Part 9 : Surprise
||Anya||
I was woken up by the annoying sounds of my alarm. I shut it without even opening my eyes. I then lazily sat on the bed and unintentionally saw the time on the wall clock.
It's 8am. Shit!
That's when I realised that my alarm has been buzzing since past one and half hour and I was in such deep sleep that I couldn't hear it. I have to visit Shubman's parents today and I've already started late. Great!
I rushed to my bathroom to take bath. I need to shampoo my hair today as it's my first visit to my 'to be in-laws' house so I need to look good. I hurriedly took a bath and came out and dried my hair using the hair dryer. I left them open and wore a pair of shorts and tee and went downstairs to have breakfast.
Upon reaching downstairs I heard voices coming from the kitchen. I heard a masculine voice which I was sure wasn't of Dad and even Aryan. I moved to the kitchen to check who the person is.
"You" I said perplexed looking at Shubman. He was wearing an apron and was helping my Mom in cooking breakfast. What is he doing here at this time? He was supposed to pick me at 10am.
"Yes me" he laughs.
"What're you doing here?" I asked going towards him.
"Ain't you happy to see me here?" He asked laughing.
"No I didn't mean that. I thought you're coming at 10am" I said.
"Shubman is joining us for breakfast you know" my mom smiled.
"Why didn't you tell me?" I asked.
"Kitne questions poochti ho" Shubman facepalms himself.
"Acha sorry" I laugh.
"Shubman is really sweet. He even helped me in cooking breakfast" Mom tells me. Looks like she's totally impressed with Shubman.
"You can cook?" I questioned.
"Of course, I'm a great cook" he smirks.
"Impressive" I complimented.
"Thanks" he chuckles.
"Tum dono baat karo, mai Dad to chai dekar aati hoon" Mom said and left.
"Ab batao kya baat hai, I'm sure tum yahan subah subah breakfast banane toh nhi aaye hoge" I said.
"I'm here for your parents" he says.
"My parents?" I ask confused.
"That day at the people's park, do you remember what you said?" He asked. I tried recalling that day but I couldn'tfigure out what he's talking about.
"No" I replied.
"You said your Dad wants you to marry a nice guy" he said emphasising on the word 'nice'. "I'm just trying to show that I'm worth his daughter and that I can take good care of you" he added. My lips formed a 'u' hearing what he said. I could barely stop smiling. He cares so much for everyone, he's an absolute gem.
"Thanks Shub" I smile.
"Why're you saying thanks? He's my Dad too, well not yet, but he'll be very soon. I'm just trying to be a good son" he said. I just smiled and kept on staring him. He's so adorable, how can someone not love him?
"Di chalo breakfast kar lete hai. Bhaiya aap bhi aiye" Aryan called us.
"Tum jao baitho, mai aur Anya breakfast lekar aate hai" Shubman told him. Shubman has cooked pasta for all of us. We carried the breakfast and went to dining and placed it on the table. Shubman and I served the food to everyone and then took our seats. Shubman and I sat on one side, Mom and Aryan opposite to us and Dad sat on the head's seat.
I took the first bite and my goodness! Shubman definitely has some magic in his hands. The food was delicious, I can pay any amount to eat this. Those five star hotels can never match the pleasant taste of this pasta.
"Omg bhaiya this is so tasty!" Aryan exclaimed.
"How come you cook so good Shubman?" Dad asked.
"I often help my mom in cooking and she's a great cook! She taught me almost everything" he answered.
"Wow" Mom said.
All of us finished our breakfast after which Mom and I cleaned the table. Shubman helped us too.
"Anya tum ready ho jao. Tumhe jaana hai na?" Mom asked.
"Haan mom, I'll go get ready" I said.
"We can have another round of FIFA till you get ready. What say?" Shubman asked Aryan.
"Always ready!" Aryan replied in an excited state. Both of them went to Aryan's room to play and I went to mine.
I opened my wardrobe to check on the outfits I've. It's been fifteen minutes now and I'm still staring at my wardrobe 'cause I can't decide what to wear.
Should I wear something western? Ugh no! Traditionals will be good maybe since it's my first visit but it's quite cliche. Oh God it's so tough!
"Tum ready nhi hui abhi tak?" Shubman asked coming in.
"Tum toh game khel rahe the na?" I asked.
"Haan match over ho gaya toh socha check karloon tum ready ho ya nhi but tumne toh start bhi nhi kiya hai" he said.
"I can't decide what to wear!" I whined.
"Tum ladkiyan na" he facepalmed himself. "Hato" he said pushing me to the side and himself stood in front of my wardrobe.
"What're you doing?" I asked.
"Ye lo" he said handing me a blue knee length dress. "Wear this" he added.
"Are you sure?" I ask.
"Yeah. I'm waiting downstairs" he said and left.
I quickly wore it and brushed my hair a little. I applied light make up and checked myself for one last time before heading downstairs.
"You look beautiful" Shubman whispered in my ear.
"Thanks" I blushed.
"Chalein?" He asked. "Yeah let's go" I replied and left after saying bye to mom and dad.
||Shubman||
I could barely stop myself from staring Anya. She looked really beautiful in that dress of hers. Had I not been in love with Siya, I'd have fell for her for sure. The thing about her which attracts me the most is her simplicity and innocence, she never treats me like a celeb. With her I can be myself, the normal guy.
"I've a surprise for you by the way" I tell her while driving.
"Clearly bolo, surprise ya shock?" She asked which made me laugh.
"Surprise" I replied.
"And what is it?" She questioned.
"Ghar pohanch kar bataunga" I answered. "Okay" she replied.
I played some songs which entertained throughout the drive. After some twenty minutes we reached my house. The watchman opened the gate and I parked the car inside and went to open the door for Anya.
"Ye kya hai?" She asked with wide eyes looking at my house.
"Mera ghar" I replied.
"Ghar? Ye hotel zyada lag raha hai" she said and I just laughed.
"Let's go inside. Mom and dad must be waiting" I said.
"Okay" she said and we went inside.
"It's so beautiful" she exclaimed looking at the interiors.
"Thanks" I replied.
"Anya!" Mom came and hugged her. I could see nervousness in Anya's eyes which was obvious, she's meeting my mother for the first time.
"Hello aunty" she smiled.
"Kaisi ho?" Mom asked.
"Theek hoon aunty, aap kaisi hain?" Anya asked.
"Mai bhi, aur ye aunty kya hai? Mai bhi toh tumhari mom hu" Mom replied patting her cheek.
"Okay mom" she smiled.
"Parso ke liye ready ho tum sab? Bohat maza ayega tum logon ko" Mom said.
"Parso kya hai?" Anya asked in confusion. Shit! Mom is talking about the surprise.
"MOM!" I scream.
"Kya hua? Chilla kyun raha hai?" She asked petrified of the way I screamed.
"Vo kuch nhi! Umm.. han! Mai Anya ko apna room dikhata hoon. Vo yahan pehli baar aayi hai" I awkwardly smiled.
"Isme chillane wali kya baat thi?" Mom asked.
"Sorry vo thoda excited ho gaya tha" I said scratching the back of my neck.
"Pagal hai tu poora" she facepalmed herself. "Jaa dikha de" she said and went.
"Chalein?" I asked Anya after mom left.
"Okay" she smiled.
I took her upstairs to my room which I cleaned today itself 'cause it was really messed up. Well I didn't do it on my wish, mom literally scolded me like I'm some small kid to clean the room and obviously I had to.
"Wow! It's so big and beautiful" she said admiring my room.
"Thanks" I smiled. "I'm glad tumhe pasand aaya" I added.
"Ye sab tumhari trophies hai?" She asked going towards a glass cupboard which had all my trophies.
"Haan. School level se lekar aaj tak jitni bhi trophies aur medals jeete hai sab yahin hai" I answered.
She then went towards the book shelf and checked out the books in it.
"Tum books bhi padhte ho?" She asked with a surprised look on her face.
"Yeah. Autobiographies of cricketers" I replied. She randomly fetched a book from it and I could see a smirk appear on her lips.
"'101 ways to impress your girlfriend'. Doesn't look like an autobiography" she laughs showing me the cover of the book.
"Oh shit! Where did you find that?" I asked completely embarrassed.
"In your shelf" she replied still laughing.
"Give it to me" I ordered.
"I won't" she smirked hiding the book behind her. I tried snatching the book from her hand but she was too clever to let me easily take it. She started running about the entire room and I was running behind to grab her.
Finally after some good three minutes I trapped her in a corner and now she can't run away.
"C'mon give it back. Yahan se nikal nhi sakti ab tum" I said panting for air.
"I won't give up so easily" she replied, gasping for breath. She tried escaping from underneath my arms but accidentally her leg hit mine and she was about to fall but I caught her. She had shut her eyes in fear and covered her face using her hands.
"You okay?" I asked while making her stand.
"Yeah I'm fine" she replied opening her eyes, and I even caught her blushing a bit. "Thanks" she added.
"Meri book?" I asked extending my hand. She returned it to me and I kept it back.
"But seriously Shub, why would you read such a book?" She questioned laughing.
"Likha toh hai book me, 'ways to impress your girlfriend'" I replied quoting the words using my fingers.
"Tum in fake love gurus ke stupid ideas use karte ho?" She asked.
"So?" I asked back.
"At least be original, the ideas in these books are so cliche" she states.
"I don't use them yaar! Pehle relationship new tha isiliye khareed li thi but now I don't need it anymore so I'll throw it away" I replied.
"Anyway, time to reveal the surprise" I said changing the topic.
"What is it?" She asked in an excited state.
"Just a minute" I said and went to my study table. I grabbed the envelope I kept there earlier and went to her.
"This is your surprise" I said handing her the envelope.
"Kya hai isme?" She asked. "Open toh karo" I tell her.
She opened the envelope and took out the contents. Her eyes widened when she realised what they are.
"Shub ye toh parso ke match ke tickets hai. India vs Australia in Delhi" she said. "How is this possible? Match toh Bangalore me tha na?" She asked.
"Yes. But due to some security reasons the BCCI has shifted the first match to Delhi" I explain.
"Two tickets for whom?" She asked.
"Actually I arranged four tickets so that your entire family can come and I even asked your Dad but he said he can't come as it's not good for his health and your mom will stay at home to take care of him. That's why I got two, one for you and the other for Aryan" I tell her.
"These are in VIP box Shub" she says.
"Family members ko VIP box ki hi tickets dete hai" I reply.
"But these matches will be televised, what if someone sees me?" She panicked.
"No one will understand anything. Riya, Myra and everyone is coming, they'll think you're some close friend of them" I state.
"Okay" she mumbled.
"So you're coming?" I asked.
"Ab tumne tickets arrange kar liye hai toh aana hi padega na" she smiles.
"Voh toh hai" I chuckle.
"It'll be my first experience. I've never watched a cricket match live in a stadium before" she tells me.
"And I promise I'll make it a memorable one" I smile.
We went back downstairs and had lunch together with Mom and Dad. It was a happy lunch, with Mom and Dad making fun of me all the time. I anyway enjoyed it. After completing our lunch I dropped her home. I came back home and laid on my bed and promised myself one thing.
I'll definitely make her first memory the best one.
