, hands flying out to stop himself from doing much damage but it was too late, he'd landed too harshly on his knees and when he sat up there was a large wooden chip lodged into his right kneecap, a thick trail of blood trickling down his shin as he called out for Minho, the latter rushed over instantly hearing the cracking in his boyfriends voice. He kissed his boyfriend on the forehead as he slipped his arms under his knees and around his waist as he lifted him up bridal-style, Jisung burying his head into Minho's shoulder to prevent anyone seeing him crying as Minho took him to a separate table for some privacy and called an ambulance, unsure of what he was meant to do.
Felix, who was standing close by when the incident happened and who also happened to have a weak stomach insisted he go home before he threw up everywhere from the amount of blood he saw and could currently see when the paramedics assisted Jisung into the small van, his entire right leg now coated in the thick metallic substance, Changbin thought it best to make sure he got home safely and offered to walk Felix home.
Jeongin had gotten a message from his mother telling him to be home soon and he took that as an opportunity to leave before he could see what Felix had saw, Chan joining him for moral support because that's what boyfriends do. The three others boys sat there as they, watched the paramedic van drive off, Minho and Jisung inside it. They looked back at each other, unsure of what to do next before Woojin checked his phone and shot up from his seat exclaiming something about being late for work and a string of profanities slipping out his throat.
Hyunjin awkwardly cleared his throat, the tension building up again as Seungmin kicked his feet along the ground, gaze drifting to the trees and over to the little black car when it drove by, Hyunjin couldn't take the silence anymore, "listen I'm sorry I kissed you but can we forget about it I still wanna be your friend," he asked gaining Seungmin's attention.
"Don't apologise for doing a good thing Jinnnie, so no I wont because I don't want to forget about it, but if you want to forget about it then I won't speak about it, but I won't forget it happened," Seungmin replied shyly, avoiding Hyunjin's forceful gaze.
"I don't want to forget it either but let's not talk about it in front of the others yeah?" He asked, Seungmin nodded in return, finally making eye contact with Hyunjin who placed his hand on his knee and gave the warmest smile Seungmin had ever seen anyone smile in all seventeen years of his living, his heart momentarily stopped, all the air was squeezed out of his lungs and he felt so warm, "beautiful," he breathed out, immediately turning red from accidentally voicing his thoughts as Hyunjin became equally as flustered having never been complimented by anyone before. He stuttered for a bit before Seungmin placed his own hand atop Hyunjin's, the latter entwining their fingers as he looked up at Seungmin, eyes wide with happiness, "thank you, I think you're beautiful as well."
The two boys blushed and looked away from each other, it was silent again but it wasn't like their many previous awkward silences, it was a comfortable one like they'd experienced on the cafe roof together, except now it wasn't Hyunjin focusing on the past and Seungmin dazed by the stunning image, it was both boys, thoughts, feelings and emotions rushing deep within their blood streams. There was that fire Jisung was talking about, he had experienced it yesterday in the cupboard but now it was tenfold, the happy flames licked and twisted and turned, making pterodactyls erupt in his chest as his finger tips tingled with numbness every time they brushed against Hyunjin's. He grinned idiotically, subconsciously squeezing Hyunjin's hand softly and making him smile too as they both kept their heads down, too embarrassed to look at each other.
They were more than friends now, Seungmin knew that, they'd kissed and they'd both enjoyed it, Seungmin confirmed his thoughts about his feelings towards Hyunjin to be totally correct, they were holding hands and had just called each other beautiful but was their a name or some sort of label for what they were? They weren't dating, were they? Seungmin didn't know how relationships work considering he'd never been in one and had never taken the time out of studying and homework to search for a potential love interest, but when one was practically thrown into his arms and made him feel this light headed and dizzy with blissful happiness he wasn't going to turn down the option. Would he go out with Hyunjin? Yes, but would Hyunjin go out with him? Did Hyunjin even reciprocate his feelings or was it all a silly one-sided 'school girl' crush that he was going to get emotional over.
Before he did get emotional over it he decided to ask, better to ruin things now then later eh?, "Hey Hyunjin I- hmm- I know this might come off as weird and I'm sorry but I think I really like you and I don't know much about this kind of stuff and I think I'm doing this completely wrong and-" his rambling was cut short when Hyunjin chuckled and squeezed his hand reassuringly a small silence hanging over them as the watched a car drive past and the sun slowly set behind the buildings and trees, "its okay I think I-" Now it was Hyunjin that was interrupted, but not by Seungmin, he was interrupted by a tall man, shoulders broad and stomach protruding slightly through his button up work shirt. Hyunjin let go of Seungmin's hand instantly and shot up out of his seat, "H-hi dad!" He stuttered, eyes wide and fearful.
Seungmin stood up, extending his hand for the man to shake as he bowed his head, "hello sir, I'm Hyunjin's friend," he said, heart twinging at the word friend. Hyunjin's dad chortled and gripped Seungmin's hand more harshly than what he intended probably but Seungmin brushed off onto his masculine build and strong figure, he turned to Hyunjin, "I didn't know you had friends, son" he spat, with a smile on his face as his jaw clenched, Hyunjin flinching slightly as he nodded, eyes becoming cloudy as he thought about one thing, 'how much had he seen?'
The awkward silence had returned and Hyunjin's dad turned to his son, "why don't you say bye to your friend, its time we went home," he hissed, clapping his son on the back, the force sending him stumbling forward before he walked to his car and sat in the drivers seat. Hyunjin turned to Seungmin waving a goodbye and whispering an "I'll message you tonight" as he walked off and towards his car, a few tears slipping past his eyes, he blinked them away and sat in the back seat, head hung in shame as his father rather harshly said something to him, causing him to flinch while he started the car and drove off, Seungmin was left alone, confused by the sudden shift in Hyunjin's entire aura and upset that he didn't quite get an answer from him, leaving him even more confused and upset about whether Hyunjin liked him too.
