Trevor's Secret

Ash, along with Pikachu and Lucario by his side, and Trevor were walking around Silph Village. The city lights, that had enhanced the city, were slowly fading away as it was getting late. Ash and Trevor wandered around the village, to help clear their thoughts after what had happened at the hotel, between Ash and Serena. Ash's heart was shattered into pieces. He needed someone to comfort him, while Gary tries to comfort Serena. As they walked, Ash's head was looking down, onto the ground, with sorrowful eyes. Pikachu and Lucario stared at their trainer, with worried expressions on their faces. They knew that Ash was feeling upset about Serena's reaction to his isolation from his friends and loved ones.

Without Serena, can Ash win his next match? was what Trevor was thinking as he looked at his friend, with a concerned look in his eyes.

There was silence among the group until Trevor finally spoke up.

"Listen, Ash. I know you must be going through a tough time, right now. But you need to snap out of this! You've got a match tomorrow! You need to focus or you'll lose the battle and your only chance of ever getting your life back!" Trevor stated.

Ash lifted his head up a bit, to make eye contact with Trevor while showing tears in his eyes.

"So what?" Ash replied while causing a change of expression, on Trevor's face, from worried to surprised. "Without Serena, I no longer have got the strength to continue fighting. I mean, let's face it. How could I possibly defeat Giovanni without Serena being there to cheer me on!?"

"Well, Ash," Trevor began to say, as his face started to become a bit more serious. "you revealed yourself to Serena too soon."

Ash turned to his friend and looked at him with confusion in his teary eyes.

"What do you mean?"

Trevor signed before continuing, "You let your emotions control your actions, Ash. You shouldn't have to remove your mask, in front of Serena, while the tournament was still going on! You hadn't face Giovanni yet!

"What are you saying here, Trevor? Ash asked while gazing at Trevor with horror and confusion in his eyes.

"What I'm saying here is that Serena reacted, the way she did, was because you weren't really thinking about her when you were making that decision to fight Giovanni by yourself!" Trevor shouted while causing Ash to take a step back, as he looked on in horror towards Trevor.

"Serena has been hurting for the last five years because of you not being there for her when she needed you the most! All the pain, suffering, and depression that she had to fucking endure, for all those years, they were all because of you! For five years, you've isolated yourself from the people who really care about you! Your 'death' impacted us very deeply! When I thought you were dead, I lost my passion for battling because I wasn't able to save your life that day. With that guilt, my will to battle was almost gone."

When Trevor said that, a thought came across in Ash's mind. If he had to stop battling, then why he is here, right now, competing in this tournament? Ash then realized that Trevor must be fighting for someone, just like him. Ash then finally asked Trevor the question that has been in his mind, ever since the tournament began.

"So tell me, Trevor, after five years of not battling, what or who made you decide to compete in this tournament?"

"Don't change the subject!" Trevor responded fiercely. "This isn't about me! It's about you and the stupid mistake you've made by revealing yourself to Serena too soon!"

"Just tell me! Trevor!" Ash shouted out with an annoyed tone in his voice. "You've kept my secret from the others. You can be sure that I'll keep yours."

Trevor looked at Ash, then turned around while taking a deep breathe, before turning back to make eye contact with Ash.

"Alright, Ash," Trevor began as he sighed. "If you really want to know..."

Ash and his two Pokémon gazed at Trevor with great interest, as he's about to tell them his secret.

"The person, who impacted my decision to compete here.....was my daughter," Trevor answered as Ash and his Pokémon was in shock and awe after hearing his response.

"Your daughter?!" Ash responded before being shushed by Trevor while making sure no one was around to hear them talk. "When? How? I mean, what?! How do you have a daughter, Trevor?! Wait a minute, Trevor, at some point, in the last five years, did you happen to get married?"

"Yes, Ash," Trevor responded while showing him a ring, on his left index finger, of his left hand. This caused Ash's jaw to drop as he was shocked to hear that his friend got married, and he didn't hear about it, despite having kept tabs on his friends, for all those years.

"How come I didn't hear about that? Do the others know about this? What your wife's name? And how old is your daughter?" Ash asked, while at the same time, overwhelming Trevor with his barrage of questions.

"Well, Ash," Trevor began. "First of all, my wife's name is Brittany. She's a Pokémon nurse. Second, my daughter is three and a half years old. As for the wedding, which happened four years ago, it was held at a private ceremony. I didn't want my wife to be overwhelmed by the media. To make sure of that, after I got married, I asked my boss, at the Pokémon Rangers HQ, to keep any personal information off my records, so that media cannot invade on my personal life. I haven't told the others yet because I wanted to be a surprise for them."

Ash interrupted, "A surprise? What do you mean?"

"You see," Trevor continued. "They're actually coming here, tomorrow, to meet with everyone. The only two people, who already knew about this, are Gary and Serena."

Ash's interested face soon turned to a small frown. Trevor noticed this. "Oh sorry. It's just that she was the one that helped me propose to Brittany, four years ago. In fact, Serena was Brittany's maid of honor."

"And Gary was your best man, correct?"

"Yeah," Trevor responded as he noticed a frustrated look on Ash's face. "Hey, Ash. You would have been my best man, but you were 'dead', so I had to find someone else and Gary seemed like the kind of guy that can keep secrets. Am I right?"

Ash nodded, and then, asked, "How did you meet Brittany, Trevor?"

Trevor gave a chuckle before answering, "Well, Ash, I met her because of what happened to Gregor, when I first met him."

"Really? What happened?" questioned Ash.

"About 11 years ago," Trevor began. "I went into the Cerulean Cave, near Cerulean City, after hearing rumors about a very powerful wild Pokémon, who has defeated and injured many trainers and their strongest Pokémon, for some time. When I reached the end of the cave, I came across some Team Rocket members, who were attacking the powerful wild Pokémon with electric batons. There were devices, placed around the area, where the Pokémon was standing, which seemed to prevent it from using any of its moves. Witnessing the horror of those men beating the shit out of that poor Pokémon, I decided to act and use Charizard to destroy their devices. Unfortunately, Gregor was too weak to fight back. When a Team Rocket Grunt was about to hit him with an electric baton, once more, I pushed Gregor out of the way and I got hit and electrified instead. Gregor, who noticed me taking a beating for it, then uses whatever amount of energy, it had remaining, to send those Team Rocket bastards flying out of the cave. However, all the beating, inflicted upon it, had completely exhausted it. He wasn't going to make it, due to the loss of blood caused by his injuries. So I picked up Mewtwo, and even though I too was injured, carried it, all the way to the nearest Pokémon Center, which was in Cerulean City. When I entered the building, there was this young girl, at the reception desk, that noticed me carrying in a bleeding Pokémon. She asked me what happened to the Pokémon that I was carrying. I explained to her that some Team Rocket Grunts were using a device to prevent Mewtwo from using its moves, as they beat the living crap out of it so that they could capture. The girl was horrified to hear that those men were beating up this poor living creature. Afterward, she quickly called for Nurse Joy and told her the whole story. While I was waiting for Mewtwo, as it was receiving medical attention from Nurse Joy, the same receptionist, who got Nurse Joy for me, came up to me and praised my actions of saving Mewtwo. I told her that Mewtwo was the strong wild Pokémon from the rumor. She called me why didn't I catch it when it was too weak. My answer was that it wouldn't fair to capture a Pokémon when it's critically weakened, without properly battling it, like you're supposed to. After saying that, I could tell that she was amazed by my resolution. The receptionist told me her name was Brittany."

"Brittany?!" Ash interrupted Trevor's story with a shocked and puzzled look across his face. "You mean, the same Brittany, who's currently your wife?!"

"Yes, Ash, the same Brittany. Now, shut up and let me tell the story here, please. Thank you." Trevor responded as he was annoyed by Ash's interruption, while Ash nodded to let him finished his story. "So, while Mewtwo was being taken care of by Nurse Joy, Brittany took me to get some Sea Salt Ice Cream. Although they tasted salty, they were also sweet. Thanks to Brittany, it has been my favorite kind of ice cream, to this day. We then chatted about our interests in Pokémon and realized that we had much in common, especially with our starter Pokémon. We both had picked Charmander, as our starter Pokémon, who both had evolved into Charizard. Since her Charizard was a female and mine was a male, it became obvious that our Charizards were in love. When we got to the Pokémon Center, we noticed that Nurse Joy was still fixing Mewtwo up. So I decided to stay at the center that tomorrow. I thought I was going to be bored there; but luckily, Brittany had the night shift and she seemed to know that I care deeply about all living creatures, including Mewtwo, despite it having been created in a lab. I told her that I saw Mewtwo as a living creature and friend. When I said that, Brittany smiled at me. Her smile was what caused me to fell in love with her. Her smile brings comfort to those around her. She had a great personality, character, and most important, she devoted her life to treating Pokémon, as a Pokémon nurse. Heck, she even had a mate for Charizard!"

"Kinda like what Serena is to me-" Ash said before stopping himself when he mentioned Serena's name. Ash looked down with defeated eyes as Trevor stared at Ash with confused eyes.

"Anyway," Trevor continued. "After Mewtwo got better, I asked if it wanted to come along with me, on my journey. At first, Mewtwo hesitated. Then, Brittany told it that I risked my own life in trying to save its own. When Mewtwo stated that it's just an experiment, I completely disagreed with it by saying that I saw it, not as an experiment, but as a living creature and a friend. After some thinking, Mewtwo ultimately decided to travel with me, on my journey. It was a day that I would never forget. Not only did I became best buds with Mewtwo, but it was also the day when I first met Brittany. And that's how I met my wife!"

Ash, Pikachu, and Lucario were all so amazed by Trevor's story that they were completely in awe.

"Wow. That story was amazing, Trevor. Almost puts mine to shame." Lucario responded as Trevor scratches the back of his neck while giving a chuckle to Lucario's statement.

"To be fair with you, Lucario, your story has more action and details than mine had," Trevor stated as he wanted to be completely honest with the Aura Pokémon, standing in front of him.

Ash then wondered about how often did Trevor and Brittany meet up with each other. So Ash asked Trevor, "If you had felled in love with her way back then, Trevor, how did you manage to meet up with her again, especially since you were traveling to other regions at the time?"

Trevor chuckled before responding, "Well, Ash, whenever I got back to the Kanto Region, I would always visit Cerulean City, before coming back to Pallet Town. For you see, Cerulean City was Brittany's hometown. We would catch up on what has been going on with our lives. We even have our Charizard come out and played with each other. There was one time when my Charizard flew into a forest and brought back a pile of berries, for him and Brittany's Charizard to chow down on. It was really thoughtful of my Charizard to do that for another Pokémon. So then-"

"Ah, Trevor, it's getting late." Ash interrupted as he informs Trevor that it was almost 2 o'clock in the morning. "I've got a match tomorrow, so just tell me how your daughter convinced you to compete in this tournament?"

Trevor chuckled as he realized what time it was, right now. "Alright, Ash, this is how she conceived me to compete here."

Trevor then took out a PokéPhone and played a recording message from Brittany and their daughter.

The first voice was Brittany.

"Hi, honey! We saw you win your match against that Jon Dickson! Awesome job! Mewtwo looked as strong as it was, back in the day! We're starting to pack our bags for the trip to Saffron City. Can't wait to see Serena again and finally meet the rest of your old friends! And Trevor, our daughter has a few words to say to you. Here you go, honey."

The second was Trevor and Brittany's daughter and her voice and words sparked a familiar tone in both her words and voice to Ash, as he's listening to the recording.

"Hi, daddy! I can't wait to watch you battle, in person, soon! Remember, never give up until it's over! I love you, daddy! See ya soon!"

The recording then goes back to Brittany's voice, while she's chuckling towards her daughter's statement.

"She's quite the spirited one. Anyway, I'll see you in a few days, honey! I love you! Bye!"

The message stopped playing as Trevor looked up and gazed at Ash, who had a stunned look on his face. Before he could even say a word, Trevor quickly answers the question that Ash was about to ask.

"Yes, Ash," Trevor responded. "I told her everything that I knew about you. You're like a role model to her. You truly inspired my daughter in what she wants to be when she grows up. A Pokémon trainer."

Ash is stunned to see that he has influenced Trevor's daughter's life. Trevor chuckled at Ash's reaction towards him inspiring his own daughter.

"Well, we better head back to the hotel, right now. We've both got big matches tomorrow and we don't want ourselves or our Pokémon to be already exhausted before the match even starts." Trevor stated as Ash nodded in agreement.

As they were walking back to the hotel, Ash still felt a bit upset about Serena, but now, he feels a bit better after hearing Trevor's story. When they reached the hotel, Ash realized that he forgot to ask Trevor one more question about his daughter.

"Hey, Trevor," Ash said to stop Trevor from walking through the doors to the hotel lobby. "I forgot to ask. What's your daughter's name."

Trevor chuckled before turning to Ash and giving him a response.

"Her name is Ashley. She was named after her role model."

Ash smiled at the fact that he named his daughter, after him. They both walked into the hotel, each went to their rooms and slept through the night.
