Chapter Four: Skate Kat
We finally arrived at Skate Ratz Roller Rink after several near death experiences thanks to Andy. That boy drives like a maniac! I'd be safer with Dom and Ledy than I am with Andy in the front seat.
Kellin opened the car door for me. "After you, madam."
He placed his arm on his stomach and bent over, trying to appear like a gentlemen.
I staggered out of the car, both car sick and terrified. The guys started to laugh as if it were so hilarious that we almost get killed.
"You guys... Are the most... Stupidest bunch I've ever met!" I managed to say, catching my breath. My heart was pounding in my temples as the flashes of the white Sudan coming straight for us and swerving bounced in my brain.
We could've been killed! Better yet, the people in the Sudan could've been killed! Are they incompetent or something?! Did their mothers in sync drop them on their heads as infants?!
Oh, an even better though. They're drunk or high! I have anxiety issues... But this... That sent me over! I mean, how close to death could you be? Okay, cancer is one thing and a knife at your throat is another. But sweet cheese, three high teenage boys driving is just nuts!
I stumbled over a bit, leaning against the car.
"Whoa, Kat. Are you okay?" Kellin quickly grabbed me by the arm to help me stay up, slight worry in his voice.
"Do I look okay to you?!" I hissed, beginning to freak out.
Andy chuckled, "Let's get you inside."
Kellin offered a piggy back ride but I declined. I may be in slight shock, but I can still walk.
I followed the guys into the rink. The foyer was dull and lifeless. The only colors on the walls were a navy blue and pale white. The cold flooring was smoothened out concrete with white paint splotches on the ground and old gum with built up dirt covering it.
The woman behind the glass window appeared to be in her late fifties. Her hair was a bright orange–clearly dyed multiple times–and covered with a hair net. She wore huge vintage glasses which framed her dull green eyes. Crows feet was obviously taking over the poor woman's eyes.
"What do you want?" She asked, quite rudely.
"Aggie, my lovely! How are you doing today?" Kellin attempted to sweet talk Aggie, or whatever the bats name was, into letting us in for free. Sadly, it failed. Tremendously.
"Don't think I don't know where you were last night." She narrowed her eyes down on Kellin.
"I dunno. Where?" He questioned.
"You were with Juliet. My granddaughter! Remember her?" As she frowned, all of her wrinkles on her face sagged, making her face droop like a hound dog.
There was an awkward silence as Aggie, Vic, Andy and I trailed our eyes onto Kellin to see his reaction. His face was frozen. It was clear he was contemplating for an excuse from the look in his eyes.
"Hey, Aunt Agatha, how do I-" A male voice began. We looked up to find a teenage boy, around our age, with thick brunette colored hair, hazel green eyes and a face which looked magazine airbrushed flawless.
In the words of every teenage girl... He's smoking hot.
"Oh, hello! Can I help you?" He politely asked, smiling. Those pearly white teeth of his had to have been fixed or something because no one has teeth that perfect.
Why, yes you can. Help me into your pants please.
"Uh..." The four of us paused for a moment. It took me a while to process that this guy was honestly standing right in front of me.
Put him in a suit and place a crown on his head with a white stallion horse, he'd be prince charming in person.
"Hold on Brandon. I'm dealing with these hoodlums." Aggie frowned, still awaiting a response from Kellin.
I felt a pair of fingers place themselves on my chin, and push up, shutting my mouth. Unaware my jaw had been wide open, I followed the fingers to find Andy frowning.
I rolled my eyes and cleared my throat.
"We'll pay. Don't worry." I say, pushing myself through Vic and the still frozen in place Kellin. I pulled out my wallet and began to draw out a twenty dollar bill.
"How much is it?" I inquired, searching through my wallet to see if I had any other bills in there.
"I-It's on the house." Brandon said, stuttering slightly. I glanced up at him, my face a little shocked.
"Oh, um... Okay. Thank you." I smiled at him and he returned the gesture. The two of us stood there for a mere second, gazing into each others eyes. However, this daydream didn't last long.
I felt the paws of Andy push me into Vic as he was urging us to go on in. Once I was out of view of Brandon, I turned to Andy with a frown on my face. Such nerve.
Kellin had finally come out of his frozen daze and began to walk with Vic's help.
Andy held the door open for us as we walked into the roller rink. The lights were dimmed down in the rink itself. Multiple neon laser lights beamed everywhere. Glowing neon lights bordered the seats around the rink. A disco ball was in the process of being lowered down as the song 'Fireworks' by Katy Perry begun to play.
There were a handful of people skating. One kid–about our age–with deep brown, fluffy, side-sweeping hair was using roller blades instead of roller skates like the rest of the people on the floor.
To the left hand side were the bathrooms and the snack shop labeled, Skate Ratz Cafe. To the right was the area to pick up and exchange your shoes for skates. There were various shaped seats, each with a different color, cemented to the ground near the exchange and pick up section.
"Shall we?" Vic gestured me his arm for me to hold on to. I looked at his arm, then back at him, quirking my brow.
"Or not." He lowered his arm down and then we made our way to the pick up and exchange stands.
"What's your size?" Andy asked, fixing to get in line after a man with two obnoxious four year old boys.
But my attention shifted onto the two little kids. The two boys kept screaming and beating up on the poor mans legs. He appeared to be trying to separate the two from him and also getting their skates. One of the kids reminded me of the bully kid on Phineas and Ferb. From his appearance to his attitude. The other little boy looked like Tin Tin.
"Earth to Kat!" Andy hollered in my face and I glared.
"Eight." I said as politely as possible through gritted teeth.
"Big foot." He mumbled.
"That's a normal size." I frowned and Andy snorted.
"Not in this galaxy." He retorted. I brought my hand up and slapped him hard across the chest.
Size Eight isn't big at all. Most likely, seventy percent of girls and women these days are eight and above. Not a lot of people are sevens, six's, or fives.
"Ow!" He belted, rubbing his chest gently, glaring at me.
The man with the kids got out of line and then Andy was next.
"I need three nine and a half skates and one eight." Andy said, placing Vic's and Kellin's shoes on the counter.
The girl behind the counter had slick jet black hair with purple highlights. Her skin tone was nearly a shade lighter than ivory. Her emerald green eyes were painted in all black along with her thin lips. The expressions on her face was lifeless.
Nailing the stereotyped goth I see?
"Take 'em off." Kellin requested and I turned to him, confusion in my eyes.
"Not your pants. Although, I wish." He murmured the last part before pointing at my feet, adding, "Your shoes. Take off your shoes."
Pervert.
I rolled my eyes before realizing my mistake. I was too caught up in thinking about the two kids, Andy calling me big foot, and the Calvin Klein model at the front.
"I was getting to that." I say, making up an excuse. I untied my Converse and handed them over to Andy who placed them on the counter.
The girl placed all of the skates on the counter before grabbing our shoes. Each of us nabbed our skates and headed for one of the oddly shaped bench seats.
I took a seat in between the groove a pac-man mouth. I slipped on the skates, one by one, and tied them to the best of my ability.
I let one of my feet gently slide out, then slide back in for a test run.
It had been a while since I went skating. I am able to skate, but I'm also a beginner. How do I put this so that even a moron like these boys can understand... I suck at skating.
Last time I skated, it was at my cousins birthday party a few months ago. I looked like a fool skating alone and tripping every now and then, but it was worth it. Afterwards, Chris took me to the skate park where I met up with my friend Cody, who took me to the movies and watched Maze Runner and snuck into other movies.
I attempted to stand up on my own as I tried to balance myself. I succeed! Then, on the old blue/grey carpet, I skated my best over to the arcade section. There wasn't much to that section. Just a racing game, hunting game and a gum-ball machine.
I skated back over to the three boys who were getting ready to go onto the floor.
"Come on Kat!" Kellin called, putting one foot down on the two inch lower wooden floor. I followed the guys onto the floor and mimicked them as they skated.
Gliding one foot after the other. Left to right. Swiftly going from side to side.
Andy and Kellin skated faster, leaving Vic and me in the dust.
"How does it feel skating again?" Vic questioned as we in sync turned on the corner.
"Eh, pretty good." I smiled.
There was an awkward silence between the two of which I wanted to keep but Vic decided not to.
"Seen any good movies lately?" He asked, his body position stating the obvious awkward feeling between the two of us.
"What the heck?" I started to laugh at the thought of how cliche it was and Vic joined in.
"I dunno. It just came into mind." He chuckled. I rolled my eyes, shaking my head.
"You're mind is so dull then."
"No its not. Why do you say that?" He inquired and I proceeded to explain.
"Ask random shit man. LIke, have you had sex recently? Or randomly ask me who would I chose to be with Lucy. Natsu or Gray. That shit." I chuckled and Vic laughed.
"You'd like me to ask you if you had sex recently?"
"No, but I'd expect you to, you pervert." I shrugged, being perfectly honest. It does seem like a question these bozos would ask a random elderly man or woman.
He placed his hand over his chest and pretended as if he cared.
"I'm wounded by your assumptions of me. Kat, you've let me down man."
I rolled my eyes and began to skate faster, catching up with Kellin and Andy.
We had been skating for at least an hour and a half before we were owning the floor. Barely anyone was out there and we had the DJ playing mostly screamo and rock bands requested by Vic and Andy.
I skated off the floor and managed to get to the snack bar. I ordered myself a small sweet tea and took a seat on the hard wooden benches. As I slurped down the oh so tasty sweet tea, I watched Kellin and Vic race from one side of the rink to the other in sync.
I chuckled when I heard Kellin blurt out, "Fuck!", after losing to Vic.
"Suck it you titty-less bastard!" Vic yelled, flashing his victorious smile left and right.
Titty-less bastard? That's new.
"What's up Kitty Kat?" Andy skated over to me, attempting to smoothly land his butt on the booth, but fell to the hard ground.
I busted out laughing, nearly spilling my tea everywhere. My chest was hurting because I was laughing so hard.
"Oh my God! That was so funny!" I chocked out through the laughs. Andy shook his head, his pale face began rising with sheer crimson red embarrassment.
I couldn't help it! The boy fell on his ass trying to smoothly land!
"You sound like a dying monkey." He snapped, grinning.
"You looked like a dying monkey!" I retorted, so horribly.
"What the hell? That doesn't even make sense!" He laughed and I shook my head, unaware of what I was exactly saying. Not my best, but it was all I had.
"I dunno man," I caught my breath, finally, and began again. "So quick question?"
"Shoot it."
"Why Kitty Kat?" I inquired, a little curious to know why. I mean it sounds like a name for odd pet play sex.
"I dunno. Just fit's. You are like a cat, you know?" Andy simply stated.
Before I could let my thought slip out, a voice interrupted. "Hey."
I look up to see it was that guy from the front, Brandon. I was honestly surprised to see him.
"Oh, hi." I say quickly.
A nervous smile crossed his lips, "Kat, right?"
"No, it's Spongebob." Andy spat sarcastically. I swatted his hand, glaring at him. I turned back to Brandon, who's cheeks were flushed, and smiled sweetly at him.
"Yeah, it's Kat. Don't pay attention to this loser." I thrusted my thumb in Andy's direction.
"Oh okay... Um..." He looked down at his feet, then back at me. "Are you free perhaps next Saturday?"
I stared at him blankly. I didn't know what to say. I thought at first he was going to kick us out because it was closing time, but this... was unexpected.
I mean... Calvin Klein's twin is standing before me asking if I'm free next Saturday. Me. A freakishly weird, goth-like, emo-rip-off girl. Shouldn't he be asking some preppy princess this?
"I believe so." I smile, pulling myself out of my thoughts.
Andy cleared his throat. Oh great, I thought.
"Oh Kitten, dear. We have detention next week. Remember?" His sickly wicked smile made me have the powerful urge to punch him in the face. I sent a death glare his way, daggers pleading to leave my eyes.
"Kitten? Are you guy's together? I'm so s-sorry." Brandon began to stutter, which made him even cuter.
"This dumb ass? Please. But I do have detention next Saturday so..." My voice trailed off.
"It's okay. Maybe Friday night?" He suggested, shrugging his shoulders. I nodded eagerly with a smile. His grin widen, but Andy's frown grew deeper.
We agreed on meeting Friday night at seven with him picking me up at my home. I smiled as I watched him walk away, back to his station at the front.
"Really?" Andy snarled, shaking his head.
"What?" I snapped.
"You."
"What'd I do?" I furrowed my brows.
"Just agree to go on a date with a guy you've known for what? A minute? I should call you a slut but I'm refraining myself." Andy griped and I rolled my eyes.
"That's why I don't consider that stuff a date. It's time to get to know each other." I simply responded, about to sip the last of my tea before Andy snatched it from my hands.
"No. Tea is for good people." And with my tea in hand, he walked off.
