Part 27

[Everyone was right about the bride being Prachi and the one who came towards the end being Maya. ;) Congrats buddies.]

Everyone received a huge shock to see the supposed bride, Maya Choubey, standing in front of them. Her perfectly coiffed hair were ruffled and perfect make up was spoiled. She was wearing a blue dress which had creases all over it.

Ranbir couldn't believe his own eyes. He could only gape at the girl in front of him in bewilderment. He was flabbergasted to say the least. The only thing that struck his shocked mind was if Maya was standing in front of him then who on earth did he get married to.

He leapt to his feet and turned to the girl beside him, who had got to her feet too. There was a relaxed air about her that suggested the strange event that had shocked everyone else to the core, failed to cause the slightest stirring in her.

"Papa, Bade Papa, Mom, don't let this marriage happen. That girl is an imposter. She is..." Maya's tirade was interrupted by her uncle.

"Maya! What are you doing here? Why are you not beside Ranbir? If you are here then who is that girl over there?" Dushyant Choubey cut in, baffled

"Let me introduce myself, Mr. Dushyant Choubey." The bride finally spoke from beneath the veil.

The voice which was closest to his heart made Ranbir turn again to the girl, hoping against hope for it to be the one person he hankered wholeheartedly for her to be.

The bride slowly lifted up her veil. Another shock wave coursed through everyone present there. The Kohlis were initially shocked but were really happy after the initial shock wore off. Abhishek's stunned expression was replaced by a smile as he thanked the Almighty for uniting the two pure souls in the sacred nuptial bond. He was elated at the totally unexpected and unforeseen turn of event.

Ranbir however kept staring at the girl beside him as all the numbness and despair drained away, leaving in its wake an intense sense of relief and exhilaration like never before seeped into his being. The desolate expression on his handsome visage was washed away by a smile of ecstasy that lit up his features from within.

"Prachi!" Ranbir sighed in utter relief and then something struck him.

He looked at the sacred fire, then at the priest and then at Prachi. Slowly, realization dawned on him and filled him with a rapture which was astonishing in its intensity.

Prachi and Ranbir turned to the Choubeys as Dushyant Choubey began to speak.

"Prachi Arora! How did you enter the villa? And how did you manage to swap place with our Maya? Answer me. I am astounded at your audacity!" Dushyant Choubey growled.

"And I am astounded at your shamelessness, Mr. Dushyant Choubey. The person who is sitting inside a glass house should not throw stones at others. I think your elders forgot to teach you this simple lesson. Or maybe you come from a long line of criminals. Hence, no one bothered after all." Prachi retaliated.

For a moment Dushyant Choubey was speechless. Prachi's retort robbed him of speech. However, soon his fury overpowered his surprise at being talked to like that for the first time since he rose to power.

"How dare you?" Dushyant blustered.

"Oh I am very daring by nature. You should have understood by now. But then if you cannot understand Ranbir's reluctance to marry Maya and have anything to do with either of you then I don't really have much hope about your brain which is filled with filth." Prachi smirked.

Ranbir gaped at the girl beside him. He knew her fury was formidable, but never imagined it could be this daunting.

"Listen, you..." Dushyant began, a nerve pulsing rapidly at his temple.

"No. It's time for you to listen. We have done that enough, tolerated enough of your nonsense. Now it's time for you to reap what you have sown. And as for how I have swapped place with your darling Maya, then let me narrate the events of an hour earlier." Prachi glowered balefully at the Choubeys.

An hour earlier

Maya was engrossed in getting ready for the wedding when a waiter knocked at the door. As she looked up at the mirror, she frowned slightly. The waiter appeared vaguely familiar but she couldn't remember where she had seen that person. Shrugging off the wayward thought,
She turned around towards the entrance.

"What happened? What do you want?" Maya asked a bit rudely.

"I don't want anything, Mam. Your mother does though." The waiter smiled sheepishly.

"What does mom want?" Maya frowned.

"She told me to bring these two ladies to her. She has some important work for them." The waiter gestured at the two other women present in the room, who were helping Maya to get ready.

"But then who will help me in getting ready?" Maya whined.

"Madam said she will send them to you soon. Till then my sister can help you. She works in a parlour too." The waiter tried to pacify the agitated girl.

"Fine. Bring your sister and take these two away with you." Maya looked away irritatedly.

"Sure, Mam. You two come with me." The waiter walked away, followed by the two women.

Mala stared back at the disappearing form of the waiter. Her brows furrowed as she tried to figure out why she was still feeling that there was a vague familiarity about this waiter. Wasn't the waiter a little too short for a man?

Outside in the corridor, the two women were following the waiter. Soon, the waiter took a turn and led them to a secluded alley leading to the service room. As the waiter reached the door, he came to an abrupt halt and turned around towards them.

"Why have you brought us here?" One of the women looked at him warily.

"Because we didn't have any other option. Look, we are sorry. But we have to do this." The waiter apologized in a feminine voice.

"Do what? What's going on here? Who are you?Are you a woman?" The second woman cried out.

In a jiffy, the door to the service room opened and a beautiful girl clad in a typical Punjabi attire walked out. Before the two women could make sense of what was going on, the waiter and the girl both placed handkerchiefs over their noses and sprayed something towards them. Within no time, the two women lost consciousness and slid down on the floor.

"Great job, Sahana." The girl patted the waiter's shoulder.

"Thanks, Prachi." The waiter grinned.

"Now, let's put the rest of the plan into action." Prachi's eyes glinted with a ruthless determination.

There was a ruthless determination in Prachi's eyes as she made her way towards Maya's room, followed closely by Sahana. Before taking the turn, however, Prachi put her dupatta over her head and hid her face beneath the veil.

As Sahana knocked on an already open door of the room of a highly annoyed bride to be, Maya whirled around.

"What on earth are you playing at? Where is your sister? Who will help me in getting ready now?" Maya demanded angrily.

"Calm down, Madam. Here is my sister. She will do the needful." Sahana smirked as she shut the door and locked it.

"Hey! Why are you locking the door? Who are you? Open the door!" Maya demanded, fear replacing anger.

"Your arch nemesis, Maya Choubey." Prachi lifted up the veil.

"Prachi! How did you get in? This is Sahana, isn't it? That's why I felt the waiter is familiar." Maya glared at them.

"Oh yes, this is Sahana at your service, Madam." Sahana laughed softly as she removed the fake moustache and beard.

"You! You both don't have any idea of the fate that is awaiting you. If my bade papa comes to know about this..." Maya began

"Don't worry, Maya. Your bade papa won't get to know about this till it's too late. And when your bade papa will come to know about it, he won't be able to do much. What did you think? You will force Ranbir to marry you and we will let it happen? You must be a fool to think that." Prachi smirked.

"I won't let Ranbir go. He is the perfect suitor for me. And after everything that I have done..." Maya trailed away.

"What things you have done, Maya?" Prachi demanded

"You think you are very smart, don't you Prachi? You think I will blurt everything out and you will record it and show it to everyone and get me arrested. I am not such a fool. You can't do anything about it Prachi. This marriage will take place. If you do something to me than my family and other people will come in search of me if the bride doesn't reach the venue on time." Now it was Maya's turn to be smug.

"So, you have accepted yourself that you have done a crime whose confession can convict you. That's confession enough." Prachi smirked.

You are right. But don't worry. The bride will reach the venue on time. So, no one will even come to know about you till late." Sahana grinned.

"What...what are you going to do?" Maya stuttered as fear began to overpower fury.

"Wait and watch" Prachi said in a singsong voice.

Prachi gestured to Sahana and both covered their faces with the handkerchiefs. Prachi fished out the spray bottle from the folds of her dupatta and sprayed it in front of Maya. Like the two women earlier, Maya too lost her consciousness and slid down on the ground, unconscious.

Prachi concluded her narration and looked at the Choubey's with a smirk as she played the recording of Maya's confession.

"We haven't gathered here to listen to your nonsense accusations on our daughter. We have had enough of your lies. Guards! Guards!" Dushyant Choubey bellowed.

Ranbir, who was till that moment just standing immobile and listening to the astonishing account narrated by Prachi and marveling at her strength of will and determination, now stepped forward, shielding Prachi from any possible harm.

Prachi smiled lovingly as she admired his protectiveness for her. She tapped his forearm lightly and when he turned, she smiled in reassurance.

"Don't worry, Ranbir. They won't be able to do anything." Prachi assured Ranbir.

Then Prachi stepped around Ranbir and stood beside him, facing the Choubeys yet again.

"You may call as much as you want, Mr. Choubey. However, no guard is going to come to your aid. At the moment they are in deep slumber after having the sweets given to them by your catering manager and our beloved Saritaji." Prachi smirked.

Dushyant Choubey turned to look at Saritaji, whom they had to give the contract for catering as their caterer had backed out at the eleventh hour. Saritaji nodded, smiling. Both the brothers, Dushyant and Dashrath Choubey looked at each other and then fished out their guns and pointed it towards Prachi. However, yet again, Ranbir stepped in front of her, shielding her while the Mehras and the Kohlis stiffened as fear and tension tautened their grip over them yet again. Prachi, however, was as unruffled as before. She turned to look at Aryan who nodded once. She turned towards the audience, especially the Choubeys, again.

"Tch! Tch! Tch! Even after all these you are underestimating me, Mr.Choubey. When I plan something, I plan it meticulously. Why do you think Aryan had been around both you and your brother all this time? He has successfully snitched your guns, took out the bullets and replaced them in your pockets. So, the guns you are dangling at us now are empty of bullets. So, you are free to try them. Go ahead." Prachi challenged confidently.

Grunting in frustration, both the Choubey brothers hurled their guns away and the guns skidded to a halt in front of Aryan's feet.

"Aryan! Get the guns. Fast." Prachi instructed.

Aryan swiftly stooped down and picked up the guns. Prachi laughed softly, shaking her head.

"It's so easy to dupe you. Just be confident while lying. You didn't even stop to think that it was almost impossible for Aryan to take out your guns amidst all these people without anyone noticing, especially when they were kept in the front lowers pockets of your kurta." Prachi smirked.

"You..." Dashrath Choubey began.

"Now, if you are done with your drama, let me tell you what Maya was talking about and how she did what she did. Aryan, have they come?" Prachi turned towards Aryan.

"Yes, Prachi. Come inside, Rahul and Saloni." Aryan called out.

As soon as they heard the names, blood drained off the faces of Rhea, Aaliya and Maya. They turned towards the entrance with frightened eyes and there they were, Rahul and Saloni, sauntering into the hall.

"Buji, we are not going to escape this." Rhea predicted.

"Rhea, let me think something to get out of this mess." Aaliya regarded the new entrants tensely.

"Then do it fast, Buji. But something is telling me we won't be able to get away this time." A strange sense of doom was descending over Rhea.

"So, Saloni, have you brought the thing I asked you to?" Prachi looked straight into Saloni's eyes.

"Yes, Prachi. Here it is." Saloni handed a mobile to Aryan.

"What is it, Prachi?" Abhishek broke his silence after a long time.

"The evidence which will ultimately prove Ranbir's innocence and reveal to everyone the culpability of the actual offender. Rahul, have you brought your laptop?" Prachi turned to Rahul after replying to Abhishek.

When Rahul nodded, Aryan took the laptop from him and after switching it on, attached the mobile to it via USB cable. Soon, the laptop began to play a recorded video.

Let's end it here today. LOL

Hmm...so what did they see in the video? How did the video prove Ranbir's innocence? Want to know? Then keep reading. ;)

Hope you all like this part buddies.
