Freya's POV:
"Are you crazy?" I exclaim but Courtney shushes me, quickly looking around to make sure none of the students in the hallway were watching. "Not only did you sneak back in to the JSA's old headquarters, but you stole all of their stuff!" I scold as I gestured to the picture on her phone where it had several of the suits folded neatly on her bed. "What the hell is wrong with you?"
"We need help. You said it yourself, it would take more than us to stop the Injustice Society which is why we need a team." She pointed to the suits with a grin.
I roll my eyes in annoyance. "And who exactly were you going to recruit?"
"I already decided on two of them, actually." She said, shutting off her phone before grabbing something from her backpack. She pulls out the large golden helmet and quickly puts it in my locker which causes my eyes to widen. "I'm looking at the next Doctor Fate."
"You're joking. I'm not--" I tried to give her back the helmet but she pushed it back in the locker.
"Freya," She groaned. "I saw you staring at this thing when we were down there. It was meant to be yours."
"I didn't even agree to being involved with this!" I exclaim and push the helmet back to her.
"You had a good amount of chances to tell me to screw off but you didn't, did you?" She pointed out which caused me to glare. "See! You know I'm right." She shoves the helmet back inside.
"I don't even have any powers, Courtney." I tried to argue but she rolled her eyes. "I'm not qualified for this."
"You don't need to have powers to be a superhero. Batman didn't have any."
I furrow my brows in confusion. "He's rich and smart."
"Look, if you can help me convince this person to be in the team, you can give back the Doctor Fate helmet and I won't ask you anymore, okay?" She held out her hand. "I promise."
I glance between the suit and her hand before I roll my eyes and shook her hand. "Deal." I shut my locker. "Who else were you looking to recruit?"
She opens the yearbook she had in her hands and flips through a couple of pages until it lands on a picture of Yolanda who posed with her boxing glove and a smirk.
"Really? You think she would say yes?" I ask but Courtney shrugs.
"Doesn't hurt to try."
"What did you just say to my boyfriend, huh?" We look up and see Cindy and Jenny, taunting Yolanda by her locker again. "Something dirty, I bet. Listen, he's seen enough of you. Got it? Everyone has. So stay away from him."
I try to take a step forward but Courtney grabs my arm. "What? Weren't you telling me the other day to start standing up for her?"
"Yeah, but with words. You looked like you were gonna kill her." Courtney hesitantly explained. "Let me try this time, okay?"
"Fine." I huffed and she walks ahead first with me trailing behind.
"Stop it." Courtney scolded, causing the girls to turn towards her. "What's your problem?"
"You have no idea who you're messing with." Cindy harshly remarked.
"Neither do you." Courtney glared and I noticed Yolanda slowly begin to back away from them.
Cindy slightly tilted her head and took a step closer to Courtney. "You will never see me coming." She menacingly whispered before she and Jenny walked inside the classroom nearby.
"Come on," I nudge Courtney's arm. "Yolanda went this way."
We speed walk to the next hallway and see Yolanda with her books close to her chest as she continued to head to her class.
"Yolanda, wait!" Courtney called with me trailing behind her. "Yolanda!"
"What do you want?" Yolanda asked with a bit of frustration as she continued to walk.
"We're just trying to help you." Courtney tried to explain which caused Yolanda to pause in her steps and turn towards us.
"You can help me by leaving me alone." She harshly emphasized. "That's all I want, from everyone." She enters inside the classroom without another word and I glance to Courtney, seeing the saddened look on her face.
"Now what?" I ask, breaking the silence. "Do you have another?
"I'm not giving up on her yet."

"You hear that?" Courtney whispered, hearing the sounds of punches being hit against a punching bag followed with a few grunts. "It's gotta be her."
She gestures for me to follow her and we walk towards the wide-open doors that led inside the training room for the football team.
I couldn't help but stare in an awe at each punch Yolanda threw against the bag at an impressive speed.
"No wonder you want her as Wildcat." I whisper to Courtney who smiled in satisfaction.
Yolanda finally takes notice of our presence which earned caused her to scowl. "You've got to stop following me around."
"I can't." Courtney sighed and approached her as Yolanda continued to punch the bag. "I said it wrong. It's not you who needs my help, i-it's me who needs your help."
"What?" Yolanda questioned as she moved to a different position.
"There's something going on here." Courtney tried to explain as she worriedly glanced at the exit doors, making sure no one else was around.
"Yeah, I have two lunatics following me around." Yolanda briefly glanced at me before she continued to throw punches.
"She means here in Blue Valley." I hesitantly speak up and Courtney nods in agreement.
"I need you to help me fight it." She added.
Yolanda threw one last punch at the bag before she yanked off her glove as she breathed heavily. "Listen, I don't want anything to do with you, blondie, or anyone in this school, and there's nothing you can say to change that." She harshly stated before shoving her boxing gloves in her bag.
Ouch.
"Come over, tonight, I--stay for dinner even! I'll explain everything and if you're still not sold, I promise I'll never bother you again." Courtney pleaded before she quickly took out her phone from her pocket. "Here, text me your number."
"My mom took my phone." Yolanda responded as she lifted her bag from the floor and slung it over her shoulder.
She walks around me but Courtney quickly walks to stand in front of her. "Uh, wait, okay, wait, wait." She takes out her mini notepad from her bag and scribbles something down. "Just come, please. six-thirty." She tears the piece of paper and hands it to Yolanda who reluctantly takes it.
"I'm not promising anything." She waved the paper before she walked out of the training room.
"See you tonight!" Courtney called out before she let out a sigh. "I don't think she's coming."
"You did pick a girl who hates everyone." I say and she takes a seat on one of the benches. "Also we looked like stalkers."
"I wish she would just give us a chance. Pretty sure the consistent taunts from Cindy made Yolanda put her walls high." She muttered in annoyance.
"Well...with what happened three months ago," I take a seat as well. "I wouldn't want to talk to anyone either."
Her brows furrow in confusion. "What do you mean? What happened?"
"You still don't know?"
FLASHBACK TO THREE MONTHS AGO
"So who did you vote for?" I hear someone ask nearby which causes me to look away from my locker, seeing two girls in the middle of a conversation.
"I would've said Cindy but Yolanda seems like a nicer person, to be honest." The girl answered and her friend nods in agreement. "Besides, she passed out cookies with her name on them. It's pretty creative if you ask me."
"True. Can't go wrong with cookies." Her friend added before they continued to walk in the hall.
"Hey," I turn, seeing a brown-eyed latina my age with dark wavy hair. "I just wanted to ask if you voted anyone for class president yet?"
I glance at the long line that led inside the classroom where it was set up as the drop box. "Of course not."
"Great, that means my speech didn't go to complete waste." She said and I raise a brow, grabbing my binder from my locker before I closed it. "I hope you take it into consideration that you vote for me as class president. I noticed that our school tends to be more...focused in our sports department instead of the art, music, and much more that are so so under-appreciated. If I win, I'll make sure that all the departments are treated as equal instead of putting most of funds towards only one department."
From behind her head, I could see a poster of her cheekily smiling with the words 'VOTE FOR YOLANDA' in bold yellow letters.
"All right," I say as I bring my books close to my chest which causes her to smile. "but I'll stick with my vote on Cindy." I emphasize which causes her smile to drop.
"What? Why?"
"She gave a better introduction." I interrupt with sarcasm laced in my tone. "While you on the other hand, not so much."
She nods slowly with an amused expression. "I didn't tell you my name, did I?"
"Nope. It's a decent speech but it could have a few tweaks." I bring my books close to my chest but she rolls her eyes. "I'll see whether or not I'll have the motivation to vote for you."
She unpins the button that was clipped to her jacket and pins it to my backpack strap. "Would this count as motivation?"
"For you," I raise a brow, acting as if I was in deep thought. "I'll think it over."
A tint of pink flushes her cheeks. "Nice."
I glance at the line behind her, seeing that it was starting to get shorter which caused me to clear my throat. "I would say I should get in line before it gets long again but from the looks of it, you've done a lot of campaigning." I say, gesturing to some of the students who were wearing the buttons she made. "It looks like you'll win."
"Thanks to my boyfriend, Henry," She sighed as she rubbed the back of her neck. "he made sure the entire football team would help me."
"You sure nobody paid him?" I question and she gives a small smile before I walk to the line to vote. "Good luck."
NEXT DAY
"And I present to you all, Yolanda Montez who will be your new class president!" Principal Bowin announced to the entire school.
The entire gym applauded, some holding up signs with Yolanda's face which caused me to smile at the support she had made. Especially from Artemis who had one of the signs and was cheering for her as well.
I mean, except for Cindy and Jenny who wore looks of annoyance. Jenny was holding a mini face of Cindy but was practically scowling.
"Someone seems like they're having a good day. It's just class president." I elbow Cindy since she ended up sitting next to me. "Are you afraid that the seat in the ISA will be given to me?" I cockily whisper with a smirk and see her jaw clench.
"As if. That spot is mine." She remarked.
Yolanda stepped up to the podium once Principal Bowin moved to the side and she cleared her throat with a smile. "Thank you so much for electing me. It means a lot to know that you all have your full trust in me." She nervously laughed, earning several more cheers from the audience. "I appreciate every single one of you and I promise that I won't let any of you down. There may be moments where I'll stumble, but with the right people I have on my side, I know we can push through it together."
"Let's see if she can stumble out of this one." I hear Cindy say which causes me to turn, seeing that she swiped something across the screen of her cellphone.
"I promise to uphold the expectations Principal Bowin kept for our school and that our class will strive to have a successful--"
Suddenly, dozens of cellphones began to ring which caused Yolanda to stop mid-sentence with her brows furrowed in confusion.
"No way, she actually did that?" I hear a guy whisper next to me as he began to show his friends.
Dozens of the people around us gasped and began to glance between Yolanda and their cellphones with shock and amusement written all over their expressions.
I feel my phone buzz in my pocket, seeing that I had an unknown number send me a photo. I click open the tab and my eyes widen in shock, seeing a topless selfie of Yolanda.
Oh my god.
My face flushed in embarrassment and I look up to Yolanda, but she already had looked down to her phone as well.
Tears began to brim her eyes and she looked back to the crowd as they continued to laugh at her until she eventually ran off the stage.
I quickly get out of my seat, not even caring if Principal Bowin was scolding the entire school to settle down, and ran after Yolanda.
I frantically look around for the girl in the halls, but didn't see a single person anywhere. It was completely deserted.
"Did she not like the surprise?" I turn around and see Cindy walk in the hall with a smirk on her face as she wiggled the phone in her hands. "What a shame."
I quickly rush towards her and pin her to the lockers by pressing my arm against her throat with a glare. "She won that fair and square and you know it."
"Oh, I didn't know you two were best friends." She fake pouted.
"We're not." I hissed. "I'm just saying how could you stoop this low to become class president?"
"I have no idea what you're talking about." She shrugged innocently. "In her eyes, she probably thinks it's Henry because he was the only person she sent those pictures to. I mean, except for the fact he shared it with his friends but I managed to get a copy."
I scrunch my nose in disgust. "You're sick."
She instantly flips us around and grabs me by the throat. "I'd call it smart, because with her out of the way, it makes things easier to keep an eye on Henry for Brainwave." I try to claw her grip out but she firmly held her place, not even showing a bit of struggle. "This proves that I would go to any lengths for the ISA. If you want to have a chance to beat me," She leans closer to my face with a smirk. "I suggest you find a way fast."
She moves her hand off from my throat and I instantly let out a gasp for air. I look back up to meet her eyes but see her walk back inside with a smirk, leaving me alone in the empty hallway.
FLASHBACK END
"What happened after?" Courtney softly asked. "Did you get to talk to her?"
"Couldn't find her." I solemnly shake my head, purposely leaving out my interactions with Cindy. "I thought she would come back to school, but..she never came back for awhile. Cindy took her class president spot by default and made sure she ended up just...being an outcast I guess. All because Henry decided to share the photo of Yolanda with his friends."
Her eyes widen slightly. "I think I know how we can get her to at least come over." Courtney patted my arm with a smile.
"What?"
"You said you never got to comfort her, right?" She asked and I nodded. "Talk to her again tomorrow. Try to convince her that what happened to her wasn't her fault."
"You want me to go alone? " I questioned, not wanting to have the conversation at all. "Yeah, no thanks. You can try again."
"You were there when it happened, I wasn't! You were the only one who wanted to put an effort in the beginning to try to be there for her but never got the chance to. Trust me, she'll come over if you convince her."
"That was the past." I harshly state, remembering Jordan's deal of telling him everything about Courtney's schemes. "I'm not putting the effort now."
"We had a deal, Freya. If you help me get a teammate, I won't bother you about becoming Doctor Fate." She reminded and I bumped my back of my head on the wall with a sigh.
"Fine."
