Part 8

[Wrong guess guys. LOL

It's Sanju again. :D Mujhe isse kuch khaas pyar nahi hai, par iska is bakt yaha aana story development ke liye jaruri tha. ;)]

It was none other than Sanju. He had followed Prachi to check Ranbir's condition for himself and was, at the moment, royally pissed off to see his rival in an overall good condition.

"What on earth is this guy made off? Nothing ever happens to him. Seems like even accidents don't work on him. Argh! I will ..." He stopped abruptly as he saw Prachi frowning all of a sudden and starting to turn towards the door.

Instantly, he hid himself behind the wall beside the door. He strained his ears to listen if Prachi was approaching the door.

"Why did I feel that someone had been watching us? Why can't I still get rid of this creepy feeling? I will go and check." Prachi muttered to herself, looking at the door.

Unnoticed by others, she slipped away. Hearing her approaching footsteps, Sanju grimaced and wildly looked around for a hiding place. He saw a pillar a few feet away, wide enough to hide him. He dashed towards it and hid behind it.

The sound made by running footsteps failed to escape Prachi's sharp ears. Alert and watchful, she hurried out of the room and walked towards the direction she had heart the running footsteps going.

She had almost reached the pillar when Sanju began to sweat profusely. He closed his eyes tightly as there was no other place nearby where he could hide. There was an alley a few feet away but to reach there he would have to come out from his hiding place and in full view of Prachi.

Prahi had reached the pillar by then and was about to check behind it, when someone placed a hand on her shoulder. Startled, Prachi whirled around only to find Sahana in front of her.

"What are you doing here? Everyone was asking for you." Sahana looked at her, puzzled.

"Sahana, I felt as if someone was watching us and then I heard footsteps coming towards this pillar. I am sure someone is hiding behind it. Wait, I will just check." Prachi looked at Sahana with determined eyes.

Prachi walked around the pillar but found no one there.

While she was talking to Sahana, Sanju slinked away, keeping an eye out for the two girls and managed to hide in the alley between two rooms.

"Really? Who is here? I can't see anyone. Can you?" Sahana looked at Prachi, exasperated.

"No. But I am sure I...." Prachi began.

"That's why I ask you to read romantic novels instead of the scary thrillers you prefer. It's affecting your brain. Now let's go. Come on." Sahana interrupted Prachi and holding her hand dragged her along.

"Thank God! Or rather, thank you would be sister in law. You saved me from my would-be detective life partner." Sanju guffawed, but then sobered up "I will deal with ranbir later, now it's time to teach that aunt and niece a lesson."

Determined, he made his way out of the hospital.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Prachi and Sahana walked back into the room. Everyone turned towards them.

"Where did you go?" Ranbir stared at Prachi anxiously.

"To see if someone can answer how a person can be so irresponsible about his own safety." Prachi glowered at Ranbir.

Gulping hard and staring at her fearfully, the poor guy sank back into the pillows.

"I...actually....I..."Ranbir stuttered to a stop.

"You actually what? How can you be so irresponsible about your own safety, Ranbir? Were you drunk while driving?" Prachi looked at him with eyes narrowed in suspicion.

"No Prachi. I promise. I haven't touched alcohol." Ranbir hastily defended himself with wide eyes.

"Then are you blind? Go have your eyes checked. Were you driving with your eyes shut?" Prachi advanced towards his bed, still frowning heavily.

Pragya was about to chide Prachi when Daljeet stopped her.

"It's her right, beta. Let's leave them alone. They must have many things to say to each other." Daljeet smiled while both Vikram and Pallavi nodded with a smile.

Smiling, Pragya nodded too and looking at the bickering couple for one more time, walked out of the room along with others, leaving them alone.

Unaware of the departure of the elders, the young couple were engrossed in their own world.

"Hey! That's not fair. Here I am lying on the sick bed and you are rounding on me. Huh! No one cares for me!" Ranbir lamented dramatically making Prachi's jaw drop.

"I don't care for you? Seriously, Ranbir? Why do you think I was out of my head with worry when I heard about your accident? Why do you think I came as soon as I could if I didn't care? You are just impossible! Do you know how scared I was wondering if you are okay? Do you know what I went through till I heard from Vikram Sir that you are not that badly hurt? Do you know anything at all?" Prachi glared at Ranbir.

Ranbir smiled. She didn't realize that in her fury she had given him the information he needed. She didn't realize that the words said by her actually revealed the unsaid words in her heart. Her expressive eyes mirrorethe true feelings that she either hid or kept fighting off.

"I may not know many things. But I know one thing." Ranbir smiled.

"What thing?" Prachi was bemused by his sudden smile.

"That you care for me way more than you let on." Ranbir's smile was of pure ecstasy.

A crimson hue coloured Prachi's cheeks as she realized that through her tirade, she had actually provided him a glimpse of her inner turmoil.

"I....uh..." Prachi stuttered nervously and finally trailed away as a nurse entered the room.

"Time for your soup and juice, Mr Kohli. After that you will have to take medicines." The elderly nurse smiled affectionately.

"Firstly, call me Ranbir. Mr kohli sounds so old. That is my dad, not me. Secondly, I won't have soup. I have never liked that bland thing. Yuck!" Ranbir grimaced, making both the nurse as well as Prachi giggle.

"Tough luck, Mr Kohli. You should have thought that before landing yourself in the hospital. Now it's too late. Especially since I am here. Pallavi aunty and dadi will listen to your tantrums, not me. Come on. Be a good boy. Have the soup." Prachi smiled sweetly.

"No. I don't want to." Ranbir frowned and leant back on the pillows obstinately.

"Don't worry. I will make sure that he has both the soup and the juice. And which medicines he will have to take after having the soup?" Prachi smiled reassuringly at the older woman.

After the nurse showed her the medicine that he had to take after the light meal, she left with a knowing smile.

Sighing, Prachi took the tray from the nurse and kept it on the bedside table. Rolling her eyes, she perched on the bed beside him. Taking the steaming bowl of soup, began to stir it lightly.

"You are such a baby sometimes." She shook her head, making him chuckle.

She scooped some of the soup with the help of the spoon and after blowing on it to cool it down a bit, hold it near his mouth.

He was mesmerized by her caring nature yet again. Had he not fallen in love with her already, he would have done so at the moment. His lips curved into a small smile. Unable to refuse the sweet gesture, he leant forward and ate it.

Prachi looked up into his eyes and they both lost themslves in each other's eyes. A stray tendril of hair fall on Prachi face, disturbing her. How could Ranbir tolerate anyone disturbing his Prachi? He gently tucked the tendril behind her ear.

In the process, his fingers lightly brushed the sensistive spot behind her ear, making her shiver as a strange sensation ran down her spine.

Ranbir smiled slightly as he noticed the slight shaking of her hand. It told him without words just how much his proximity affected her.

The rest of the meal time passed without any event. Like an obedient person, Ranbir had finished the last of the soup without any tantrum.

So lost he was in her eyes and her caring nature, that he didn't even realize when he had finished the soup, let alone making faces at its bland taste. For her he could drink poison and would not even notice it. He smiled as the thought flitted across his mind.

"Why are you smiling?" Prachi stared at him, bemused.

"Because I love it when you take care of me and exert right over me." Ranbir smiled and then chuckled softly as she looked away, blushing.

"Now have your juice." Prachi proffered the glass of juice.

"I can't you see." Ranbir made an innocent face.

"Why not?" Prachi frowned in confusion.

"Because my hand hurts." Ranbir showed her his right hand.

"Okay. Then hold the glass with your left hand." Prachi rolled her eyes.

"But Prachi, the pain of my right hand trnsferred into my left hand and now both are paining." Ranbir made a puppy face.

"You are impossible." Understanding his intention, Prachi looked away for a while but not before Ranbir saw the soft smile playing on her lips.

"That I am." Ranbir chuckled.

Smiling, Prachi hold the glass near his mouth and he sipped at it instantly. The moment was witnessed by them as they were about to walk into the room.

Who are these people who witnessed the moment? Can you guess guys? Socho socho. ;)
