Shoto x Reader : Jewelry - Soulmate AU (Fluff)

This is the world where you and your soulmate is connected by a piece of jewelry that came with you when you were born. You had never paid much attention to your jewelry, until one day ...

"No, you can't leave me like this !" - you yelled through the phone - "Now I'm the only person in our group without a soulmate !"

You just receive a bad news : your best friend has found his/her soulmate. This sucks, A LOT. In this world, people were connected by a weird bond that called soulmate. When a kid gets born, a piece of jewelry would come with them : a keychain necklace for girls and a heart lock bracelet for boys, except for some other situations. If your key matches with the lock, you're soulmates, easy as that. But you never cared, since you don't believe in that. Not everyone have a happy ending with their soulmates, take your aunt for example. Her husband left her, and now she have to take care of two children by her own.

"If you don't want to be left out, at least you should pay attention to it more !" - your best friend replied from the other end - "You're attending UA High, right ? Maybe you could meet him there !"

With that, they ended the call. You groaned loudly, mostly pissed at him/her for ignoring you like that. Some friends they were. Standing up, you walked over to your desk and opened the drawer, taking out your own key. It was beautiful indeed, with a small white and red gem in the middle. They said that the gem represents your soulmate's hair color, and whoever this guy was, he surely was special. Sighing, you put on the necklace, something you haven't done in a while.

After the phone call, you had decided to go out and take a walk to clear your head. Yet it seemed like everything was againts you today. The moment you walked outside, the sound of thunder echoed through the sky. Then it came pouring. Within a second, you were drenched from head to toes. You pulled your hood up, then continue your small walk.

"Fucking rain ..." - you mumbled angrily as you kicked a small stone on the road - "Out of all days, why now ?"

No answers. Of course, you were just asking yourself. You wondered, if soulmates actually true. Everyone rushed and find their so-called life partner, who they might know nothing about. And even when they meet, they can't be sure if it was right or not. So why believe ? It was just some random matchmaking of this world, no one could be sure of the percentage. Too busy questioning the world, you bumped hard into someone walking the opposite way.

"Oof !" - you let out a small cry as your body made contact with the ground. You were going to stand up and apologize to whoever that was, but a hand beat you to it. Glancing up, you noticed it was from the person you just ran into. Grabbing his hand, you stood up and bowed to the person in front of you.

"I'm sorry, it was my bad."

"Don't worry."

You looked up, taking in the outlines of the person in front of you. It was a boy, probably around your age, with breathtaking heterochromia eyes. His hair was split perfectly between red and white, and suddenly you found yourself staring at him.

"Is there something on my face ?" - his monotone voice dragged you away from your daze. You felt your face burn up as you detached your hand from his. Stepping away, you coughed loudly.

"Not at all ! Uh, I have to go !"

You walked away hurrily, leaving the boy standing in the rain, holding his umbrella. Still looking at your silhouette getting smaller every second, Todoroki glanced at the [H/C] band on his wrist.

"Could she be that person ?"

After the incident in the rain, somehow you felt better than before. You were still focused on preparing for your first day in UA High, but the image of that boy still appeared in your head. Sometimes you would look at your key, and sigh. There were many people in this world with red and white hair, you couldn't be sure if that boy was your soulmate. Even though there was an undeniable tug at your heart during that encounter, you just decided to ignore it.

You woke up, had breakfast and then headed for the train station. It was the first day of high school, and you really don't want to mess this up. Scanning through your phone screen, you suddenly felt a hand tapping you shoulder.

"Excuse me, can I sit here, please ?"

Looking up, you almost scream when you saw the person's face. It was the same boy you crashed into the other day ! Nodding, you signaled him to take a seat before turning back to your phone. Todoroki looked at you, then at the key hanging from your neck. He didn't fail to notice the two-colored gem attached to it, and his mind flashed back to his own unique hair. Since that day, your picture was always stuck in his brain, and Shoto Todoroki was determined to see you again. And luck was in his side now, sitting next to you on a crowded train heading to school.

"You're going to UA High ?" - he asked, making you shift your attention away from the screen - "You're wearing the same uniform as me."

"Yeah, I am !" - you beamed, a bright smile making its way to your face - "I tried my best to get in, and I'm not going to let it slip !"

"Interesting ... Which class are you in ?"

"1-A, Hero Course ! And you ?"

"Same as you."

Then the silence grew again. It was rather uncomfortable, almost unbearable at the moment. You suddenly sighed and moved your hand to your key. Todoroki glanced at you as you remove your necklace, your eyes filled with sadness as you look at the shiny thing in your hand.

"Hey, do you believe in soulmates ?" - you asked out of nowhere, surprising Shoto a bit. The boy went silent for a moment before answering.

"Yes and no. They might be real, but you can't be sure if it's them. Just like my parents."

"And my aunt." - you laughed dryly, holding up the key for the boy to see - "You know, whoever this belongs to, I hope I meet them in person soon."

"Oh ?" - Shoto's eyebrows perked up - "It looks like my hair. Do you want to try your luck ?"

You almost choke on your own saliva at his suggestion. Sure, he's handsome and stuffs, but isn't this a bit too forward ? Trying to hide your flustered state, you smiled.

"Shouldn't I know you first ? Like, I've met you twice and didn't even get your name."

"Shoto Todoroki." - he answered, his eyes fixed on your face - "It guess this is your turn to introduce ?"

"[Y/N] [L/N]." - you said as you handed him your key - "Alright, let get this weird stuff over with."

Shoto took the key from your hand and began to unlock his band. A small clicking sound was heard, as both of your eyes widened.

"Oh shit ... it worked."
