Startled at the splash of water thrown directly onto him, Hedeon opens his eyes and jolts awake to find himself and now a wide awake Noah tied to a pole. He observes the room to see torture instruments laying around the room carelessly.
"Good morning, gentlemen." Ian says and places down the empty bucket which was filled with water a few moments ago. Down here, the room is soundproof, no one will hear your screams."
Hedeon exhales, looking bored. "Lovely."
"This one loves the sound of his own voice." Ian eyes the supersoldier.
"You should hear me sing." Hedeon replies with a goofy grin.
"I want to hear you scream."
"Kinky. But that's not how it works, honey. First, buy me a drink and we'll see how it goes from there."
"Shut up!" An irritated Ian yells at the supersoldier's behaviour.
"Bonjour, everybody!" Yelena slips through the door with a bottle of champagne and two glasses in her hands. "I brought champagne."
"Perfect." Noah grumbles.
"I would introduce, but I believe you've already met my lovely business associate." Ian introduces the former widow with a smirk, not knowing nothing more than her fake identity.
"Yes. Let's get this done soon." Yelena turns to the supersoldier. "Why did they send you here?"
Hedeon snickers. "Piss off for a thousand years."
"Oh, bummer. I really wanted to do it the easy way." Yelena admits and moves to stand in front of the blond agent with a smirk. "That's okay, Agent Klimova. You two share a special bond. A close friendship perhaps? I'll get the information from you by hurting him."
Alarmed at her words, Noah speaks up immediately. "I'm sorry what?"
Hedeon dramatically sighs. "If she hurts you badly enough, I mean if she gets really creative with it, I'm gonna have no choice but tell her everything."
"There's no bond between us. I barely know the guy." Noah panics. "Hedeon, tell her we're not friends."
"She knows about us, pal. She knows about our special bond, that you're going to be my best man at my wedding."
"Son of a bitch. He's lying!"
"Enough mind games, my love." Ian takes a blade and makes his way to the blond agent, noticing he is easier to crack than the supersoldier. "If you want to make him talk, this is how you get him to talk. Sometimes old ways are the best."
"Okay, stop, stop. I'll tell you everything, all right?" Noah yells, terrified for his life. "We need information to take down 2R."
Ian chuckles with amusement. "You're after the Red King. Bold of you to think you can fight him."
Hedeon shares a brief look with the former Widow before speaking again. "Where is he?"
"No one knows. If you want to find the Red King, wait for the Red King to find you. That is how it works." Ian shrugs causally. "My ties were with General Dreykov not the Red King. My job is to provide the kids from the roads. I transport them to the warehouse."
"Do you have any idea what they do to those kids in there?" Yelena asks the CEO of Gynacon Corporation. It is very clear that she is losing her calm.
Ian doesn't let himself hesitate to answer, no sign of conscience lingering within him. "Why bother when I get the money at the end of the day?"
"Did I forget to mention that I was one of those kids you sold to General Dreykov?" Yelena spits with irritation before acting out on her anger and shooting the man with her pistol. Shocked, Ian gasps in horror, holding his bleeding chest and falls into the floor with a thud.
Hedeon scoffs. "Oh, come on. You didn't see that coming, amateur hour?"
"A fucking dead end. All of that acting for nothing." Noah complains, scowling at the now dead body of Ian McMasters lying in between his own blood pool. "Such a snob."
After Yelena unties the two men free before she glares at the blond agent. "Where is it?"
"What?" Noah pretends to be confused about what she is inquiring. "Where's what?"
"The paper with the code you stole from me."
"Code? I don't know what you're talking about. How would I have even had an opportunity to steal anything from you, Yelena."
"Okay. Agent Coulson, here, thinks that I'll be too embarrassed to tell everyone that I had him in my hotel room three nights ago in New York. And whilst I was sleeping, he went through my things. I'm not embarrassed, Noah. Disgusted, yes. Regretful? Certainly. But mainly, just amazed at your ability to mimic all the qualities of genuine human intimacy if only for 15 seconds." Yelena daggers dead glares at the blond agent as he sheepishly rubs the back of his neck.
Hedeon turns to his coworker with utter disbelief. "You slept with her?"
Noah nervously chuckles. "Okay. I admit that Miss Belova and I did spend a delightful evening in New York. A very long and satisfying evening, if her reactions are to be considered sincere. But, I left with nothing more than fond memories. Now, perhaps I may have neglected to say goodbye to her the next morning, only because she was exhausted and I didn't wanna wake her."
Yelena huffs. "Only if it helps you to sleep at night with ease."
Hedeon's face is emotionless yet his fists are clenched tightly, eyes are saying everything. He needs to punch someone.
"I don't know about you, man, I didn't enjoy my time with her. She's nothing but an ordinary chick-"
Hedeon grabs the blond man by his collar. "Say that again, I'll drill holes into your thick skull. You don't know me, Coulson. You have no idea what I'm capable of."
"Did I touch Mr. Dangerous's sensitive spot?"
"Fuck you."
"Don't listen to his nonsense, Hedeon. He's trying to mess with your head." Yelena places a hand on the supersoldier's cheek to calm him down. It does work for an extent though his jealousy urges him to blow up Noah's head. "Are you mad? You look mad."
Hedeon shrugs her hand off his cheek. "I'm not mad."
"Your face is screwed up like you're mad." Noah points out.
"We found nothing that can lead us to the Red King. So naturally, I'm perturbed. Not mad."
Kate's voice echoes through the earpiece in the next moment. "You do look mad."
"I'm NOT mad! But I will be soon!" Hedeon retorts as the trio swiftly move through the long hallway to escape the scene, fighting Ian's guards then and there when the alarms begin to blare. The guests begin to leave the villa in a hurry as the trio blend into the crowd without rising much suspicion.
"Charles is here. We're screwed." Noah says, noticing Charles Barton entering the villa with a maniac smirk plastered on his face.
"Plan B." Hedeon says as the trio immediately take another route to escape the villa. "Kate. Get out of here and don't draw attention."
"Sure thing." Kate replies through her earpiece before driving her late model sedan, as she is commanded to. But a lorry comes out of nowhere and crashes right into her car, sending it rolling a few metres away. "Shit."
"Kate? Are you okay?" Hedeon worriedly asks, pushing his legs faster to reach his friend.
Inside the car, Kate groans, holding her heavy head in our hand while trying to take her seatbelt off. "I hit my head pretty hard. But I'll live. My seatbelt. It is stuck."
"Wait for me." Hedeon says, not even bothering to check on the former widow and his coworker, knowing they're following him up. He notices the familiar late model sedan lying upside down in the dark, almost empty car park as most of the party crowd has fled away. Smoke comes from the engine, a fire ignites.
"The guy I liked is you, Barney-" Kate's meek confession is cut off when her car is suddenly hit by gunfire which explodes the fuel tank.
Just in time Noah pushes the supersoldier and himself into cover before the explosion takes place and burns them both alive.
"No." From his spot on the floor, Hedeon helplessly watches the remaining structure of the late model sedan be eaten by the intense flames. Kate is gone. He feels such a flurry of conflicted emotions he can barely get the word out. His body aches with pain and his heart stings before he feels a stirring of familiar anger.
"Are you okay?"
He looks away from the disaster and into Yelena's eyes. "I'm fine."
"I hear you. I'm just worried-"
Hedeon, exasperated, stands on his ground. Revenge clouding his mind to avenge his dead friend and unknowingly, he hurts the woman who holds his heart in her bare hands in the process. "Stay away from me, Yelena. Otherwise I'm gonna hurt you again. This time, it'll be worse. I got this shitty mission to be done with and then I got months of debauchery to catch up."
Hurt flashes through Yelena's eyes before she masks it with irritation. "You know, Hedeon? Everything isn't about you anymore. I moved on. I'm in a relationship with someone who isn't you."
Hedeon's eyes stop on Yelena's hand which is now intertwined with the blond agent's hand. He nods with a fake smile. "Good. I wish you the best. Now please excuse me, I have work to do."
"If you kill them, you're no better than your enemy." Noah speaks, halting the supersoldier for a second.
"You're right. I'm worse." Hedeon replies before marching back into the villa, massacring every single soldier getting on his way to Charles Barton and leaving horrendous scenes with his sword and painting the whole villa red.
"The walking time bomb. Enjoyed the show? I had my fun exploding that wench's car." Charles finally appears behind and picks up a broken glass and observes it. "It's a shame though. The last thing your girl saw was you not saving her."
Hedeon looks past the man to see his bloody sword out of his reach, stabbed into the chest of a dead soldier. "Charles, you've lived way too long. It's time to die. No, I need something from you. So instead, I'm gonna take solace in the anticipation of ripping it out of you."
"Didn't the Redroom teach you anything, little brother? To never make it personal." With a broken glass in hand, Charles charges at the supersoldier. "I always hated you."
"Why? Is it because Clint and Verity welcomed me to the family with open arms while you rotted outside the world, screwing people's lives for money?" Hedeon dodgers the broken glass before he grabs onto the man's wrist, twisting his whole arm back, earning a loud snap, blood squinting everywhere. He then pushes the broken glass into Charles's chest, making him fall to his knees and onto the ground in pain. "Aww... someone's jealous little ass couldn't handle me taking his place."
"Go to hell." Charles sneers, having no energy to fight back nor move.
"I've been to hell before, big brother. It was called the Red Room." Forcing his left arm between Charlie's legs and beneath him, the supersoldier's other arm groping around for some part of the man to hold onto in the front.
All Hedeon hears is the man's fury and contempt. His hand finds Charles's collar flesh where his neck and shoulder meet. Clamping onto it like a vise and pushing up from him as Charles's struggles to free his flesh from the supersoldier's grasp.
Forcing himself into a kneel, and raising the man off the tiled floor, Hedeon roughly forces the man's spine across his knee, he bends the man backwards with all the strength he can muster while Charles's starts clawing desperately at Hedeon's hand with his good one before even tries to use his legs for leverage which cause wrenching his soft tissue, giving the former Destroyer the opportunity he needs as Charles's tries to flail his legs in an attempt to free himself.
"And this isn't personal." Hedeon grits out, bending the man with all his rage, resulting in Charles's spine to snap. A sharp gasp on the man's lips before the supersoldier shove him off of him to join his dead companions. He picks up the beeping pager of Charles from the floor and turns it on before holding it to his lips. "I'll find you and when I do, I'll destroy you."
Hedeon crushes the pager when Noah stumbles into the room and he doesn't seem pleased by the number of dead bodies piled up all over the villa.
"What did you do?" Noah's eyes move to the lifeless blood brother of Clint Barton laying on the floor with a broken spine. The blonde agent gives the supersoldier a nasty look. "You're completely busted, Hedeon!"
Hedeon rolls his eyes. "I don't have time to debate."
Noah glares at the supersoldier with disbelief. "Good because there's nothing to debate what you did."
"I did what I had to do. My friend was murdered right in front of me!"
"Kate was a close friend to me just as she was to you. But I don't use my personal tragedies as an excuse to go on a rampage whenever someone pisses me off."
"Oh, I'm sorry. I'm not as emotionally healthy as you're."
"What's wrong with you?!"
"You looked at me with such contempt and utter distain. I'm wondering why I have that same look on my face now?"
"What are you talking about?"
Hate emanates from Hedeon's eyes, judgement and accusation burning the blond agent into a sinister shade of blue. "I'm talking about how you dragged Kate into this mess, Noah! You think you're a genius, yet you had no idea how dangerous involving Kate in this mission would be! The Red King is not a child's play!"
"I got more of an idea than you and of all people, you don’t get to come and pass judgement on me!" Noah yells back in utter frustration at the supersoldier. "People are dying, Hedeon. You can either weep around and be a little bitch or you can get mad enough and do something about it. So I'd like you to put your head on the plan and get back in the game and not let Kate's death go in vain."
"Sure. Right after you get yours out of your ass." Hedeon sasses and walks past the blond agent.
"Please don't kill me for this." Noah mutters under his breath before jabbing a syringe into the supersoldier's neck.
"Dammit, Coulson." Hedeon slurs, the familiar drowsy feeling spreading through his body and swirling in his consciousness. He pulls out the syringe before he loses his balance and drops to the ground.
"Come on." Noah pulls him up, gets his feet under him. And then the supersoldier is being dragged to his feet, yanked away through the hallway and towards the exit where the supersoldier doesn't contain the energy or will to fight it.
Suddenly a resounding boom shattered the air, lurching the two agents forward with force of the explosion before landing on the floor roughly.
Smoke billows and churns with the thick dust as Hedeon coughs but only hears roaring in his ears. He turns his head to see a gaping hole on the back wall of the storage room, flames licking through the open spaces. They need to escape the building before the flames reach whatever the weaponry stored inside the storage.
"Noah?" Hedeon calls out the unconscious blond agent laying a few feets away from him. But his calling goes in vain. By force of will the supersoldier tries to get his elbows under him and push himself up. But it seems impossible at the moment with the sedative running through his veins. "Shit."
The drug is shutting his senses one by one until it finally pulls him into a swirling tunnel of darkness when a voice echoes through the hallway.
"Kill the spare."
