A/N: a small backstory of Freya for y'all :D

THREE YEARS AGO

Freya's POV:

"Let go of me!" I grunt, trying to fight off my 'parents' grips as they dragged me through the underground tunnels that led to the ISA headquarters. "I'm not gonna let you brainwash me again!"

"I wouldn't call it brainwashing. I'd call it—what would you call it, sweetie?" Sportsmaster questioned.

"Rearranging some memories and correcting the mistakes." Tigress answered.

"That's brainwashing!" I scold. "You lied to me for--"

"Ten years! Yeah, yeah, yeah, we heard it before." He groaned in annoyance. "We're terrible parents, you'll get your revenge, and blah blah blah blah blah."

They throw me inside the headquarters room and I fall flat on my stomach with a grunt. I lift my head, instantly locking eyes with Principal Bowin, Mr. Sharpe, Mayor Zarrick, and Dr. King seeing as they were circled around me.

I try to push myself up but instantly I feel a force move my arms to my sides and slowly lift me to stand on my feet. An ear-piercing ring echoes through my head which causes me to let out a cry of pain.

"She's growing stronger." Dr. King informed as he examined me. "It's becoming easier for her to recover her memories...I'm guessing her powers are starting to form."

"Can't you just erase the memory of her finding out the truth? I don't understand why all of us need to be here." Mr. Sharpe scoffed in annoyance.

"Because this is the third meltdown this month. We need to come up with a better plan if we want her to stay on course without suspicion." Sportsmaster answered as he annoyingly gestured to me. "She found articles of the night we killed the JSA and figured out that we weren't her real parents."

"I knew I should've taken her in as my daughter because clearly you two bozos don't know the first thing about keeping things from the past hidden from your family." Principal Bowin crossed her arms. "Let alone, parenting."

"We're raising our actual daughter pretty well if I do say so myself." Tigress countered with a huff. "She can snap your kid in half like a twig."

"Enough." Mayor Zarrick sternly scolded, causing them to stay silent. "Brainwave, is there any way you can prevent her from remembering her father?"

"I've never tried it before, but I could put a mind block that I could only take away and it will prevent her mind from remembering the truth of the past. The downside is telling her each of our identities but her main motivation would be to make sure the project succeeds." He explains which causes my eyes to widen. "Maybe destroy medical records."

"Are there any side effects?" Principal Bowin curiously asked.

"She'll have trouble with her nightmares about that night but the mind block should prevent her to look deeper."

"All that oppose to the plan, say aye." Mayor Zarrick suggested as he looked around the room but nobody spoke up. "I see...start the experiment."

"No, no, no, no. Let me go!" I cry out and try to wriggle free as Dr. King moved me closer to him.

"It's pointless to fight. This would all be over soon." He whispered as he lowered me, forcing me to sit on my knees and walked around so he would stand behind me. "This won't hurt a bit."

The next thing I knew, he presses his thumb in the middle of my forehead while the rest of his fingers laid on the side of my head. He uses his other hand to squeeze my shoulder and instantly my vision turned white.

Freya's POV:

"I could hear Henry's thoughts in my head." Courtney rasped as I finished wrapping new bandages around the palms of her hands. "He had no idea what was going on. He was screaming for it to stop. He was so scared and...I was scared too."

"You shouldn't have gone after Cindy alone tonight." I say as I placed the bandages on the desk next to Pat. "You're barely still recovering from the last fight."

Courtney had called me while I was in the middle of doing homework, saying that she tried to go after Cindy who threatened our friend's lives, and was afraid she did something to us when we were in her house.

During their fight, I guess Henry sent this telekinetic blast that forced Courtney and Cindy to split from each other.

"You're missing the point, Freya. I could feel everything he felt. He was...lonely, confused...sad." She listed off. "I wasn't expecting that."

She turns around to Pat expectantly, waiting to hear his response but all he did was stare at the papers in front of him.

"He's not like Cindy. Or even like his father." She added. "I know what he did to Yolanda was awful--"

"It's beyond awful, Court. He ruined her relationship with her family. It's--"

"But I wanna ask him to help us!" She interrupted me before I could continue. Pat slowly turns around with slight shock. "I know it's a risk but if he can read minds, then he could tell us who else is in the ISA." He turns back to the table without saying a word which causes Courtney to furrow her brows in confusion. "Pat? What is it?"

"Our best-case scenario was that the ISA came to Blue Valley after they killed the Justice Society to hide. To go underground and disappear." He explained before he turned around in his chair again to face us. "But if Dr. Ito is Cindy's father...and he's working for them, they're planning something."

Uh oh.

"Well, Beth's goggles said this man was executed for war crimes in 1947." I say, trying to steer them away from their suspicions. "It's highly unlikely that he works in the ISA if he's dead."

"I'm not sure that it's possible to kill Dr. Ito." He pointed to the picture as Courtney grabbed it from him. "He experimented on himself until he evolved into something beyond human, like Cindy, but much, much worse. He calls himself 'Dragon King.' He spent his long life building weapons designed to kill tens of thousands."

"How do you know Dr. Ito is alive but Beth's goggles don't?" Courtney inquired.

"Sylvester and I were part of a different team when we fought Dr. Ito." He says as he reached inside his box and pulled out another picture which showed himself and seven other men dressed in their superhero suits. "This was before we joined the JSA."

From what I learned in the ISA, this was definitely something I didn't know about. "You were part of another team?" I ask.

"Yeah. We called ourselves The Seven Soldiers of Victory."

Courtney grabs the picture from him. "There's Robin Hood and a knight--wait, there were eight of you, Pat."

"Yeah, we always argued about the name." He scratched the back of his neck.

"And you had a cowboy?" I narrow my eyes.

He points to the cowboy on the right. "That's the Vigilante," he points to the man on the way left that wore a cape. "Crimson Avenger," then points to the guy below him. "Wing. They were good men, trying their best. Though each one of them had their struggles. Dr. Ito built a living weapon designed to eradicate New York. We destroyed it." He says as he collects the pictures from us and stood up from his spot and walked over to a box to put them away. "The Seven Soldiers never got the credit that the Justice Society did, but we saved lives, cities, even the world once. I lost touch with all of them years ago. I wish I knew where they were. We need all the help we can get." He crossed his arms.

I share a worried look with Courtney before she turned to face Pat.

"We need Henry."

"Henry?" Yolanda incredulously asked Courtney. "Are you crazy? How can you even think about having him join us after what he did to me?" Her eyes trail to mine since I stood behind Courtney. "Don't tell me you agreed with the idea?"

I sit down in one of the workout benches near the punching bag, staying quiet since I rather have Courtney do the talking.

"People don't change, Court." Rick added as he walked over to stand in front of her. "On the surface, maybe, but never deep down."

I sink further in my spot. Oh god, is this what it's going to be like once I tell them the truth?

"That's not true! Or fair." Beth spoke up as she got off of the stationary bike and walked up to us. "Look at all of us! Yolanda, Me, You, Freya." She pointed to me last, briefly locking eyes with me before she quickly averted them. "We've all changed. Why not Henry?"

"Henry is his father's son." Yolanda emphasized as she took a step closer to Courtney. "He didn't think twice about ruining my life. He'll end up hurting all of you."

"I'm with Yolanda." Rick added. "Helping you against Cindy could be a trap. He could be planning to serve us up."

"Sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith!" Courtney tried to say until Rick let out a scoff.

"Right before you fall on your face." He slightly raised his voice.

"I put faith in all of you, and I'm still on my feet." Courtney stated but noticed that Yolanda ripped off her boxing gloves. "I wish there was another option, but right now, we need every advantage we can get."

Yolanda slung her bag over her shoulders with a glare. "I'm not on any team that includes him." She deadpanned before she exited the gym, walking off into the halls.

Rick gives Courtney a look before he shakes his head with disbelief, grabbing his bag from the floor and walked out as well.

"I should get going. I need to stop by my locker." Courtney sighed as she grabbed her things as well before she turned to me. "Are you still coming with me to the hospital after school?"

My eyes widen slightly, remembering that I had a meeting I had to attend for the ISA. "Oh—uh, yeah. I just need to help my parents out with something and then I'll meet you there."

"All right. See you then." She says before she leaves the room.

I grab my bag from the ground until I noticed the hesitation in Beth's posture. "Beth, what's wrong?" I ask with a bit of suspicion since she was usually joyful and practically says anything that came to her mind.

"What? Nothings wrong! Why would something be wrong?" She rambled. "If something was wrong, I wouldn't hide it from you, because I'm a horrible liar and..." She trails off, seeing my unamused expression before she lets out a sigh. "Okay, you caught me."

I motion for her to continue. "What did you do?"

"Well...it's more of what Chuck did." She nervously scratched the back of her neck. "He scanned you when we were at Cindy's."

My eyes widen. "He what?"

"But not completely!" She quickly assured. "He was about to but I took them off before he did because I knew you weren't a big fan of me finding out the small stuff about you."

"So, what's the problem then?" I crossed my arms.

"I promise I saw one thing and...I don't know how you're going to feel about it." She said as she hesitantly took a seat next to me.

"It depends. Is it serious?" She slowly nods. "Like...death-related serious?"

"Uh...I'm not exactly sure." She fiddled with her fingers. "At first, all I saw was the height, weight, blood type, and it was interesting to read until...it compared with your parents."

I furrow my brows in confusion. "What about them?"

"Your DNA doesn't have any similarities with them." She hesitantly answered. "He was about to dig deeper into your life but I stopped him before he could. I didn't mean to cross your boundaries but I couldn't keep this from you."

This couldn't mean anything serious, right? I mean, maybe it's a glitch.

The glasses don't know anything about me, why am I stressed about it? Wait, am I even stressed about it?

The worst-case scenario, they held the information about me being adopted because they wanted me to stay focused. Maybe I was too young to understand why I wasn't with my real family.

But then again...I'm fifteen. Why hide it for so long?

"Freya," Beth's voice breaks me out of my thoughts. "maybe Chuck got the information wrong. Maybe we can have a proper scan and--"

I quickly stand up from my spot. "I'll see you later, Beth."

"Wait, Freya!" I hear her call out but I already had left the room.

"You said you had news." Anaya Bowin clasped her hands together as the rest of the ISA members were seated around the table.

"Not me." Jordan answered as he walked to his chair.

The sounds of footsteps coming down the stairs causes all of our heads to turn, watching as the Dragon King himself along with his two hooded servants come down the steps.

"Dragon King." Steven greeted.

"It's Dr. Ito, please." He corrected at ease, walking over behind one of the empty chairs that used to be Mayor Zarick's. "Good afternoon, everyone. What a wonderful day."

My dad dryly chuckles. "Oh, did you make it out of the dungeon today?" He mockingly joked.

Jordan sends a look of annoyance to him and he instantly stays quiet.

"May I sit?" Dr. Ito politely asked.

Everyone shares uncomfortable expressions until Jordan gestured for him to sit as he sat down in his chair in between Steven and my mom. "Of course. Please."

"Thank you." Dr. Ito spoke. His two hooded servants pull out the chair for him to sit and carefully push him in but Anaya scooted away from him.

I cross my arms with a quiet scoff. I've worked for years to even be allowed in their meetings here but this guy easily waltzed in.

"I know we've had our conflicts in the past, but be assured, I am your ally in the Project: New America." Dr. Ito assured, making sure to look at each of us in the eyes.

"Why don't you tell them the news, Dr. Ito?" Jordan suggested.

"Yes." He cleared his throat as he pushed the chair back a bit to stand up. "We no longer need to wait for Brainwave to awaken. His son, Henry, is a telepath."

How the hell did he know?

My parents turn to look at me curiously but I kept my stares towards the monitor that lit up to life which revealed the map of the United States along with the blueprints of the satellite dish.

"The amplifier will be complete within the week. Once it is, we can funnel Henry's telepathic abilities through it, broadcasting them across six states, taking control of every fully developed mind within them." He explained as the monitor showed the blue wave that rippled Nebraska, Kansas, Wisconsin, Iowa, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Colorado.

The wave slowly began to ripple across the states in the middle, showing that if it went well and the progress succeeded, we would expand the signal.

"Carving out a new America." Dr. Ito emphasized as he held his hands out. "Our America."
