Diya heard the train's whistle as she walked out of the Railway Station.
She went toward the parking lot and saw Ratan uncle standing there, when he saw her, he went toward her and took her luggage and went to the car with Diya following behind him.
Ratan started to drive toward Diya's parent's house, meanwhile Diya started to think about everything that happened, she started to think 'Why did my parents called me home this urgently??'
It was yesterday evening when Diya got a phone call from her baba saying that she has to come home as soon as possible. By the tone of her father, she knew it was important. She took the earliest train in the morning and came home.
"We've reached." Diya was pulled back to reality by Ratan's voice. She looked outside and saw they had reached her house.
She walked out of the car and went to the front door, she rang the doorbell and after a while a maid opened the door for her.
"Where's baba? " She asked the maid.
"He's in his office. " The maid answered.
Without wasting a minute, she started to walk toward her dad's office.
Her baba is very strict, when she was younger, she never had the freedom to go anywhere alone, she always had to take someone with her, that's why she decided to study in Kolkata, away from her home, where she can have her freedom.
She understands that he loves and cares for her that's why he's so protective, after all she's his only daughter. But it still doesn't change the fact that she's not a child anymore who can't take care of herself, she's an adult now and she wants her baba to realize it.
He's a businessman, she doesn't know much about his business, she only knows her dad is a pretty big businessman and he takes his business very seriously.
She knocked on the door, a gruff voice called out " Come in"
She pushed the door open and saw her father sitting on his chair behind his study table as usual but only one thing was unusual, it was the man sitting on one of the chairs in front of the study table.
His back was facing her, so she couldn't see his face but he was a little aged cause she could see his pepper salt hair.
Her dad, Ashish Das looked up and saw her, immediately a smile made its way to his face. He stood up and opened his arms, diya literally ran to him and hugged him. She had missed him so much.
When her dad let go of her, she looked behind her to see the person her dad was talking to before she came in.
It was a man in his early 50s who had a smile on his face, probably seeing their father daughter love, he was quite good looking even at this age, he looked really familiar but she couldn't remember where she saw him.
She looked at her dad questioningly, he understood the question and said smiling,
"Diya, don't you remember him? It's Bijoy, Bijoy uncle from Siliguri. "
Finally it clicked, that's why he was looking so familiar, it's him, her favorite Bijoy uncle. Diya's face broke into a huge smile, she excitedly said or more like shouted
"Bijoy uncle!! How are you?! And where's Ritu auntie? "
Bijoy chuckled seeing Diya so excited, this girl will never change, she is still the same little girl who used to come to his house to play with his wife.
"I'm good as new and Ritu is with your mother, they are probably gossiping " Bijoy Said mischievously and laughed, Diya laughed as well as Ashish.
"When did you come? And why didn't you call me earlier to inform me that you guys are coming?!! What if I hadn't come today? I would have missed this chance to meet you " Diya whined.
"I hadn't called you cause I wanted to surprise you, anyways how are you? And how's your studies? " Bijoy said, patting her head lovingly.
"I'm good and my studies are going great, just one more year then I'll complete my LLB"
They were so engrossed in their conversation that they didn't notice the presence of the black haired guy who was standing at the door and watching them, he cleared his throat to get their attention.
Three of them turned around to face the newcomer, Diya's eyes widened when her own pairs of russet brown eyes met a pair of chocolate brown eyes once again!
"You?! " Diya literally shouted, startling the other two guys standing near her. The mysterious man seemed quite amused seeing her reaction.
"Diya, what's wrong? Why are you shouting like this?" Her dad asked, frowning.
"This man, what is he doing here?" Diya asked, confusion clear on her face .
"This is Mriganka, my son. Don't you remember him?" Bijoy said.
" Huh! It's him!?? " Diya said, still trying to digest the fact that he's that Mriganka.
Her first ever crush, it's been 8 years since she had seen him. No wonder that she didn't recognize him that time they met at kolkata.
"It's understandable, since you had only seen him once or twice. " Bijoy said, nodding his head understandingly.
Yes, it is true that they had met only once or twice but they don't know the fact that Diya used to stare at him sometimes from her balcony. It's her own little secret. No one knew about it other than her best friend. At that time Diya and her parents used to stay at Siliguri, their house was beside Bijoy's house, they were neighbors and that's how she met her Ritu auntie one day, both of them bonded really easily and Ritu and Bijoy became friends with her parents as well.
She was just 15 at that time and Mriganka was 21, he was in college hence he used to live in a different town, when he had came home for summer vacation, that was the first time diya had seen him and she was smitten by him, whenever diya used to go to their house to play with Ritu, much to her disappointment he used to stay inside his room. He often used to talk or chat on his mobile while standing on his balcony and that used to give Diya the chance to peek at him.
When he left for college after that summer vacation, Diya left Siliguri with her parents too. She still remembers the time when he was leaving for his college, before going inside the car he had looked at her balcony as if he knew she would be standing there and there she was, standing in the balcony looking at her first crush to go away.
That day she was sad as well as happy because that day she felt like he had noticed her, before that he used to behave so indifferently around her that she was starting to think that he was blind or she was invisible to him.
"Diya? " Her father's voice brought her out of her thoughts. She turned her head around to see her father slightly frowning.
She quickly regained her composure and replied, " Ha, baba? " (Yes dad?)
"I was saying that why don't you go with Mriganka and show him around in the evening, it's his first time in this town, you should introduce him to your town right? "
Ashish said, smiling merrily.
"Yes, of course, I can show him around and I'm sure Bijoy uncle would love to join as well, it's his first time here as well, right uncle? " Diya said intentionally trying drag Bijoy along with them cause she doesn't wanna be alone with him, not that he makes her uncomfortable or something, it's just that, it would be really hard for her to act normal with him, yes indeed she isn't a little girl anymore who has a crush on him but still he was her very first crush and she often gets anxious around guys, no wonder she'll be even more nervous with him, so it's better to have someone with them.
But things doesn't always work out as we want them to, so much to Diya's bad luck, Bijoy said, "No, I've came here before as well and I don't want to go with you guys, I'm an old man, let me chill with your baba a while, I would rather spend time with him than traveling around." Laughing out loud.
"Why don't we go in the evening? Diya just came home and I'm sure she's tired from her journey, let her rest then I'm sure both of us can figure a time out that suits both of us, right diya? " Mriganka suggested while looking mischievously at Diya, as if he knew why Diya is avoiding being alone with him.
"Yeah....right.. " Diya said nervously while tugging a hair behind her ear. She was looking anywhere but him, she was trying to avoid making eye contact with him and it didn't stay hidden from Mriganka.
Diya excused herself and headed toward her room to get fresh. After she changed into her comfortable sweatpants. Then she went to the kitchen and saw exactly what she had expected, her ma standing there and talking or more like gossiping with Ritu auntie.
"Ma!!" Diya squealed, grabbing the attention of both ladies standing there and literally ran to her mother to hug her. She hugged her and Ritu was standing there with a smile on her face looking at their mother daughter love.
After she was done hugging her, she turned around to hug Ritu, Ritu opened both of her arms for Diya as well.
"Why didn't you guys come to visit me sooner? I missed you sooooo much"
Diya whined like a child and Ritu chuckled looking at her childishness,
'Some things never change, she's still a child.' Ritu thought to herself.
"You know your uncle right? He's always so busy with his work but we had come here this durga puja as well, to give you a surprise but then we got to know you didn't come home during that time" Ritu informed her making her feel sad, they were here before but she couldn't meet them.
"Let's just forget about the old times, by the way you guys are gonna stay here for a few days right?" Diya asked with hopeful eyes, she really wanted to spend some days with them, it's not like they haven't talked for years, they do talk on call time to time but talking face to face is very different and better than that.
"Sorry baby, we have to go tomorrow night, we've only came here to discuss a very important thing but don't worry after that discussion hopefully we'll have plenty of times to spend with you" Ritu said lovingly while keeping a hand on her cheek, making her frown, what is it that they wanna discuss and what did she mean by that?
"What is it that you guys wanna discuss? " Diya asked curiously.
"Now is not the time for it, I'll tell you when the time comes, okay? " Ritu explained.
"Okay, now that we're done with greetings, are you hungry Diya?" Her mother asked her.
"Oh yes, I'm really hungry ma" Diya replied while rubbing her tummy as if to show how much she's hungry.
"Okay then go and call your father and others to have lunch as well" Her mother suggested while chuckling.
She happily started for her father's office but just when she was going through the hallway door, her face met a pretty hard wall but wait there wasn't any wall here!
She looked up and once again her own pairs of russet brown eyes met a pair of chocolate brown eyes and her eyes widened.
"Why do you always seem to get into trouble? " Mriganka asked, amusement clear in his eyes. Diya stepped away a little from him.
"I didn't get into trouble this time, I just bumped into you" Diya mumbled while playing with her fingers.
"Yeah, you just bumped into me but you could have hurted your nose while doing so or you could have fallen back" Mriganka stated. Which just made Diya annoyed.
"Why do you always start to lecture me? " Diya asked with a slight pout.
"Diya, I wasn't lecturing you, I was just telling you to be careful. " Mriganka calmly explained as if explaining to a child.
"I have a question to ask." Diya said timidly.
"Go ahead."
"How did you know it was me that time in Kolkata? And if you knew why didn't you tell me at that time that you are Bijoy uncle's son? " Diya asked curiously.
"I knew that it was you because you didn't change at all. You still look like you used to, breathtakingly beautiful." He mumbled the last part to himself and good for him, Diya didn't hear him.
'Really? But people say I look much different now.' Diya thought to herself but decided not to say it out loud.
"And I didn't tell you that time cause I wanted to surprise you and your reaction was totally worth it." Mriganka chuckled.
Diya's cheeks became a little red in embarrassment remembering how she had literally shouted after seeing him.
"Lunch is ready" Diya quickly said and literally ran from there. This just made Mriganka laugh even more at her cuteness.
From there Diya went to her father and Bijoy and informed them about lunch. Diya then went to the dining table and saw Mriganka sitting there, she was about to sit on the chair far away from him but her father said, "Why don't you sit on that chair? Me and your Bijoy uncle can sit together then" showing the chair beside Mriganka.
Helplessly Diya sat beside Mriganka and felt his eyes on her but she dared not to look at him, she had already made enough fool of herself, that's the enough embarrassment she could take for a day..
The lunch went smoothly, her parents and Banerjee couple had several conversations during this time, Diya joined sometimes as well, Mriganka didn't interact much, he only opened his mouth when he was asked something.
Diya remember her father asking him what he does now, to which he replied that he had started his own company, along with it, he manages his father's business as well, he asked as to why he started his own business, he could have just took over his father's business but he said he wanted to do something on his own and Diya was quite impressed hearing that.
After lunch Diya went to her room to rest, she opened her laptop and started watching a web series. She's obsessed with web series and can never get enough.
When she opened her eyes, all she saw was dark, it took her a moment to realize she had fallen asleep while watching the 5th episode of 'Smile to life'. She lazily sat up and yawned, she rubbed her eyes and searched for her mobile, when she found it and saw the time her eyes widened. It's 7 pm already, she was supposed to go out with Mriganka in the evening, why did no one wake her up?!?!
Exactly then she heard a knock on her door followed by a deep voice,
"Diya, are you there?" She heard a knock again.
"Yes, just a moment" She stumbled towards the door and held it open. She was greeted by the sight of a fully dressed Mriganka. Well, it seems like someone is too eager to go out.
"So, are you ready? " Mriganka asked, she wanted to reply, do I look like I'm ready? But she chose not to speak her mind, since she was at fault.
"No, just give me 10 minutes, " Diya said, smiling as big as she could, hoping he would not scold her again for being late.
Thankfully he didn't, he just nodded and went from there.
She quickly went inside her room, got fresh and dressed in high waist jeans and kurti.
She went downstairs and saw Mriganka sitting on the sofa with his phone in his hand. He looked up from his mobile when he heard her clearing her throat and said
"Ready to go?"
