A Single Choice (2)
Lizzie and Josie walked aimlessly as they tried to figure out what to do. Lizzie was still trying to process that she just met their psychotic uncle, who was a bit of a dick.
Not that that was surprising. He did eventually snap and kill his siblings. Lizzie looked towards her sister, noting the slight tension in her shoulders.
"What are we going to do?"
Josie frowned. "I don't know. We could try recreating the thing we did with black magic but that could just cause us to end up further back in time, and I have no desire to know what the early 1900s are like."
"I mean it would be cool to see the fashion but the sexism and racism of that time are not very attractive," Lizzie nodded in agreement.
"Don't forget the homophobia," Josie pointed out.
"As if I could," Lizzie muttered.
Josie suddenly began laughing to herself, making Lizzie look at her in confusion, trying to determine what was funny.
She shook her head, waving her hand dismissively, still laughing.
"Sorry it's just - I can imagine how many people you'd end up killing," Josie said, smiling slightly.
Lizzie stared in confusion. "How is that funny?" She asked, eyeing Josie.
Since when did Josie find murder funny? Did she hit her head when she wasn't looking?
"No, what's funny is that no one would suspect you because you're a woman," Josie said, looking amused.
Lizzie snorted. Ok, that was funny.
"I would get away with so much," She replied, making Josie laugh again.
Then, Josie sighed. "We need to figure out a plan," She said, glancing around, spotting a sign for a hotel not that far away. "For now, I guess we can get a room to stay in over there."
Lizzie looked over and nodded.
The plan was better than nothing. However, when they reached the entrance, their only plan was ruined. The hotel was currently booked full.
Why did nothing seem to go their way? It should be illegal for someone to have this bad of luck.
"Now what?" Lizzie asked, speaking more to the air than her sister.
Josie opened her mouth to reply.
"Need help?"
Both twins turned together towards the unfamiliar voice. They both paused as they spotted the oldish woman.
She had greyish-brown hair and gave the appearance of a meek vulnerable woman, but the magic that Lizzie could sense under the surface of her skin said otherwise.
"You two are very lost, aren't you?" The woman said amused. She had a knowing twinkle in her eye that put Lizzie on edge.
Did she know who they were? No, they weren't born yet, so that wouldn't be possible. So who the hell was this lady?
"Who are you?" Josie asked, beating Lizzie to the question.
The woman smiled. "My name is Sandra Flores and I suppose you could call me the seer of the Gemini's."
Both of the twins froze in place.
"You have no need to be afraid," She said, clearly catching on to their discomfort. "I don't share the views that most in our coven hold concerning your type of witch."
"What do you want then?" Lizzie asked harshly. She ignored the sharp look Josie sent her.
"To help," The witch replied, before walking past them. Lizzie and Josie exchanged looks. "Are you coming?"
The twins followed.
The witch-seer lady led them a few blocks to an active neighborhood. It gave off the white picket fence vibe.
Lizzie looked up as they stopped in front of a single-story house that really didn't match the other houses around it.
Sarah, or whatever her name, entered the house with no hesitation and looked back at them pointedly.
Lizzie glanced at Josie, silently asking if they were really doing this. Josie shrugged in reply. Well, this could either end up with them being murder or being helped as she claimed to want to do.
You know what they say about the game of russian roulette. What's a little risk?
Besides, it's not like things could get any worse.
They enter the house and Lizzie looked around. There were bookshelves filled from top to bottom on many walls. The fireplace in the living room was lit, giving the room a nice warmth.
The twins sat on the couch, while Sandra went to go get some tea for some reason. Lizzie wasn't certain but she felt like the seer was enforcing a stereotype of some kind.
But she couldn't put her finger on what it was.
When Sandra came back, she handed them each a cup of tea.
"You said you're a seer, is that how you knew who we were? And where we're from?" Josie asked, putting her tea to the side.
"That is part of it, yes," She said, vaguely. "I do not tend to see much of the future. Mostly just the past or present-"
"Then, how did you know us?" Lizzie interrupted, staring at the woman.
"I was getting there, " Sandra said, calmly. "As I said before, the future is often left a mystery to me. However, a few months ago I began to have visions of the next generation of Gemini twins. A pair of siphoners born in a world where the Gemini Coven is all but extinct.
"I did not understand why I was receiving these visions until I saw you. The very focus of my sight, here and now, in a time not their own."
"So what does that mean?" Josie asked with a thoughtful look on her face.
"It means that I am supposed to help you two stop the controller of the undead and that mudpit before it can ever get as bad as it did," She replied.
"Why help us? What would you be getting out of this?" Lizzie asked, suspiciously. Josie perked up at those words and also looked at the older witch.
Sandra took a sip of her tea, before leaning back. "The survival of the Gemini Coven."
"What?" Lizzie said, staring in disbelief.
"Wait, you want us to save your coven?" Josie clarified, clutching her bracelet tightly.
"Yes," She said. Sandra turned her head slightly. "And they are your coven as well."
Lizzie stiffened. Either this lady was delusional or just plain stupid. To believe something like that, she had to be.
"No, they fucking aren't." She said, darkly. "If the Gemini Coven was still alive in our time, we would have been treated like shit. And don't try and pretend like that isn't true."
"They saved you from dying in the Parker girl's stomach," Sandra pointed out.
"Only because they didn't know we were siphoners," Josie said, backing up her twin. "If they had known, they would have let us die."
Lizzie nodded at her sister in agreement.
"Then help change them," Sandra said, looking between them.
"Change them?" Lizzie repeated in disbelief. This witch was crazy if she thought the Gemini Coven could change.
"So you don't think you could do it?" Sandra asked, a challenging note in her voice.
Lizzie paused and so did Josie. "We could do it-" Josie said, defensively.
"We just don't want to," Lizzie said, glaring.
"That's the excuse you're going with?" She asked, raising an eyebrow. The look on her face made anger bubble in Lizzie's stomach. It was like she was looking at spoiled children that were whining about doing chores.
She was about five seconds away from snapping this witch's neck but Josie spoke before Lizzie could start siphoning off of her bracelet.
"Fine, we'll do it."
Say what now?
When did Lizzie agree to that? There was no way in hell she was dealing with her crazy-ass bio coven. She may do stupid things but that didn't mean she had a complete death wish.
When she went to protest, Josie gave her a look, making her pause. Lizzie felt dread as she spotted the determination in her gaze.
Shit. When Josie was determined, there was little that could be said to get her to change her mind.
Well, they were definitely going to die. Time to start picking out flowers for her coffin. Her favorite color was lilac, so may as well go with that.
"Wonderfull," Sandra said like the smug bitch she was. She clapped her hands. "I have a spare bedroom that you both can share. And we'll need to make some fake documents for you, so we're able to register you in school."
Lizzie froze in horror as those words processed in her head. Beside her, Josie's face brightened considerably.
"Wait, school? What do you mean school?"

A few weeks later, the twins had all the documentation they needed. They were officially Lizzie and Josie Forbes, the children of Sandra Flores's non-existent sister that had recently passed away with her fake husband in a car crash.
Then came the day Lizzie was dreading. It began with her being dragged out of bed by her sister at 6 in the morning. Why the fuck did school start so early? Whoever decided that is evil.
Josie was of course excited about it like the weirdo she was.
"Come on, Liz. This is a fucking great opportunity. You get to experience human high school like I did," Josie had said, acting all peppy and annoying.
Despite that, she begrudgingly agreed.
Before long, Lizzie found herself dressed and in the kitchen, where she grabbed some cereal. She tugged on the cuffs of her black jacket that covered her blue short-sleeved top. She had dark jeans and black tennis shoes with her hair down.
And Lizzie knew Josie was wearing her hair up in a ponytail. Speaking of Josie, she entered the kitchen, grabbing her own food.
She was wearing a flowy yellow top with a white skirt and white sneakers.
"You ready?" She asked, grinning.
"You have no idea how much I want to stab you," Lizzie said, glaring.
Josie laughed. "It's going to be fine, Liz, I promise," She said, grabbing her backpack of supplies and walking out.
"You can't promise shit," Lizzie muttered, following after her.
When they reached the school, they looked around. Teenagers were everywhere but thankfully since it wasn't a small town, they managed to get into the school unnoticed.
While they walked, Lizzie kept an eye out for anyone that would be familiar to her. No one caught her eye, except for a dark-haired teen girl that was flirting with a boy by the girls' bathroom.
Lizzie eyed her for a moment but dismissed her thoughts as Josie tried to get her attention again, motioning up ahead, to what must be the office.
She followed Josie into the office as her sister flipped through the papers that Sandra had put together to fake their identities in this time.
It was honestly kind of impressive and immensely suspicious that she had that type of stuff just lying around.
It didn't take long for them to get registered and get all the necessary things needed to begin the year. The only thing they didn't have were the required textbooks but the office lady gave them a slip to give to the librarian later on. They then went to find their lockers to put stuff away.
Lizzie relaxed against the locker with the map of the school in hand as they looked over their different schedules, noting that they had English and Psychology together but that was it.
Talk about crappy luck.
Lizzie looked at her first class - Chemistry - which was at the opposite end of the school from Josie's first class.
Guess they were going their separate ways now. Lizzie glanced at Josie as she seemed to realize the same.
"We have Psychology together before lunch; so we don't have to search for each other," Josie said, looking at her.
"At least one thing is in our favor," Lizzie said, sharing a look with her sister. "You should get to your class; it looks farther than mine is. I'll see you later, Jo, right?"
"Obviously. Be careful; try not to piss anyone off or get in any fights on our first day," Josie said with a pointed look.
Lizzie rolled her eyes at her twin. "Yeah, yeah," She said, waving her hand before the twins went their separate ways.
When she made it to the science classroom, she had to force herself to enter. She did not want to be here. Lizzie looked around the classroom that had tons of glass things.
Well, this was definitely a disaster waiting to happen.
All the other students had taken their seats. Lizzie stood awkwardly by the teacher's desk, waiting to be told where to sit.
"You are Lizzie Forbes correct," The teacher said, smiling easily. "I am Mr. Torres, let's find you a seat."
Lizzie glanced around the classroom, spotting a few different open seats, but one, in particular, made her freeze. The person in the seat next to it was the one and only Kai Parker.
What was her fucking luck? Maybe he didn't remember running into her.
Lizzie kept her expression blank as he looked directly at her with narrowed eyes. Nope, he definitely remembered.
Glancing back at the teacher she watched him access the room. "Hmm, since we will be doing some group projects soon, I'd prefer to place you next to someone that you can partner with," He said.
Lizzie felt a sinking feeling as she realized there was only one empty seat with a person next to it. Well, wasn't this just great?
Yay, family bonding with family that didn't have a fucking clue that you were related. Fuck Josie and her desire for her to experience the human life.
"Ah yes, Mrs. Forbes, please go take a seat next to Mr. Parker over there,' He said, pointing straight at the future murderer.
If this somehow led to her death, she was making sure Josie knew that it was this teacher's fault for placing them together. Jo better sue him or else.
Lizzie nodded and walked over to the seat, placing her bag down beside her. Glancing to the right, she found Kai looking at her.
"Long time no see," Lizzie said, dryly.
"Are you stalking me?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Please, you'd wish," She said, shooting a look at him. "And if I was, it'd be to kill you."
Kai paused, then he snorted. "So that's it then. You're a serial killer? You don't look like one," He said, eyeing her.
Lizzie smirked slightly. "Looks can be very deceiving," She said, shrugging.
"Maybe," He said, quietly. Then, he paused. "I'm Kai."
"Lizzie," She replied, pulling out her notebook.
Kai twirled his pencil. "You know I still find it strange..."
"What?" Lizzie asked, looking over.
"How you didn't know you were in South Portland," He said with a slight narrow of his eyes.
Lizzie just relaxed in her chair. "We had just gotten off a bus that had to have everyone evacuate because of an emergency. The driver didn't tell us how close to my aunt's house we were, so we were just figuring it out as we went," She said, tilting her head. The lie slipped through her teeth with ease.
"Huh, we?"
Lizzie met Kai's eyes. "My sister and I," She clarified.
"That was that other girl," He realized.
"Yes," She said, glancing towards the front as the teacher began to explain something about chemicals and the periodic table. "My twin."
Kai seemed to freeze beside her. "Your twin," He repeated, slowly.
"Yeah, why? Is something wrong?" Lizzie asked, raising an eyebrow at him.
"No, it's just I have a twin as well," He said, giving her a strange look.
"Huh, that's weird," Lizzie said, glancing at him in 'surprise'. "I don't think I've ever met someone else who's a twin."
"Yeah, it's rare," He said in a strange way. His eyes seemed distant as he drifted off into his thoughts.
With that, Lizzie turned her focus back to the teacher, so that she could have a little bit of an idea of what was going to happen in the class.
After that class, Lizzie left quickly and continued on with her day. In her next few classes, she found that Kai wasn't in any of them, which was both a relief and a disappointment.
A part of her wanted to know more about him - he was someone that would one day do the unforgivable - but it was also a dangerous idea.
But it would also help with the stupid plan of saving the Gemini Coven, if she understood the catalyst aka Kai.
When it came time for Psychology, Lizzie was drained and was fully ready to just walk out. She could already tell that she preferred the boarding school to human high school.
It was so boring and any drama that did happen was so stupid. Whatever happened to lighting people on fire because they make you mad?
All these people did was yell or be dramatic as hell itself. She was not looking forward to however long she was going to be in this fucking place.
Entering the classroom, she immediately spotted Josie standing off to the side. Her sister's face instantly lit up the second she spotted her.
"Why did I let you talk me into this?" Lizzie asked, glaring at her.
"I'm guessing that means you haven't been having fun then?" Josie asked, amused.
Lizzie grimaced. "No, the only interesting thing that happened was that I got seated next to our uncle in Chem," She said, frowning.
Josie blinked in surprise. "You got a class with him?" She said, surprised. "Did you talk to him?"
"Yes," Lizzie said, raising an eyebrow at her sister in confusion.
"Lizzie, this could help us in the future," She said, smiling.
Lizzie groaned. "Can we please just not do this and find a way home?" She said with a pout.
Josie rolled her eyes. "No-"
"Of course you're in another one of my classes."
Both of the twins turned in surprise to see Kai walking up to them. His gaze flickered to Lizzie's sister contemplatively.
"You're the twin, right?" He said, pointedly.
Josie paused, glancing towards her sister. "Uh-yeah, I am," She said awkwardly. Now she knew how weird it was to talk to the younger version of their uncle.
Payback was a bitch.
"I'm Kai," He introduced himself. "Your?"
"Josie," She said, plastering on a smile. Both twins weren't sure how this next part would go, but Lizzie's best bet was not good.
"Josie," He repeated, tightly. "Is that short for something?"
"Josette," Josie said, her eyes flickering back and forth between her uncle and sister. "I know, it's weird, not sure why they didn't just go with Josephine, but what can you do? Parent's am I right?"
Lizzie coughed to cover her laugh, making Josie hit her arm in exasperation.
"That wasn't what I was reacting to," Kai said, rubbing the back of his neck. "It's just that my twin sister has the same name."
"Oh," Josie blinked. "What the fuck?"
Lizzie made a face. "That's so weird," She said, glancing at her sister.
"Seriously," Josie said, nodding in agreement.
"And she's your twin?" Lizzie asked, pointedly. When he nodded, she made a face. "Why does this feel like something that would happen in movies?"
"Because it is," Josie said, a short laugh escaping her.
"Who knows, maybe this is a movie and we're just not aware of it," Kai said dryly.
"Can you imagine? That'd be so weird," Josie said, smiling more genuinely this time.
"True," Lizzie said, nodding. "Also, an extreme invasion of privacy."
Kai laughed for the first time since they first met. "Want to uh sit together?" He asked as the teacher entered.
The twins exchanged looks. "Sure."
