💔Todoroki Spin Off : Ain't Your Fault

Requested by II_ShotoKun_II. Sorry that it took so long !

I decided to write this chapter in Todoroki's point of view, as I see no other way to express the emotion better. By the way, listen to the song 'If I Die Young' nightcore from Sarcastic for more effects while reading.

Todoroki Spin-Off : Ain't Your Fault (Angst)

As I stood under the pouring rain, the only thing I could see was the glistering stone grave of hers. Around me was my classmates - all of them dressed in black - and for once no one had anything to say. Even Mineta stopped his immature thoughts and stared solemnly at [Y/N]'s resting place. Her family stood across from me, silent tears streamed down their faces like rivers. If only I could put all of my dignity aside and let my own fall. But no matter how broken my heart was, no tears were allowed. At least, not in front of so many people. I had to put on a brave face for her sakes, as [Y/N] had told me not to waste my life grieving. When everything was over, I could go back and cry and bury myself in happy memories as much as I want to. Anywhere but here, she won't rest in peace knowing my tears fell for her. The ceremorny slowly came to an end, and attenders scattered back to their homes due to the thundering sky above. But I didn't leave her, not even when Fuyumi told me it was time to go. People left, until it was only me left besides her. As I stood alone in front of the tomb, I felt a hand resting on my shoulder, gripping it ever so slightly. Turning around, I went face-to-face with my green-haired classmate, his eyes filled with more sorrow than I'd ever seen.

"Todoroki-kun," - he said - "There's no use standing here anymore. Let's go back to the dorm. We'll have a movie night with the others, alright ?"

"Midoriya, I appriciate your worries towards me, but I'm fine. Please tell Aizawa that I might return after curfew, I'm going to visit my mother." - I lied effortlessly, mentally praying that it would pass his observing eyes. To my relieve, Midoriya only studied me for a short while before turning to leave. As he was about to dissapear from my sight, my classmate suddenly stopped and glanced over his shoulders, voice barely above a whisper.

"Todoroki-kun, none of this is your fault. You know that, right ?"

"That's also [Y/N]'s last words to me." - I said bitterly - "If only I could bring myself to believe it."

If I knew it was my last date with [Y/N], I would have agreed with more joy in my heart. The disappointment I felt towards myself after failing the Hero License was still lingering, and I that I had in mind was training from 9 to 5. But when I got a text from [Y/N] suggesting that we should go to the Lantern Festival, all of those negative thoughts seemed to fade away. My girlfriend had always been able to lift me up whenever I was down, and sometimes I wondered if it was her hidden quirk. Since our early ages, [Y/N] had always been my friend, and was the only person who always stood besides me, even when it meant she would get in trouble. Smiling to myself, I picked up the phone and sent [Y/N] a message to tell her that I looked forward to it. The answer I got in return was heartwarming.

To : Sho-kun
Great ! See you at the common room in 10' !

Wrapping up the last bit of my Quirk History essay, I stood up and opened the door of my closet. Thanks to my very traditional father, I had a lot of different types of kimonos, and never had I been more happy to have full access to Endeavor's V Card. After a while of considering, I picked a black silk kimono with snowflakes pattern and a white belt. Shoving my wallet and phone into the pocket, I put on the wooden sandals and walked out of my room, into the common room to wait for my girlfriend. I didn't have to wait long. A few minutes later, [Y/N] stepped into the room looking like a Sengoku princess in her [Favorite Color] yukata. The piece of clothing fitted perfectly against her body, showing off all of the curves that had changed a lot since we were five-years-old. Her soft hair was tied/braided into an elegance [Favorite Hairdo]. The light makeup on her face only added more effects on [Y/N]'s angelic features. For the love of All Might, what did I do to deserve such an amazing girlfriend ?

"Hey Sho-kun ! The weathers so pretty, isn't it ?"

"It is." - I smiled, giving [Y/N] a small peck on her rosy cheeks as she drew closer - "Shall we go ?"

She gave me and excited nod and just like that, we were out on the busy streets talking about absolute everything and anything. My cold hand slipped effortlessly into her smaller ones, the warmth from her body igniting my heart. [Y/N] was perfect, from the way she sometimes burst into songs to the calming hugs she gave me whenever I doubt myself. A few years from now, we'll grow up and become heroes together, just like that promise we made from the young days. Our duo might not be the best, but as long as she stands by my side, nothing could separate us. And when [Y/N]'s ready, I will put a ring on her finger to make her mine, and nothing could take the love of my life away from me. I'll wait until my last breath if necessary, but that's the future. But I wish, no matter what happens, [Y/N] would stay by my side despite the odds an-

"Shoto, dodge !!!"

Quick as a shadow, [Y/N] grabbed my wrist and pulled me down, just when a bright blue ball flew pass where my head was a few moments ago. Standing up, I could make out the figure of the villain Dabi among the shadows of an alleyway, fire illuminating his features. I clenched my fists in annoyance; why, of all godly times in the world, did trouble went crashing down on our head that day ?

"Look like we meet again, Shoto Todoroki." - he cooed loudly as he stepped away from the shadows, freaking out some of the civilians - "And your pretty girlfriend too, such pleasure."

"What do you want, Dabi ? If you didn't figure it out yet, you're intruding."

We were a good 30 feet apart from each other, but the sound was perfectly delivered across the now deserted street. The guy was a well-known villain while [Y/N] and I were students of Yueei, the biggest school for Heroes-in-trainings in Japan. People would be stupid if they didn't know that war was coming. Most of the time, they were extremely dumb to not run away, but this time they weren't. When even the citizens were afraid, then everyone should.

"Nothing, just a bit of your time.  Me and my friends want to say hello, that's all."

As if on cue, dark portals surrounded the place. Members of the League of Villains stepped out, their faces decorated by crooked smiles. If only my other classmates were available, but I had forbidded them to call me or [Y/N] in any circumstances, so I guess none would be trill to see my number blasting through their phone. Oh well, me and my girlfriend were good, so we could handle it.

"So we meet again, heroes." - the one with a hand on his face said, I guess his name was Shigaraki or something - "But there's only one real one here, am I right ?"

It didn't take long for me to understand what he meant. I didn't pass my License exam, so [Y/N] was the only person qualified to battle. But screw the polices, since I wouldn't just stand back and let my girl put her life at risk. As I was about to blast the psychotic girl, [Y/N] raised her arm and blocked my way.

"Shoto, stand back. I won't let you get kick out if Yueei just because of some stupid rage of ego."

"But ..." - I started, but my girlfriend glared at me hard and that was enough to make me shut my mouth. Sometimes, she was the scariest person on Earth, and that was me counting in Aizawa-sensei.

"No. Stand back and call the Pros."

And that was all I did. I was a wimp, putting my career before the love of my life. But [Y/N], she didn't blame me as I stepped aside to let her stepped up. I dialed Aizawa while my girlfriend shed off her yukata, revealing grey shorts and black tank top. I should have known that [Y/N]'s cautious self would always go with preparations.

"Prepared, I'm impressed." - Dabi chuckled, eyeing [Y/N] like a piece of fresh meat - "Should have taken you instead of that angry kid."

"It would still as pointless as ever. Now come here and fight me like you mean it."

[Y/N] growled, and that was the last straw. The crazy blond dashed forward with her knife aimed straight as my girl's throat, but she quickly moved aside and twisted the villain's arm, yanking the knife away. But then, quick as lightning, several blue fireball flew just inches away from [Y/N]'s ribs. She barely dodged it, before Shigaraki attempted to grab her throat.

So many minutes passed and the Pros were nowhere to be seen. My girlfriend was still in top shape, but I could tell that she was getting tired. I was so tempted to jump in and help her, but [Y/N] wouldn't appreciate it. Sending another blow of razor sharp metal blades to Dabi, [Y/N] slammed her fists on the ground, making it burst with iron stakes. Her quirk was strong, but I doubt it would last any longer. Thankfully right then, I heard a loud 'Step aside, [Last Name] !" and Aizawa-sensei came crashing down. All Might save him for always being at the right place and right moment.

"Todoroki, I allow you to fight !" - Aizawa-sensei called out and I heard myself mumbling 'Finally' - "Come and help, I'll answer if the police ask anything."

That was my only cue. Blasting a wall if ice towards Dabi and Shigaraki, I ran forward and stepped into my rightful place beside [Y/N]. I know that she didn't want me to risk my education, but I could tell that she was overjoyed now that I was here to help. Smiling, I activated my flames and said.

"Mad ?"

"At you ?" - my girlfriend grinned as she skillfully dodged another fireball - "Never."

We were amazing, dodging every single hit landed at us. Me and [Y/N] really was the power couple, and I was so happy to be by her side. At last, we managed to push the League back despite the odds. I was thrilled, but maybe I celebrated too soon

In a moment of carelessness, I completely lose my focus. I thought that we - me, [Y/N] and Aizawa-sensei - had defeated the League, so I lowered my hand and stopped the flow of ice. That was enough for the female blond who now I remembered as Toga throw a knife at my direction. I didn't see that cold metal flash coming at all, at least not until [Y/N] called out my name.

"Shoto, look out !"

I turned around just in time to see the sharp edge flying straight towards my stomach. I, for once in my life, froze like a complete idiot who had nothing else to do. And before my mind could register what just happened, I saw the figure of my girlfriend standing in front of me, following by the victorious cry of Toga.

"Dabi, look ! I nailed it, see ?!?! Can I get her blood ?"

"No time for that, the cops are coming !" - the handy male hissed before disappearing behind the portal - "Retreat !"

And then they were gone. The street was now pouring with people who wanted to celebrate us, but I couldn't care less. I crouched down quickly where [Y/N] was lying bathed in her own blood, the red liquid seeping through her tank top.

"You stupid girl." - I hissed, voice lacking any real anger. Blood was still pouring, and there was nothing I could do - "Why did you do that ?"

"We look out for each other ..." - she choked as Aizawa-sensei noticed and came to check us out. Honestly, I told [Y/N] that because of her ridiculously overflowing kindness, she could get herself killed one day. Never in heavens that I thought I would be the one to bring her pain.

"The wound's fatal, but there's a chance. Todoroki, keep [Last Name] concious while we wait for Recovery Girl, can't move her while the wound isn't closed."

I nodded, tears brimming at my eyes. It shouldn't end like this, what about my promise with her ? What about the future that I planned for us ? [Y/N], still sharp despite her throbbing wound, noticed the shimmering liquid in my eyes and shakily brought her hand up to wipe it away.

"N-No crying ..." - she frowned, but I could see the tiniest hint of pain visible on her face - "I l-like it when you s-smile more, Shoto ..."

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry ..."

Unable to hold back, I let my tears flowed as they wish. [Y/N] winced, her hand holding my left side moved to wipe the other eye's tears away, but I held her wrist to keep it in place. I didn't care if I was crying in public or not, but my girlfriend did. She'd always liked my cool and collected side.

"If I didn't lose focus, if I didn't fail the exam, ..." - I hiccuped, gripping on [Y/N]'s hand on my face - "Then you won't have to suffer like this ... it's all my fault ..."

"D-Don't say that ... I choose my own actions, and I won't be able to live on if you were the one laying here. But you," - she stopped, hand caressing my tear-stained cheeks - "are strong enough to move on. You could become a better hero than I'd ever be."

I shook my head violently, eyebrows furrowed. Why was [Y/N], the strongest person I know, accepting her faith like it was inevitable ? If she held on to me only a while longer, Recovery Girl would arrive and we would go back to living our perfect lives together.

"No, you can't leave me like this !" - I screamed, all restrains lost as my voice wavered - "Just hold on, don't give up on us ... Please ..."

"We both know that Recovery Girl won't arrive in time. So, let me do one last thing, alright ?"

[Y/N] choked out as she lift her upper body up and pressed her blood-stained lips against mine. I was taken back at first, but then, like a reflex, I returned the kiss. It was salty as all I could taste was my own tears mixed with her blood, but somewhere among that utter mess, I could still feel my girlfriend's sweetness, and it pained me. Despite how much I tried to deny it, my mind knew better : it was the last time I could taste her lips.

[Y/N] pulled away with a painful grin, her hand cold on my fire side. Squeezing my cheek, she let out a soft breath and whispered.

"Don't dwell on me forever, alright ? None of this is your fault ..."

And her beautiful eyes went shut. I gripped harder on the ice-cold hand resting on my face to stop it from falling down, but it was no use. She pulled her hand away from mine and dropped it, finalized my greatest fear. I let out a horrendous cry before burying my head into her neck, feeling the heat of [Y/N]'s body draining away.

Above our head, dark clouds took over.
