Chapter 14: Not Needed

"Ms. Jeon, I would like to stop convincing Hong Jisoo to join the competition"

She stopped what she was doing, putting her pen down and turned to face me. She had a frown on her face and I'm sure she didn't like what I just said.

Earlier, I decided to tell Ms. Jeon that I would like to stop. To be honest, it's quite tiring to keep convincing a person who doesn't even want to join. It's useless. I don't know why I'm suddenly like this, but I just wanted to do it. I know I was very determined that I could change his mind, but whatever I do he'll never change his mind. Wow. I can't believe I'm giving up already.

What I'm doing is right, right? No. I'll only put the school into shame. Rumors might even spread about me. Park Hyemi, the girl who made our school into a laughingstock. Just thinking about that makes me shiver from fright. What should I do now? I don't know anymore...

"What do you mean you want to stop?" Ms. Jeon said, raising a brow. I never knew she could look scary. "Are you hearing yourself right now, Park Hyemi?"

I just lowered my head and not say anything. Of course I heard what I just said, but I wasn't sure whether about it. I'm doubting myself.

"What's your reason why you suddenly want to stop?"

I slightly frowned. My reason? I took a short glance at her and let me say, she looked disappointed. "Ms. Jeon, I just don't want to do it anymore. I couldn't concentrate with my studies anymore because all I think about is how can I change his mind to join the competition" I told her as she took a sigh. She turned, held her pen, and continued what she was doing earlier.

"I understand. You can stop convincing him just like what you want" she said and my eyes widen. No way... is she for real?

"Really?"

She nodded. "Yes, now, go back to your classroom before it's too late"

I nodded and gave her a short bow before running off. I can't believe she just allowed me to stop convincing him. Does that mean I'm free now? I slightly smiled. I can finally stop thinking about how to make him change his mind. I can finally hangout with my friends!

"You guys won't believe what just happened!" I said as I slammed my hands on the table, making a loud noise. Good thing the students in the cafeteria didn't look at my way or else I would've been very embarrassed. Mingyu, Jun, and Minhee gave me a look of interest. From the look on their faces, I knew they were ready to hear what I'm gonna say. "Remember what I told you guys about Ms. Jeon asking me a favor?"

"What about it?" Mingyu asked as he took a bite of his cheese burger.

"Well apparently, that favor was about me convincing a student to join a competition--" I was cut off by Jun.

"You mean the school competition wherein a lot of schools will compete with each other?" Jun's eyes slightly widen and I just gave him a nod.

"Yes, now let me finish. I told Ms. Jeon that I wanted to stop, and surprisingly, she accepted it" all their eyes widen and so did their mouths. 

"Does that mean you're free from it already?" Minhee asked as I nodded. "We can finally hangout without you being busy!"

The four of us cheered from joy. At least I can finally hangout with them without anything bothering me. We were enjoying our food and of course, our conversation. Jun, Mingyu, and Minhee shared what they've been up to. Apparently, the reason why Minhee is always called by our teacher is still a secret. She wouldn't tell us because we might get spoiled by it.

As we were in the middle of our conversation, a female student slammed the cafeteria door open-- which made every student stop what they were doing and look at her-- and shouted, "There's a student from another school here!"

Another female student stood up and asked, "Is it a male?" the girl at the door nodded, and that's where most of the female students in the cafeteria left, except for some.

"A male?" Jun questioned.

"From another school?" Mingyu continued.

"Wait, isn't that trespassing?" I asked, which made them nod.

"It is, but if you have an appointment with the principal then I guess it's fine" Minhee answered as I slightly nodded.

"Should we go and check it out?" Mingyu asked and we looked at each other. Without any second thoughts, the four of us stood up and left the cafeteria.

We were just casually walking in the hallway, trying to find where the other girls went. Until we heard someone squealed loudly, which can be heard throughout the hallway. We ran to wherever the squeal came from and we reached a crowd of girls. Since Mingyu and Jun were tall, they could see what's happening in the other side. "Do you know who the student is?" I asked and they both shook their heads.

"Obviously, we wouldn't know who it is" Mingyu told me.

"But he does have nice hair" Jun said, which made me frown. Hair? That dude from another school has good hair?

I was annoyed that I couldn't see who it is, so I decided to squeeze myself to the crowd. I lightly pushed them away just to pass by. Once I was there, I saw a guy wearing a blue uniform. It's obvious that he isn't from our school since our uniform is maroon. And yes, Jun was right. He does have nice hair.

Suddenly, someone pushed me lightly. I look at who it was, and surprisingly it's Hong Jisoo. An unreadable expression was written all over his face. Is there something wrong? I looked back to the student wearing blue uniform and he was looking at Hong Jisoo. He had a smirk plastered on his lips. I looked back and forth until I realized, maybe they know each other. But why does it look like they're enemies?

I waved my friends goodbye as they went out first. I was still fixing my things since I was being a turtle earlier and decided to fix my things once school is done.

Once I was finished, I made sure I didn't leave anything behind. I left the classroom and walked in the hallway alone. I'm used to walking alone anyway. There were still few students in school, mostly for studying. Well, I applaud these smart students who rather stay in school than be at home and be comfortable.

I was almost at the exit, but I suddenly heard someone speaking. I stopped my tracks and tried listening to whatever that person was saying.

"Why are you here?"

Wait. That voice sounds familiar.

"Don't you miss me, Jisoo?"

My eyes widen when I heard 'Jisoo', to the point that I almost gasped. But good thing I didn't or else I would've ruined their conversation. No, this isn't right. I shouldn't be listening to someone else's conversation. But I couldn't help but to listen. Since I couldn't help it, I stayed and continued listening to their conversation. Curiosity kills the cat, okay.

"Miss you? I never did"

"You still haven't moved on from what happened before? Wow. Jisoo, it's in the past now. Forget about it--"

"How could I forget about it when you cheated--"

"I never cheated! I won fair and square. You just can't accept defeat, huh?"

"Can't accept defeat? You were the one-- whatever. Just answer me, why are you here?"

The person snickered. "Just wanna know if you'll join the upcoming competition"

"I won't be joining, if that's the answer you wanna hear"

"Oh, Jisoo, when will you ever accept that you lost?"

There was a sudden silence. I don't know if they saw me or did they just really stopped talking. I was about to leave, but someone suddenly said:

"If you won't join, your knowledge will just go to waste. I know you're still that competitive Jisoo I used know. Join the competition and we'll compete each other just like how it used to be. Win or lose, just accept the truth"

And that was the end of their conversation since I heard footsteps fading away. Hong Jisoo and that person.. what's their relation with each other? And that person sounded like he's bringing back the past. Does that mean I'm right about Hong Jisoo having a past that's why he doesn't wanna join the competition?

No, don't just jump into conclusion. Maybe it's something else. I might just be wrong. My conclusion is not needed right now...

It took me about 3 days to finish this.

Little by little, Jisoo's past will completely be revealed.
Now isn't the right time!
