Part Twenty-Four: Memories
Adrien arrived at the park, tiredly after all that running. He paused when he saw a clone/puppet of René stabbed through the back by Feidge's hand. There were no blood or anything since he was just a doll. Feidge ruthlessly watched René fall over the ground in a cold-blooded way. "You've got the worst luck of today." He murmured before spotting Adrien. "Oh, you're here. Where's Renz?"
"Wh-Why did you..do that to René?"
"Huh? This isn't René. It's a doll made by Jarell Divell." Feidge explained before seeing the puppet perish into blue sparkles. Adrien didn't get the whole detail but just nodded.
"Where's Marinette?" Adrien worriedly asked.
And Feidge blunted, "Oh, I told her to escape."
"What?!"
"She was too weak to join the fight. Rousseau is someone as powerful as Moreau or Zariffe even." He pulled out a hanky to wipe it over his hands. "Let's go back to the council. I'm sure she's there."
Overlapping, Marinette was facing a puppet of Dante. This Dante was very different. He was smirking and evil. "Answer me. Is this Jarell I'm talking to right now or is it the puppet itself?" Marinette obviously asked.
Dante smirked. "The puppet itself." He stretched his hands in an exercise motion, saying, "Shall we do this then?"
"Sorry but I'd rather not!" Marinette snagged out two of the exact copies of her Ladybug yoyos and made them dart around in every direction possible in impressive speed. Puppet Dante kept his eyes closed the whole time and didn't bother to stray his eyes onto the yoyos' movements.
But instead slithered a sly smirk before disappearing. Marinette expanded her yoyos' motion around her, forming a pink-colored barrier to shield herself from any attack possible given to Dante and also to attack him. It took a matter of seconds for her to feel a firm tug on the strings which caused her to gasp when somebody pulled her left yoyo's string.
Not long after the other one was pulled as well. Dante came in, holding the yoyos in his hands and swiftly reeled around Marinette, tying her up in the strings. "You still have a lot to learn." Dante said, landing his feet on the ground and stared down at Marinette with his eyeless empty eyes. Marinette squirmed herself, the strings were unbreakable and they even tied her limbs. "Please be thorough next time. I didn't even got a chance to use my powers."
"You're not Dante. Dante is not mischievous or cocky. You're just a doll." Marinette squirmed. "What are you going to do with me anyway?"
"Simple." Dante bent down to her eye level. "I'm taking you to Jarell."
"Okay. When I said that she'd be in the council, I was probably wrong." Feidge told Adrien, standing across the meeting room. Adrien freaked out about his wife's disappearance.
"Come on, she's gotta be somewhere." Aracelie stated, sitting in her throne and beside Zariffe.
"Probably she got lost?" Zariffe scratched his cheek hesitantly.
Ara shooked her head. "Idiot, why would she get lost in a place she knows well?" Zariffe laughed sheepishly at his mistake. Ara smirked. "Sheol, you're in there, right? Slap him for me."
"As you wish." Zariffe's heterochromatic eyes turned into Sheol's and Sheol slapped himself as a punishment for Zariffe.
When Zariffe reverted, he scraped the burn on his cheek. "Owwie. Are you this cruel?"
"That thing is still there?" Feidge scrunched his brows in anger. "Don't you realize how dangerous it is? That thing killed hundreds."
"And you killed thousands." Zariffe snapped. "You have more sins than Sheol. He IS a demon and a threat but he's my friend. When I was a kid, what did you ever do to make me feel happy? Didn't you lock me in a dungeon?"
"N-Now, now. Let's not fight." Adrien butted in, shaking his hands anxiously. This was not an ordinary fight but a fight between current and former assassins. "Pretty sure Marinette could be anywhere."
"May I?" Dante arrived with Rena by his side which was unusual but the Guardians sometimes team up in pairs or trios. "I have an ability in which I can track one's location."
"Huh. Never thought you two would pair up." Zariffe stated. "Aren't you guys enemies..? Since, I don't know, Dante is Rene's bestfriend?"
Rena raised a brow. "I'm fine with anybody as long as they're not annoying. Dan's not annoying."
"Isn't Ren not annoying now? He's been..pretty much of a cold-hearted person now, and not a psychopath just like before." Zariffe slouched when he started feeling sorry for René. "Do you even love your brother?"
"I have no right to answer that." Rena glared him daggers and left the room when Feidge returned the glare to her for his brother. She clicked her tounge and made her way to the Ancient Garden.
"Geez. She's gotta be a demon." Zariffe mumbled beneath his breath but was told by Sheol who was lurking in the shadows to understand that she's just not ready to face her siblings. Zariffe rolled his eyes and turned to Dante. "Hey, when are you going to start searching for Dupain-Cheng?"
"Patience." Dante warned him, walking up to the meeting table. He casted a ball of blue light from his hand and laid it on the desk. The ancient markings of the table glown and released a beam of light. It formed into a navigation map. "Marinette Dupain-Cheng." A yellow dot glown from the map.
"So, I'm guessing it's pretty far." Zariffe said.
"Of course it is. Can't you tell?"
"I can't read a map. I was never taught. I never even got to school or learned anything, just language. All because of my confinement in the catacombs." Zariffe said in a straightforward way. Thus of his words, the others turned to Feidge and gave him a look which asks if that was true.
"It's true." Feidge spoke not another word that relates to that subject. "2,500 meters or less by foot but if we take a vehicle, we might get there earlier than anticipated."
"You can read a map?" Adrien asked, making him turn to him.
"Of course. Everyone can read a map. Well, except Zariffe." Zariffe pouted by that but Feidge didn't seem to bother it. Adrien thought about his statement. He was never able to read a map. It was easier if it was in his baton because all you needed to you was to follow your destination.
"Faster by vehicle, huh.." Renz suddenly arrived, dragging in a deceased doll of Feidge by the back-collar. He dropped the doll down, making a thud and a scene. "We can borrow Love's car."
Everyone stared at him in a strange way except for Zariffe and Feidge who were probably used to that. Renz has a habit of dragging corpses in without caution of getting arrested. Surprised that he wasn't caught by any citizen. His blazer was gone, probably shredded or worse. And his button-up shirt's sleeves were ragged.
"Man, I'm a mess." He cracked his knuckles and watched the doll of Feidge dissolve in sparkles. the sparkles were lighting his dead blue eyes. He had a cold-blooded expression the whole time but soon twisted in an amiable one. He smiled. "So, what did I miss?"
"Some stuff. Except Marinette's missing." Adrien retorted in a scared manner. He stared at Renz in horror. If it was a human rather than a doll, Renz would have his clothes and face stained with blood by now. This was the scariest thing about Renz. He looks so innocent and amiable but those are just to fool onlookers from finding out that he is an apathetic and inhuman mass murderer.
"Renz, what's that?" Feidge looked down in disgust of the about-fade-away doll version of himself. The sparkles in the are soon disappeared after the doll has been.."pulverized".
"Oh this?" Renz laughed. "Evidently, it's you but a doll version!" Everyone in the room sweatdropped. Of course it was a doll! It was completely obvious! Adrien thought.
Feidge heaved out a tired sigh. "Anyways, can you check or see where Aurora Queen is, Moreau?" He turned to Dante who nodded in response.
Dante scanned the whole map by placing his palm gently on the desk. "I can't tell exactly what it is but it has a large shape of a rectangle. All I can say is..it's somehow crooked or old."
"A building?" Aracelie asked.
"An abandoned building." Feidge added. "Aurora Queen would never head to an unknown building without a reason. If it is to hide then she would've gone to her home or headquarters instead. If she was to be chased, she could've turned into Ladybug or escape the situation. But if she was captured.."
"She'd be a hostage. Ooof course." Zariffe grimaced at the word "hostage". Renz agreed with him. The Lenoir family has a problem with that word.
"But who would capture her?" Adrien brought that question up.
"If it were a group of deliquents or bandits, they would stand no chance in defeating Ladybug but if it was one of the dolls.. Then it's..Jarell." Renz hated to say that name out loud but he just had to!
"Well, it's good that you two are aware of the posibilities but are you aware of Jarell Divell's master plans? His motives would set up a trap any second now." Dante said, shutting his navigation map down.
"I'll handle it. I can pull up a strategy." Feidge raised his hand before putting on his gloves and transforming into his White Tiger outfit which was the outfit he wore awhile ago.
"You sure you can handle it?"
"Feidge is a master strategist. He never fails a mission." Renz noted, proving his brother's intelligence.
"Fine. We'll be counting on you with the plan but it has to involve the other Guardians." Ara said and dragged Zariffe away. She told them that they were heading out to hunt for the remaining dolls.
Before Dante could leave, Renz interrupted. "Hey, Dante.. Was it?" Dante silently nodded and turned his heel. "You can erase memories, right? I want you to erase every memory of what people saw today. There might be pursuers who saw our fight."
Dante rubbed his nape and reluctantly said, "That..might be hard. I'm not able to erase one's memories without making them look into my eyes. But perhaps, maybe I CAN erase everyone in France's memories of today by releasing memeory wave."
"Does it include the Guardians or the Twin Hearts?" Feidge asked who was shoving knives and pistol guns in his trench coat's inner pocket.
"No. Miraculous holders won't have their memories erased."
"Good."
Renz heaved out a heavy sigh before strangely dropping his back on the floor, emitting a thud. "So troublesome!" He shouted as if he was a teenager being grounded. "I almost died in trying to defeat Puppet Fiedge!" He snickered. "Eh, what do I care of I die? It's not like my life's worth taking or keeping."
"You're too loud. I need to focus." Feidge grunted and rubbed his temples. He was already at the desk, planning the strategy.
"You two are strange. You like others' death but you don't bother yours as well?" Dante queried.
"To simply put it, we're happy with death because we live with it everyday. We believe that our lives aren't worth taking or keeping since all we did ever since childhood was kill even children, even innocents or the elderly. We were forced to..by a parent." Feidge explained and told both to leave the room. Renz behaved like a teen and whined. Dante somehow said words to convince him to leave with him.
