Chapter 4

EDAN

The elevator's door dinged open. I walked down the illuminated brown hallway of the thirtieth floor and towards my office.

"Black coffee," I ordered my secretary as I walked past her table and into my office. I removed my jacket and throw it on the couch in front. Loosening my tie, I opened the two buttons of my shirt and let out an exhausted breath. Who said you had to work less when you own a company? It was only more duties, more hard work, and more of the daily grind. But again, with great power comes great responsibility and this wasn't something I couldn't take.

Lying back on my chair, I massaged my shoulders to ease up the tensed muscles. My day as usual was packed with back-to-back meetings, site visits, and lunch dates with the potential business partners which were also just a fancy name to give to a business meeting. My every day followed the same routine. Meetings, projects, discussions, alliances, revisions, repeat. In short, work, work, and a lot of fucking work. And just like all those scheduled days, nothing was out of the ordinary today except one thing. One thing that happened out of my planned schedule of mine and the very thing that managed to catch my attention. Maybe a little too much.

A light knock came, disrupting my thoughts of that one out-of-the-ordinary thing. "Come in," I said whilst resting my head against the back of my brown mahogany chair and my eyes stared at the door. She came in clicking her heels against the marbled floor and my eyes traveled from her brown eyes to her slender neck and then to her chest - heaving fast enough to let me know what effect I had on this woman. On every woman.

"Sir! Here's your coffee," my secretary whispered as she bent down a bit too much than needed. Her cleavage was on full display and I knew she undid some more of the buttons of her red floral blouse before coming here. "Just the way you like it." She whispered seductively and slowly stood up straight. She brushed her thick blond hair behind her right ear and then traveled her fingers lightly on her neck, caressing it whilst looking at me the whole time.

I smirked. I knew what she wanted. Her half-unbuttoned shirt, her glimpse of red lacy bra, her skirt that now rode a little higher on her thighs, her flustered face followed by her slightly parted perfectly coated red lips and that lust in her eyes said it all. She was here to give a repeat of what happened last week. She was here for more but poor girl... I guessed she didn't know this yet. I, Edan Wilton, never fuck the same girl twice. No matter how good she was in bed, her looks or blow jobs, I don't make exceptions.

"Leave," I said and took a sip of my coffee. Bitter. Just the way I like it.

"I-"

"Leave," I growled this time without looking at her. She stood there for a second or two and then turning around, she took hesitant steps towards the door. As the door clicked closed, I grinned. Women. All the same. Such pathetic creatures. They couldn't just wait to crawl into the bed of some rich guy and if that person was lucky enough to have as good looks as mine, women begged for their attention. One way or another.

Women...

My mind drifted to one in particular. Brown hair, gray eyes, and warm porcelain skin hidden beneath her oversized clothes. The fire in her a few steps away to be blazed upon me and her burning gaze against my cold one.

Now, that was interesting...

I took the last sip of my coffee and stood straight. Time to get back to work. I looked through the documents placed on my table. There were around twenty files placed on my desk. Some probably waiting for my approval, some report the details about our sales, and some probably holding the key information about our competitors and rivals. I needed to get through them and then I had an online conference call with a Japanese company scheduled at nine. I looked at the clock showing seven in the evening. Two hours to go through these files.

I took the first blue-colored file and skimmed through the reports in them. Our sales charts looked good as compared to the last month and they were constantly increasing. I took another file and it was regarding the recent project presented in the meeting waiting for my approval. I read through the details and then the contracting team. My eyes lingered on a name a second longer. Emmaline.

Emma.

Stop! I need to focus!

I closed my eyes and let out a sigh. I counted to five and after putting my mind at ease, I returned my attention to my unfinished work. I didn't have time to waste on such fleeting encounters and foolish thoughts. I have more important matters at hand. I signed some documents and moved on to the next stack of papers. Hardly had I finished looking through two more files when my eyes caught another name, Emma Kane. I shuffled through the pages and reach the team group's photo at the end. It was foolish of me to think that the name I read might belong to her. There were many women by the name of Emma but before I could stop, my eyes were already skimming through the photo in search of a familiar face.

No matter how hard I tried to concentrate on work, my mind would end up wandering to our fleeting moment one way or another and this was for once, annoying. All I could think of was her as I studied each face. Nope. None. I should have known. If she was an employee of my company, why would she be doing there during working hours? And if she was my employee, she would have recognized me immediately.

It was unexpected for me to go there at such a place. Had it not been for a meeting in the near restaurant, I would have never visited some local overly-crowded cafe. I had been to Greenwich Village before but not to that area of the city and it was just by chance, an accident. Had it not for my car breaking down in the middle of the drive, I would have never gone there. Five-star restaurants, I went. Cafes, not so much.

I was busy writing a message on my phone to inform about my tardiness at an important meeting due to that stupid tire. I was looking at my phone, typing the message when my body collided with something soft, with someone soft. One of the very reasons I hated crowded places. Too many people bumping into each other.

I waited for her to step aside but she seemed determined enough to stand in front of me. I ignored her as she continued trying to make some dumb point. Whatever she was saying, I didn't care. I was sure she would shut up and would eventually apologize and leave but... she proved me wrong. Instead of disappearing, she happened to grab my attention the moment she yelled those words. 'Apologies and I would settle this up like civilized people.'

Didn't she know who she was dealing with? I could have ruined her with a snap of my fingers if I wanted to. I could have ruined her career, her whatever job in a matter of seconds. Either she was really valorous or dumb enough to mess with me. Whoever she was, the only thing I knew, it was fun and I was enjoying it. I observed her from head to toe. She wasn't too much of a beauty but she wasn't bad as well. With some more fitted clothes and a little make-up, she could become pretty enough.

When the blond girl rushed towards her calling her name, a slight smile formed on my lips.

Her name was Emma.

She was talking to that girl and I could tell from her face that she was furiously mad and the way she clenched her hands in a fist, I felt she was planning on attacking me. Me? Foolish little kitten. At that time, only one word flashed through my mind.

Interesting

'I am going to teach him some manners,' was all I heard her say as my lips curled up in a smirk still amazed by her ignorant foolish self.

I stared at my hand as I remembered how I caught her fist and held her. Her skin was soft against my touch and I liked the way she sucked in a breath when our bodies collided and there, I wanted to see more of her. More of her sides, more of her expressions, more of her soft skin.

She tried to set her hand free, but my grip was stronger. She wanted me to say sorry? Me apologizing to some young naive girl? That'd be absurd. Women followed me, they wanted me, my money, my fame and yet this foolish person was unaware of that. I don't apologize, show gratitude, or do small warm talks. Those are the meaningless pleasantries holding no significance whatsoever. What made her think that I'd apologize to her? Stupid girl.

I closed my eyes. My lips turned up in a grin as her burned-up face and blazing eyes came into my mind. When I winked at her and called her by her name I could see the shock mingled up with her perplexed and furious look. She was an interesting one, a hot-headed one and now she had me interested in her.

When I said those words, 'Till next time, Emma!', I didn't think them through but now, as I recall our little heated session, I wanted to make sure there come more than just a single next time. And I would. It was her fault she grabbed my attention and stole my precious time and now, I would make sure to give a little taste of mine.

I picked up my phone and texted the number I have only ever contacted for business matters. To gather dirt around my rivals and to use them for more significant matters. Only this time, it might involve some but not entirely personal means. But no one had to know that.

Emma. CafeDelight. Greenwich Village.

I typed the little I knew about her and sent it. I didn't even know whether she was there just visiting one of her favorite cafes or working there but the way that blond girl in her apron ran towards her calling her name, my guess was with the latter one. The receiver sent a confirmation message as I sat back and waited for him to do his work. He was an expert in his field and one thing was sure, I would be having all the details of little Miss Emma in a matter of minutes, the only reason I was paying him a handsome amount of little digging.

My phone vibrated indicating a new email had been received. I opened my email on my laptop and as my eyes landed on her gray ones staring back at me, my lips curled up in a smirk.

"Oh little kitten, you don't know what's coming your way."

Let me hear your thoughts.
