Part Eighteen: Secrets And Lies (Lyrante)
Back at Bordeaux, the Twin Hearts, Leroy, Leo, Leila and Abigail were just escorting Zariffe and Ara from their school. "Why on Earth did you even let us come with you? Isn't this a Guardian Business?" Marinette asked, now recovered fully since it has been more than a week.
"We have to escort Zariffe and Ara, we're their friends after all." Abigail replied self-possessingly, as she drove Aracelie in a wheelchair. Ara has three broken bones, plus, she's blind and someone needs to help out with that. "Also, we need to guard the Twin Hearts Miraculous in case Jarell Divell comes back."
"Well, I'm theorectically starting to count this as a babysitting mission than an escorting one." Zariffe shoved a bagel in his mouth, "We aren't babies, alright?" He caught something on the corner of his eyes, his eyes sharpen as he stopped his tracks.
But then they softened once he realized it was a girl eavesdropping them from an alley nearby, his face lightened up. "Hey, do I know you?" The girl shrieked in surprise, hiding herself once more. Though, she had a peek. Zariffe shooked his head in shame, "Can you come out so I can see you better?"
The others remained silent as they let Zariffe do his thing. The girl stepped out, she wore the same uniform Zariffe and Ara wore right now. Zariffe stunned as he recognized her uniform, "You have the same.. hey, by any chances, are you a classmate of mine?"
Leo sighed, interrupting. He tilted his head to the girl and adjusting his glasses. Its lenses glown orange, "Ferreira Bouchet - status: alive - School: Bordeaux Academy Five - Grade: nine."
"A nineth grader?" Marinette asked, exchanging stunned glances with Adrien. "Like us?"
"Yup, that's probably the deal." Leroy noted, drinking his frappe.
"Y-You know?" Ferreira questioned, "H-How? Have met before?"
"No," Leo turned away as his lenses returned to normal, the azure ones. "I just..have something special." The whole time, Ferreira was staring at Zariffe who eventually caught her eye.
"Why do you keep staring at me?" Zariffe asked her, making her blush madly. She turned away shyly, "I see.. do you perhaps..like me?" She slowly nodded. "Oh," Zariffe dazed, then smiled warmly. "Well, see ya tommorow." They walked away as the girl squealed from inside.
"You do realize when Lyra finds out about that, she'll be broke, right?" Leroy queried, between the straw in his mouth.
"Tch, miserable girls." Zariffe abruptly nagged, "So stupid and naive! They're fatal and easy to be manipulated!" He grimaced in irritation as he thrown his soda can that was in possession from his other hand over his shoulder, thoroughly shooting in the bin adjacent to them.
Leroy sighed, "Dante's gonna crush you."
"W-Wait. You don't care about that girl's feelings at all?" Marinette stuttered, "Why? She likes you. It's obvious! What would happen if she thinks you like her back but finds out that it was all a lie, she'll cry about it!"
Zariffe turned to her with direful eyes, "I have no intentions or whatsoever. Now get out of my sight. Super irritating.. I don't bother trying to make myself good or anything, girls will just be pestering me. I'll just shut her down tommorow. I don't care a single thing about her."
"Maan, she's gonna get squashed tommorow." Leo grimaced, "Poor girl.."
"Oh c'mon, you do stuff like that too, y'know?" Tactfully Zariffe said.
"L-Leo?! You do too?!" Freaked Marinette.
Leo sheepishly laugh, turning away and answering, "not always. I only do it whenever I'm in a bad mood. Their confessions are driving me in stress."
"Just like what you did to Heine!" Leila huffed, folding her arms. "She won't take to me anymore 'cause she never goes to school! Currently, she's staying home, crying in her bedroom all night!"
"Eehh, she's just a drama queen. She'll get over it."
"Apologize to her now!"
"I can't~ we're in Bordeaux, remember~?"
"Leorio Faustus Pierre, quit pestering me!"
"Yeesh, what is love?" Leo sighed, "Can't people just live in upright jolly?"
"How, indeed. What the hell is 'love' anyway? It's so abstract, I can't get my head around it." Zariffe remarked.
"Noted." Leo said.
"I'll call Ren, he's in Le Mans." Abigail snagged out her phone from her pocket, "He had to take Leo and Leila's mission in defeating Sera Moth's minions. Man, she's been turning people into her minions. It's what makes Le Mans so dangerous now."
"Yeah, it's like akumatizing but worse." Leo shrudded, "You can't purify them. They stay like that forever unless Sera is defeated. Gosh, they are very powerful so they'd be hard to beat."
"Relax, Ren and Rena are very strong." Leila noted.
"For you, they're strong. But for me? Not quite." Leo said to Leila, "I'm ranked as the fourth strongest while Ren is ranked as seventh and Rena as fifth. You're the tenth, I'd advice you to be more stronger." Thus, Leila sulked and shrunked.
Abigail dialed Ren's number, but no one answered. "Ugh. I wonder why he's not picking up? Is he too busy? Wait. He's never busy, even in a fight, he still has the time to buy something like macaroons!"
"How about Rena?" Adrien asked.
"She doesn't have a phone." Abigail brusquely retorted, prompting Adrien to sulk. She groaned, "Ugh. I wonder what's happening back there?"
Coincidentally, in Le Mans, Ren and Rena was up against a dangerous enemy. Though, Ren was having fun. He was wearing an navy blue elegant suit and so did Rena, she wore a white evening dress.
Ren chuckled, "Gotta say, Charlotte. You're pretty strong, but no one's stronger than Hawkmoth, right?" He posed different types of positions like he was a model as a form of dodging the comet attacks of the hostile. "I mean, you are in control of Sera Moth. But Hawkmoth is stronger, riiight?"
He laid himself in a prone position (lying on the chest with the face down) he rested his cheeks on his palms (one of his postures) "Is that all ya got, Charlotte Comet?"
Charlotte growled and snarled, "You just watch, bird!" She shot out more comets, but Ren deftly dodges it by posing once more.
"Oh Charlotte, I grudgingly deem you as a powerful person." Ren playfully flicked his strings that were laid down on the floor like a guitar, "But let's who's the best between you and Rena-Rena!" Thus, Rena arrived, stepping on her brother's head and leaped to Charlotte.
"Idiot, shut the crap up and let me do this!" Once her foot touched the ground, the ground reverberated as Charlotte to stumble down, giving a chance for René to bind her up. Rena tromped her foot on Charlotte's back, "You insolent woman, bow down to your master!"
"So, shall we bring her to Headquarters and make her talk?" Ren flicked his hat up as triumphance gloated over his mask and eyes.
"Sure thing, Brother."
Ren's jaw dropped, "Heeey, did you just said Brother?"
"Shut up.."
Dante walked deep into the forest, he sat by a hill and watched the sky. He sighed, "The sky's so sorrowful, that's probably the reason why it's blue.." he sat up and stared down at the grass, "I know you're there. Leave me alone, Lyra."
A chuckle slitted as Lyra came out behind the tree Dante was basking in, she smiled. "Dante, you're so smart! I've been wanting to become like you one day!"
Dante blinked, "I'm afraid that's a major attribute for someone so innocent like you, Lyra." When Lyra crawled up to him, he moved a bit far from her. "What are you doing?"
"Dante, I know you're a somewhat demon but there's no harm in telling me how you feel!" Lyra beamed, "I promise I'll help you resolve all of your problems!"
"No thanks," Dante bluntly curted, "Some of my problems can't be fixed. They're all too complicated."
Lyra's bloated up as she pouted, "Still! I'll be saving you no matter what!" Dante chuckled with that for whatever reason, making Lyra's face to lighten up. "That's it! I like seeing someone smile! Even though it might be the first time!"
Dante smiled a bit, "I apologize for my behavior but you're adorable when you pout."
Lyra smiled sweetly, "Then I'll remind myself to pout everytime I want to see you smile!" She stared deeply at Dante's eyes, "You have very kind eyes.."
Dante released a chuckle, "Heh, such innocence. You're quite innocent yourself, my dear." He tilted his head as he examined her face. It took a while before he realized that he was staring at Lyra for too long. He blushed and looked away, baffling Lyra. "What are you doing here anyway? You shouldn't be here since I'm in a much worse state ever since that incident."
"True, but didn't I say I was worrying about you?"
"No. In fact, you didn't say a single thing articulated to that at all."
"Huuh? Really?" Lyra laughed as she rubbed her scalp, "So sorry then. "Hmm, I wonder what it feels like to be powerful.."
"What do you mean? You are powerful."
"Nu-uh. I'm powerful even one bit. You, Aracelie, Zariffe, Leo, Leila and among others are the powerful ones. I'm practically the weakest of the council." Lyra sadly shooked his head, "That's why I'm the twelveth-ranked Commander. Heh, what a joke. How did I became a member of the guardians if I'm like this?"
"You're powerful somewhere deep inside. It's not something others should decide, it's something you should decide. Once you realize that you're somewhat powerful, you'll figure it out."
"Thanks, Dante. You always know what to say," she tilted her head as she smiled, "Anyways, my friends went home early, and I just decided to watch on Zariffe!" Somehow, after hearing that name, Dante lost his smile. "I can't believe he's been here for three days just because of the meeting! I'm going to watch over him and see where he stays!" Falling on her knees, Lyra begged, "Please! Please let me watch over him! I-I'll promise to give you all my candy!"
"Lyra.. do you..still like Zariffe?" Dante upsetly queried.
"Yes, I like Zariffe!"
"Oh.."
"I know he sometimes say abusive words and phrases that are quite painful, but I still like him! He--"
"That's enough," Dante sat up and walked away from her.
"D-Dante, are you alright?"
"I'm fine. I just need some time alone." Lyra watched Dante flee. She was very oblivious about Dante's feelings towards her 'cause probably, he rarely talks.
"Yooo, Daante. What was that all about?" Dante turned to see Ren perching on top of a tree, he rested his cheek on his palm, "Maaan, this is why I told you never to fall in love. It's pointless if people get their hopes up."
"Huh? Ren, are you here to laugh at me again?" Dante froze, but walked up the tree Ren was sitting on. He sat beneath the tree and sighed, "Well, go ahead. Right after you saw what happened, pretty sure you have the right to laugh at me."
Ren laughed as he hanged down the tree upsidedown, "Sure, I'll laugh! But moreover, I'd feel sorry!" He got his feet back on ground and tipped his hat at Dante, "Hey, quick ques! What do you like about Ly-Ly? Isn't she just a weak-hearted person?"
"Just leave me alone, knuckle-head.." Dante grumbled, gripping on his hair firmly.
But Ren just laughed as usual, he skipped around Dante as if he was a girl, saying. "You can't keep secludin' yourself forever, Dante! Eventually, someone'll approach you and make your heart 'open'!" He airquoted as he had six of his fingers laid on his hat.
"Didn't I say 'leave me alone'?" Dante rolled his eyes, "You never listen to me. It's probably the reason why in the end, we didn't remained as friends."
"Aww, come on! You're no fun!" Ren peeped aside Dante after a blink and slinged his arm across Dante's shoulder, "Hey, I wanna ask you something. Where's Zar and the others?"
"Apparently, they just got home in Bordeaux."
"Oooh! You lied to Ly-Ly, huuh?" Ren wiggled his eyebroes playfully, chuckling. "I don't get it. Is it because you want her all for yourself or is it that you didn't want Zar struggling?"
"Neither. It's because I said it without thought."
Meanwhile, back at Bordeaux, the seven Guardians reside in Ara's apartment. "It's been a long time since I haven't been to this apartment of yours, Ara!" Zariffe remarked, lazing on Ara's bed and placing his hands on his scalp. "I really like Ara's apartment, it's just right! Not too big and not too small! Hey, I'm thinking of living here with you someday!"
"Not a chance," Ara released an audible and tired sigh as she rested her back on her bed's backboard, "By the time you own this place, I'll be moving out and living in the Council's estate."
"So, Zariffe never returns home..?" Adrien scanned his eyes on the room. He expected Ara's apartment to be more..well, spider-ish, if you know what I mean. "Why is that?"
Zariffe retrieved him a death glare as the room grew in perfect silence. Adrien promptly squeaked, Yup. I think I just crossed the line. After the overdoing silence, Leroy cleared his throat, "Anyways, we came here only to visit you guys and by noon, we'll be off."
"Aww, you guys are leaving?" Zariffe joked, "That's so saaad. I wanted to tease Leo about something," he locked his eyes up at Leo who was staring Abigail, not listening to their discussion. His words really bothered Leroy, and then it clicked when he saw his big brother staring at the love his life. "But guess I can't."
Why is he..staring at Abigail? Leroy parsed his eyes at them before someone elbowing him. He turned to see Leila with concerned eyes, "Brother, are you alright? You've been..bothered lately. Did something bad happened to you?'
"Nothing, I'm fine, really." Leroy lied as Leila looked at him discernly. She didn't believe him at all.
"Well, I'm going out!" Zariffe sat up and headed to the door, but was interrupted by a sudden voice.
"What do you mean 'going out'?" Ara started.
Zariffe tilted his head to her and grinned, "Me? You're asking Me? Perhaps, you could be taking a sudden interest in me?"
"No, I just want to know since Fu will definitely kill me if I didn't knew where you were."
"Well, somewhere you might not wanna know." Zariffe steeked the door shut and headed downstairs. He sighed, playing his hands on the back of his head, muttering. "Man, she's such a nuisance.. what's up with her? She keeps on disrupting me."
"Well, I'm sure no one will be a nuisance anymore to you, sweetheart." A voice said as shadowy arms wrapped around Zariffe's neck.
Zariffe turned fearfully, "L-Love?" He stuttered.
Love, Zariffe's sister smirked. "Hello, little brother. Come back to the Lenoir manor for me, please?"
"The hell.."
"Ah, I'm going for a refill." Leo sat up and walked inside Ara's kitchen to encounter Abigail. He gulped but shook his cowardice feeling away, he walked up to her and asked, "What are you doing here?"
Abigail turned, "Simple. To get some ice?" Leo fetched ice for her from the fridge. She stoically accepted it and asked, "How about you?"
"Refill." Abigail handed out the bottle of water as Leo gladly accepted it. Though, their fingers touched. Leo blushed, looking away after deftly snatching the bottle and prompting Abigail to eye at him suspiciously. So her brother couldn't notice Marinette's blushes and she can? How is that even possible?
"Why are you all red?" Abigail had her stern and stoic face.
Leo gulped as he was drenched in sweat, "I.. I.." he grimaced and bravely turned, "Listen, Abigail." He placed the bottle back to the desk and stared at her in the eyes, "I know Roy and you have been in a relationship for a very long time, and I wanted to ask you if..we could still be friends like back then?" Abigail's eyes widen, not about that relationship thing but about being friends. "It's just.. I've been feeling all gloomy ever since we parted ways and this might be a bad timing but, I like you!"
Abigai's eyes sparked in surprise. She was dumbfounded. What they didn't know was that Leroy watching the two behind the wall adjacent to the door. He sighed silently and walked away, back to the gang. Abigail turned away, "That's pretty sudden. You do realize that you're my boyfriend's brother, right? It won't work out. It would be awkward."
"Then how about we stay as best friends like old times then?"
Abigail pondered about it then deemed with a smile, "Sure. I'll be happy too. I kinda miss the real you anyways." Both of the two happily went out of the room and got back to the group.
All eyes were on them, except Leroy's. "What happened back there? And why were you two taking too long?" Leroy didn't make eye-contact, he was too focused in shaking his glass leisurely. He lied about overhearing their conversation and acted as if he didn't knew a thing.
"Just nothing." Abigail smiled at him. He could've been happy but instead, he was gloomy. She lied to me.. wow, it hurts.
Lyra rushed inside her home, the Rousseau Manor. You'll probably get the ditch about Lyra's surname, Guillame. It hasn't been changed to Rousseau since her mother isn't officially married to her father.
Rushing in then being stopped by a certain person, she humped right back at ground. "Hey!" She looked up and saw René with a smile. "Big brother?"
"Heeey, Ly-Ly! What's the rush?" René wiggled his brows as he laughed, placing his hands on his hips.
"Reny!" Lyra embraced Réne emotionally as a rekindling, "I thought you were still in Le Mans!" She pulled away and bit her gums. René laughed at her bloated face.
"Well, remember the Guardian pin?" René pointed down to his pants, briefly showing his pin which was latched onto his belt. Lyra nodded silently in response, prompting René to tell her. "Well, actually.. I was playing with it just hours ago before the fight and I manage to teleport because of it. Like what Leroy does!"
Lyra squealed as René squealed along with her, "That's amazing!"
"Yeah, pretty awesome." René smirked as he placed a hand on her shoulder, he had a cheesy smirk. "Wanna teleport somewhere?"
Lyra's cheerful smile soured into a doubtful one. She bit her thumb reluctantly, "I don't know. Mom said never to leave the house unless I have Frank (bodyguard) with me or if there's fight. But I guess it's fine if it's just inside the house!"
"Say, I didn't realize that you improved your English before. What did you do?"
"Weeelll.. I asked Dante to help me!" Lyra estatically retorted, "Dante is very smart! He's great in being a teacher!"
René stood erect, he was in a shock but just smiled. He petted her head, "Good job. But next time, don't ask strangers to teach you, alright? Only ask your big brother to help you."
"Dante isn't a stranger," René promptly took his hand off in a shock. "He's my friend. I don't see why you don't trust him anymore. Is it because you two got into a fight?"
René's eyes glinted in rage but just forcefully smiled. Though, Lyra could tell that it was fake. "Lyra, Nanny Anne's baking cupcakes. Why don't you help her out?" Lyra nodded happily and darted away. René grimaced in both regret and anger as he clenched his fist, "It's such a pain holding back in killing."
Lyra walked towards the halls, thinking deeply about Ren. Brother Ren sure has been enduring things. Is it because of me? A brief flashback viewed inside of her. "Hey, wait up!" A young Leo in the age of thirteen tackled Ren who was in his teenage years, in the age of where Rena left home.
"Well, aren't you going to beat me up?" Ren quirked a brow. Back then, he wasn't all cheerful, jokish and childish or maybe broken.
"I'd do that but you just made your own sister cry and you don't even want to help her out?!" Leo cried out, "What is wrong with you?!"
"Leo, don't beat him up too hard." A young female with brown hair arrived, yanking Leo away from Ren. "If that's what he wants, then let him do it."
"Yudelle.." Ren's eyes glinted.
Leo, on the other hand, groaned. "Well, sure! Do everything for Ren! Always stick by his side and defending him! Gah, love birds!" Leo finally got off Ren as he huffed, folding his arms and watching Yudelle approach Ren with tending care.
Yudelle giggled as she help Ren up, "It's not like that, alright? I only stick with the people who I think is right." Leo jutted his tounge out, behaving like a spoiled child.
Lyra, who was crying over the corner somewhere in the part of their garden maze. Pulling her legs tobher chest as she sobbed, she heard an unfamiliar voice. "Why are you crying?" She turned and saw a young Dante that seems to look a bit younger than he is now.
"Lyra's brother sa-said that if Lyra was too careless, she'll die one day!" Lyra turned to him and answered, sadly wiping her tears off as she whimpered.
Dante walked up to her and said, "Oh, you're Ren's stepsister, aren't you? Yeah, he doesn't accept you at all. That's the problem with him. He never accepts anyone especially if that someone has replaced a love one of his." He looked down over to her and tilted his head as his hands were shoved in his pockets, "Maan, you don't look the same as them, not even one bit. Hey, you sure you're not adopted?"
This ticked Lyra, "H-Hey! Lyra's not a foster child, you insolent man!" She cried out, but was petted on the head by Dante, "Huh?"
"Just kidding. Man, you're too gullible." Dante warmly smiled as he haunched down to her, "I'm Dante Moreau, your brother's childhood friend. Nice to meet you, Lyra Guillame." Petting her to taking it off her head, he reached out a hand and asked her, "Lyra, let's be friends, shall we?"
Lyra stared deeply at her palm, "F-Friends? Do you really mean that? People in Lyra's school always say that us Rousseaus or Guillames shouldn't make friends since we're too rich." She looked up and met up stoic eyes from Dante, "Also, making friends with Lyra's bestfriend's most hated person would ruin your friendship with Réne. Lyra will just be a nuisance as always."
"So what?" Dante chuckled, "I don't care if Ren hates me, it just pains me seeing a girl like you crying. Trust me, when I see little, I used to be like you.." he added, "Back then, I was pretty much a lonely kid. No parents and no friends. I live alone in a house with my uncle. But ever since I met Leo, somehow everything changed." He stared down at Lyra again, smiling. "Don't be so rough on yourself, alright? Crying won't help. Don't think people hate you, someone here right now actually cares for you. Your father, your mother, the staffs, Yudelle, Leo and I, too. Everyone has your back."
Tears welled up Lyra's eyes and embraced Dante, "N-No one has ever said something so tearful to Lyra! Th-Thank you, Dante." She cried on his shoulder as Dante patted her back.
Dante pulled away after a matter of seconds, "I'll ask René to apologize and treat you better. How's that?"
"Lyra is pleased. She wants René to treat Lyra nicer but in the real way." Lyra shooked her head, "Lyra doesn't like force or daring. She doesn't like demands. Lyra will wait 'till Réne speaks up the truth!"
"Hmm, smart kid." Dante smiled, "I like you."
"So this is where you are," René stepped in, panting. "Damn, this garden sure is big." Once he noticed Lyra, he paused. Then started walking up to her, "Lyra, I'm really sorry that I said that. I never..had a sister this sensitive before. Whenever I say rude things to Rena, she actually just shrugs it off. I'm sorry."
Lyra smiled, "Brother Reny, is this really true? Are you sure you didn't overheard Dante and Lyra's discussion?"
"What the heck are you talking about? Of course it's true." René quirked a brow, "Wait. Overheard? Why? What were you guys talking about?"
Lyra giggled as Dante embraced her and said, "Ren, don't say those improper words in front of a kid. Seriously, where are your manners?"
Back in reality, Lyra passed ahead of the staffs who greeted her formally. "Welcome back, Lady Lyra." Some said and some, "Greetings, my Lady. Your father has been looking for you." Some asked, "Madame Moiselle, what would you like for lunch?"
And Lyra said with a slight and brief bow, "Good morning, everyone." She turned to the nanny, Nanny Anne, who asked her lunch. "Anything will do, Nanny Anne. I'd like to help you bake cupcakes as well and I'd like to help the staffs clean the dish."
Nanny Anne, an old lady, nodded. "Please, follow this way, Madame Moiselle." While leading her out to somewhere, other staffs smiled while watching her.
"Such a happy and sweet child," a maid said, "Just like Young Master René was back then. Though, he was a lot sweeter and more considerate."
"Indeed. It's such a dissapointment that Monsieur Réne had to push that side away ever since Madame Moiselle Yudelle and his mother died. Everyone here was very high-spirited back then." The butler said, and sighed. "Except for one person.." he was obviously talking about Renartha.
"His mother died. That depressed Young Master a lot, but who would've known after Miss Yudelle died, he became beyond depressed." Another maid added, "He's already broken after getting in a fight with Monsieur Dante. I just hope he's alright."
"He's been through a lot. Even with that happy smile, he's still depressed. Just like how Monsieur Leo is." The butler added.

Lyra flopped her body over the floor as she sighed, exhausted. "Whoa, that really tired me out. I wonder if René's home." She sat straight, "Come to think if it, I wonder if he's still mad at me. I wonder how Sister Rena is doing. Speaking of which, what did I ever do to make her hate me so much?" She sat up and saw her father.
"Lyra? You were there?"
"Yes, Father. I was helping Nanny Anne bake cupcakes." Lyra esteemly bowed in respect.
"Helping her bake? Lyra, I'll remind you that you don't have to push yourself. You're special, you're not like your siblings--"
"Special? How come?" Lyra tilted her head, "What did I ever do to be special than René and Rena? Aren't they the first borns? Shouldn't you be with them right now like a real family? Renartha hates me and René's been depressed. Aren't you do something about that?"
"L-Lyra, you-you see. I told you to never talk about Aure while you're in the house and I won't, Aure and Jekyll never bothers to listen to me."
"But Father--"
"Lyra, what can't be done is what can't be done! Don't be a spoiled child!" Lyra gasped, her eyes welled up with tears. "-Lyra, I---" she ran away, out of the kitchen and outside the building.
She rushed to the garden and mistakenly tripping. She fell on her face, causing her injuries. She sat idly as she wiped her tears. Her bruises were aching her but that doesn't matter, 'cause she was crying out of sadness, not in pain. She looked over her environment, "Where am I? I..never been to this psrt of the garden before." She slowly sat up and curiously wandered around the garden.
After a matter of minutes in searching, she found a large apartment-like building over her eyes. As the wind russled her hair over her eyes, she gasped. "What is this place? How come I don't know about this building?" She stared down at the grass.
The grass was very dry, it's like it's about to die. This part of the large garden seemed to be abandoned years ago. But who's place is this? It's obvious that no one has ever entered this area ever since. Lyra doesn't recall any memories of being in this part of the garden.
She walked up to the building, "The building.. it's old." She traced her fingers over the dusty door, "My, it's dusty as well." She creaked the door open, finding another dusty room. As expected, it has so many cobwebs sticked around the corners.
Something caught the corner of her eye, she turned and found a lamp. She clicked the switch as the lamp lightened up the place. The chandelier as well, glowed shadily. Discovering a book placed on the lamp's desktop, she picked it up out of curiousity.
Blowing the dusty away, she saw its cover. "Huh? To..Renartha?" She opened the book and saw an old family photo of the Rousseau family. When René and Rena was still in their teenage years and their mother was still there.
"This is..their mom?" She ran her finger over Mrs. Rousseau's image, she smiled. "She's pretty." Flipping over and began a page, she read.
Dear Renartha,
I knew it might be inconsiderate of me to just abandone my daughter and son, leaving them to a loving father who loves me no more but I swear, one day, I'll come back for you. Only when I am ready to face you and René as a real mother.
Please take care of Lyra Guillame for me, for your father. I understand that you and René hate her. She's the reason of why your father and I divorced - The reason of why you hated her - The reason of why this family had caused great hatred to one another - The reason why I left.
I know your father loves Lyra's mother more than me. I left so that I won't be a burden to their love anymore. When this child was born, I first thought she was nothing but when I realized that I need to get into my senses and accept the truth that the child didn't really knew a thing.
When this child was born, our family broke, our trust of bonds were berivened. I heard that you left because of that child, I heard that both of you and René hated her.
René's gentle and considerate side dispersed because of this child. You, Renartha, left the house and continued to hate her. You even lived on your own. Your father has grown in depression after being hated by the both of you.
She was given birth by her mother the same like how I brought birth to you two, my darling twins.
Please be safe..
Sincerely, Lataille Rousseau
Lyra broke in tears. She felt light footsteps coming over, but she didn't care. It was her fault. She shouldn't have borned. Her birth brought destruction to the world. The door slightly creaked open, "Lyra?"
She turned and saw her brother, she sniffed. "I-It was all my fault."
"What?" René's eyes trailed down and saw the book in her hands, "Where did you get that?"
"It was all my fault! The reason why Rena left.. It was because of me, wasn't it?"
"Lyra, that's not important now. The important thing is why you're here.. You shouldn't be here," René took steps closer to her, reaching his hand out to the book but Lyra scampered away.
"Stay away from me! You've been enduring it, haven't you? Whenever you look at my face, it just reminds you of what happened back then. Big Brother, would you be happy if I died?" Tears ran down her cheek, "You.. Y-You were a good person back then, and that changed ever since I was born. Everything's my fault. I shouldn't have been borned!"
She slammed the book at René's chest and dashed away, crying. René calls her from afar, but she didn't look back. She doesn't want to. Why would she show her despicable face in front of his good brother?
"I-I'm.. I'm the worst..!" She sniffled, "I hate myself!" She then bumped into someone's chest, she gasped as she looked up. "Dante?" She took steps backwards away from him.
"Lyra, why are you..crying?" Dante worriedly asked.
More tears ran down her cheek, "Stay away from me, Dante. I'm a bastard child. All I ever did was cause a disaster in my family! I have no right to be called a Rousseau!"
Dante's eyes shot open, "You..know?" He shooked his daze away and reached his hand out to Lyra's, "Lyra, give me your hand." Lyra yanked her hand away from his.
"Why? What are you trying to do, Dante?" And it clicked, "Wait. Are you trying to erase my memories?" She cowered back as she held her hand closer to her chest. She was afraid of Dante.
"That doesn't matter. I need you to calm down."
Dante's eyes glown glowing blue, prompting Lyra to shield her eyes. "No! I'm not letting erase my memories." When the coast was clear, she looked down to her palms. "Dante, you're trying to erase my memories? Why? Is it because my father asked you to?!"
"Lyra--"
"I've been here several times, didn't I? You were always watching me and whenever I approach this place, you erase my memories!" Her eyes welled up more, "Dante, why was it you? Why does it have to be you? You were always there for me, you're the one who I trusted most and it was just to watch over me in case I find out?"
"That's not it--"
"I can't trust you anymore," water began to encircle around her. "In fact, I don't believe anything you say right now. Everything's nothing to me now. The world's nothing to me. You're nothing to me." This shattered Dante's heart from inside. This isn't Lyra anymore. This is the different her: The White Serpent.
Watching Lyra scream as water immersed everywhere in the mansion, halfly drowning Dante. Leo who just arrived in the Rousseau Manor's front gate, pratically coming to check Dante out. "Coming to René's house... Checking on Dante.. Checking if the house is still in.." he stopped his tracks as he saw a bubble of water swallowing the mansion whe, he paysed. "..piece..." he blinked, taking his eyeglasses off and rubbing his eyes.
He cowered backwards as he formed his fingers in a frame, measuring the whole bubble, mumbling to himself in a shock. "That bubble that big..could possibly mean only one thing." He snagged out his Guardian pin and tossed it up in the air in a panic, "Guardian Crest, Assemble the Guardians!"
The pin flashed in golden light twice as it unleashed a wheel of ancient symbols in the sky. A message of ancient symbols that have the symbols of each animal or bug emblem of each Guardian. Only Guardians know the wheel's significance, not any other human being understands this. Each of this message is placed invisibly in the midair close to any Guardian. It is invisible to the naked eye.
Renartha who was busy stocking her shop, froze when something caught her eye. "What the?" She looked out to the window and saw the Guardian wheel. "Guardian Constellation? Right now?"
"I sense..danger, disgrace, depression, fear and loss of hope." The Swan Guardian's spirit, Yumi, spoke in aonotone as she sat idly on the counter's desktop. "All these sentiments could only mean one thing. Someone's out of control, and that someone is Lyra. Aren't you going to help her out?"
Rena turned her eyes at Yumi, "Oh please. You? Worried about Lyra? Or perhaps you're just worried about her spirit, Mosseau?" At this, Yumi stayed silent. "Tch, this is why I hate siblings. You answer to nothing because of them."
"White swans..in dreams are symbolic of cleansing and
purifying ourselves and our lives. They represent dreams, grace and beauty. You, on the other hand, don't embody purification and cleanse at all. Instead, you live in a shallow world where no one can approach you." Yumi said, looking down. "Black swans indicate deep mysteries within us that are longing to be set free to express themselves creatively - perhaps as Bridgid would have us do, in poetry or music. René embodies that side very well, unlike you."
"Then how about Ara? Isn't she as mean as me or Ethane?"
"Aracelie has developed a misanthropic loathing for humanity and its repeated idiosyncrasies of hatred, evil, and conflict. You should apprehend her facts." Yumi taunted her more. Both glares were scary enough that the fight wouldn't end in a short and simple way. "So? Aren't you going to visit her?" She added.
Rena rolled her eyes as she transformed into her swan outfit, "I'll have you know that I hate it when somebody forces me to do something irresponsible." With those words, she fled off with a staff.
Yumi sighed and muttered to herself, "It's not irresponsible when it comes to saving your sister."
René stopped his tracks when he saw the message in the sky, he gasped. "Not now!" Walking around the mansion, he saw the large bubble. "Who could..possibly had done this?"
"Ren!" He turned and saw Leo coming towards him, "Dude, I've been looking for you!"
René cocked a brow, "Wait. For me? Why? What's happening to the mansion?"
"You didn't know?" Ren gave him a stern face. "Your sister is out of control! Lyra's swallowing the whole mansion! Actually, it's not her. It's the White Serpent!" Leo grabbed his collar, shaking him. "You gotta help her calm down!"
"This is..all Lyra's doing?" René rationalized, then took Leo's hands away from his collar. "Fine, let's do it. But I don't want to hurt her. She's my sister after all, I guess I can help her calm down."
Leo chuckled, "I've been waiting for you to admit that since we were teens." He raised his fist up to his chest as his ring emitted a flash. In a flash of golden light, he transformed into the Celestial Sun Lion. René, on the other hand, didn't changed. "Dude, why aren't you changing?"
"No... I don't want Lyra hurt. I want to talk to her with words. Therefore, I won't transform. That'll only make things worst."
A hopeless sigh was heard, "Art thou certain?" Belk who was in his human form, having white brushed-back hair, dark clothes: a long-sleeved shirt with a turtle neck and had long black and chartreuse-striped trousers. "The White Serpent's spirit, Mossa, is disappearing because of that young lady. When she dies, the lady may die as well. Hence, they art connected with one another. They feel the same feeling compared to thee and I, René. Aside from that, thou have at least a small time before she reaches her limit and dies. If thee shalt to save the young lady, then save Mossa."
René clenched his fists, "Fine! Thanks fot the info, Belk!" He took steps back then rushed forward, leaping into the bubble as he held his breath.
"You're-You're just leaving him be just like that?!" Leo said to Belk, who remained calm. "What kind of spirit guardian are you?!"
"Hmm? I am just letting him do what he wants, why? Is there a problem with that?" Belk confidently said, with black mists evolving around his hand. "Thou cannot stop a man who's out to save a lady from distress. Where art thy manners? Wherefore dost he want to save her? Wherefore dost everyone behave so morally? Thus, it is considering that they art believing what they want to believe. But how about you? Thou love the young lady known as Abigail, but dost she love you as well?"
"You know?"
"It is very..evident to us spirits. I have witnessed that from René before. Preached homily, yet did not apprehend. He never listened, instead, he says 'I'll protect the ones I care about no matter what' though, how unthoughtful. The young lady prominently dubbed as Yudelle had sacrificed herself for her love one. That advantage where René wanted to protect her had instantly vanished without a trace and he began to live in a shallow world. Thou don't want that happen to thyself, correct?"
"Yeah, but there's just one thing." Leo turned to him with an optimistic face, "I don't care if Heiress doesn't love me back! Whom I'm trying to protect is everyone!" He leapted inside the bubble.
Belk chuckled and stared at the raining sky, "My, such an optimistic soul. Perfect for being the Guardian of the sun - the one whom glints so bright filled with hope and desire. But apparently, yearning cannot solve anything that much." He began dissolving away in particles of dark purple feathers and mists. "Hmm, I wonder if Adele is still yearning for the first born child (Jarell) to change into a proper man he's supposedly be."
René who got in fast and landed his feet on ground examined the whole mansion, "Whoa, everything looks so dry." And just when he looked down, his clothes weren't wet. How is that possible? The manor seemed to be looking the same as it is before except that no one was there.
Everything was quiet. Very quiet. "René..." a hand passed over René's shoulder, making René bind his strings around its wrists and toss the person down in front of him.
"Don't ever lay a single dirty finger on my skin, bastard--" and that's when he realized it was Leo. His eyes baffled as he stunned, "Huh? Leo? You came after me?" He unbinded the strings, making Leo feel more comfortable.
The ground broke after he tossed Leo down. Luckily, Leo was wearing his armor or he would've been crushed. "Maan, never thought I'd see that cruel side of you again." He sat up, hitching his breath. He exercised his shoulder, wheeling his arm around. "Duuudddee, you almost broke my arm."
"Sorry, I thought you were--"
"Who? Lyra? If it was her, would you have done the same?" Leo gazed up at René with stern eyes, "Do you even love your sister?"
"Of course I do," René huffed, passing ahead of him. "I'm just trying to keep myself out of trouble." He walked away from Leo and went to the main room.
Leo groaned as he recovered, following René. "But you're already in trouble. You made Lyra upset, remember?" Ren abruptly stopped his tracks, causing Leo to bump on his back mistakenly. "Hey. Why'd ya stop?" Tilting his head to the other side, he saw her. "Oh my."
They saw Lyra in a form of a half serpent and human: like a mermaid.
Her lower body was in a form of a large serpent's body made out of glowing neon blue water. Her lower arms were made out of the same glowing blue water as well. Her hair was loosen as her eyes were pure glowing blue.
Her clothes were different, she wore a blue and navy blue sunset dress. Well, only looks like a dress since half of her body is a serpent.
Her loosen hair was levitating ambigously, "Leeoo..Faustus Pierre... I have to destroy you. I don't trust anymore except family." She shot a couple of swords made out of water at Leo who dodged it, but got a narrow cut on his right shoulder.
He gasped, "Just water and it already pared me!"
"Just like apple parings..right?" Lyra said in monotone to Leo as she tilted her head in a dull manner. "Doesn't it feel good..to be skewered, Big Brother?" She asked Ren who faltered himself in silence. "Fine then, you don't want to talk? It's alright. I'm fine with you hating me, but why can't you just say it already?"
"N-No, you misunderstood--"
"It's not that bad admitting your true feelings, Brother. Don't you feel shattered for lying?" She theorectically said as more tentacle-like whips rised behind her back. She turned to her right, leading Ren to turn as well.
And there it was. Their parents and the staffs tied up in her water tentacles, immured inside a water bubble. "Keeping them there would protect them. I'll do anything to protect my family. So if one of you try to hurt them, then I'll hurt you. An eye for an eye, is it? If you Guardians try to threaten me by trying to kill one of my relatives, I'll screw you all myself. Big Brother, die for me." She swirled around in a spiral motion as she lunged to Ren, creating rapier and ready to pierce it through Ren but someone was there to interrupt.
Dante smacked the rapier away by his whips of blue flames right after arriving in front of Ren, "Telling..your brother to die after saying that you'd do anything to protect a family member doesn't make sense at all." He acerbically spoke in a raspy voice. His throat was dry because of ignitint flames.
"You don't make sense!" Lyra ranted as the water tentacles lunged at Dante. "You're nothing to me! Go away!" Dante dodged all of them but it slashed back at him from behind, prompting Dante to lose his defense skill and get whipped by the tentacles.
Dante crashed on the ground as Leo ran up to him but a sword's tip was lunged close to his neck, "Try to move and I'll kill you~ Got that?" Lyra had an psychotic smile on her face.
"This isn't..the Lyra I know! She used to be kind and sweet, and now she's vicious and merciless!" Leo ranted.
Lyra unfazedly looked down at him since she was taller now because of her serpent body. "True, but who wants that hell of a sweet and deprived child?" Both glares were honing at one another.
Rena rushed inside in her form of a white swan princess who is actually a superhero in reality. All Guardians are very different when it comes to outfits. René looks like a Black Butler (Haha) who wore a coat tail. Ara and Zar looks like a commander. Dante looks like an alchemist. Leroy looks like Hiro from Big Hero 6.
"Whither are you going, my lady?" Rena paused and turned. Only one person has such a formal archiac. Belkyrll, the spirit of the black swan. "Aren't you supposed to be in your homeless land of bias and prejudice? Misanthropes aren't welcome in this facility, dearest." Belk confidently smiled as he looked up at Rena, cross-sitting on the staircases' rails.
"Belkyrll, why aren't you with René?" Rena ignored his question.
"Hmm? Well, how about thou? Whither art Yumi? Isn't she supposed to be with you?"
"She's not here right now. Again, why aren't you with René?"
Belk tilted his head with a steer face and said in monotone, "Master René is out to save the young lady that we all know whose name is Lyra Guillame." His eyes fell as he smiled slightly happy, "He's finally repaying all his debt. And you, wherefore have thou come here?"
Rena grimaced and looked away from his curious gaze, "I can't answer that." She passed ahead of him and slowly leapted into the bubble.
"'In order to keep on living, as I repeat tomorrow, yesterday, and today, I'll do my best to keep the heart in this chest from growing cold'- That's what René keeps on saying." Belk mumbled to himself.
A sword launched at Dante but René took the hit for him. Its watery blade pierced into his chest as he fell down, coughing out water instead of blood. Dante ran up to him and held the back of his head, "Why did you..do it? Even though if I wasn't your friend anymore..?"
René warmly smiled, "Silly fool. You were always my frien, and that'll never change. Even though if you were the one who caused Yudelle's death. I'm sorry I blamed you for that. It wasn't really your fault when you lost control and almost crushed me whole."
"You idiot, it is my fault. I'm the one who made your lover sacrifice for you." René coughed out water even though he was smiling, saying that he agrees with the statement of being called an idiot and says that he won't die.
Lyra who's eyes filled with nothing at all. Actually, it was a mix of unfaze and concerns. "I.. I..killed Brother. No, I wanted him to die. Wait, is that even right?" She mumbled beneath her breath, covering her face with her palms. "What have I done? No, I was trying to kill Dante. Not him. Therefore, it's not my fault.. it's not..my fault. Not again..."
Dante steered over at the poor Lyra who was baffled about what's happening, placed René down gently after whispering to his ear, "You'll be fine, I promise." He raked over to Leo and told him, "Watch over Ren for me. I'll deal with her."
Leo obediently nodded and decided to mend his injury by patching it up with a bandage. "You can breathe, right?"
"Yeah," René faintly answered as he rapidly breathed for air, "Despite the fact that my whole body is filled with water now. I don't feel like I'm human anymore." He looked over to Lyra who was facing Dante's words. "Well, if I'm like this.. she's gotta be in a much more worse of a condition."
"Ren, let's get you out of here!" Leo planned to carry him in a bridal style but was interrupted.
"You can't.. Lyra controls water. I'm a part of her water now. If we got out of the bubble, she'd just kept me in it."
"Lyra, look at yourself! Is this what you wanted?! To become a monster that almost killed your brother?!" Dante shouted as he reasoned with Lyra, walking up to her even though Lyra's serpent body was tall. "You kept your family imprisoned in a bubble! Do you think you're happy with that?!"
Lyra's eyes glinted in fear as she turned to Dante and glared at him, "Didn't I told you to go away?!" She launched back her watery tentacles at him. But Dante dodged them perfectly by just ducking or swerving.
"Yes, but I have something to you." Dante steerly said, scaring Lyra a bit. She slashed a pair of tentacles at him, but Dante caught them. He walked up to Lyra from a mile away 'till he made it in front of her. "Something that should've told you a long time ago." He pulled the tentacles down, causing Lyra to bend down to him forcefully. She was now facing Dante. Their faces were inches closer, Lyra was nervous.
The tentacles dissolved away by Dante, prompting Lyra to gasp in fright. He leaned closer to her and whispered to her ear, "I can't let you say..that everything's just nothing to you.. I can't let you say..that the world's nothing to you.. I can't let you say..that I'm nothing to you.." he embraced Lyra slowly and said to her in a low voice, "Because, I'm.. I'm..in love with you.." Lyra'a eyes widened, though, after a couple of minutes, she hugged back.
The water around the mansion, René's parents, the staffs and Lyra's serpent body disappeared. Lyra embraced Dante more, "Did you really mean that?" She was madly blushing. (But I'm going to admit that Marinette's blushing is redder than Lyra's blush OR her ladybug suit.)
Dante gladly smiled, "Of course I did. Believe me when I say that I don't want to lose anyone."
"I"ve been believing in you for a long time, because I trust you." Lyra's eyes then glinted in happiness and love as she oozingly said, "I-I'm so ha-happy~ I-I-I can't stop smiling~"
After pulling away, a small chuckle was released. "Well, wha da ya know? Lyra's real love finally showed up." It was Renartha. She was oddly smiling but soured due to Leo's case of dropping his jaw. "I'll call the doctor. This time, it's not anyone who's the patient, it's Ren." She snagged out a phone and began dialing.
"Th-Thanks, Rena," René coughed out more water as Leo panicked and grabbed out a hanky to prevent Ren's bleeding (of water). "I never thought you'd call a doctor for me."
"Man, you're still alive?" Rena blunted, ruining René's passionate moment and preach.
"Wh-What is wrong with you?!" René freaked, wiggling like a child and coughing out more water. Leo promptly panicked and started to make him calm down. "I was kinda happy!"
Leo sulked shamefully, "You had to ruin the moment, do you?"
Lyra walked up to Rena, holding the book again in her hands. This was clearly given by Dante when she slammed the book to his chest earlier. "U-Uhm, Rena?" Rena turned, still waiting for the person to answer.
"Lyra?"
Lyra blushed in embarrassment. It's been long since she hasn't talked to her sister in a proper conversation, all of them were brief and short. "Th-This is the book Mrs. Rousseau-- I-I mean, your mom wanted to give you! It's really important and she wanted you to read it." She perked her head down nervously as she lend the book to Rena.
Expecting a glare from her sister, Rena abruptly smiled in a warm manner and accepted the book. She briefly chuckled, "Thanks, sis, I'm sure I won't forget every page." And something had to disturb the moment, Rena's caller finally answered. "Oh, yes? Right, please come here, I ... ... ..."
Afterwards, everyone was spending time enjoying the end of the day. René was smiling a bit as Leo smiled down at him st the hospital. Even though he had heavy injuries, he looked fine. He still survived after being stabbed like that anyway.
Rena's eyes welled up as she read the book in her antique shop. Tears streaked down her cheek, prompting her to wipe them.
"Dante! Dante!" Lyra ran up to Dante blissfully from the hill they were earlier in the morning. "Wait up!"
Dante blanched in horror as he stood up and cowered away, "S-Stop! Stay away from me! I'm cursed, remember?!" But that really help. Nothing stops Lyra from doing something she wants, not even Dante's wishes.
"Of course!"
"Then stay away!"
" It can't be helped! For some reason, I want to stay with you!" As Lyra catched up to Dante, she tackled over him, hugging him. "Love ya~~"
"Oh so you tackle me instead of Zariffe?"
Lyra's smile disappeared as she genuinely told him, "I don't really know what I saw from Zariffe. Honestly, I didn't choose wise enough in my interests."
"How about me? Do you really love me?"
"Yes. Honest." Lyra snuggled her head on Dante's chest, "After all, I have to choose wisely on someone who'll definitely love me back and love me for who I am!" She kissed Dante in the cheek as Dante smiled.
"Love you too.. Lyra.."
And that's the end for this special chapter. Next is about Adrienette and surely, it'll make ya squeal! Fangirls!
