Part 3

[Guys, I will reply to everyone today. But first, I am posting this part. Hope you all like it.]

"Anuradha ji! Uh...please come in." Vikram stepped aside.

It was then that he saw Pranbir and Aryan.

"Prachi! So, they have released you? Thank God!" Vikram smiled at Prachi.

"Yes, Mr.Kohli. The police have released my daughter as she has been proved innocent and the real culprit is in prison now. All thanks to Ranbir. Anyways, I would like to meet your wife and Mr. Mehra's sister now. We have something to talk about it seems." Pragya's eyes were smouldering with fury.

"Uh....My wife and mother are in the hall but my friend's sister is not at home at the moment." Vikram swallowed nervously and looked at his son, who shrugged nervously.

As Pragya strode away and Prachi hurried in her wake, Vikram, Ranbir and Aryan exchanged nervous glances.

"Dad, what is going to happen now?" Ranbir stared at his father anxiously.

"A storm has been brewing silently and it is about to wash over us now." Vikram sighed resignedly.

Daljeet was the first one to notice the furious woman who had stormed into the hall of Kohli mansion.

"Anuradha puttar. When did you come?" Daljeet got to her feet.

"Just now auntyji." Pragya was stiff with the anger bubbling inside her.

Pallavi turned at their voices and as soon as she saw Pragya, her features tautened with disdain.

"Anuradha ji. I didn't know you were coming." Pallavi didn't bother being polite

"That might be because I didn't think you deserve to be informed beforehand." Politeness was not in the current agenda of Pragya too.

"Excuse me. What do you..." Pallavi began, surprised at the sudden attack.

"I mean exactly what I said. You don't deserve an explanation any more than my daughter deserved the treatment she had received from people like you." Pragya cut across coldly.

"People like me? Anuradha ji, it was your daughter who ..." Pallavi tried to protest.

"Was blamed of something she can never even think of doing and has been proved innocent as the real culprit has been arrested and is in custody now." Pragya cut across again.

This sentence finally penetrated Pallavi's anger and grabbed her attention. She turned to look at Prachi who had followed her mother and was standing a little away. She stared at her husband and son walking into the hall with Aryan.

"You mean....So Prachi didn't..." Pallavi looked around, bewildered.

"No, Mrs Pallavi Kohli, my daughter didn't. My upbringing won't allow her to commit such a crime. I thought you all knew her. I didn't know I was so wrong. I didn't know that your trust was so fragile. You believed a thief over my daughter? My daughter had been blamed time and again in your house and had always been proven innocent. Still you couldn't believe her over a thief? My daughter believed your son when Maya filed a molestation case against him and not only did she take a stand for him, sometimes in front of the media and sometimes in front of your own employees, but did everything she could to prove Ranbir's innocence. Even now she is striving to get your son out of the mess, to prevent his marriage to Maya. My Prachi is doing this even after getting threatened time and again by Maya's family. And why is she doing that? Because she trusts Ranbir's innocence and she knows that your son doesn't deserve to get married to a girl like Maya. Even after all these you couldn't trust her? You can trust a thief but not the girl who has strived day in and day out first to prove your son's innocence and then to prevent his unwanted marriage? The logic behind your action escapes me. Also, you were the one who had vented out her frustrations when you thought we didn't trust Ranbir in the molestation case, weren't you? Do tell me why we should have done that as we, too, know Ranbir since as long as you all know Prachi and all evidence was against him, too. Why should you expect unconditional trust from my daughter and her family if you are unable to return the favour? However, we did. We trusted Ranbir unconditionally, going against all logic and all evidence. Learn to practice what you preach, Mrs Pallavi Kohli. You know what your problem is Mrs Kohli? Rich people like you or rather snobbish people like you think that those who don't have as much money as you are all after your money. You think they will steal if they get the opportunity. Let me clarify this to you once and for all. Middle class people are not synonymous to thieves. If we need something, we earn it through our hard work, a concept which might be alien to you since you are used to getting whatever you want as soon as you wish for it. We work hard to achieve something and do not automatically resort to stealing to fulfill our needs. We are proud to be middle class. In fact, if high class people are like you then I thank God that I and my daughter belong to a middle class family." Pragya drew in a shuddering breath as she tried to contain her mounting fury.

Pallavi opened her mouth once and then twice but nothing came out and she bent her head as shame engulfed her. Pragya's every logical accusation had hit the mark and had rendered Pallavi speechless. It was a verbal slap on her snobbish attitude.

Pragya looked at Pallavi with open disdain and disgust and then turned towards Daljeet.

"Auntyji, I thought being an elderly woman you would at least be a better judge of characters.. I am sorry to say but I am disappointed big time." Pragya shook her head in disappointment.

Daljeet was about to say something when Pragya interrupted.

"No, auntyji. Please don't say anything now. When you had to say something you all remained silent and became mute spectators of my daughter's humiliation. Now, it doesn't matter anymore. Oh and Mr. Kohli, tell that epitome of virtue, that elusive sister of Mr Mehra, who just had to get my daughter arrested without solid evidence that my meeting with her has been postponed but not cancelled by any means. I will definitely meet her. How dared she fire Prachi from her job? I would love to know that." Pragya scowled as incandescent rage coursed through her at that woman's audacity.

"Anuradha ji, please, listen to me. She said that in anger. But we,i.e. I and my friend, wouldn't ever have allowed it. Everything happened so fast that we didn't have the time to say anything. But we wouldn't ever have fired Prachi from our office." Vikram tried to pacify the furious mother.

"Oh no. You don't need to do that anymore, Mr kohli. Because Prachi won't be working for you anymore. I won't allow her to work for Mehras and Kohlis anymore. What if something else gets stolen? You will again blame my daughter. I am not going to take that chance again. Prachi will email her resignation as soon as she can." Pragya was determined.

"Anuradha puttar, please calm down. It will never happen again. Our trust in Prachi will never waver again." Daljeet tried to calm Pragya down but to no avail.

"But what about my trust, auntyji? My trust in Mehras and Kohlis has not wavered, it has broken." Pragya said quietly.

Her these words hit the Kohlis, especially Pallavi, harder than her previous words. They just didn't know what to do to control the damage that had been turning irrevocable with each passing minute.

"In fact, that is the reason that I have come to a decision." Pragya looked at the Kohlis with a strange determination in her eyes.

What decision has Pragya taken? If you want to know keep reading and please don't forget to vote and comment to encourage me to keep writing.

I have taken out all my anger on Pallavi through Pragya. LOL Hope you all will like it. Also Pallavi bashing doesn't end here. A small hint. ;)
