Mos Espa
We watched quietly as Watto flew into the room, just in time for the group to enter. Watto was a Toydarian. A creature that was small and chubby, with blue colored skin and small wings that kept him just barely in the air. Anakin and I went back to work cleaning something.
We heard him talking to a man in the same language people spoke here on Tatooine. "Boys, get over here right now! " He yelled over his shoulder. We then sprinted into the store. Inside the store it was dark, but fortunately cooler than outside under the sun. There were piles of metal, old droid parts, old ship parts, basically everything you need to tinker with. I caught sight of the man, who wore a robe and had long gray hair, which was put in a braid and a beard.
"My droids here. " The man said, patting the heads of two astromech droids. "Have a list of what we need. " Watto nodded and turned to us. He raised his hand we both flinched. "What took you so long? " He asked us both in Huttese "We were cleaning the counters. " "Watch the store. I have got some selling to do." He ordered us while I climbed up on the counter.
"So, let me lead you to the back. Then you'll find what you need." Watto said to the man. He gestured with his head and the man,the droids and the Toydarian began to walk out the back .The Gungan walked through the store picking up old droid parts.
The man paused and turned to face him. He took the part from his clumsy hands and laid it on a stack of boxes. "Don't touch anything." Gave the man the stern instruction. Then he walked away. After the Gungan was sure he saw him nothing, he put his hands in his ears and stuck out his tongue.
A very pretty girl with long brown hair that was in braids and curls down her back started wandering around the store, examining every little thing. Her eyes were a beautiful brown color. She wore long baggy blue and gray clothing.
She looked around my age, maybe a bit older. "Are you an angel?" She heard me say. She turned to me and looked at me as if I had just said the craziest thing she had ever heard. "What?" She asked me.
" A angel."I smiled at her. "My brother and I heard the deep space pilots talk about them. They're the most beautiful creatures in the universe. They live on the moons of lego, I think." I then explained her. "You're a funny little boy." The girl giggled. "How do you know so much?" She then asked me out of curiosity.
"My brother and I listen to all the traders and star pilots who come through here. We are pilots, you know, and someday we're going to fly away from this place together." I told her, while cleaning up a bit. "You and your brother are pilots??" She asked me with a wrinkled brow. "Mhm, all our life."
"How long have you and your brother been here?" She asked me. "Since we were really little. Three, I think." I replied. " My mum, my brother and I were sold to Gardulla the Hutt, but she lost us while betting on the Podraces. Watto's a lot better master, I think. " I then told with a sad voice.
The expression on the girl's face made me realize that I shouldn't have said that. Slavery was definitely no longer allowed under Republic law, but unfortunately Tatooine did not abide by that law.
"You and your brother are slaves?" The girl asked with disbelieving eyes. I looked up and squinted my eyes. "My brother and I are people you know just like anyone else, and my name is Timothee Skywalker." Her eyes grew big. "I'm sorry. I don't fully understand. This is a strange place to me."She smiled apologetically at me, then held out her hand. "I'm Padme." She said.
We were both interrupted by a loud jingling sound and looked in the direction it came from; the Gungan had apparently activated a droid, which was now out of control."Hey, hit the nose!" I pointed out. The Gungan did as told, and shortly thereafter the droid collapsed.
"Why are you and your brother working in this junk shop?"Wanted to know the girl now. "Watto kept only us around because of our skills at fixing things." I told her. She nodded understandingly and smiled at me, which I returned.
As Anakin came back into view of me, I pulled him by the arm beside me. "Padme, this is my brother, Anakin." I introduced him. Anakin smiled warmly, which Padme returned.
The man returned as Jar Jar bumbled around and we three engaged in a small conversation. "We're leaving." The man ordered. "Jar Jar!" He admonished the Gungan.
"I'm glad to have met you , Timothee. And you too, Anakin." Padme grinned at Anakin and me and walked backwards to wave to us at the exit. Anakin waved back to her and gave her a smile. "I was glad to meet you too!" I called after her and watched the group leave the store.
Watto came now back in and shook his head in disgust. "Outlanders." He mumbled with a bitter tone in Huttese. "They think because we live so far from everything, we know nothing." "We thought they were nice, right Timmy?" My brother replied and looked in my direction, who still stared longingly after Padme and nodded in agreement. "Yeah."
Watto snorted and flew towards us ,who were now tinkering away. "Clean the racks. Then you can go home!" Watto instructed with a sigh at the end. My face brightened as I hopped off the counter. "Yippee!" I let out a quiet cry of joy as I raced to the racks followed by Anakin.
As we walked down the street together, on our way home, we found ourselves in a crowd of people. Suddenly there was shouting and I looked up. The Gungan from before had something in his mouth with a wire attached to it, and a large creature was screaming at him violently in the language that was commonly spoken here.
He opened his mouth, and the thing in his mouth shot across the square and landed in someone's soup. My eyes widened and I bit my lip, This was not good. Sebulba, in whose soup the thing had landed, stood up and walked toward the Gungan.
He was a small creature that didn't even reach my knees. His hands were what he used to walk, and his feet hung in the air. Glasses sat on his head and thick ropes of skin hung down like a beard around his mouth.
Sebulba jumped onto a table, grabbed his neck and shook furiously. Several other creatures and humans began to surround the gungan and his attacker. They egged the two on and tried to start a fight.
"Careful Sebulba, he's a big time outlander!"I said in Huttese and crossed my arms.Sebulba let go of the Gungan. He spat on the side of Anakin and me. Neither jumped nor did we move. "I'd hate to see you diced before we race again." Anakin said in Hutteste too.
"Next time we race, boys, it will be the end of you." Sebulba told us in Huttteste and seemed to get more and more upset. "If you weren't slaves, I'd squash you now." "Yes, it would be a pity if you had to pay us." I said angrily to him, but instead of answering me, he turned around and stomped angrily muttering to himself as the man and Padme walked up to us, behind them the two droids.
"Hi." "Hello there." My brother and I greeted them with a friendly smile while I gave Padme a cheeky wink which she returned back with a slight giggle. "Hi there." The man replied a little unnerved, looking down at us and then at Jar Jar.
"Your buddy here was about to be turned to orange goo!" Anakin informed them. "He picked a fight with a Dug, an especially dangerous Dug called Sebulba." I explained to them, gesturing to the Gungan still sat on the floor.
"Mesa haten crunchen! Das da las ting mesa want." The Gungan called out as he stood up and brushed the sand off his clothes."Nevertheless, the boys are right. You were heading into trouble." The man admonished him, before he casted his gaze down to Anakin and me. "Thank you, my young friends."
Our group of now seven began walking down the crowded square, often elbowing people out of the way. "But- but- but mesa doen nutten!" The Gungan still tried to defend himself and emphasized his protestations with violent gestures. " You were afraid." I told him and looked at him seriously. "Fear attracts the fearful."
"Sebulba tried to overcome his fear by crushing you. It makes him feel big and powerful. "Anakin explained to him then. I put my arm on my brother's shoulder and we shared a brotherly look. "And that works? " Padme asked us skeptically and looked at us doubtfully. I grinned at her and shrugged with my shoulders. "By and large. "
As we continued our walk, Anakin and I stopped at the store of an old woman who we had befriended when we were younger. She seemed to have been very pretty when she was younger. She had freckles all over her skin and dark spots from the hot sun. The old woman's cart was full of fruit in what seemed like hundreds of different colors.
"Afternoon, Jira. How are you?" Anakin asked, giving the woman a small hug before moving aside so I could give her a hug too. "This heat will be the death of me." She joked, that would be a shame because she was a lovely woman and she deserved more than this
"Anakin and me found a cooling fan, it's a little banged up but we could fix it for you." I told her enthusiastically. The woman's smile widened. "You two are the kindest children in the galaxy." She told us placing a hand on each on our shoulders.
Anakin and I smiled at her before I pulled a few dented coins out of the pocket of my dirty clothes. I counted them out and tossed them on the counter. One of the coins bounced off and rolled toward the man.
He bent down, and I could see something shiny and cylindrical with a black handle grip and a button at his waist. It was the hilt of a lightsaber of a Jedi. A grin curled around my lips and the man handed me the coin. "Thank you! " I said to him before I turned around and asked Jira for four pallies.
"Here, you'll like these pallies! Here!" I said and handed out some fruit to Padme, the man and Jar Jar."Thank you." The Jedi replied as he lifted his gray cloak to slip it into his pocket, revealing his lightsaber once again. From the other two, a soft "thank you" was also heard.
"Storms coming up young skywalkers, you better get home quickly you two."The older woman warned us. I looking to the distance to see if I could see any sign of a storm. "Do you have shelter??" I asked our new friends anxiously. "We'll head back to our ship." The man said confidently, nodding.
"Is it far?" Anakin asked him as we started to walk. "It's on the outskirts." Padme told us, shielding her eyes from the gust of wind carrying pieces of sand. "You'll never reach the outskirts in time!Sandstorms are very, very dangerous.Come on, we'll take you to our place."I replied and with that our large group began to run through the sand hills trying to protect themselves from the brutal winds.
