Beyond the Light of Friendship
As the smoke slowly cleared away, both trainers were feeling anxious to see which of their Charizards was victorious. When the smoke finally cleared, they saw one of the Flame Pokemon standing up straight, while the other one was laying on the ground unconscious. The unconscious Charizard's trainer grunts in frustration over its defeat. As for the victorious Charizard's trainer, he breathes a sigh of relief and his face expresses joy in his heart that his Charizard was the winner of this challenging matchup.
"I'm glad that's over," said Trevor, smiling over his Charizard's outstanding victory against Mega Charizard X. "Awesome job, Charizard! I'm very proud of you!"
Although his Charizard is almost completely exhausted from its intense battle, the Flame Pokemon was able to let out a Flamethrower of celebration. Its trainer smiled at this sight. However, the celebrations were brought to an end by the soft voice of the mysterious man, who returned his unconscious Charizard to its Pokeball. Trevor could hear the somber, yet anger tone in the man's voice.
"My Charizard...My closest friend...The Pokemon I shared an incredible bond with...Even with Mega Evolution, it still lost to your regular Charizard..." The man stated as he gritted his teeth out of frustration. "How is that possible?"
"Blaze!" Trevor responded to the mysterious man's question. "My Charizard's Blaze ability was activated after it came out of the waters. Its Blaze increased the power of the Blast Burn that defeated your Mega Charizard X who was paralyzed and did not have enough strength to make that one last push with its Giga Impact. You raised your Charizard well, but me and my Charizard have been through years of experiences and training together in the toughest of climates. Our victory here today proves it!"
Charizard and Gregor nodded in agreement with their trainer before all three were gazing upon the man in the red-black coat standing across from them. Suddenly, they hear a soft chuckle coming from the unknown figure. Trevor was puzzled about the mysterious man's reaction.
"What's so funny?" Trevor asked his opponent with cautiousness in his voice.
"You think you've already won?" The chuckling man responded while extending his arm outward. "Well, this test is far from over."
"So you've got one more Pokemon, huh?" Trevor questioned the mysterious man, as a Master Ball suddenly appears out of thin air and in the palm of his hand. The sight of the Master Ball made both Trevor and Mewtwo gasped in shock and moved back a bit out of nervousness. "Judging from that Master Ball, I'll say your last Pokemon must be that powerful."
"Oh, yes," The man said, as he showed off the Master Ball to his cautious opponent. "The Pokemon you're about to face is one you've never encountered or battled before. Not even your Mewtwo stands a chance against it."
Trevor takes a look at his Mewtwo and notices the determination and passion in its eyes. They both looked at each other and nodded as if they understood what needed to be done right now. Trevor takes out Charizard's Pokeball and returns the Flame Pokemon to it. Then, the Genetic Pokemon walks onto the battlefield and lets out a deafening battle cry that shook the area. It was ready to battle whatever Pokemon comes out of that Master Ball.
"We'll see about that," Trevor said, while confidently grinning.
After hearing and witnessing the responses from Trevor and Gregor, the mysterious man tosses the Master Ball into the air. When the light faded away, the Pokemon that came out of the Master Ball surprised both Trevor and his Mewtwo. Trevor gasped in horror at the mysterious man's last Pokemon. That confident grin on Trevor's face was quickly replaced with his mouth wide opened out of shock. He could feel his stomach tighten as he continued to stare at his Mewtwo's opponent.
"T-T-That P-Pokemon is..." Trevor stuttered his words as he tried to say the name of the mysterious figure's Pokemon.
The mysterious man's Pokemon is an alien-like bipedal Pokémon. Its skin color is red, its face is light blue, and there are three light blue dots on its back arranged in a triangle. There is also a purple stripe running down the center of its face and a purple, crystalline organ in its chest. Its white, circular eyes are set inside rectangular, black eye sockets. The Pokemon has tapering legs with a segmented, vertical, blue stripe on the upper portion. The abdomen is black with vertical lines, while the majority of its skin is reddish-orange. The arms are capable of taking different forms, usually a pair of tentacles coiled in a double helix. One tentacle is the primary skin color, while the other is light blue.
"...Deoxys," Trevor said, coming out of his shocked state over the revelation that the mysterious man's final Pokemon was the DNA Pokemon that came from outer space, Deoxys.
"Well," Gregor responded with a grin on its face, upon discovering that Deoxys was to be its opponent. "A worthy opponent for me. I'm quite honored."
"So," The man in the red-black coat said to his awe-struck opponent. "You recognize this Pokemon?"
"I haven't seen one, but Pokemon Ranger Solana once told me about her encounter with a Deoxys, and that it was difficult to catch. It's also an extremely rare Pokemon and hard to find. With that being said, how did you manage to find one?" Trevor explained how he knew Deoxys and started asking questions to the man in the red-black coat.
"Where I found it is of no importance." The mysterious figure stated while Trevor grunts out of annoyance. "Right now, you're about to face my final test. Show me Mewtwo's true strength and the power of your bond with it."
"Gladly," Trevor responded as he called out the first attack. "Gregor, use Shadow Ball!"
The Genetic Pokemon puts its hands together and forms a black ball of energy. Gregor then fires it at the DNA Pokemon.
"Protect." The mysterious man calmly said, as his Deoxys started to change form.
As Deoxys changes to its Defense Forme, it now has bulky, wide legs that are somewhat flat at the end with a bluish-green spot on each knee. It retains its two pairs of red and blue tentacles, but they are now flat and broad. The head has fused with its body and all protrusions are gone, causing it to resemble a helmet. The reddish-orange skin now covers the entire body, so none of its inner black portions are visible. There is now a single blue stripe on each shoulder, and its tail has disappeared.
Defense Forme Deoxys crouches together and a purple barrier appears around it, blocking the incoming Shadow Ball. Gregor softly grunts in frustration over its attack being blocked.
"Extreme Speed." The man said to his Pokemon, as it changes form once again.
Deoxys changes to its Speed Forme. In that form, it has a sleek black body with thin striation. The reddish-orange skin now covers only its head, hip joints, and the area around its crystal. There is now only one tentacle on each side of its body, one red and one blue. The protrusions on its head now point upward and the back of its head now forms a long spike. There is a long, thick blue stripe running down the center of this longer protrusion. More blue stripes appear on either the hip joint and its legs.
"Gregor, dodge it!" Trevor shouted.
However, just as it was about to evade the attack, Deoxys tackles the Genetic Pokemon at an incredible speed, while its body is surrounded by a green aura. Trevor gasped upon the speed of Deoxys and how it allowed it to land a blow onto Gregor, which isn't easy to do for a normal Pokemon. However, Deoxys wasn't like any other Pokemon they have battled before. It was in a league of its own.
Gregor let out a soft grunt of pain from that attack but was able to shake it off. Trevor grits his teeth as he orders his next attack.
"Use Psychic!" Trevor commanded his Pokemon, as its eyes glow light blue.
Suddenly, the ground in front of Gregor was glowing light-blue as well. The ground is slowly being lifted by Gregor's psychic powers. The Genetic Pokemon's hand then crunched into a fist, which caused the levitating earth to be broken into small-size spear-shaped projectiles. The Genetic Pokemon extends its hand outward while pointing at the DNA Pokemon. With that motion, Gregor sends the spears of earth flying towards Deoxys.
"Protect, once more." The unknown figure said with a grin, as Deoxys changes into its Defense Forme, and then crouches together, forming a purple barrier that prevents the spears of earth from damaging the DNA Pokemon.
At the exact moment when Deoxys changed back to its Normal Forme, Trevor quickly made his move.
"Shadow Ball! Quick!" Trevor yelled out his command to Gregor.
The Genetic Pokemon forms a ball of purple energy, and with swiftness in its movement, fires it upon the changing DNA Pokemon. The Ghost-type attack lands a blow on Deoxys as the DNA Pokemon softly groans in pain. However, it was able to shrug it off like it was just a mere scratch. Without expressing any worry or concern at all, the mysterious man calls out his next attack, with Trevor doing the same.
"Dark Pulse." The unknown man said to his Pokemon.
"Ice Beam!" Trevor called out his counter to his opponent's attack.
When Deoxys hears its trainer's command, it immediately transforms into its Attack Forme. While in this form, its legs remain tapered. However, its blue stripes are no longer segmented and run the entire length of the leg and there is now a large spike on the knee. Two pairs of whip-like tentacles with pointed tips, one reddish-orange and one blue, replace its previous coiled, blunted tentacles. The protrusions on its head are now triangular with an additional one extending from the top of its head. Most of its reddish-orange skin has receded, revealing a striated, black chest and abdomen. Finally, its tail is now longer and more pointed.
From in between its tentacles, the DNA Pokemon fires a beam of black and purple circles at Gregor, who responds by firing light blue beams from the ball of light blue energy in between its hand. The two beams collided, resulting in an explosion at the center and smoke covering the area. Just before the smoke could be cleared away, Trevor suddenly hears a distress call from his Pokemon.
"Trevor!" Gregor yelled out.
When the smoke finally lifted, Trevor gasped in horror as he saw Deoxys, in its Speed Forme, binding Gregor in its tentacles, and the Genetic Pokemon struggling to get itself out of it.
"Oh no! Gregor, use Psy-" Trevor tried to give Gregor an order, but he was interrupted by the softness in the man in the red-black coat's voice.
"Hyper Beam." The man said, without expressing any mercy in his voice toward Trevor's Mewtwo.
Trevor gasped as he watched Deoxys, still binding his Pokemon, change to its Attack Forme, and started creating an orange ball of energy in its chest. Without hesitation, Deoxys fires a beam of orange energy directly into Gregor's back. The Genetic Pokemon cries out in great agony, while an explosion occurs where Deoxys was binding Gregor in its tentacles. When the smoke fades away, the DNA Pokemon releases the Genetic Pokemon from its tight hold over it. Once it did, Gregor collapses to the ground and starts breathing heavily.
"Gregor! No!" Trevor shouted out of fear and concern for his Pokemon's condition.
Gregor struggles to get back up on its feet, much to the dismay of the mysterious man, as a small frown formed on his shadow-covered face. Eventually, Gregor was able to lift itself but still breathes heavily. Trevor's face formed a small, yet forced, smile as he saw his Pokemon's determination to win this battle helped it get back up on its feet.
"Gregor..." Trevor softly said as he stared at his barely conscious Pokemon with extreme concern in his eyes. "Can you still fight?
"Yes, Trevor," Gregor answered its trainer while taking deep breaths in between its words. "As long as you believe in me, I will keep on fighting to my last breath."
Trevor firmly nodded, agreeing with his Pokemon one-hundred percent. He then takes out the Mewtwonite Y from his pocket. When he did, it got the undivided attention of the mysterious man across from him. He gazes at the Mega Stone with his wide-opened eyes, filled with surprise, as he already knows what Trevor is about to do.
"I do believe in you, Gregor," Trevor stated, as he starts walking over to his bruised Pokemon. When he reaches the Genetic Pokemon, Trevor kneels next to Gregor and extends his arm outwards, with the Mewtwonite Y sitting in the palm of his hand. Gregor looks down at the Mega Stone and then looks back at Trevor, who has a small smile on his face, with its mouth hanging open loosely and its eyes widen. "You've always done your absolute best for me, whenever we are in a tight jam in battle. I never had a reason to ever doubt your passion or determination."
"Thanks, Trevor, I needed that," Gregor replied as it grabs the Mewtwonite Y from Trevor's hand and holds it near its heart. The Genetic Pokemon then looks back at its trainer with a small smile and its eyes closed. "Our friendship is the source of my strength and power, and it is limitless."
"That's right, Gregor. It is," Trevor said, as he walked back to where he had been standing throughout the battle. When he got back to his spot, he quickly turned around to face his unknown opponent and his DNA Pokemon with fierce determination and confidence burning in his eyes. The man in the red-black coat steps back a bit, as he is shocked to see Mewtwo's fighting spirit has not been shattered.
"Our bond is your power, and it's also mine!" Trevor exclaimed as he activated the Key Stone in his Mega Ring, which also activated the Mega Stone that Gregor is holding close to its heart. "Time for Mega Evolution!"
At the mention of those words, beams of lights come out of both Trevor's Mega Ring and Gregor's Mega Stone. The lights meet with each other in between the trainer and his Pokemon. The Genetic Pokemon's body becomes consumed by a bright light, and its appearance starts to transform drastically. When the bright light faded away, it revealed the drastic changes to Mewtwo's overall look. It's now smaller and lighter, as it loses its long tail and the tube behind its neck. However, it has grown a long, purple appendage with a curled tip from the back of its head that is similar to its previous form's tail. On its head, it has two pointed, backward-curving spikes and a half-ring structure connecting to the base of each and crossing over the top of its head. Its eyes are now red and slightly larger. The digits on its hands and feet are now purple and more bulbous and the middle toe is longer than the others. A bumpy ridge similar to a sternum replaces the breastplate structure on its chest, but still smoother than its original form.
Following its transformation, Mega Mewtwo Y lets out a more deafening battle cry than before that echoed throughout the cave and causes the crystals on the walls to break off from the rocky surface. Despite its overwhelming display of power, both the mysterious man and Deoxys were not amused by it. However, the man in the red-black coat grits his teeth as he failed to knock out Mewtwo before this could happen. He shrugs off his frustration, as he gazes upon his opponent, who had a serious look in his eyes and on his face.
"You may have Mega Evolved your Pokemon, but it won't do you any good." The man responded to Gregor's Mega Evolution. "It's all over. Deoxys, use Zap Cannon."
The DNA Pokemon changes from its Normal Forme to its Attack Forme and then puts its tentacles together, and a yellow ball of electricity forms in between them. It then fires the ball at the Genetic Pokemon. Both Trevor and Gregor grinned as they knew exactly what to do.
"Here we go! Use Psychic on that Zap Cannon!" Trevor shouted with confidence ringing from his voice.
Mega Mewtwo Y's eyes glow purple and a light blue aura rises from its body. It lifts one hand towards the Electric-type attack and its fingers also glow purple. The ball of electricity becomes surrounded by a purple aura, and Gregor can control its movement. The mysterious man grunts in frustration over this, while Trevor smiles brightly.
"Now, send it back!" Trevor commanded his Psychic-type Pokemon.
With a flick of Gregor's finger, the yellow ball of electricity is sent right back towards the DNA Pokemon, with Gregor's Psychic providing the extra speed for the Zap Cannon, so that it could reach its target. The ball of electricity strikes Deoxys in its chest, resulting in the DNA Pokemon letting out a cry of pain and its body is now covered with yellow sparks. The sparks of electricity are overwhelming the DNA Pokemon's body, often preventing it from making any movements. In his response to his Pokemon being paralyzed, the man in the red-black coat growls out of anger towards his grinning opponents across from him. Then, both Trevor and the mysterious man called out their next attacks.
"Me First!"
"Psycho Boost!"
Both Gregor and Deoxys, still in its Attack Forme, fire a glowing multi-colored ball of energy, and the balls of energy collide with each other, causing an explosion to happen at the epicenter. Before the smoke could clear, the mysterious figure made his move.
"Extreme Speed." He said, hoping to repeat the damage he inflicted upon Mewtwo from before.
However, just as Deoxys, who's now in its Speed Forme, charges into the cloud of smoke, it cannot seem to locate Gregor at all. Then suddenly, the Genetic Pokemon appears right behind the DNA Pokemon in the haze. When Deoxys swiftly turned around and noticed his opponent, it tried to grab Gregor with its tentacles; however, this Genetic Pokemon wasn't going to let it happen again. This time, Gregor comes prepared, as it creates a white force field that expands rapidly from its body and explodes upon contact with the panicking DNA Pokemon.
The explosion sent Deoxys flying towards the wall, while the DNA Pokemon let out a loud cry of pain when it crashed into the wall. The man in the red-black coat gasped in horror and his eyes expressed disbelief that Mewtwo was able to strike back against Deoxys in the clouds of smoke. As for Trevor, he was smiling brightly as he knew Gregor would not let Deoxys grab it again.
As the DNA Pokemon struggles to get up, Gregor levitates over to where Deoxys crashed into the wall. When Gregor gets there, it simply levitates in front of Deoxys, while staring directly into its completely exhausted eyes with a killer's look. Deoxys' face expressed anger towards the grinning Mewtwo and its eyes were burning with fierce determination to not succumb to its injuries.
These two powerful Pokemon weren't going to let the other win; however, they do have their limits on how far they can push themselves to fight before they faint out of exhaustion. Knowing this, Trevor and the mysterious man both called out what they believe will bring this battle to an absolute conclusion.
"HYPER BEAM!" Both trainers exclaimed at the top of their lungs.
The Genetic Pokemon was the first to fire its orange beam of energy. As for Deoxys, just as it was about to fire its beam of energy, yellow sparks of electricity covering its entire body prevented it from firing its Hyper Beam. The man in the red-black coat gasped in horror and his eyes were wide open when this happened, while a big smirk formed on Trevor's face as this situation happened to him before. He's glad that it was his opponent that has to deal with it.
Deoxys could only watch as Gregor's beam of orange energy directly hits it in the chest area and sends it flying towards the wall. The DNA Pokemon cries out in great agony as its body cannot take much more of this torture and abuse. At first, the mysterious man frowns that he's about to lose; but then, a small smile slowly forms on his face. He then stares at the young Pokemon Ranger who is about to defeat him. He smiles at him before he turns back to his Pokemon, who continues crying out in pain. He lifts his head down, knowing that the battle is over. He had lost.
Eventually, Gregor ceased its attack on the DNA Pokemon, to see if it's down for the count. The DNA Pokemon collapses to the ground with its eyes closed. The sight of the knocked out Deoxys allowed Trevor to breathe a sigh of relief, as he walked over to his victorious Pokemon. A bright light then consumed Gregor's body, and when it faded away, Gregor's physical appearance was back to normal. The Genetic Pokemon, whose body is still bruised from the battle, first looks at its defeated Pokemon, and then looks at its trainer with a smile on its face, expressing its happiness and joy over defeating the powerful Deoxys.
"We did it, Gregor," Trevor said to the Genetic Pokemon with a smile on his face. "We defeated Deoxys together."
"We sure did," Gregor stated as Trevor and the Genetic Pokemon high five each other out of joy over their victory here today.
"Now, what about..." Trevor started to say, before noticing a red light hitting the body of the knocked out Deoxys.
His eyes follow the beam of red light to its source. The red light recalls the DNA Pokemon back to its Master Ball, which the mysterious man holds in his hand. The Master Ball then suddenly vanishes out of thin air. Trevor and Gregor both stared at their mysterious opponent with curiosity and cautious in their body language. They do not know what this guy will do to them next. Finally, the man in the red-black coat starts to speak.
"Impressive..." He said in a soft voice.
"Huh?" Trevor reacted to the mysterious man's comment.
"Your father would be so proud of you..." The man praised Trevor's battling skills, which made the young Pokemon Ranger speechless. "You might be able to help us out..."
"What do you mean?" A puzzled Trevor asked the unknown figure, who then turned away from him and Gregor.
"A bigger threat is coming..." The man said to the confused Pokemon Ranger. "Beware the fires of chaos...and disorder..."
"Huh? What are you talking about?" Trevor questioned the man in the red-black coat in a harsh voice, as he's annoyed with the mysterious figure's cryptic words.
"It is beyond your comprehension, for now." The man responded softly, as he turned back to look at Michael Hallett's son, for one last time. "Until we meet again..."
"Wait! What are you-" Trevor was about to ask him; however, the man in the red-black coat starts to slowly fade away. A stunned Trevor had so many questions left unanswered. He thinks of the one question that he wanted to ask that guy ever since he first showed up. "Who are you?"
"I am..." The man answered in his soft voice, as his body became even more transparent; before eventually, becoming invisible to Trevor and Gregor's eyes. However, they can still hear the very last words of their mysterious opponent in his answer to Trevor's question.
"...but a mere shell."
The whole area was silent, as Trevor and Gregor took in what that guy had just told them. Eventually, the Genetic Pokemon broke the silence when he put its hand on a deep-thinking Trevor's shoulder. The warm touch of comfort snapped Trevor out of his thoughts.
"Well, he was right about one thing," Gregor commented about what the mysterious man told them.
"What's that?" Trevor asked his Pokemon, who gave its trainer a comforting smile.
"Your father would be very proud of you and your achievements in life," Gregor answered while making Trevor smile brightly.
"Thanks, Gregor," Trevor said, before looking around their surroundings. "Now then, let's head to the Pokemon Center and get you and the others heal up before we return home. We don't wanna make Stufful worried if it sees its mother all bruised up and stuff."
"Agreed," Gregor responded as the two started making their way out of the cave. "Plus, we need Charizard to get home in time for the anniversary dinner."
"That's right," Trevor stated as Gregor uses Psychic to levitate them across the cave's waters. "You know how much I hate to be late."
Gregor nodded as it put itself and Trevor safely down on the ground. They started to exit out of the end-chamber until Trevor stopped and took one last look at the small isle where he battled against that unknown trainer. Although the mysterious figure kinda answered his question, Trevor was still puzzled by what his true identity was, as his thoughts kept asking the same questions.
Who was that guy? How does he know Riku?
---
Meanwhile, in another world...
On a small island, where the area is naturally covered in yellow sandy beaches, exotic trees and shrubbery, and wooden constructions, two people, which consists of a man, and a Pokemon, are sitting on a crooked palm tree, which grows star-shaped fruits and enjoying the beautiful island sunset that has brought their day of training to a peaceful end.
The man wears a black, hooded jacket that he keeps unzipped, with short sleeves, gold buttons, and a checkered pattern at the hem. Underneath, he wears a white shirt with a V-neck. He also wears blue cropped trousers that are hemmed with the same checkered pattern as the jacket, black glovelettes on each hand, and black high-top boots. His silver hair is short length but appears more spiked up in the back.
Sitting next to the silver-haired man is a large bipedal Pokémon resembling a humanoid black bear-like Pokémon with a wushu motif. It has a muscular build with long legs and long arms with large paws and claws for striking. Its body and head are covered in gray, black, and white fur, minus the yellow muzzle. The front of its pelt slightly resembles a traditional frog braid hanging off ends on both front and back. The fur on its head is spikier and flares into a flowing white and black headband. The fur on its head and legs flows up, while its headband flares upward and backward. The backs of its hands, its knuckles, and the tops of its feet are also white-colored. The two were watching the beautiful sunset as they recalled the events of today's training.
"Never get tired of this," The silver-haired man said, as he turned to talk to his mediating Pokemon partner. "How about you, Urshifu? What do you think?"
The Wushu Pokémon nodded with a smile, while still meditating. The silver-haired man smiled as his eyes turned back to watching the sun setting. As he watched the sunset, his mind was thinking about other matters.
I wonder how Sora and Kairi are handling their training? It must be hard when they have..." The man's thoughts were interrupted by sounds of footsteps on the bridge that connects the miniature island to the small island.
The silver-haired man and the Wushu Pokemon, who snapped out of its mediated state, turned and noticed the man in the red-black coat standing on the bridge. He slowly walks over to them. The silver-haired man doesn't seem concerned or worried about what this man wants from him.
"So, you have returned," The silver-haired man responded to the mysterious man's sudden appearance on the island. "Did you find what you were looking for?"
"Sorta," The man replied as he sat on the crooked palm tree, on the right side of the silver-haired man. "However, I did meet an old friend of yours, Riku,"
"Trevor?" Riku answered with a small smile on his face. "And I guess you lost to him. Am I right?"
"Yes..." The man said, admitting his defeat. "However, he does look a lot like his father."
"Well," Riku started to explain to his mystifying friend. "He is the son of Michael Hallett, a great Keyblade Master, and friend of Master Yen Sid. From what he has told about Michael, he was a great man, whose life was cut short by the corrupted greed of his world. It would please Master Yen Sid when you informed him that Trevor is honoring his father's legacy with great success."
"I will, Riku," The man responded as the two men, along with the Wushu Pokemon, continued watching the beautiful island sunset with great serenity until Riku spoke up.
"By the way," Riku started to ask the man in the red-black coat an important question. "When you were exploring that world, did any of your memories return?"
"Some did, but my mind is still foggy, regarding who I was and what I did. It's frustrating to not remember anything about my past." The man in the red-black coat responded with a sigh of disappointment.
"I see," Riku responded with a concerned expression in his eyes. "Do you remember your true name, by any chance?"
"Actually, yes," The man responded, which raised Riku's eyebrows a bit, as he's glad to hear that his mysterious friend remembers his original name.
"That's good," Riku said as he turns to look at his hooded friend. "So then, what's your true name?
The man in the red-black coat turns to face his silver-haired friend, as he tells him what his real name is.
"My true name is..."
