Twenty-Five: Puppeteers
In the whereabouts of France where abandoned buildings stay in, five people infiltrated the buildings in the shadows. "Okay. Start in a daylife mission and this is what I get?" Leroy whispered beneath his breath.
"Shut your trap, mutton-head." Abigail warned him with a glare.
"Y'know, I get that you two are in the lovey-dovey stuff but there's no perfect reason for you to call him a mutton-head." Zariffe grimaced in disapproval and hid himself in a building's corridor.
Aracelie jumped horizontally on the sides of the buildings without being spotted because her movements were fast. She stopped by a rooftop to watch a close eye on which building gets suspicious. "Well? Did you get anything?" Renzelf's voice talked with her by earpiece.
"Nothing this far." She replied but then caught something in her eyes. "Wait. I see something. About four or five dolls up ahead."
"Okay. Name the objectives."
"Leo, Leroy, Yvonne and Ethane."
"Oh great." Leroy snorted beneath his breath.
"Who's gonna take them down?" Zariffe queried.
"We stick to the plan." Renz spoke up. The five dolls were instantly taken down by ten of Renz's fishes: generally like the copy of Dante's Rox. Some were bitting the dolls' arm or ripping them off and some were sliced by the prickly scales.
Abigail watched from afar and grimaced in disgust. "Renz, are you really controlling these things?" Renz hummed as a reply. "Why are they so brutal? Do you consider us as enemies?"
"Why no. Truth is, I'm not the one controlling their attacks. My command was just to take them down so they're responsible for the brutal part." Renz stated who hid himself in a building a corridor. He was leaning his back against the wall and stayed calm. All he needs to do was to hold the book in his hands for all time for the fishes not to disappear and hide in a safe area where no one can be able to ambush him.
"Okay. That's five down. Leaving me, Rena, Abby, Lyra, Dante, Leila, Ara and Renz.. Geez. We still have this many?" Zariffe pouted.
Abigail sulked. "I'm having troubles with the Zariffe or Dante part. You do realize that you two are the powerfulest of the council, right?"
"Hey, don't forget Renz." Zariffe corrected her. "He's pretty strong. Able to take down four of them in an instant? That's just a warm-up for him."
"There's no need to babble about how proud you are." Leroy rolled his eyes while Renz who was afar from them, from another building, alone kept quiet all for himself. He didn't bother to talk, he had his fishes went back him but then felt one of them take down.
He was unfazed or undaunting. "Huuh?" He sounded almost like a kid but his stance looked mature since he was leaning against a wall. "One got down? But how?" He focused his eyes and saw through his pets'. He saw an eyeless Leila slashing her swords at his pets and one got hitted in the noggin, prompting Renz to feel pain. "Ow." He simply ached but apathetically.
A heavy sigh heaved out. "There's still one more? I'll handle this." Feidge came out of the shadows with a circular saw and shredded the doll by just passing by. He sighed. "Sorry but I had to end your life." He disappeared in an instant and stayed back to his hiding zone.
"Ara, did you see which place they were before we ambush them?" Leroy queried by earpiece.
"Yeah. Head north and west. There you'll find a gray building. Careful though. I'm sure Jarell has tight security."
"We stick to the plan. If there's no one there then it's obviously a trap but if there IS someone there, just stick to the motives I gave you." Feidge rolled his eyes.
Everybody nodded before separating in groups. Abigail, Leroy and Zariffe headed to the abandoned building, infiltrating without caution. "Geez. This building is scary." Abigail noted, examining her surroundings.
"It's pretty dark in here, and I don't sense anyone's presence." Leroy turned to Zariffe. "Hey, you sure they were sure that this is the place?"
Zariffe scrunched his brows in disapproval. "Hey, Ara has an extrasensory eyesight--" His words were cutten off by strings from underground tying their limbs tightly. And just by that, they already knew that they were in deep trouble. It was dark before their eyes could adjust but they heard light footsteps coming over.
"You are right. I do have extrasensory sight." A doll of Ara stood above them. Her eyes were hollow but they shown bloodlust. Ara stepped on Zariffe's head by foot and smirked. "Ha, so you fell in love with the real one, huh? What does it feel then to be crushed by someone you like?"
Zariffe gritted his teeth. He tried to hold himself from releasing Sheol. He just kept quiet and sticked with the plan. Feidge and Renz were holding themselves as well. They hid themselves somewhere where they can't be spotted. They clenched their teeth at the sight of their dear brother being treated like that.
"Now. Now. Faivre." A voice that they did not wish to hear chimed in. The lights opened up and revealed Jarell Divell. He smirked and clapped his hands. "Getting in like that is pretty dumb. But I'm assuming that you aren't alone?"
"Wow. Took ya long enough." René jumped out of nowhere from the shadows and engulfed his hand with mists. He charged into Jarell but only as a feint to charge into the puppet Ara and stab her in the gut by hand.
The doll's eyes grew wide and emitted choking sounds before falling down on her knees. She fumbled her fingers on René's, smirking and croaking out, "Well play." She dissolved in blue sparkles.
Jarell looked half disappointed and bummed out. "Huh? So that's how you deal with them. You just finish them already without a fair play?" He tilted his head and held out a hand. "I created these dolls for show. It's amusement, it's entertainment. You people are rude just to finish them up."
"I've got no time for playin', bastard." René gritted his teeth and held out his strings. The rest of the Guardians, including Adrien jumped out of nowhere from the ceiling. Jarell's disappointed face turned into a happy one.
"Huh. You brought everyone, huh? Except for the Great Guardian. Oh well, bringing everyone here means you REALLY want to take me down, huh?"
"Where's Marinette?!" Adrien shouted.
Jarell sheered over him. He plastered a serious face which wasn't good. He shrugged and snapped his fingers, "Eh, sure." Chatreuse falmes began appearing out of nowhere. It formed in a spiral motion, then dissolved to reveal Marinette placed inside a thin case. "I kept her here because one of my puppets saw her loistering around all alone and defenselessly. And I thought, why not use her as a hostage?"
Everyone gave Feidge a glare who returned the favor by sending a killer one. "You bastard, you didn't do anything else to her, did you?!" Abigail cried out. "If you lay another--"
"Relax. I didn't do anything." Jarell rolled his eyes. "She's useless. Just looking at her weak level makes me sick. Is she really Aurora Queen? Heh, well, I'm fine by anything as long as the Savior is powerful." He snapped his fingers as the remaining puppets have arrived. "Perhaps I forgot to activate something. They mimick your appearances but they don't fully mimick your abilities, eh?"
He smirked and snapped his fingers. Chartreuse flames engulfed the dolls' bodies. It took matter of seconds for the flames to wipe out, revealing the dolls looking powerful and their eyes became the exact copies of their originals. What's even more worse, more puppets have added. "There we go! Right now, they're in the exact level as you. Have fun while you can, enjoy the interlude while you can.." Jarell's eyes fileld with cheekiness and bloodlust. "..Because you're all gonna die in one place..!"
René clicked his tounge. "We'll see about that!" His eyes perused on the dolls and found somebody who really perturbed him. He gasped. "Yudelle?!" His pupils shrunk and he was severely faltering.
"Bastard..!" Leo glared daggers at Jarell's sinister smile. "Why would you do something like that?! Isn't Yudelle just a human?!"
"Just a human?" Jarell snickered as he brushed his fingers through his turquoise hair. "My, you have it wrong. There are two reasons actually. First - She's a former member of the Guardian Council, correct? She's the replacement of Lyra Guillame. Second - She's the perfect weakness for Rousseau. Isn't that right?"
"That ain't true!"
Jarell snickered. "Well, shouldn't you ask Rousseau first?"
Leo turned to René who was shaking. He was traumatized. "Yep. That sounds about right." Renz teased tactlessly and earned a glare from Leo and Dante which made Renz laughed at it.
Adrien's ring glistened green. He waved his hands in a circular motion which caused him to muster his silver baton out of nowhere. He aimed the baton at Jarell and his words slowly and menacingly reached Jarell. "I'm going to take Marinette back. She isn't yours." His baton was then engulfed with purple aura, same from his Cataclysm. That means whoever he is touch with that weapon will die.
Jarell snickered. "Ooo~! How frightening! I love the tension in your voice." He jokishly told him but Adrien was taking this seriously. Jarell summoned a laser longsword. He wielded it in a circular motion and smirked. "If you're worthy enough in defeating me, then I'm sure you're worthy enough to claim your dear Marinette. Although, there's a hefty price. Defeat me and claim your lover."
"I'll do it." Adrien took a step forward.
"Adrei, what do you think you're doing?" Abigail snarled between her gritted teeth. "Are you insane? One strike from taht guy and you're dead--"
"I'm doing this for Marinette. I don't care what happens to me, as long as I get Marinette back." Adrien started walking up to Jarell slowly who seemed to smirk mischievously.
"Ugh. You're being reckless again." Abigail intended to stop him but someone clamped a hand on her shoulder. She turned and saw Leroy.
He looked serious. "Don't. This could be..the perfect chance to prompt him into giving an all-out power."
"What? It'll kill him!"
"Fu stated that the Twin Hearts Miraculous Duo has some kind of power stored secretly in them. If Adrien goes all out because of his resolve in saving Marinette, he might be able to defeat Jarell. Don't underestimate your brother."
"I'm not underestimating him." Abigail turned away and gazed at Adrien. Her words were weaved with worry and regret. "I just..want to protect him. He's the..only family I consider left." Leroy didn't have enough words for her but instead silently watched Adrien.
Jarell's eyes trailed from Adrien to the Guardians. "Huh.. I see. Let's keep you busy." He snapped his fingers as a command, prompting his puppets to launch at the Guardians. He eyes back to Adrien and smiled cheekily, "We're both cheeky but I can see that you're serious. Let's do this then."
